I Tunes U Public Site Manager not updating Provider-Hosted Feed

1. This morning I deleted a Provider-Hosted feed from the collections.
2. I edited the file changing the feed graphic and the <itunesu:category itunesu:code=”000” />. I used 3 or 4 variations of 3 and 6 digit codes in the item. I wanted to see how the i Tunes U Public Site Manager was using the tag.
3. The rest of the items were not changed.
4. Code checked at feed validator--valid.
5. Opened iTunes Public Site Manager > Collections > Add Collections.
6. Feed added. Only showed up in Business Category although one item was tagged 100.
7. Deleted feed again. Repeated 2 - 5. The interface moves like there is something happening,
then the page refreshes and there is no new feed in the list - collections page.
8. Rechecked with feed validator. Repeated Step 5. Same issue.
9. Changed feed name, rechecked with feed validator, repeated step 5. Same issue.
(Feeds appear to upload but are not listed.)
10. Thinking perhaps a cookie issue I changed machines and had the same results.
11. Currently we cannot add any Provider hosted feeds.

We are investigating the slowness, but we haven't been able to reproduce the situation where you cannot add "Apple-Hosted Feed". While we continue investigating, we wanted to let you try this again to see if you can get thru this time. Perhaps the issue had something to do with the condition particular to the time period. Can you give it a try and let us know?

  • Public Site Manager - GIF files

It appears the PSM will only accept JPG or PNG files for album art. Since our current site uses GIF file in many feeds, I assume I'll have to convert all to a supported format. Question: Do I also have to manually replace each image that was manually uploaded to our iTunes U site?
Or will the new PSM pull all images from rss feeds and trash any manually uploaded images from our old iTunes U site?
    thanks

iTunes U Public Site Manager copies course images from your original course pages, *except for feed groups*, and displays the images in your new collection pages as collection art. For collections created from a feed group in your original site, include image details within the feed itself. iTunes U Public Site Manager uses elements within the feed to populate your collection page.

  • I cannot Publish my site after using the Publish Public Site Manager. An error, with no explanation is returned.

The problem we’re having has to do with transitioning our existing Easter I Tunes U site over to an iTunes U Public site as the instructions below tell us to do.
    -          I can access the itunes U Public Site Manager fine with my ID.
    -          I was able to make some changes to our existing site to get it ready for publishing it to the iTunes U public site format.
    -          I can preview our existing site as a new Public Site fine from within the Public Site Manager application.
    -          However, when I try to Publish it I get an error that says :   An error has occurred during the publishing of your content. Try again
Looking for some support to tell me what we’re not doing correctly to migrate our existing site over.

    Here are the answers
Eastern CT State University is no longer in the iTunes U directory .    r
The have not migrated their site to iTunes U Public Site Manager. Starting June 2010 we notified all iTunes U site administrators for any site in the iTunes store that they would need to migrate their existing site to iTunes U Public Site Manager in the future. In Feb. 2011 we notified them that the deadline for migration would be April 2011 and that if they had not migrated their site would no longer appear on the list.
For Eastern CT State University to return to the list, they just need to transition over to an iTunes U Public Site Manager based site. Information on how to do so can be found here -http://deimos.apple.com/rsrc/doc/UsingiTunesUPublicSiteManager/CommonQuestions/c hapter_14_section_2.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/iTUPSM-CH5-SW2

    Nick Good ?uestion!
I am the New Admin for The University of New Orleans, and after reading the response to your initial question I think we fall into the category of needing to migrate to Public site manager. But looking at the tutorial which is mainly text, I cannot follow the instructions. Do you have a screen shot of what step two because I cannot find the " iTunes U Public Site Manager in the Tools area."
    Thank you!

  • ITunes U Public Site Manager Application

I did not put a high enough supervisor for the Public Site manager as we are a k-12 school and high managers would have had issues even knowing how to access a course, let alone be in charge, but I have been rejected. How do I apply again?

