Should I take it that recco'd means 'recommended'? Still have no idea what demo'd means in the context you use. I've often seem it as an abbreviation for 'demonstrate' but that makes no sense. The problem with idiosyncratic abbreviations is that other people don't understand them.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

This is actually based on how the site handles different file types; Hotmail gives it to the browser as "application/octet-stream" or something like it, whereas sites that properly open it in the browser tag it as "application/pdf". Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about this without setting up a proxy to rewrite the HTTP headers. Complaints to Hotmail in the past haven't worked, and it's not possible to override the behavior in Firefox.

It felt as if maybe a virus was at work but I ran Sophos and found nothing.
I store images on my Drobo Raid system but when I work from my Macbook Pro I have no issues, just on the tower.

First of all, why did you say yes to Nero Back up before researching what it does with files already on the HDD? When I install Nero, the Back Up is the first thing I disable, it is a nagging pain, there are much better backup programs available. There are several file recovery programs out there to recover deleted files, that is, if that is what happened. Also, if you haven't overwritten the files, so you should be able to find them.

School Network and Bridge- can't open RAW files

BACKGROUND:
We are running Adobe CS3 in my school Mac lab (OS10.5 new iMacs and a couple of G5 towers). Students are assigned seats and log in to their home directory on the network xServe server. All their preferences, files etc are stored in their home directory, NOT on the individual computer station. Files are synced to their individual station while they work then saved back to their home directory at the end of their work time.. Students use card readers and use Adobe Photo Downloader to upload images to their Picture folder, which then are visible in Bridge.
Today a student brought in his memory card with RAW files from his Canon digital SLR. He was working on the G5 tower. Generic icons for all his RAW files appeared in the Photo Downloader dialog box and we could not see the images. ACR has already been upgraded as far as it goes in CS3.
I have classes of students, most with their own cameras. I am encouraging them to use camera RAW. What do I need to do in order to make sure ALL students can open their images from whatever camera they might have? I wish we can upgrade to CS4 (or 5 when that comes out) but there is no funding for that, so please give me another option.

RAW files from a camera that is too new to be supported directly with CS3's version of ACR can be first converted to DNG using the latest free DNG Converter available from Adobe, and then can be viewed in Bridge and ACR even though the original RAWs cannot.
Your student's RAW files should be convertible in the latest version of Canon's Digital Photo Professional as well, which should have come on a CD with the camera as well as downloadable from Canon's website.

Unable to see raw files in Finder and therefor can't import in aperture

I have loaded my raw files from the CF card (Canon 4DII) into a directory on the Mac. I go into Aperture, select import and select the directory where the files are and none of the raw files appear.
I go into iPhoto and they appear and I am able to import them into iPhoto.
I need to import the files into Aperture. How can I get Aperture to "see" the files in the finder directory?

It doesn't look like your camera is supported, which is why your raw files don't show up to import.

Mine isn't either.
I use DNG Converter from Adobe (Free) to convert my RAW files to DNG. The .DNG files ( not '.dng') are then readable by Aperture.

What I do:
Open DNG converter
Select the folder with the raw files
Save in new location:
Select folder: and create a DNG folder inside the original folder with the RAW images)
File Extension .DNG
Convert.
When i import into Aperture, I choose the option to 'Store files in their original location' (which is an external drive foe me) ... this way i'm not getting duplicates and taking up more space.

Raw file thumbnail and preview problem in Bridge

When downloading raw files from my new Nikon D3, Bridge generates thumbnails that are a fixed size and the preview panel only shows a thumbnail as opposed to enlarging the image to fit the preview panel. Thumbnails and Preview still work fine with jpegs. My versions of CS3, Bridge and Version Cue are up to date, I believe.

Three things:
• You need to make sure you have updated to Photoshop 10.0.1, Bridge 2.1.1.9 and Camera Raw (ACR) 4.6.
• You need to purge the cache for the offending folders through the Tools menu in Bridge.

Raw files from the D300 are not supported by the old, obsolete version of ACR that gets installed by default by CS3. What you're seeing now is the embedded JPEG preview only, not the converted raw. That's why you have to upgrade to ACR 4.6

Your iMac is actually turning ON as proven by the grey folder with the flashing question mark.
The flashing question mark indicates that your system is unable to find a bootable volume. The clicking sound that you hear is probably coming from your hard drive while it tries to recalibrate. I suspect your hard drive has failed.
What model imac do you have? If it's under warranty I suggest taking it in for service. Hopefully you've been maintaining a regular backup of your data as all users should. I lost my data once and it was a valuable lesson. I back up regularily now.
If your iMac came with install disks then you can boot from them, choose your language when asked, then pull down the Utilities menu to launch the Disk Utility application. The Disk Utility application will allow you to verify whether your hard drive has an issue. Usually a clicking sound, assuming it's coming from the hard drive, is a sign of a bad hard drive.
If your system has Lion installed then you can hold down the Command and R keys when you restart the system, then launch the Disk Utility application from the menu that appears.

Some other information the unit is from USA, a 110V and now in Philippines which is 220V I have it on a 110 voltage regulator.(can i plug in to 220 v directly?) I also ran MacKeeper thinking it could be a virus, but its not, i notice if i leave unit on without shut down, the problem occurs less, thinking its a battery problem but I'm not sure.
