I Know Shared Disks Are Slow, But...
I just connected an AEBS to my network and connected 3 hard drives using a multi-bay enclosure (Venus T4U). I've been backing up to the drives from two computers, a G4 and a G5, and the speed has been terrible. According to Activity Monitor, the send rate is typically around 30-60 KB/sec. That's not a typo -- I mean KB. That seems a bit ridiculous to me. It's taking all day to copy a 10 GB folder while doing nothing else on the computer. I can't even schedule overnight backups since they won't finish by morning.
I've read here that formatting the drives to non-journalled will speed things up. But I thought journalling was a good thing. I recently had a hard drive failed that was journalled and I recovered virtually everything from it.
Will reformatting without journalling be dangerous in any way? Will it really help the speed? Is there anything else that I can do?

What kind of speed do you get with the T4U connected directly to 1 Mac?
Find the answer to this question and from there work backwards. If you get the same speed with the unit connected directly to the computer then that narrows it down quite a bit.
You will likely experience a huge difference in file transfer speeds when this unit is connected to any wireless network. You have a lot going on when your drives are accessed via a wireless network.
Report back your findings and we can go fro there.

2012 R2 RDS Deployment with RDCB HA and UPDs enabled. Everything was working fine with no issues until users started getting temporary profiles. Around the same time UPDs were being created but at the same time a user profile was created in C:\Users.
I actually rebuilt the entire RDS configuration except the SQL Server. It took about 5 hours and was not that big a deal but.... we still have the same issue!

In most cases, the issue is caused by locked UPD. And the workaround is to log off the user. Please check if it is the case.

Also, please check if you will get the temporary profile when logging on with a local account of the session host server.
If issue persists, please check if there is any related error in Event Viewer and provide us for further research.

Apple TV knows my pictures are there but I can't see them
I have many years worth of pictures on my Windows 7 PC but I only choose to Home Share a couple of year's worth via our Apple TV. Years 2011 and 2012 load up with no problems at all on the Apple TV and we can see all pictures within those folders. But I'm having trouble with my 2013 folder. All of my pictures in that folder from January 1 up through July 3 load just fine on the Apple TV but anything after that point shows up on the screen as a blank box with a "?" in it. And then anything after about July 5 shows up no problem (so basically all of my pictures from July 4 are just boxes with "?"). Apple TV knows all of those in-between pictures are there...but it won't let us "see" them...just dozens of blank boxes between pictures that we can see. Any thoughts?

If you can give more information it would be great.
What kind of camera do you have?
What version of iPhoto are you running?
How much free space is on your HD?
You can try a rebuild to see if that might help. Get back with results.
Try this:
Before doing a rebuild make sure iPhoto's trash bin is emptied. You can do this by control clicking on the trash bin, or from the menu bar under iPhoto.
Close iPhoto
Duplicate the iPhoto Library folder
Drag the duplicate to the desktop (hopefully you have enough room on your hard drive for the duplicate.)
Launch iPhoto holding down the Command and Option keys until you see the rebuild options screen.
Choose the first three options. If you were missing photos in your library, also choose the last option. Be advised that you will get a roll of orphaned photos and it might be quite huge. Most of them will already be in your iPhoto library, but use caution when deleting anything from this roll until you are sure the photos are still in your library in another place. It might be a good idea to share/export this roll of photos just in case you need to import them again.
Back to the rebuild, depending on the size of your library it might take some time. When it is done, hopefully your photos will be there.
You might see some unexpected results as I did when I did a rebuild. Photos had been moved to wrong dates, video clips had lost their duration info and some were even orphaned from the jpg pointer file. It took me some time to straighten it out again.
This is the reason to make a duplicate before you rebuild, in case you do not like the result. If you don't like the result, close iPhoto, then delete the rebuilt library and drag the duplicate back into the Pictures folder making sure the name is iPhoto Library. Launch iPhoto and it should open the library in the Pictures folder.

EP and KM are slow but servers are idle...

