I`m havin problems with my restoring !

I wanted to update my ipod photo , and the process didn`t finish . Then my ipod didn`t work corectly ! So I wanted to restore him . I restoreded with the last updater, but it dosn`t work , when I click restore it says : Formatting failure. Disk write error ! Please help me ! My e-mail is : [email protected] ! I NEED HELP PLEASE ! ! !

The disk write error article left by the previous person is a good idea, but if basically just says keep restoring the iPod. If the article didn't work, do this (it does the same thing)
1. connect iPod
2. open My Computer
3. find the iPod (may be called iPod or Removable Disk) under devices with removable storage
4. right click on the iPod
5. click format
6. click quickformat
7. click start
8. wait for it to finish
When the process is complete, iTunes should open up with the iPod setup assistant. It might feel like it's taking forever to get started, and it might feel as though you're computer is freezing on every step, but if you're patient and go through the process described above, your issue should be resolved.

  • Problems with a Restore after trying to resolve problems with Yosemite

    Hi there,
I stupidly upgraded my OS to Yosemite without waiting a month or so for any problems to be fixed.
After the upgrade which went really well, or so I thought, all my apps worked, and I was very happy with it until I switched to Bootcamp to to find that I didn't have the option to select Bootcamp as startup. Although I had the BC icon on my Mac desktop, and I could access it from my Mac, I couldn't switch over.
    So I did a restore to a timestamp just before my Yosemite upgrade - and this went... sort of well... I panicked when I thought I'd lost all my 10's of thousands of emails but the rebuild went well. The problems I have with my restore are that some of my applications are missing - I just get a '?' in the dock and it tells me what the apps are when I hover my pointer on them. The apps are;
    System Preferences
    Safari
    Preview
    Skype
    Vox
    VLC
    uTorrent
    Tunnelblick
    Quicktime Player
My Pages documents no longer open - it says The required index.xml file is missing but it does manage to show me a quick view in spotlight
I have seen on this forum that this can be due to having more than one version Pages but I can only find one version in Application/iWork '09
I can't see why Safari wouldn't be present because I thought it was part of the operating system, as in Preview as well. I thought that maybe they are still on my Mac but need some sort of reset or something...
My bootcamp problem has been resolved by the way and I can switch to my Windows apps that I use regularly.
So I would really be grateful for help in restoring the apps above. I was thinking that apps I downloaded like Skype and Vox say, I can download again, but maybe I need to delete files etc. before reinstalling these missing ones.
    Many thanks, Maz

Hmmm, problem resolved by restoring forward to my Yosemite backup.
It's the lesser of two evils and I have my Windows apps on my old PC...
So come on Apple and get this fixed - it's absolutely disgraceful that this should happen... absolutely disgraceful!

  • Content missing and problems with resync / restore functions

Since this morning (it's early evening now), my iPod touch (3G, 64 GB, updated to iOS4 as soon as it was possible from Spain) is not working properly. It started while playing some music. It suddenly stopped without having to. I checked that the ipod was ignoring some songs, whose artwork appeared on screen, as if it couldn't find them. It jumped from one song to the next, and if it couldn't play it either, it stopped.
After a little investigation, I reached the "Settings -> Information" section, where I saw that, although the ipod said it had 4000+ songs loaded, it had more than 50 Gigabytes free, which was impossible, since it was slightly more than 32 GBs free the last time I sync'ed it, and the songs in my library weight about 25 GBs.
Once I arrived home, I tried to resync it, and then iTunes showed that most of the pod was empty and tried to reload all music, but it stopped due to an error after some 200 songs.
Then I tried to restore the ipod, but after a few minutes iTunes displayed an error again.
I'm trying now to resync it again. The process of reloading the songs is being painfully slow. It takes more or less 10 seconds for each song.
Can anyone wonder what migt be happening?
I bouht the ipod in March so it is under guarantee, but I'm going to start my summer holidays this week and I would hate to spend them without the ipod until Apple Services repairs/replaces my iPod.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • I was resetting my macbook pro 17 (early 2009) to factory settings but does not restore due to a problem with the restore disk. Please advice me on what to do next.

I was resetting my macbookpro 17 (early 2009) to factory settings but was indicating problems on the restore disk.  I erased my macintosh hd drive so the hd is empty.  What do I do next?

Get an external drive and make a clone of your internal, erase the internal, set it for 1 partition (OSX Journaled) and restore the clone.

