I tried to start my mac up but it gets stuck on the white screen

Then when it's there the little circle goes round but it doesn't stop and just keeps going and then the computer overheats so we have to unplug it, what do i do to fix it and how do i do it

I would reboot while holding down the Option-Command- P-R keys all at once to reset the PRAM on your system, and see if that clears it.  If that doesn't solve it, assuming you actually are running Mac OS X 10.6.8, I would then recommend inserting your Original Installation Disk that came with your iMac when you bought it and run the Extended Apple Hardware Test two to three times to try and diagnose if it's a hardware problem.
Hope this helps

  • My cloud has stopped working. I tried using it and all it does is get stuck on the loading screen

So what can I do? I just got a better phone and I am trying to restore everything on that phone but it will not go off the loading screen. I tried force stopping it and uninstalling and reinstalling it. it still wont load up. My cloud wont even log in on the desktop app

Which phone are you transferring from and which phone are you transferring to?
Go to the App store and download JS Backup. On your old phone start the backup app and tell it you want to transfer the content to the new phone. On the new phone you want to restore or import the info. then follow the instructions and get some coffee. It will take about 15 minutes to do it all.
Then on the new phone save your contacts to Google so you do not run into VZW Cloud hell trying to get them back. For other content you can use JS Backup and save it to your computer (it will do it automatically with the computer app as well.
Then Disable VZW Cloud and save yourself a lot of headache and trouble over the next 2 years.

  • I went away for a week and shut my MacBook Pro down. Since being back it has been super slow so I decided to restart it. Now it gets stuck at the white screen with the apple and spinning circle. HELP!!! I tried restarting over again and it didnt help.

Sometimes it will stay at the apple screen and sometimes it just shuts back off. The battery is fully charged.

I'm pretty sure it's mountain lion. Neither of your links worked tho, but thanks for trying! I'm new to Macs and only really know the basics of how to use it. When I power on and hold the option key I can chose to recover my Mac. What will that do? Will I lose pictures and stuff? I just went to Mexico and all my pics are on there and I'd hate to lose them, also lots of pics of my little boy.
Hmmmm, they are both working for me.   What happened when you clicked on the links?  Any error messages?

  • Trying to start in safe mode but keep getting a panic advisor

Trying to start in safe mode but keep getting a panic advisor? Any idea why I cannot start in safe mode?

    Hi garfire1,
Do you have an external disk with a Time Machine backup on it?
If you do, try to boot to the Recovery Partition of the TM disk.
    - During a boot press the Option key after the chime but before you see a grey screen and then select the TM disk
    - If you boot to this Recovery Partition, you have options to run Disk Utility to try and Repair/Repair Permissions of the internal disk or you can select to restore from the TM Backup.
    Cheers

    orshikhfromsc,
boot from the Mac OS X Install DVD that originally came in the box with your MacBook Pro (by holding down the C key as it starts up). When the desktop appears, select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu and erase your internal disk. After it’s been erased, reformat it. After it’s been reformatted, exit Disk Utility and reïnstall the version of Mac OS X from that DVD onto your internal disk. After that version of Mac OS X has been reïnstalled, boot from your internal disk and run Software Update to get it up-to-date within that version; that should allow you to redownload and reïnstall Mavericks, if  desired. If Mavericks is reïnstalled, run Software Update again to get it up to date.
If you no longer have the two grey installation DVDs, you can purchase a replacement set from either Apple or iFixit.

I have a 22" iMac desktop running OSX 10.6  Snow Leopard and it won't boot. I've tried shift start, option command P R. It's stuck at the restart, all I see is the spinning wheel below the apple logo. And I lost my OSX DVD is there any way to fix this? I just did a software update yesterday and have about 20GB left on my Hard drive. The last thing I did was try to install some plugin's for Pro Tools 8, but it wouldnt let me install so I restarted and now I'm screwed. Please Help!
other specs for my computer: 3.06GHz Intel core 2 duo processor 500 GB Serial ATA hard drive, iSight, magic mouse, wireless mac keyboard
    iPod classic 160GB (Late 2009), Mac OS X (10.6.6)

You have to consider the possibility the hard drive may be dying.    If your data isn't backed up, try one of the tools below:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1689
Once you are sure your data is backed up, we can examine other possibilities.  In the meantime call AppleCare for your original installation DVDs.  You may need them.

        Hello otter314!
Let's take a look into this to see if we can figure out what happened. When did this begin? What's the software version of the device? Do you remember what was happening with the device right before this started? Please supply me with some additional information, I'm happy to help with a resolution!

Doublechecking something Emcee. I see you've got Windows 7 x64, so I'm assuming you've got at least 4 GB of RAM. Do you also have an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset on that PC? If so, see the following Microsoft document:

  • Mac Pro gets stuck on the grey screen and won't finish booting

I have a Mac Pro 1, 1 recently (successfully) upgraded to snow leopard that gets stuck on the grey screen with the spinning rainbow cursor (after the apple logo and brief blue screen) and won't finish booting up. This happened after my computer froze up and I had to force quit.  I checked out the forums and I tried all the all the suggestions (like disconnecting peripherals) and appropriate disk utilities, saw no errors with the HD reported, and had no trouble doing a safe boot  (everything works o.k. there) or starting up from the software disk to perform the repairs.  I did notice that during the repair permissions command, it gets stuck in the last few minutes, the CD starts to chug along, and everything freezes and I have to force quit.  This happens every time I try it.  I eventually backed everything up, erased the HD and reinstalled the OS, reset PRAM and NVRAM, but I'm still getting the grey screen on restart.  Tech tool deluxe reports a "fail" on the video RAM, but everything else seems to check out.  Could it be a graphics card issue?   I did notice some funky visual glitches occurring prior to the breakdown.  Any other ideas?

I wouldn't trust Apple Disk Utility to do a hard drive repair, but I would go with TechTool Pro 5/6 if you have that instead of Disk Warrior from Alsoft.
Clone the drive, though you should have some bootable backup clones already; repair the clone; then boot and work from that drive. Always have a working copy of the system.
And off load all your data to other drives.

    Hey Msazama30,
First, I would start off your troubleshooting by following the steps in this link:

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
