I need to start and stop logging based on a digital input event(or analog if necessary), log data for several seconds prior to the event, and have the data file close at the end of event and increment the filename for the next logging event.

I don't know if this can be done with VI Logger or need to use Labview V7.1.

After browsing through the VI Logger User Manual, it looks like the triggering that you are hoping to accomplish is possible. However, incrementing the filename for the next logging event is not going to be possible. VI Logger does exactly what its name tells - logs data. I don't think the automation that you are hoping to accomplish is possible.

Permissions error one second, then none the next doing the same thing.

One of several intermittent troubles I am having on my new 24" iMac with Leopard:
I will quit a program after downloading an update, go to copy the updated app over the old one and I get told I do not have correct permissions to do this. I try again seconds later and it works perfectly. Yes - the app is quit first. I have checked. I have also tried waiting several seconds after the app has finished quitting, to no avail.
I spoke with an Apple tech about this. He got me to run disk utility to repair permissions (my first thought and already done, but ok, I'll do it again...) which found nothing but the usual ACL permission errors every Leopard user is experiencing. He then got me to apply permissions to enclosed items in my App and user folders. This resulted in other strange permissions (and yes - I checked I was applying the correct ones) being applied to every file in these folders, completely borking my system. It was easier to start over again at this point so that resulted in my second clean reinstall of Leopard (see below).
Three wipes of the HD and reinstalls of Leopard have failed to fix this issue. It also happened on my previous iMac which was declared DOA in under eight hours. Sure - it had serious hardware issues, but this has still happened across two new iMacs.

Certainly sounds a bit odd.
Interent speed or lack of it would be the first choice
A reboot of the computer and then iChat should get iChat to re-read the connection speed.
Anything from there is likely to the the Mac Firewall or the routing device.
At this point I would be stuck to an actual cause.
At the end that has the Screen Sharing option greyed out go to the Home Folder/Library/Preferences
Delete the com.apple.ichat.plist itself (None of the others). Just drag it to the Trash
Restart iChat.
You may have to check the Preferences settings (Save transcripts, Alerts etc.) and some menus (Buddy List Sort Order, Show Smileys etc.)
Does this "reset" whether you/they have Allowed Screen Sharing and the Ability to turn it Off or On ?

Duplicating and incrementing a filename, and the same for text within

I've done some work in AppleScript; not much in Automator. Am curious which might be the better hammer for this:
Given an existing text file:
ZAM001_001ref.mov (note: from job to job, only the "ZAM" portion will change).
... with a mime type of "video/quicktime", with the contents of:
rtsptext rtsp://server.blah.woof/ondemand/zamzam/ZAM_001/mov/ZAM_001001.mov
... I want to create x copies (x depends on the job), incrementing the file name to ZAM001_002ref.mov, etc., and likewise increment the text 001.mov to 002.mov in the file itself (shortened here for brevity).
If the program were speaking, it would say:
Give me the location of the first file.
Tell me how many incremented files you want. Pseudo code maybe something like:
Repeat x times
Duplicate a file in the Finder, incrementing a number in a file name by 1.
Increment a number in the rtsp server/path/file name by 1.
Save the file.
End repeat

This would be tricky (or at the least convoluted) to do in Automator, especially if you wanted to keep to the default actions. Leopard's Automator does have variables, but there are no standard function to do something like increment a number. There are actions to make new text files and to get text from files (and a few to work with an open TextEdit document), but again, no standard functions are available to do something like modify an existing text file. A few Run AppleScript actions would be able to do these things, but you might as well do the whole thing in AppleScript - unless you were wanting to use Automator for something you haven't disclosed.

downloaded firefox for mac os x. it asked if i wanted to import from safari during that process; i said yes. when i click on the firefox icon, none of the tags or bookmarks are there. moreover, the first step in the 8 step process (really??), is a article for windows, and i can't move from the page, no continue options or anything. extremely frustrating, and seems unnecessary; why does it give me windows info when i downloaded mac?

I have the same issues. I keep getting a "network error" even though my connections are fine. I have installed Bootcamp fine on another Macbook, but am having major issues with my brand new one. I have read the support forums where they say to keep trying because the servers are notoriously slow, but this seems a little ridiculous. Hope I can get some help as well.

What caused "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or push the restart button."

This was displayed in four lanuages. When I restarted I was asked to submit an error report. The gave programmer details and indicated my OS 10.4 had quit. I was reading a news article on DailyMail.co.uk at the time.
I ran a Sophos antivirus scan on the whole disk and no threats were identified.
This has apparently happened a couple times previously. I thought the computer had not booted up properly since it had a black box where this message appeared and the machine was unresponsive.
Any suggestsions for cause and/or solution.