  • Problems with system restore points in Win 8.1 (keep increasing in size)

    Hi,
I was sent here by Microsoft Support who seem to have no idea of the mechanics of System Restore and what could interfere with it. I've no idea where to post this, so I hope you can help in that.
I have the problem that my System Restore point (only a single point) keeps increasing rapidly in size from a few Mb to many Gb and even fills the C drive if I don't stop it. Setting a limit to the size doesn't help (in System Restore or VSS), as it ignores
it and increases the limit. I have tried all the usual (sfc, DISM, chkdsk, several antivirus and malware programs) with no success.
Obviously, I can turn off System Restore, but that isn't really something I want to do.

When you say "system backup", do you mean generation of system restore points or an actual backup? i don't use MSBackup.
    Hi,
What I meant system backup is system backup feature that it would create restore point when you enable system backup automatically.
I made a test in our testing enviroment. limit restore point disk space usage to minize, create some restore point. When I create a seconde restore point, it would replace the former time point. The maxize disk space usage won't more than the limiation.
Therefore, please check the size of Restore Point in C:\System Volume Information if it's larger than system limiation.

  • Problems with Full restore using Time Capsule backup???

For some reason my MacBook Pro recently crapped out completely, and I am trying to do a complete restore of the OS via a full backup I made with using Time Machine onto my Time Capsule disk, but I am running into some problems doing so and I was hoping someone might have some insight as to how I should deal with things at this point...
    Here's where things get messy...
    - I insert my Mac OS X 10.5 Installation DVD into my Macbook and boot from the drive, and I immediately choose the menu option to 'Restore from Time Capsule Backup'...
    - After logging into my Time Capsule and then choosing the proper .sparseimage file to restore from, I click 'continue' and it brings me to the screen where I choose where I want to restore to (which in my case, is the one and only internal HD inside my Macbook Pro)
    - The bottom of this window tells me that it's "Calculating space required to restore data..." but it simply hangs at the point with a spinning wheel indicating its still doing the calculating, but never actually presents me with the space required, not does it allow me to click continue to perform the restore?? I've allowed it over an hour to calculate the space required and it still just spins its status wheel...
This is where I am stuck at this point, and I have no idea how to get it to proceed to the next step to allow me to perform the restore??
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I will have no choice but to do a complete reinstall (including all apps and data) if I can't get the backup restored... Thanks!

I had the same problem when installing a new HDD in my Macbook. The solution I found was to reinstall Leopard onto the new HDD from the install CD, then reboot off the install CD once I had done this. I was then able to choose the 'Restore from Time Capsule' option and get my HDD to show up in the window.
A word of warning, once you have reinstalled Leopard and it starts asking you for all you info, as if for the first time to set up your computer, there is an option at the end of that process to restore your data from a Time Capsule backup. While this did restore all my files and so forth, it did not update any of the 'Apple' apps, i.e. iTunes, iPhoto, Quicktime, or the operating system itself, suggesting a 500Mb download via 'Software Update' to update the system. It was faster for me to reboot of the install CD and restore via the process outlines above. That way you get all your system updates included.
Not sure if this is the 'approved' method but it worked for me! The restore process took about 75 minutes for about 100Gb of data from my external backup drive connected to my Macbook via a Firewire cable.
    Hope this helps!

  • Problems with Backup restore after HD replacement

    Hi All,
I recently had my HD replaced on my Powerbook through Apple and I am having some significant problems trying to get everything running properly again. Prior to sending my computer out, I did have everything backed up on an external HD using Backup.
When I received my laptop back, I ran the "Restore" function in Backup but things didn't seem to restore properly.
For example, when I open up a Finder window and click on "Documents", I get the following error message: The Volume Documents can not be found". I get the same message when I click on "Movies".
When I open iTunes and iPhoto, none of my music or photos show up.
It appears that the data is on the HD though. From the Finder window, I click on the HD and then on the Users folder and I can see the data in a folder with my old User Name. I just can't seem to associate the data with my current account user name.
I am wondering if this has to do with the fact that they didn't rebuild my accounts that I had set up.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Welcome to Apple Discussions, Rick.I did have everything backed up on an external HD using Backup.
That is fortunate, you can manually move those folders over to your new user. Do not move Desktop. Documents, Library. Movies, etc but rather copy and replace with the folders from your backup.
Here is a list of where your important data is stored ("~" stands for "home"):
    Your data in ~/documents
~/library/application support/addressbook (copy the whole folder)
    ~/library/application support/iCal(copy the whole folder)
Also in ~/library/application support (copy whatever else you need)
~ /library/keychains (copy the whole folder)
    ~/library/mail (copy the whole folder)
~/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist *This is a very important file which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences.
~ /library/itunes (copy the whole folder)
~ /library/safari (copy the whole folder)
~ /library/imovie (copy the whole folder)
    ~/pictures/iphoto library
    ~/music/itunes
    ~/movies/imovie
    If you want cookies:
    ~/library/cookies/cookies.plist
    ~/library/application support/webfoundation/HTTPcookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in documents/microsoft user data
    Also in ~ /library/preferences/microsoft
internet explorer favorites are in ~/library/preferences/explorer/favorites.html
EDIT: I am wondering if this has to do with the fact that they didn't rebuild my accounts that I had set up.Yes.

