I movie HD and Sony HD camcorder

Please help. Have just upgraded to High def video camera Sony AVC HDR SR1E. My G5 Is at 10.3.9 with I life 06 installed. I cannot download the footage from the camera. what can I do?
Thankyou Angela.

This hard drive camera records using MPEG-2. That is the same as most all of the new DVD cameras.
This format is for playback and is not intended to be used as an editing format.
You will need to convert that format into a DV format that imovie can use.
MPEG Streamclip http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/mpegstreamclip.html is free and Apple's QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
is about $20.00. They are the tools that you need to download to convert these files.
Once you have done that, export to DV Stream (.dv) and import it into iMovie.

  • AP3 does not recognise movie files from Sony HD camcorder

I tried to import footage from a new Sony HDD camcorder, Aperture uploaded the stills ok but couldn't upload the movies with an error message saying 'Unknow File Format'.
However iPhoto uploaded the movies no problem. The file format is .MPG
If anyone can offer any advice on what I need to change to upload MPG format that would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Are you sure the format is .MPG -- Sony HD camcorders are typically outputting AVCHD files, which Aperture does not read? Nevertheless, not sure if .MPG is supported either.
f you open Aperture Help and search on Video, you find the following:
File Formats You Can Import into the Library
Aperture supports most image, audio, and video file formats captured by digital cameras. An example of the file types and formats that can be imported into your Aperture library are:
    • GIF
    • JPEG
    • JPEG2000
    • PNG
    • PSD (8- and 16-bit)
    • TIFF (8- and 16-bit)
    • BMP
    • DNG
    • RAW files from a variety of supported digital cameras
    • AIF
    • WAV
    • MOV

  • Imac and Sony HD Camcorder

Looking for feedback from Intel Imac owners that work with Full HD video (1920x1080i).
I am considering purchasing a new 2.4ghz Imac. It appears I will need to use an external firewire drive to store the video.
Does anyone else use an imac for editing and managing the video? It is able to manage the video in a reasonable amount of time, and with ease?
    Any tips greatly appreciated.

You may need to connect via Firewire if it's a tape based camera to transfer video to the iMac but you can keep footage on USB or Firewire drives quite easily.
Firewire used to be preferred for storage but frankly there's not that much in it these days.
You need to decide if you're going to get a DV HD camcorder (firewire transfer) or a disc/hard drive based one (disc itself or USB).
There were issues importing from hard drive cameras this time last year as the AVCHD format wasn't supported by iMovie HD 6, but that's changes to some extent.
If i were you I'd draw up a camera shortlist and software shortlist (iMovie 08, Final Cut Express etc or other), and then check the software compatibility pages and check on teh discussion fora for imovie and Final Cut to see if anyone else uses your camera.
I have an older Sony HC3 HD camera which uses tape. Tapes are cheap, but it's a bit of a chore these days waiting an hour to upload an hour's footage. I dare say things will have changed completely in 5 years time.

  • Canon and Sony AVCHD camcorder compatibility

    Hi everyone.
I am looking to purchase either a Canon Vixia M31 or Sony HDR CX350V. I was wondering whether these two camcorders are compatible with Final Cut Express. Also, what settings should I record in so that the video can be imported and edited? Thanks!

No. Not all AVCHD camcorders are compatible. Every manufacturer comes up with his own version of AVCHD and his own proprietary variation of the format. Some will work, some will not. Most AVCHD camcorders shoot multiple formats, a broad spectrum of specifications, some will work, some will not. There are currently in access of 100 consumer HD formats, many of which don't work in anything except the cameras that shoot them.

Chances are the pinnacle is producing .avi files or MPEFG1/2 streams - iTunes may know how to decode the audio but not the video. Download Handbrake and try running the Pinnacle files through it and adding to iTunes - use Universal format unless you have a specific device in mind.
    Keep copies of the originals.
Another option might be to try to install Perian.  Can't remember if the Apple MPEG2 plugin allows MPEG2 to be played in iTunes.

  • I just purchased a Sony HD Camcorder need to down load the movie, How do i do this?