    Duncan,
I appreciate your willingness to help. The site can be found here:

I am the site administrator, and I want to add content to an existing collection. I have been adding content to existing collections since the site was created several years ago, but since the recent June 1 update to the Public Site Manager things have obviously changed and I cannot seem to find a way to add content. Maybe I am missing something obvious, but I can't seem to figure out how to do this.
As a work around, I created a new apple ID and added it as a "user" and then as a "contributor" to the collection I want to add content to. I then logged out and then in again as this new contributor, and I was able to add the content as before (the update). I was hoping that I would be able to log in as the administrator and upload content without having to use another login.

  • Odd Behavior in Public Site Manager

    Greetings All;
Is anyone else experiencing unusual behavior in Public Site Manager?  Specifically, after I created a new Collection and
began to add content, I began to get a "Sorry, this page is currently being edited. Please try again later." message.
Also, my session seems to "time out" almost immediately.

Hi Duncan - I work with about six collections in Wellesley College's iTunes U site. Is there any specific information that might help you?
Late last afternoon around 2-3, I was able to publish my item (essentially by going to the item which was already visible in the collection and resaving it/signing out very quickly before the timeout had a chance to get me.) After that, I had noticed that the timeouts were no longer occuring as quickly, but the next time I logged in I got an odd error when I clicked the "return to collections manager" link. Unfortunately I did not think to copy the error, though it was a white page and looked like some sort of script error.
However, when I went back to take a screenshot of it today, everything looks fine as far as I can see. No unnaturally quick timeouts or links throwing errors. (I do still get the "sorry, currently being edited" if I close the browser on a collection without properly signing out, but as far as I'm aware that is normal.)
I will try to find some new content to upload and report back if there are any problems with that. But for now it looks like we're fine here.
Best of luck with your own, Syd.

  • Public site manager

I need to edit my original application for public site manager. How do I do this?

    Hello, Graham.
A similar situation happened here a few days ago.
I published an iTunes U course, not a collection, at 6:00 PM Thursday, June 26. It still did not show up in iTunes U Store or in our college's iTunes U site at 8:00 AM Monday, June 30. (I checked multiple times a day.) That was after over 80 hours.
I filled up a support request form in this web site: https://ssl.apple.com/support/itunes-u/public-site-manager/contact.html around 9:00 AM on Monday, June 30. Credit to Apple PSM Support, I got a reply around noon the same day informing me they did see the iTunes U Course up. I checked and it did become available in both places. So it took 80+ hours from the time it was published to the time it became available in iTunes U store and in our site.
We have over 120 courses and collections. It usually takes an hour or so and at most 24 hours for one course/collection to become available. It never needed more than a day, but this time more than 3 days.
So be patient. And you may fill up the support form also to let Apple iTunes U PSM Support team be aware.
    Best.

  • Locked out of Admin Acct in Public Site Manager

While trying to set up our Course Manager I managed to lock myself out of my Public Site Manager.
The last thing I did was follow some directions in the discussion forum that told me to add my Admin name as a Contributer in the PSM which I did, now when I try to log in as an Admin I get tossed into this loop.
Your Apple ID provides you with access to more than one site. To sign in, select a site name in the list below.
    site.edu
    site.edu
Both of those links bring me back to the main log in page where I get a message that says
    Service temporarily unavailable
This has been going on since Friday. I reached out to our Apple iTunes U rep, and have not heard back from him.
    Any advice from the community?
    Thank you!

My issues was resolved by a Apple iTunes U manager, it was a back end issue.
    I'm back into my site.

  • Beginning Public Site Manager

Where is the link to request the Public Site Manager? Is it supposed to be on the right side when you log in as an admin?
We are not yet listed in the iTunes U "Store" so I submitted a inclusion request last Wednesday (pre-approval status), which is supposed to make the link to Public Site Manager appear, correct?
    Thanks.

