  • Moving router to different ethernet port

I live in an apartment building.  When I got Verizon internet set up, the router was connected to a ethernet port in the closet.  However, after getting a Network Extender for the apartment, I've found that it would be much more convenient to have the router plugged into a ethernet port in the living area, so the Network Extender could be close to the window -- otherwise, I have to run the GPS device from inside the closet to the other side of the apartment.
I tried plugging the router into this ethernet port, and my devices were all able to connect to the wireless network, but not able to access the internet.
Is there anything I can do to make the router work off the port in the living room?

You've posted in a DSL/Dial-up forum.  Do you have DSL or FiOS?
What model of router and network extender do you have?  None of the Verizon supplied equipment has GPS, so I'm curious about what you really have.
This info will up us peers give you better advice.
    Thanks.

  • I have a iMac g4 swivel and it seems that the ethernet port and the optical drive are not working.

Is there any troubleshooting I can try, short of replacing everything?
I really love this version of the iMac and want to use it in place of my eMac for some home business inventory and printing work.
I need the ethernet to work because the printer can only connect that way.  It's a great laserjet from HP (1998 version) and it works like a champ.
As for the disc drive... I would love to install office or iwork but as I said nothing seems to mount.  I also can't upgrade it to Tiger.  It's running Panther and I can live with that I suppose.
I have wondered if I could exchange parts from the eMac (Motherboard, Optical Drive, Hard Drive) since  its bulkyness takes up so much room.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
And yes I have a modern macbook pro as well.

You can use the dvd drive on your macbook via target disk  mode.

    1) Do you have a router?  Do you communicate to the internet via wifi?
connect the printer to a router with an ethernet port. This will be an input eithernet port.
You may need to change ip addresses on your printer or on your network.
    2) usb to ethernet dongle

verify that the dongle will work on your machine.  Any drivers needed?
    3) You can firewire to for TCP/IP ( ethernet) to comunicate between macs.  Connect your printer to your macbook. Use firewire to communicate between macs.  Enable printer sharing.

In order to download to your phone over the air, you need to be connected to WiFi.
It's possible the Internet connection through Verizon is not stable enough for the downlaod to begin (it is a very large download).
You might want to head over to Starbucks with your laptop for the afternoon and see if you can download it over their WiFi.

  • Looking for an Access Point with 2 Ethernet ports and powered via PoE

    Hi Gurus,
I am looking for an Access Point with 2 Ethernet ports and the access point can be powered via PoE. I have been assigned with a requirement where the rooms need to have access point as well as an Ethernet Cable provided from the Access Point as a backup for connectivity.
The room only has one data cable coming from the main IT room as well does not have a spare power socket to power the Access Point. Will be good if it can be centrally controlled or controller based.
    Any recommendations?
    Regards
    J

For the backup plan, the cheapest solution may be to just run a couple new cat5e drops to the room(est cost $250). If not then purchase a small Cisco POE switch for the room(est cost $2k). For wireless I would purchase a POE enabled Cisco AP. But you will need to verify the POE switch/blade you will be connecting the AP to can power the AP you buy. I got burned by that issue when we purchased some Cisco 1251 AP's with dual radios and they needed more power than our 4500 POE blades could handle. We were told we would need to purchase new 48 port 10/100/1000 blades or power injectors. Our Cisco sales vendor took the heat for that mistake.

  • Dual Ethernet Ports, and Air Port Wifi

I have a early 2008 and 2009 Mac Pro and was wondering if there was a way to connect both ethernet ports and the airport wifi as one "adress" so i would essentially have 3x the bandwith for downloading/uploading, etc.
This is in both Snow Leopard and Win XP Via Boot Camp

You might start by reviewing this thread and associated links:
    http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=57382.
Apparently it should be possible to link the ethernet ports together but not the wireless.

  • Unable to share my Airport network thru my Ethernet port

This used to work under 10.4
The option to share my Airport internet connection over ethernet has disappeared from my sharing control panel (the only option I'm given is "firewire".
It is conceivable that the ethernet cable has mysteriously stopped working but unlikely and even so the option should still be available (I don't have a firewire cable connected). Note: Network Utility shows that the ethernet cable is connected; the port is occasionally, though rarely, receiving packets but not sending.

    Yes,
As an update, I borrowed a firewire cable, turned on sharing of my Airport and made the connection. The client machine is able to detect both connections (the firewire and the ethernet). however, it never received a DHCP cert. so even though I had the satisfaction of seeing the control panel displaying a successful share, this was no more effective than the ethernet. I still think it is highly suspect that the ethernet option is missing when trying to share my airport connection but there is obviously more here. Is there an easy way to reset/restore my settings (something is clearly not right here). Also I borrowed a buddies macbook pro and all worked as it is supposed to so the problem is definitely not with the client but with my mac.
If it helps to understand my level of experience. I used to teach classes on XML and XSL/XSL-T, I've looked at some of the relevant plists (hoping they'd be more self explanatory than they were). I'm not going to try to edit any of this without understanding what the fields do and I'm far from a Unix expert but given guidance I'm not likely to screw up editing or replacing some files if that will fix the problem.
I'm going to try the Genus bar in the morning but I'm not really optimistic -- I respect the Genus bar guys but I also sense this is beyond the depth of their style of support.
Maybe I should just reinstall the OS but I'm not looking forward to that and I'm not convinced that the problem isn't in the user space in which case I'd have wasted a lot of time for nothing.