I just purchased a Sony HD Camcorder and can not find how to import the movies. Does any one know how to do this?

You will not be able to download the video directly to your iphone or iPad.
I suggest you download to your computer to edit.
If you meant to put this on the iMovie Mac forum, then you should re-post there.
I suggest you also state your camera model, computer model, and version of iMovie.

How can I upload movies from Sony pj580v camcorder to use with imovie 11?

Transfer it to your computer and import into iTunes, make sure it's in a compatible format. Then simply sync with the iPad. If you have a camera connection kit and you know the footage is compatible you can connect it directly.

  • How can I do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder which does not have firewire out/input? it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite RCA output?

I need to do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder (http://store.sony.co...ber=HDRAX2000/H) ..this camcorder model does not have firewire out/input ..it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite A/V video output..
I wonder how can I plug this camcorder to the firewire port of my laptop? Browsing on internet I found that Grass Valley Company produces this converter http://www.amazon.co...=A17MC6HOH9AVE6 ..but I am not sure -not even after checking the amazon reviews- if this device will send the video signal through firewire to my laptop, in order to live streaming properly? ..anyone in this forum could help me please?
    Thanx

I can't broadcast with the built in iSight webcam... how would I zoom in or zoom out? or how would I pan? I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera...  is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...
    thanx

    Thanks.

There may be a better forum to ask this question in -- not all Keynote users have Sony HD camcorders.

Connect the camera to the computer with a USB cable and use the camera as the card reader. Make sure the camera is in playback mode.

There are a lot of channels that are on Sky TV but that are not available on Sky go. I can only assume that it is because there is no agreement in place between Sky and the channel to include them on Sky Go.

  • Sony HD Camcorde

Is the new Sony HD camcorder (HDR-SR5) compatible with Imovie? Instructions are unclear. Do I need to download something to make this work??

I too have the Sony HDR-S7 and love the camera. To you point here are a couple of ways to get your HD content to your TV.
    1. If you media device will play quicktime this is pretty simple - You can edit your movie in iMovie then under the Share Menu, select the entry for Export Using Quicktime function - then you need to click on the options button in the dialog box and make sure you change the Video size to 1990 x 1080.
    2. If you want your Xbox to do this - then you need to make the file a Windows Media HD File - which can be done with a third party product called Flip4Mac. The pro version will allow you to author in WMV files in HD.
    Hope this helps.

  • Bad quality with Sony HD Camcorder after import

I've posted this in the iMovie section, but did not get any response there. Since I need to decide soon if I should keep the camcorder or send it back, I hope any of you can help me with this problem:
I've just purchased a Sony HDR-CX105 camcorder to be used with iMovie 09. When I import the files from the camcorder, the quality of the clips after the import is just terrible (artefacts, lots of noise in plain dark areas). The odd thing is, when I preview the clips in the import window (directly from the cam), there is no noise at all and the quality (at least from what can be seen in the small window) is ok. Also when I connect the cam to my PS3 and Sony-LCD-TV it is ok and close to what I expected from it.
What happens here? It almost looks as if iMovie reduces the size from HD to YouTube quality. It is not even close to the HD clips I'm used to watch on my iMac. I already tried iMovie 06, but it can't detect the camera at all. I selected "full quality" at import btw.

It's possible your camera recorded the video at a lower bitrate setting. A lot of HDHDD camcorders encounter this issue these days. LCD TVs are designed to make your video look good, so it will probably look better on a TV than in your computer. Furthermore, you should check the original Quicktime movie capture in your iMovie file to see if there is any compression.

  • Problem with importing movies from my Sony HDR-SR5

Having trouble importing movies from my Sony HDR-SR5. The computer is reading HD camcorder but Iphoto is coming up and not Imovie. I don't have any still pics and SD movies. When I go into imovie camcorder does not show up. Any suggestions?

Did your "Camcorder" ever worked with iMovie? If so, what version were your running?
What version of iMovie are you currently running: iMovie 8.0.5 or iMovie 8.0.6?
What version of the OS are you currently running: 10.6.2 or 10.6.3?
