I/o streams reading each character for analizise????

i was wondering if anyone can explain or give me sample code for the following...
id like to get user input for four numbers, each number has its own JTextfield....( i have managed this) but id like to test to see if the numbers are already in a text file and if so to relay a msg back saying security code in use....(or of sort) but if the code isnt there id like it to add it to the text file.......so is this possible, for instance if the "data.txt" file was somethng like this
12,99,05,23
22,44,11,01
and the user enters say 12,99,05,23
how would i be able to check the first digit 12 with the file then 99 and so on until its the end of file...
my basic or practise application is done using the swing api so i cant use system.out.println for the return response, however i have made a very good error class which works fine on reading files....im just stuck with verifying the numbers then i read something about using a delimiter file or comma delimiter and then completely lost the plot...
somehow this comma delimiter thingo has to fit into it to read each digit...from comma to comma but how does it all go together...
any help or guidence will be appreicated....
regard alex

Read a line from the file with a BufferedReader. Use String.split() to break up the line into the individual number strings. (At the next person suggesting to use StringTokenizer instead: read the part of the ST's API to see that its use is discouraged.)
Use Integer.parseInt() to read each number string and to convert it to an int. Then you can compare it to your values.

  • Question on reading one character at a time.

    Hi. I am assigned a program where I have to read a series of bits (for example: 01010101). Using this I have to make a "graph out of it". The way I am supposed to make a graph is as follows:
    Each bit interval will be represented in the output as a field taht is two characters wide.
    The value of the signal is represented using either + (to represent +voltage) or - (to represent - voltage) and is always the second character in the output field.
    The first character in the output field is either:
    ' . ' = to indicate no change from the previous signal value or
    ' / ' = to indicate a negative to positive transition or else
    ' \ ' = to indicate a positive to negative transition
    Example for input: 01010101 and the output would be . + \ - . - / + \ - . - / + . + \ - / +
    The code that I got so far is that I read the input from the command line as a argument which I know is nothing but I would just like to know how to read the character one by one and make a graph which is totally boggling my mind because I have no idea how I can do it. Thank you for your help.
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    public class Encoder
         public static void main(String[] args)
              int b = Integer.parseInt(args[0].trim());
              System.out.println("You spit out --> "+b);

    Alright I sorta got what you were sayin'. The code that I have now is:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    public class Encoder
         public static void main(String[] args)
              String toEncode = String.valueOf(args[0]);
              StringBuffer result = new StringBuffer();
              char lastChar = toEncode.charAt(0);
              char curChar = '0';
              char lastSign = '+';
              int length = toEncode.length();
              for (int i = 0; i < length; i++)
              curChar = toEncode.charAt(i);
              if (curChar != lastChar)
              if (curChar == '0')
              result.append("\\-");
              lastSign = '-';
              else
              result.append("/+");
              lastSign = '+';
              lastChar = curChar;
              else
              result.append(".");
              result.append(lastSign);
              System.out.println("You spit out --> "+result);
    But it doens't work according to what I want it to do. What I need it to do is the following: Lets say we have the input of 01010101, the result we will get is ". + \ - . - / + \ - . - / + . + \ - / +". The reason for this is because of the following: The graph starts on the v all the time. When there is a 0 bit there is no change and when there is a 1 bit there is an inversion of the voltage level so since we started with a 0 bit at v, when we hit 1 bit we would make a inversion to -v and when we hit 0 bit there would be no change. I don't know of what I said is clear to you or not. For this program, what it does for the input of 01010101, the output is
    " . + / + \ - / + \ - / + \ - / + ". Thank you very much.

  • Read a character 1 at a time from a text file

    Hi all,
    I have tried the following to read 1 character at a time from a text file but it did not work;
    int buf_sz = 1;
             try
                BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader( new FileReader( "C:\\bitshift.txt", buf_sz ));
                String rd_line = null;
                while( (rd_line = br.readLine()) != null)
                    System.out.println(rd_line + "\n");
             }I could only get it to read the whole line by removing the buf_sz when creating an instance of the BufferedReader.
    How can I achieve this?
    Thanks

    The Javadoc for Reader.read()
    read
    public int read()
             throws IOException
        Read a single character. This method will block until a character is available, an I/O error occurs, or the end of the stream is reached.
        Subclasses that intend to support efficient single-character input should override this method.
        Returns:
            The character read, as an integer in the range 0 to 65535 (0x00-0xffff), or -1 if the end of the stream has been reached
        Throws:

    Hi jason...
    I can able to read the serial port by 1 byte or 2 byte or 4 byte as i can specify it in the serial port read bytes option..(in visa serial read)..
    I need to acquire 4 bytes of data and pass it to the Math-script node..and save these 4bytes of data in array (1 row and 4 column)..
    And split this array(just like array-indexing.vi) and processing it each each column separately....
    or suggest some method to achieve my task.....please.

    Hi and thanks for you answer.
    I have a line like this :
    String Line = "CU-578355566-sueo-dasdjhghhh";
    char[] charInLine = Line.toCharArray();
    // Here I start the validation :

  • Hash coming after each character in application server xml file

    Hi All,
    I am stuck up in one issue wherein we need to transfer xml files to al11 and then dump these files from application server to a remote location.
    Since the SAP system is ECC6.0 I can safely use Simple transformations for conversion to XML format and then for transfer i have done OPEN DATASET IN BINARY MODE. I have checked for text mode in case of xml files is not working.
    Now the files coming in al11 have hash after each character. Please note hash is coming after each character and not each record. Though files when downloaded to presentations server or FTPed to remote location are coming fine but in al11 these seems to be weird.
    Here is an example of what i am getting in al11.
    ###<#?#x#m#l# #v#e#r#s#i#o#n#=#"#1#.#0#"# #e#n#c#o#d#i#n#g#=#"#u#t#f#-#1#6#"#?#>#

    Could you please help in this regard to remove these unwanted characters.
    Thanks in advance for your inputs.