  • Problem with DNA restore

We are moving from Windows 2000 to XP SP2.
We don't have any issues with creating the system's DNA, but when it's
time for a restore the screen blanks out and never returns to the
desktop... I have stripped the template down to only grab Internet
    Favorites, printers, and c:\my documents.
Does anyone have ANY ideas or areas that I could look into to help
    resolve this issue?
    Currnetly using ZEN 6.5 SP1a.
    Thanks.

:( We are using a NAL to kick it off. We found out what the problem
was. Someone had toggled it to run as a Secured User, rather than a
    Normal user.
Does anyone know why it doesn't work as a Secured App?

  • Problem with firmware restoration CD

I have a dead MacBook Pro (mid-2010 15" i5) that went through a failed firmware update. I found and burned the Firmware Restoration CD 1.7 that is needed to reset the firmware.
The problem I have is with the procedure itself as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL77
    7. Turn on the computer and continue holding the Power button. The sleep LED will blink rapidly, then slowly, then rapidly (3 quick blinks, 3 slow blinks, 3 quick blinks). On Macs that don't have a sleep LED, tones are used instead. Hold down the power button until you hear 3 long tones, then 3 short tones, then 3 long tones.
    8. Insert the Firmware Restoration CD while the lights are blinking or tones sounding, then release the Power button. A long tone is played once the recovery process has started.
The MBP does not have this behaviour with the sleep LED. I hold down the power button, the sleep LED flashes rapidly for about 1-2 seconds and the I hear the boot chime and the MBP tries to boot normally from the HD. If I try to insert the CD while the light is flashing, the MBP just spits it out.
What is the right procedure to restore the firmware with this particular MBP model? Thank you!

The MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2010 has a model identifier "MacBookPro 6,2" and isn't listed at the link you provided, it's the wrong firmware your using.
    Here's the correct version

  • I have another problem with my restored sent e-mail messages

I like to back up my mail on my MacBook Pro. Ever since I restored my sent e-mail messages on my iMac using its TM, I copy my mail folder on my MacBook Pro but the sent messages doesn't work on my MBP.
I think that I know the cause is, on my external drive it says: Backup for Steve's iMac. I think that means the backups will only work for my iMac.
So here's my question, is there anyway to change my sent e-mail messages to universal so they will work both in my iMac and my MBP again?
BTW, although I have time capsule for my MBP but I use mail exclusively on my iMac. So at the end of the day I just copy my iMac's mail folder into my MBP and only I start my mail application in my MBP is to make sure that all of the changes are there. I do this day after day.
So the changes come from my iMac, do you know what I mean?

Sounds like a permission problem, but I can't be sure.
You may benefit from MobileMe to sync your email instead of copying and pasting.
    Just a thought.

  • Problems with Catalog Restore

    Using Photoshop Elements 6
Am trying to restore on a new computer from a computer that died.
I had a backup.  The files were originally on a drive H: on the old computer.
When the old drive was placed in the new computer, it was recognized as E:
Did the restore to a new directory on C:, keeping the original folder structure.
Everything looks fine.  There are now files on the C: drive in the directory I specified.
Except Organizer shows E: as the drive in the file properties.
If you disconnect the E: drive, Organizer thinks the files are detacted and only has the thumbnails
At that point Organizer shows the "H:" drive in the file properties.
I'm not understanding why the restore would put the files on C: but still use E: as the source.
I tried the reconnect, but Organizer says that there are no files to reconnect.
All this is making me totally rethink if I want to trust a catalog system to manage files.
This is fine if it works, and up to now it's worked really well.
I'm hoping this is something simple I'm overlooking or that there is a simple fix.
Thanks in advance for you help.
    - Craig

    The output is below.
I did the reconnect all, and apparently it did reconnect some of the files this time when the E: drive was disconnected, but many are not.  There was a dialog box that listed them, and some show the question mark in the organizer.  Is there any way to reconnect these hundreds (or thousands) of files that aren't connected.  I don't understand why it would find some but not the others.
    I appreciate the help.

Firefox-Attempting to start seems to do nothing.
    Word/Excel-Microsoft User Database Corrupt.
Any thoughts on what the problems might be? Other programs such as Safari seem to be fine.

The most likely solution is to reinstall that software. You can repair the MS User Database. If I remember correctly you hold down the OPTION key when launching one of the Office applications which should open the repair dialog.
