I need to reduce the size of several pdf files before transferring them onto a research database. Each file is made up of 100 images (pages of diaries)

I need to reduce the size of several pdf files before transferring them onto a research database. Each file is made up of 100 images (pages of diaries) & is up to 1.36 GB in size. I have tried reducing file size in preview but the images are unreadable. Any ideas?

WHen I want to reduce the file size, I either use "Optimize Scanned PDF", or more often use "Reduce File Size". Both are on the Document menu. The Reduce File Size selection has some limited customization that is used, when selected.

  • I need to reduce the size of a 150 page report

I need to reduce the size of my 150 page report.
Presently I have opened and copied about 25 MS Outlook 2007 personal e-mail messages into the Word document. Please advise if one of your programs would solve my problem. If so please recommend the correct program. This is a one shot report of this size.
I am using MS 2007 Word, Outlook, Excel and Google Chrome.
    Thank you for your support.

    Hi Earle Rheaume ,
Using Adobe Acrobat you can directly convert the emails to PDF which would be less in size as compared to a DOC or Excel.
Also, you can convert the existing word or excel file to PDF.

How to reduce the size of a pdf?

Not do-able with Reader. Acrobat Pro can reduce PDF file size, but... if it's text only (no media or images) it won't reduce any more than it already is.

Do you have to use Preview or would a third party utility like PDFShrink be acceptable?

  • How can I reduce the size of a pdf file for emailing?

I want to send a pdf file which is 8 mb, it has bounced in an email because it is too big, how can I reduce the size of the pdf file for emailing?

Sometimes a simple "Save As" will reduce the file size slightly, but probably not enough to pass the <8 mb threshold of your recipient, as you need.
You've probably seen it, try the next option in the Save As menu, "Reduced Size PDF," and make it compatible with the latest version possible, again considering the recipient. This suggestion assumes Acrobat X. You don't say which version you're using, but this tool was available at least going back to Version 8, but in a different place, you'll have to hunt.
If all that doesn't work, you could remove some images from the source document, which also will reduce the overall size.
    Best luck.

  • How to reduce the size of a PDF file from a 10.26 MB to a 2.0 MB?

I have save my file using Adobe and converted it to a PDF file size 10.26MB but the file is too large....how do I reduce the size of the file to upload to a website?.  It needs to be PDF size 2.0 MB

The free Reader can do nothing to shrink the files. Acrobat can reduce them somewhat but I think that not to the extent that you want, although it can also separate them in smaller files. Depending on the specific files, it may be better to reduce them in the originals from which the PDFs were made; for example, by lowering the resolution of images.

  • Is there a way to reduce the size of my PDF file, created (or I should say, Exported) in InDesign.

I created a 10-page sale flyer in InDesign CS5 which will be viewed on our website. When I export it as a PDF file, even with the compression at "minimum", the size is still 3.8 MB.
Is there a way to reduce the size of the PDF file? with InDesign or another tool out there?
    Thanks for your help!

To expand a little on what Jongware said, normally choosing vector over bitmap will decrease the filesize. If the vector art is very complex though, this will not be true.
Yup, a logo as bitmap takes up more space than the same as a vector -- unless the vector image is bitmap heavy (think Drop Shadow, Outline Glow; these are actually bitmap effects).
Also, check your PDF version. "Older" versions do not support live transparency, the latest do. Then again, you cannot use live transparency if you suspect your viewers may be using Mac OS X, because Apple's own PDF viewer sucks big time.

  • How do I reduce the size of a PDF file for emailing?

I have scanned a document on my Canon Printer.  The size is very large about 14 Megabytes.  I do not know how to reduce the size so that I can send it via Mail.  I have searched HELP but have not as yet found an answer.  One suggestion was that in my Mail window there is an option to reduce the size of the attachment but I see no such option in my email.

Another option for sending large files is to use :
    http://www.filedropper.com/
You upload the files to the website and it creates
a URL that you can copy and paste into an email
which you send to the recipient and they use the
generated link to get the file.

  • How can reduce the size of my pdf file?

    Hi There,
I need to reduced a scanned pdf document which is 23MB in to a smaller size so it's acceptable for email.

Acrobat can reduce PDF file sizes.  However, by how much depends largely on its content.
On the other hand, sending e-documents as email attachments is never a good idea - they can get damaged, misdirected, lost, and there is always the file size limit.
Much better is to use a file sharing service (Acrobat.com, Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, ...) - upload and share the document, then send the download link by email.

  • How to reduce the size of my pdf X3:2002 for online printing

    Hello Adobe,
I have been creating a photobook (33 x 28 cm) with my photo editing software.
The problem is, that I've got a PDF X3 2002 with around 7 GB and the online printing office accepts only 2 GB.
What can I do, how can I reduce this large pdf in 2 GB?  I'm working with Acrobat X Pro.
    Thanks for your help,
    Best,
    Andrea

You are sending public messages, don't worry about that. It's working fine. Now, rather than trying to share screen shots and send PDFs, please focus on answering ALL of my questions. Thanks. I will recap. If any of the questions don't make sense, just say so. We need to stay focussed, not go off on a tangent.
    - the size in pixels and inches (or mm) for your photos.
    - what app you use for layout
    - What is the EFFECTIVE resolution you are using for your images (not the original ppi, but adjusted for layout size)?
    - How are you making up the pages?
    - How do you make the PDF? -
    - What PDF compression settings are you using?

  • Reducing the size of fillable pdf

I’m creating fillable forms in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro. There are about 14 forms and each file is about 300kb, in toal the file size is around 4.10mb. I would like to be able to send the file by email but I’m worried that it would be too big, is there a way to reduce the file size of fillable forms without losing the quality?
    Thank you.

  • I need help reducing the image size...PSE8

I have some photos that I won't be enlarging/editing (just want to keep them in catalog) that are large MB size files. I want to reduce the size of these photos and still see them large on the screen. Can anyone tell me what resolution I should enter to do that?
For example what ratio would I enter for this photo:
I have a photo that is 3.55 MB (JPG), PSE8 says my file is 55.556 inches x 41.667 inches at 72 dpi.
When I open the resize Image option it says my pixel dimensions are 34.3M showing the width at 4000 and the Height at 3000
This photo is one that I don't plan to edit - I just want to keep in my catalog at a smaller size for screen viewing. When I have tried to reduce the size it shows up small on the screen (at 100%).Or chosing smaller inches still keeps the file in large MB size.
Why is it you can send an email in KB sizes that show up full screen but I can't get this reduced and it show up even be that big when it still says MB size?
I hope this makes sense, I am new to PSE8 and not sure if I explained this well enough.
    I appreciate any help!,
    Thank you,
    Angela

At the bottom of the screen, turn on Resample Image. Then enter a size in pixels for the longer of the two sides (figure this based on your monitor's pixel dimensions).
I wouldn't do this to an original unless you have a copy elsewhere.