  • Poor network performance on wired ethernet port and airport

I'm using Leopard 10.5.1 on a home network comprised of a new, fully up-to-date (firmware wise) D-link wireless router and a couple ethernet hubs. I initially had problems because of old router firmware, but buying the new router and making sure firmware was up-to-date seems to have solved the connection problems. What I now experience is that whichever network cennection I am using, wireless or wired ethernet port, will slow down so slow that it's impossible to get any web content, upload files to my local server, or sent emails with any kind of attachment. Turning off the connection I am using, either wired ethernet or airport, and switching to the other solves the problem for a short time, usually a couple days or so. Then that connection with slow down and I have to switch back - again solving the problem. So to keep my network connection alive, I have to keep switching back and forth between the wired ethernet and the airport connection.
The rest of my network consists of several Windows machines including a Windows 2000 server. None of these devices ever have any problems with network access.
I've tried playing with the advanced settings with no luck. Does anyone know of a specific setting that might be the culprit?

    Hi ,
Maybe you can try to disable checksum offloading and jumbo frames on the Physical NIC (ESX platform) to check result .

  • HT1515 can i hook up a ethernet printer and a usb printer to the same airport express

I want to hook up an ethernet printer and a usb printer to an airport express? Is this possible and how should I set up the airport express?

I have an Airport Extreme, 5th generation, that is hooked to the internet and is the source of my home network. I am replacing an old AXs 801.11g with an 801.11n unit. The need to run a printer on the USB port is because it is an old HP 7400 all in one with a wireless g card. I want to set the network up for all wireless N and 5 Ghz for hopefully faster network speed. It is my understanding that if the network is set that way, the wireless g printer will not be recognized on the network. Since I currently am running a ethernet only Xerox Laser on the ethernet port, I would need to hook the HP using USB inorder to keep it on the network for scanning and such. Thanks to you and your information, I think I have the bases covered. If there is a best way to set up the AXs, or if I am missing something more, I thank you in advance and look forward to your assistance.
    Thanks

  • I have a current 2TB Time Capsule. I would like to add more ethernet ports for needed expansion. Will an Airport Extreme conflict with the Time Capsule for needed ethernet ports and will wireless from both units conflict?

I own a current 2TB Time Capsule and I need to expand my network system to include more ethernet (wired) ports. I am considering an Airport Extreme that would give me enough wired ports. Will the wireless capabilities of both units conflict with each other? I only need one wireless network. Thank you for any help.

While you could certainly add an AirPort Extreme to provide additional Ethernet ports, you could also save about $150 by purchasing an inexpensive switch, such as one of these:
    http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DGS-1005G-5-Port-Gigabit-Desktop/dp/B003X7TRWE/
    http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Unmanaged-GREENnet-Auto-Negotiation-Auto-MDIX/dp/ B001QUA6R0/
Consumer grade Ethernet switches typically come in five and eight port configurations. Just be aware that a five port switch only conveys the ability to add three additional devices. An eight port switch conveys the ability to add six additional devices.
An 8 port switch provides twice the capacity of a 5 port switch for considerably less than twice the cost. The price difference between the two is often only $10 or so.
I just checked, the 8 port version of the Trendnet switch above costs exactly $4 more.
An AirPort Extreme is a very flexible full featured wireless router, and would provide three additional LAN ports for wired devices. If all you need is a few more ports though, it's overkill.

  • WRT160NL blinking Ethernet ports and wireless LED

I have a 2-3 month old WRT160NL that has been working fine until 2-3 days ago I noticed that the Ethernet port thats connected to a computer and the wireless LED has started blinking rapidly.  Even after a power cycle that this blinking happens.  Router seems to function ok BUT by internet connect has slowed down specially the wireless part.  Any ideas?  I have a wireless printer that's connected to this router and I can not even ping it anymore. It never did this before and I have not changed any settings lately.  I have borrowed a friend's WRT160NL and no blinking on his router and provides me with a fast connection and my wireless printer works using his WRT160NL.
Any help is appreciated, else I'll probably return this router under warantee.
    Thank you.

thanks for the replies.  figured out the problem.  the router is secure.  for some reason the wireless connection between the wireless printer and the router has dropped low which made the router to send out "more packets or signals" to keep the connection going which explains the very constant blinking on the wireless light.  when i moved the printer a little closer the blinking stopped.  this probably would explain my "slower" internet connections specially with wireless.  i just fiddled around with the linksys antenna and things look ok.  im just currently trying to figure out how to "extend" that wireless reach from the router to the printer -- maybe a high gain antenna.
    thank you.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Firstly, you need to change your details with Apple,  Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > store, scroll down and tap your ID)

  • I installed a new router from my ISP provider and now I can't find my Time Capsule or "Guest" network.  What do I need to do to correct this problem?

I installed a new (and supposedly better & stronger) router from my ISP provider (Verizon) and now I can't find my Time Capsule or "Guest" network.
My Mac is not backing up because it can't find my Time Capsule network & my "Guest" network has also disappeared.
What do I need to do to correct this problem?

You must reset the TC to factory and start over. The TC simply remembers too much from the previous setup to work in the new one.
If your new router is going to take the router role, then the TC will have to be bridged and you will lose your Guest wireless.. the way around this is to use the Verizon router as your guest wireless and the TC as your main wireless.
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    Factory reset Gen 5
Hold in reset for about 5sec until the status light flashes quickly.
If your AirPort Time Capsule still doesn’t respond, do a similar reset to the Gen1-4.
Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule .. hold in reset and power the TC back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.
