I received a pop up notice about computer virus check for my computer It had a MAc logo , so i pushed the icon to screen for viruses. Now it has taken over my computer and constantly switches me to gross sites while I am on line . How do I clean it up?
I received a pop up about virus screening for my computer while on line. It displayed the Mac logo ,so I went ahead and aloowed it to scan for "virus" It isaid I was infected and I could purchase a clean up service by registeringing and paying 39 bucks. I declined and now a warning keeps popping up saying I am infected and must register product and then keeps switching to gross **** sites while Im on line about every 10 min. How can I remove it? It has a logo in my top bar- a red shield w/ an exclamation point on it.

When I try to log on as I have usually done I get a small window
stating that an error has occurred and when I click on what should solve the problem a larger white window appears stating
I should not close the window...although several times I have
not close the window all I get is 2 blue spinning circles.
I feel like Firefox has taken over my heretofore routine

HELP!!!!!That file could be set as a Launch Agent or Daemon in your ~/Library or /Library, You could try to look for it or Safeboot your computer and then empty the trash. I used to get a field of 9 options to open when I opened a new page by clicking on the + button on the right side of the Search tab. After I updated Firefox a couple of days ago, my homepage had been taken over by something called "Fantasti Games". I can't find it anywhere to uninstall "Fantisti Games". I now have Google come up as my homepage when I open Mozilla Firefox, but each tab that I open comes up with the "FantastiGames" search engine. I need to get rid of that from my computer and revert back to what I had before, which was when I opened a new tab, I got nine large icons on the screen that gave me the choice of common sites to go to (such as AOL, YouTube, Weather.com, Google, etc.). Please tell me how to uninstall "FantastiGames".
This is embarrassing. It sounds like you have a third party program that has taken over your search engine, home page, and/or the default new tab page. Fortunately, this can be remedied easily:
# At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
# In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
# Select the toolbar you wish to remove.
# Click the remove button.
# Click "Restart now" if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.
After Firefox restarts, install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Search Reset Tool]. This will remove the rest of the traces of this program from your Firefox.

ITunes has taken over my computer
Don't get me wrong--I really like iTunes since I bought an iPod Nano and installed iTunes on my computer. But...I seem to have lost control of all things audio. When I put in a CD, it plays in iTunes instead of Windows Media Player like before. When I play a song from the My Music folder, it plays in iTunes instead of WMP as before. I'd just like to have a choice. What do I do? Thanks.
Just as an experiment try approaching it the other
way. Find a song in windows explorer, right click and
select properties. The 'opens with' will (in your
case) likely show iTunes. Click the Change button and
find your preferred player and ok that choice. It
should change all files of that music type to play in
new player.

Thanks. I did that with a CD and it worked just fine because I got the drop-down box allowing me to choose the player for all similar files. When I tried it with an individual song in Explorer, it did just as you said except that it made the change only for that song (file). I checked other songs' properties and they all have itunes as the choice, so it appears I would have to change every one of them. BTW, I have a grandson who is a sophomore at the University of Michigan in the USA who is studying right now at the University of Melbourne. He says everybody he has met in Australia is nice. -
Window 7 has taken over my IMac and I can't get back to Mac OS
I have been running window 7 with bootcamp for about a month. Until recently, I could click the bootcamp icon in the windows systray and restart in Mac OS. Well, this week, I could no longer see the Bootcamp icon in the systray. Right clicking on the systray would bring up a window with options for various "hidden icons" one of which was the Bootcamp icon. I changed the status from "show only messages" to "always show" but still couldn't see the icon. So I clicked on the option to "show all icons on taskbar" and still can't see the bootcamp icon and now can't get back to the "options menu" ;(

I've tried entering the command at the command line as suggested in an apple help doc,(it's a long command and I don't have it handy but I copied it from the web page) but that just gives a "command not recognized" error.