We are running EP7 SP10 on HPUX with oracle.
2 physical server, 2 cpu and 12 GB mem each.
In general portal is slow 4-8 sec from key in to screen updates back. KM is even slower....
it makes no different if one user is working or 300. servers cpu less then 20% , IO is low, memory is OK , no paging...
Java heap set to 3.2 GB using 2.3 - 2.8 with GC from time to time..
I'm using CA-interscope, but could not found any thing that jump to eye.
It looks like system setting that will not let the NW to run freely on the available HW.

Without more details of your environment it will be impossible to answer this.
Potential bottlenecks could be the connections to an LDAP or a backend system. Depending on the kind of navigation you use it may be that every time you strike a key/do a click a query is sent out to LDAP/backend.
Please check the tracefiles of your servernodes for any kind of timeouts or other unusual messages. Firewalls in between or slow client connections could cause this kind of behavior as well.

My boss started having this problem this morning. It may possibly be due to an update. The calendars appear to still be working fine (not 100% sure they're
getting new updates) and I've tried deleting them and re-adding them and the problem persists. Outlook will pop up the Security prompt asking for login credentials, with the username of the person whose calendar is shared pre-filled in the user name section.
If you click cancel everything continues to work but it prompts you again in a few minutes.

Since the issue occurs after the update in your Boss's computer, please reboot the local machine. And recreate the Outlook profile to have a try. About opening shared calendar in new profile, please open the shared calendar by the following steps:
1. Switch to Calendar pane.
2. Click Open Calendar > Open Shared Calendar.
3. Click Name to select the user who shared the calendar to this user.
4. Then click OK to open the Calendar.
Check whether there is any error when open it. If there is any permission error, please check the folder permission in shared user side.

Solaris 10 wont install - One or more disks are found

Hi I am new to installing Solaris on a E450 server.
I place the cdrom and type boot cdrom
Answering questions about network region etc.
The installer starts the installation and comes with an error:
One or more disks are found, but one of the
following problems exists:
> Hardware failure
> Unformatted disk.
So no installation.
How do I solve this?
I have tried different disks and even to format the disks.

If you���re trying to install Solaris (SPARC) on a disc which previously had another O/S (*BSD) on it, you will more then likely come across the following error after the system identification stage is complete:
One or more disks are found, but one of the following problems exists:
> Hardware failure
> Unformatted disk.
The problem is to do with the disc label, at the shell fireup format with the e switch
format -e
select the disc which you are trying to install onto, if you are told that the disc doesnt not contain a disk label, would you like to write a lablel, say yes & specify the type as SMI Label, If youre not asked about the label & presented with a menu, goto the partition section, choose label, specify the type as SMI.

how do I share movies/music between my computers. I have opened shared on both computers and both are on, but i am not able to drag anything from one to the other. Does anyone know where the settings button is on the bottom of the itunes screen?
Oops, I forgot a step between 7 and 8 ... before syncing the iPhone I need to explicitly send the document back to iTunes on the iPhone, or the changes won't come over at all ...
and then one more thing ... Numbers on iOS does NOT recognize a number of key features of the OSX app, such as conditional formatting ... so after editing my document on iOS and syncing it back to OSX on my Mac, all of those settings are lost (no more conditional formatting, have to do it all over again)

Suddenly, time machine is very slow. Used to take up a minute and now more than half an hour. Does anybody know how this can happen? Indexing the back-up disk is off, but Timde Machine keeps on indexing!

Hi. This is my first time posting. My Macbook Pro with Os X Mavericks has been running super slow since before I installed Mavericks so I'm pretty sure it's not the OS that has the problem. It runs slow even if only one app is open, especially if it's a browser, particulary google chrome. If mail is open...forget about it, down to a crawl. I don't know how to read Etrecheck, but was hoping someone who does can help me out. Would be super grateful. :-)
P.S. - Also, it sounds like something is loose inside my mac. How should I proceed?