Apple won't work on it anymore. And, take it from me (hard experience: three boards changed and the G5 finally croaked from the graphics chip problem) you don't want to bring it to an AASP either, because if they are able to get a new logic board from Apple, it will croak in short time also. These were not refurbed properly. And, by now, the caps on a refurbed board will be ancient, anyway. In addition, there is a serious potential issue with the graphics chip. There was a repair extension in effect for both issues, the caps and the chip, but it's long since gone.
There might also be bad caps in the power supply.
Those three bad caps, and possibly others, are enough to bring this machine down.
There are some delicate soldering skills involved in replacing the caps. Most people with experience recommend practising first on a disposable board.

Stacked area chart with start and end dates

Hi,
I'm trying to create a stacked area chart from values that have a start date and an end date. I'd like the area to be drawn as a sum of the values at each x-axis date interval. So if I have data like:
Start
End
Value
2013-01-01      2015-01-01
100
2013-09-01      2014-01-01
200
2013-01-01      2016-01-01
300
What I need is to have the chart show the area y-axis at 400 from the start up to 2013-09-01 where it would rise to 600. At 2014-01-01 it would drop back down to 400 and at 2015-01-01 it would drop to 300 until the end.
Is this possible without calculating the sums for each date beforehand?

According to your description, it seems that you need add Start and End fields with the same level (without group relationship) to the x-axis in stacked area chart. As per my understanding, we couldn’t add multiple fields in one group at the same level.
So in order to work around this issue, we can modify the dataset to combine the Start and End field into one filed, then add the new filed to x-axis. For more details, please refer to the steps below:
Modify the dataset with the following query statement:
select Start as date , Value as value
from table_name
union
select [End] as date, (0-Value) as value
from table_name
Drag a Stacked Area Chart to design surface.
Insert value field to Values pane, then modify it with the expression below:
=runningvalue(Fields!vlaue.Value,sum,"DataSet_name")
Insert date field to Category Group pane.

My iMac Keeps Restarting and The Next Step Is Throwing It Through A Window

Hey
I have had an iMac since December (not sure how many inch it is but was the bigest one they did in December 2008), I went out and when I came back in my iMac was trying to restart after what I think was a Firefox update, it now loads up alright and everything works but sometimes 5 seconds, sometimes 5 minutes, what is seemingly random, the mac just goes on to that dimmed screen with 'You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the restart button' written in four languages.
Loaded up login items and removed everything, trashed Firefox, dunno what else to try?

The grey screen in four languages indicates a kernel panic. They may be either software or hardware caused, but most usually hardware.
Since your computer is still in warranty, I would run (not walk) to either an Apple store or to an Apple-certified technician and have them diagnose and fix the problem.

How to read a data file combining strings and data

Hello,
I'm having a data file combining strings and datas to read. I'm trying to read the filename, time, constants and comments into four seperate string indicators (the lines for the comments varies for different files). And read the data into a 2-D numeric array. How can I do this? Is there any function that can serch special characters in the spreadsheet file so I can exactly locate where I should start reading the specific data. The following is how the data file appears. Thank you very much.

     I'm fairly new to the NI forums too and I think you just have to wait longer. Your post was done right. I do a similiar function as to what you are talking about except I read in numbers from a file. I create an ini file (just a notepad file of type *.ini) that is is set up with sections inside brackets [] and keys with whatever name followed by an = sign. You may be able to use a *.dat file too, I just haven't. Then the vi attached goes to that file and reads the keys from those sections. You just repeat for the different sections and keys you want to read. You can use similar provide VI's to write to that same file or create it. Let me know how that works.

HT203167 one of my tracks i.e. Sultans of swing ( Dire Straits) should last for 10.54 minutes but now only plays for ten second then carries on to the next track, how can I restore the original download ?

How can I re-download the track again to restore it?

Delete problem track from library (if it is an iTunes Store purchase and you entitled to redownload past purchases - stop otherwise!)
Close iTunes
Open iTunes
Select iTunes Store in left-hand column
Select Purchased in right-hand column
Select Music and Not on this computer
The track should be listed now with a small cloud symbol which lets you download it.
If you start downloading the track in step 7 then... While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unticked. (Should should help improve the reliablility of future downloads made with this build of iTunes.)
If the above hasn't helped then... contact the iTunes Store support staff through the "Report a problem" links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

Reading a PWM and determining pulse width using a digital input pin on a NI 9425 DAQ

Hello!
I have been experimenting with LabVIEW for about a week now and have run into a brick wall. I have found a fairly effective way of reading a PWM signal through an analog input and determining the pulse width. However, it is becoming necessary for this project to do this same thing using a digital input. I've been playing with this for about a day now and am not making much headway.
For reference, I will be using a 9524 device
Any ideas?

Also, if it is helpful at all, I've attached two vi's. One, functions just as I need it to - but it doesn't involve data aquisition. The second should be similar to the first, but is non functional - I keep getting an error that my amplitude is zero.
Any thoughts?