    Shreya

    I think this is something special regarding UniCode(CodePage) and the defaultview in AL11.
    I made some tests - uploading data with CG3Z or OPEN Dataset.
    There are some differences between CG3Z and OPEN Dataset regarding unicode transformation.
    but this is still unknown for me, too.

  • How to get each character in a string

    as in 'C' we use arrays to get each character of a string stored in array.how can we get each character of a string stored in a variable.

    Hi,
    For that you need to do offset.
    for example one variable called VAR contains string 'HUMERAH'.
    if you want each character of that string then you need to decalre as many variable as the number of string.
    like
    data : var1(1),
             var2(1),
    var(3),
    var(4).
    var1 = var+(1).
    var2 = var+1(1).
    var3 = var+2(1).
    var4 = var+3(1).
    now var1,var2,var3,var4. contains the single characters.

  • Reading long text for more records at a time

    Hi all,
    We have a requirement for which that data like textid textname textobject  and language  must  be taken in to an internal table and for each record in the internal table i  have to read the long text inorder to compare the long text for the given search text.
    If i use Read_text inside the loop and endloop it works but it may not be appropriate in performance point of view.
    Is there any function module which can read long texts for more records at a time.
    The long text data in STXL will be in raw data format right? is there any way to convert raw data to normal so that by hitting the STXL i can read the long text data for more than one record at a time.
    Thanks in advance
    sanju.

    HI Sanju,
    Below is a code snippet which describes reading a long text frm the screen and appending it into the internal table.This code is actually to read the text from the screen and inserting a record into STXl and STXH.
    From your query what i understood is that you are storing the long text from the screen into a internal table and so you not want to use the read_text FM due to performance issue.
    Since tdline(tline table) is 132 char long format i use this small logic to read the screen data and append it to my internal table.
    *Data Declarations
      DATA: lv_strlen TYPE i,
            lv_create TYPE boolean,
            lv_desc TYPE string.
      DATA: ls_text TYPE tline,

      DATA: lt_text TYPE ztty_tline_tab.
      CONSTANTS:
       lc_tdid TYPE  thead-tdid VALUE 'Z001',
       lc_tdobject TYPE thead-tdobject VALUE 'Z_ALERTS'.
    *Appending the text to the internal table.
      lv_strlen = STRLEN( iv_alert_text-alert_text ).
      lv_desc = iv_alert_text-alert_text.
      IF lv_strlen < 132.
        ls_text-tdformat = '*'.
        ls_text-tdline = lv_desc.
        APPEND ls_text TO lt_text.
      ELSE.
    *logic to wrap text
        DO.
          ls_text-tdformat = '*'.
          IF STRLEN( lv_desc ) < 132.
            ls_text-tdformat = '*'.
            ls_text-tdline = lv_desc.
            APPEND ls_text TO lt_text.
            EXIT.
          ENDIF.
          IF lv_desc+132(1) <> ' '.
            CONCATENATE lv_desc(131) '-' INTO ls_text-tdline.
            lv_desc = lv_desc+131.
          ELSE.
            ls_text-tdformat = '*'.
            ls_text-tdline = lv_desc(132).
            lv_desc = lv_desc+132.
          ENDIF.

  • SocketException during reads - JVM_recv in socket input stream read

    I am getting a SocketException when a Java applet talks to our
    WebLogic 7.0 server. The catch is that it only occurs at one site
    (that has very high T1 utilization, although latency is only ~60 ms)
    Our setup is such that the calls hit an Alteon load balancer, which
    then sends the request out to one of 4 IIS clustered servers, where it
    then is sent to one of 2 WL clustered servers. I figured latency
    would be the cause, but on IIS and on WL, the timeouts are set to
    several hundred seconds, so I am not quite seeing where the connection
    is being reset. To be honest, I really don't know if it is WL that is
    killing the connection, as nothing abnormal shows up in the WL log. I

  • For Each Loop for XML Task

    Hello Everyone,
    Please assist with a step by step guide on how to setup a For Each Loop for XML Task
    I'm trying to convert XML to XSLT
    I have tried more than 10 times and i just do not know what i am doing wrong - no error, my package just runs for a few seconds but nothing happens
    Thanks in advance
    Dee

    I managed to get my XML to XSLT to work but now when i run my package to import the data into SQL table,
    it stops after a few records, i get the following error:
    [XML Source [1]] Error: The component "XML Source" (1) was unable to process the XML data. The element "Errors" cannot contain a child element. Content model is text only.

    Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but they refuse. They cling to the realm, or the gods, or love. Illusions. Only the ladder is real.
    The climb is all there is.

  • Is there a Special Character for the number of pages in a document?

    I'm creating a template (in cs6) for a series of documents of variable length, and each document needs to be numbered with the format, "page A of Z." I see the special character for inserting the current page number (A) and I'd like to have the number of pages in the document (Z) added automatically as well. Is there a wildcard, special character, or script that will accomplish this? I'd rather not have to enter the number of pages manually as the value will change as these go through the editing process; I'd prefer to have the numbers update automatically. Has anybody done this before?

    Your first suggestion is the only way to capture the last page of a book that's comprised of independent document files. The last page number text variable works only within a single document.
    Anyone who wants a last page in book text variable badly enough can post a feature request at Wishform.

    You can also, much more simply, create a new text variable. There is
    specifically one for "last page number". That's much simpler.
    Type>Text Variables>Define>New, and in the Type dropdown just select
    "last page number".
