I recently went to look at pictures in iphoto and once I click on them I get a black screen with an exclamation point?

It was fine yesterday?  I can see the photos when I scroll over the "event" in iphoto but when I open it and click on a picture, It gives me a big exclamation point?  Only on recent photos?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • When I try to enlarge pictures in iPhoto I get a black screen with an triangle with a "!".

My iMac hard drive crashed and I reloaded Lion and applications including iPhoto. I reloaded the iPhoto database from a backup hard drive. When I open iPhoto I can see my pictures in their events groups. However, when I try to enlarge them I get a black screen with an traingle with an "!". How do I correct the problem.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.

  • When I click on almost any picture, in any album, to enlarge it, the pic starts to enlarge and then all I get is a black screen with a large exclamation point in the center.  What have I done to my iPhoto program, and how do I fix it?

Recently, whenever I click on almost any of my pictures, in any album, in order to enlarge that photo, it starts to enlarge but then,
very quickly I get a black screen with a large white exclamation mark in the middle.  And no full sized photo. Boo!
What did I do to my iPhoto program, and how can I fix it?
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Mike H.

I'm sorry.  Too old to understand this stuff.  I'm sure this seems real stupid to you.  But I have no idea how one
would "right click on the Original iPhoto Library" (I know, I know, 'as stated").
Do I right click on the symbol in the dock??  Or open it first and then, . .  I can't find a way to right click on the word iPhoto in the top bar.
Or should I open the program you had me download.  There I can find something called "original iPhoto library".
When I "right click" on that I get some options.  None of them are "original folders".  There's "reveal library in finder", and "dupilicate library and "sort libraries".  I have no idea if any of these are what you want, or if any of these might change something.
When I clicked on "reveal library in finder" earlier on it showed me the copy of the photo library that I made a while ago, sitting right where I know it is on my desktop.  And if I click on that symbol it shows me all the pictures again.  Just like in my regular iPhoto files - all the thumbs are there, but most can't be opened to full sized.
Are we making progress here?  I'm sure this is frustrating to you.  This is just pictures of family.  Even the thumbs are nice to look at.  But this is nothing critical - like work related or anything.
    Thanks.
    Mike

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • When i enlarge photo (on some of my pictures) it quickly changes to a triangle with an exclamation point in the middle - how do I correct this problem?

It started a few days ago.  I was looking through my photos.  I could check them when they were smaller - as soon as I enlarged them - screen turned black, a grey triangle with an exclamation point appeared in the middle.  It is not changing every picture - just some.  How do I get rid of this problem?  What caused this in the first place?  Any help would be appreciated.

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.
    Happy Holidays

  • I am having trouble viewing some of my pictures on iPhoto. A triangle with an exclamation point in the middle pops up instead, what can I do to get my pictures to show again?

I am having a hard time viewing some of my pictures or event file in my iPhoto library. Most of my pictures look blank with a black background and a triangle with an exclamation point in the center of the screen. Is there a way I can fix this issue?

Are they RAW image files and not JPG files? iPhoto does not support all types of RAW files. Get a Real Image Viewing/Editing/Cataloging program which iPhoto is not.

I have had a 3GS for 2+ years.  After upgrading to IOS 4 (now 4.3.5) I began having problems.  In the past week, my screen went to the itunes logo and USB cable twice -- unprovoked -- just found it sitting there like that!  I connected to itunes and it did restore from a backup but it is a major inconvenience.  I am also searching for answers, but better back-up regularly!

When I open firefox (note: I got firefox version 28.0 and Karspersky security 2014) I get a black screen covering the whole firefox window and it looks more lika a big command prompt window, in firefox. What is it?

    Huh, that's a new one...
Can you try Firefox in [[Safe Mode | Safe Mode]] to see if the problem goes away. I'm thinking it's an extension.
*Run ''firefox.exe -safe-mode'' in the search bar on the Start Menu. (Make sure Firefox is closed)
Have you added any new extensions recently around the time this started happening? Your system details shows the following:
*Adobe Acrobat - Create PDF 1.2 ([email protected])
    *Anti-Banner 14.0.0.4917 ([email protected])
*Dangerous Websites Blocker 14.0.0.4917 ([email protected])

*Troubleshooter 1.1a ([email protected]) '''This is default so this isn't the problem.'''

I hope you have a backup if you don't want to lose your iPad contents. You have to restore the iPad now using iTunes on your computer. That's what the message on the screen means.
    Take a look at this.

No you won't necessarily lose your photos when upgrading but it's very very unwise not to back up first. Backing up is like using a seat belt in a car. You can drive without one for years and have no issues, but if you do have a problem the outcome will be a lot worse. So, too, with back ups. And upgrading is one of those times when the risks of a problem are higher.
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • Importing pictures into iPhoto and Mac

    Hello,
I like to store my pictures on an external hard drive that I share with my Mac and other PCs and media sharing (PS3, Wii) consoles. I use the iPhoto to organize my pictures on the Mac by event/faces/places etc. But I do not want to use the iPhoto's library to store my pictures. The pictures need to go into my external hard drive.
I do want to use my Mac as the computer to move the pictures from my camera onto my external hard drive. When moving the pictures to my external hard drive, I like to setup a separate folder for each event and name my pictures with the event name and a sequence number.
I have accomplished some of this by setting the preference in iPhoto to not copy the pictures into library when importing.
I am looking for some type of seamless solution to accomplish the following
When I insert the SD card into my Mac, I want it to allow me to copy my pictures where I want them with the names I want to give it and then finally move them to iPhoto for me to organize them using events/faces/places.
If any of you are familiar with the Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard, I am looking for something like that. This software automatically starts up when you connect any camera to it. It brings up all the pictures in the camera and then allows you to select or deselect the pictures you want to move. It then prompts you to enter the file prefix and folder where you want to copy the pictures. Also gives you option to delete the pictures after import. Once you click the button, it starts to copy the pictures and it even lets you publish the pictures to web if you choose to do so.

Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) will do some of what you want. There are other apps that will do batch renaming and so on.
Some comments on your proposed set up:
Having the Library on one volume and the photos referenced from another can be very problematic. iPhoto uses a very simple tool for workign with Referenced Libraries: Aliases. Aliases are perfectly good when the Library and the photo are on the same volume - the alias will track when the original moves and so on. However,  if anything changes in the path to a file on another volume the alias will break, and you'll may find yourself repairing it manually for everyone of these photos, one by one.
Another point to bear in mind, the edited versions of photos will not be available to the other devices.
Iphoto may not be the app you want for this job.

  • I am going to sell my second generation ipod touch, so i resetted it to factory defaults. It said it would take up to an hour, and i patiently waited. But when the black and white loading bar completed, the ipod went to the black screen with an apple logo

I am going to sell my second generation ipod touch, so i resetted it to factory defaults. It said it would take up to an hour, and i patiently waited. But when the black and white loading bar completed, the ipod went to the black screen with an apple logo on it. Sounds about right, right? But now, there is a processing circle on top of the logo, but the circle spins once, and stops at about halfway to the bottom. It just stays there, and about every half to one hour it becomes a white screen and starts all over again. (not the loading bar part, just the circle). I've tried holding the power and the home button, and it works, but it just goes back to the circle screen with the apple logo. HELP PLEASE?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