TIACheck your control panels which is where that shortcut goes anyway.
Holding x on startup should also boot into Mac OS.
Boot from OS X DVD and go to Utility menu => Disk Utility, and repair your Mac partition.
You may want to do some maintenance on Windows as well. -
In the Navigation Toolbar, the icons "Back", "Forward" etc. show the small icon and the descriptive text below the Icon. My Bookmark Toolbar use to have the same icon/text format but at some point, possibly a browser update, that changed. Currently, I do have a visible Bookmark Toolbar BUT the icons do not show the website icon, as previously, and the text below each icon is gone. I an cursor over each icon and the text becomes visible next to the icon. This is a bit of a pain to find a bookmark. Can I do a customization to return to the icon/text format.
Was this changed because browser users requested this option, or was it an internal decision.? If the later why make such changes when not requested?
Ed SanderThat wasn't a change in Firefox. It sounds like something is broken in your Firefox installation, or you are misunderstanding the different between the Bookmarks Toolbar and the other Toolbars.
In the Bookmarks Toolbar the text appears next to the website icon, not below the icon as with the other two Toolbars, and it's not switchable between text and no text as with the other Toolbars. With both the bookmark icon and the Bookmark name missing, something is broken in your installation. You need to do a little troubleshooting.

If your problem isn't related to an extension, your bookmarks data base file (places.sqlite) is probably corrupt. <br />

Be aware that if you delete the "places.sqlite" and similar files, your bookmark website icons won't automatically appear (the JSON backups don't have that icon data) when you restart Firefox and the places.sqlite is rebuilt using the backup data file, but the icons should be saved the first time each bookmark is used for the first time. -
I was trying to open a file, the box came up saying that windows could not open the file and choose another program to open the file, I chose reader as it was the first option offered. Reader could not open the file either but when I closed the file I fount that nearly all the desktop icons had changed to reader icons and when I tried to open them a box comes up advising that reader cannot open that file. The only way that I can open my apps is to uninstall reader. When I uninstall reader the Icons return to normal. As soon as I re install reader all my icons change back to reader icons. How can I reverse this?

I have just downloaded Firefox 4 and was trying to install it. I need to get to my old browser but I cannot get away from Firefox. How the devil do you close it? It covers the entire screen and I cannot even get to dock to change anything. I'm already fed up with program and intend to delete the whole thing as soon as you tell me how I can regain control of my computer. Turning the computer off does no good because Firefox is right in my face when I turn it on again. I was adding themes from Firefox and signed up for the "background" program. It has put a slide show on my computer and I want it off NOW. How do I remove it because I don't even know how to get to it? It showed a wooden floor to start with and now it showing horrible pictures that I never picked out.

My situation is 2 home computers (Windows XP) sharing 1 modem, but have their own apps. Mozilla on the other computer is fine. Just this one which Bearshare was downloaded to.
It took over the Homepage in IE too, but I was able to change it using Internet Options.
The message which comes up when I try to change the Homepage is "An attempt to change the homepage has been blocked"
TksYou only get an alert stating "An attempt to change the homepage has been blocked" if you have security software or an extension that is protecting against such a change. Firefox doesn't do that by itself. If starting in [[Safe mode]] didn't help then that only leaves security software, so you need to look to see how you can allow a home page change.

Help. iphoto has taken over my computer's HD over 50gig. why?
okay, i have iphoto 8. 20,776 pictures and over 50gig of hard drive. it seems that every time i make a small import, multiple gigs are consumed. i just found out about the "copy photos to iphoto library" tab and unclicked it. however, i fear that iphoto is eating up more than double what it should be due to multiple copies of pictures stowed away who knows where. basically, when i open iphoto and scroll through all the pictures, they look as i want them to be. i don't need copies because i back everything up with time machine anyway. what can i do to just have one of each picture saved to my computer and viewed through iphoto? iphoto diet cant work because i read that it isn't approved for iphoto 8 and could cause problems. is there anything i can do to just keep all the pictures i see inside of my iphoto app and nothing else? i really appreciate any help, this is so frustrating!

lukeIt sounds like what you need instead of iPhoto is an image browser like Picassa, JetPhoto Studio, FR-PhotoStudio, QPick or Photonator. They can all be found at VersionTracker.com.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in the library rebuild pane, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.