Image browsing very slow - iPhoto library on a shared disk image
Hello,
I'm experiencing serious slowness when browsing images with iPhoto. I get the spinning beach ball for several seconds every time go to next image. According to the activity monitor my CPU load is close to 100% when this happens. The problems started when I got a new camera and had to update to Photo 11 to get the RAW support. Also, I had to update to Mountain Lion to get iPhoto 11 running.
My library is on a shared disk image, and my wife and I are sharing the same library. I have increased the size of the image a couple of times as my library has grown. We have 17680 pictures in the library. Mostly RAW format.
I have tried flushing the iphoto cache and rebuilding the library. No effect. Then I created a new library (non-shared) and that seemed to work fine. The problem seems to be related to the disk image. I don't know what to do? Is there something I could try?
I'm running OS X 10.8.4 and iPhoto 9.4.3. There is about 100 GB free space on my boot drive. Here is my hardware Overview:

LasseUsing a disk image in the Shared folder has worked for few that it's not a method I would advise using in any situation. Get an external HD as TD has suggested. You'll be a lot more satisfied with the results if you do.

I try to buy songs itunes but there is a message stating that my disk is full and to empty out the trash can. But i don't know what disk it speaks of?
The "disk" is your startup volume, which is usually called "Macintosh HD" (unless you changed it). Your iTunes media files (such as song files), and basically everything else, are stored on that volume (unless you changed it).
You should create some free space as soon as possible, because the system (OS) and applications use free space to write temporary files as part of normal operations. If there is very little free space available, your system may start to bog down and feel slow because it's not running efficiently.
You can empty whatever is currently in the Trash by doing a click-hold (or right-click) on the "waste basket" icon in the Dock, and selecting Empty Trash. A good place to look for files you may no longer need is your Downloads folder. There is usually a link to your Downloads folder in the sidebar of a Finder window. (The folder itself is located in your user home folder.)
You can see how much free space you currently have by selecting Macintosh HD on your Desktop (or in the sidebar of a Finder window), and selecting Get Info from the File menu. You can also right-click on it and select Get Info from the menu that comes up (or hit Cmd-I on keyboard). The Info window shows Capacity and Available for the volume. Available is the free space. It would be best to keep Available at least 10% of Capacity; getting it to 20% or more would be better.
If you can't free up enough free space by deleting things you do not need anymore, you should get an external hard drive and save some your files there. That's actually how I run my iMac; most of my user files are stored on external USB and FireWire drives. -
my 2009 macbookpro has begun running very slowly, apps freeze and pages hang ... i've run EtreCheck and there are problems but don't know how to sort ... ran CleanMyMac and freed up about 30GB of space but didn't help ... ran AdwareMedic so that's been sorted but the other issues that came up on the EtreCheck I need help with however i can't figure out how to paste the results on this page

my usb that i have been using on my computer for a while suddenly stopped working, but is still glowing and letting me know that it is connected, but not showing up in disk utility
Either the physical drive or the enclosure electronics has failed. The light you are seeing is powered by the USB connection, the power, electricity, all USB ports put out. That doesn't mean the actual physical hard drive or the USB to SATA bus electronics are working properly. If it doesn't show in Disk Utility then it is DEAD.
Most of the time it is the enclosures electronics that fail. Removing the physical drive from the enclosure and put it in another enclosure or using a SATA to USB adapter, one that has it's own AC power supply, might allow you to get the files off the drive. -
I know many have this issue but i can't find a solution to the problem. i get message saying insuffisiant disk space in the volume iPhoto library and i have plenty of space available. i have the new macbook pro with retina display. i have never seen this message before and i have 2 other macbooks and have had many other also. i am assuming this is a problem with the new macbook retina. does anyone know the exact fix to this issue? i have seen many sugestions to try to fix this issue but none have solved the issue for anyone that i can find in the Apple Support Community. thank for looking into this in advance.
******A true apple fan********Actually your suggestions are the ones that i have tried. i have seen that you have tried to help others with this issue and the only one that i could find that said they found the problem said that it was an ilife update issue and it fixed it and i have no available updates. i know it has to do with something in photo stream because it happens when i create a new library and it is loading the photos but i get the message before i reach the maximum 1000 photos. so i've tried updating, new library(first backing up photos and then deleting them from iPhoto), reinstalling OSX many times, running disc utilities. I called Apple the first day i had this issue and i was the first person to call them for support with the retina display and i actually had it escalated to a senior advisor and we thought we fixed the problem but we did not. i am pretty fluent in dealing with troubleshooting these type of issues and this is the first time i'm reaching out to the community. i figured now that the retina has been out some time now that there would be an obvious answer to this issue. thanks for the quick reply.