Clicking the "Consider this Site for Inclusion..." button in the Edit Site Settings area of your site will notify us of your interest in creating a public site and using iTunes U Public Site Manager. We will enable migration for your site within 72 hours. We understand that you are looking to get access to iTunes U Public Site Manager. Your site will not be published to the iTunes Store. You will ultimately do this yourself in iTunes U Public Site Manager.

  • New public site manager? and what happened to tabs?

I have received the iTunes U activation email and I am about to start building our iTunes U site. When I went on the iTunes U course a few months ago the layout was very different. I understand there is a new layout and that this has something to do with the 'Public site manager' - could someone explain?
My big concern is that I have multiple rss feeds for our public lecture series. We have over 1000 public lecture podcasts, videos, slides, transcripts etc. Since they're basically all the same 'course' I have multiple rss feeds for each media type e.g. audio, video, slide-audio, transcript(pdf) and slides(pdf). The rss feeds are split by year and there's another bunch of feeds for the latest 50 items. I was planning to create a course for each year and the latest 50 items and use the tabs to display the different media types. How can I do this using the new layout? It feels like I have fewer options in the new layout. The course titles are truncated on the homepage so how can I differentiate so many different feeds that are essentially the same 'course'. The only option I can see is to use the cover art to somehow display the year and media type for each feed else I'm just going to get a bunch of icons and titles that look identical.
Any help or advice would be much apprciated.
    Tom

Please ignore these questions - I have now watched the public site manager video webcast and I'm now up to speed. http://deimos3.apple.com/WebObjects/Core.woa/Browse/new.duke.edu.1302914143.0352 7899686.4285944238?i=2057081390
I have to say I am not happy, not happy at all. We've just spent six months building a media CMS and publishing system much of which was built with the 'old' iTunes U layout and information architecture in mind. We're now going to have to do some major revision work before we can launch.
    Specific annoyances -
    1. The tabbed layouts we’re great for bunching together different media types and while I understand the logic behind ditching the tabs the new layout doesn’t really work for me. The collection titles are truncated on the homepage, how are people going know what the collection is let alone distinguish between variants for video, audio and hd video?
    2. pdf documents are now supposed to go in with the relevant podcast or video feed. It is virtually impossible for us to do this using our media CMS. We can publish pdf's as a separate rss feed for each collection and/or we can bunch everything together (audio, video, pdf etc) into a single rss feed but we can't put the pdf's into a the rss feed for audio, and video and hd video.
    3. The ability to upload images for individual collections rather than pulling the image from the rss feed was a really useful option. With the truncated collection titles on the homepage and the lack of tabs, the collection images become even more important because they're the only place where you can display the media type or collection variant (year, term etc) on the homepage. Our media CMS will put an image in an rss feed but if we publish variants of that feed e.g. for a particular year, term or media type it will use the same image for all of them. So now instead of a unique image for each variant of a collection we're will have to use a stock image making it impossible for users to distinguish between variants of a collection.
    3. Is possible for the speaker/author name appear in the individual podcast/video listing? All the listings I've seen that use the new layout omit this information. This assumes that every item in a collection is presented by the same lecturer/speaker . Our public lecture series has a different speaker for each event, some of these are very high profile people and users will be looking for the name of the speaker not necessarily the name of the event.
These things combined really limit our options, in fact I'm scratching my head wondering how we're going to get around some of these problems. Grrrrr. </rant ends>

  • ITunes Podcast Site Manager vs. iTunes U Public Site Manager

The link for help files for the iTunes Podcast Site Manager goes to "Using iTunes U Public Site Manager".  There are significant differences between these two iTunes administration sites.  I need help for iTunes Podcast Site Manager, not iTunes U Public Site Manager.
Specifically I need to set media types for our shows, and since a change to the iTunes Podcast Site Manager interface, I've not figured out how to do it.  The instructions (from "Using iTunes U Public Site Manager") say you do it on the Collections tab.  There is no "Collections" tab at the iTunes Podcast Site Manager.
Anyone know how I set media types in the iTunes Podcast Site Manager?
    thanks - john

I'm afraid I don't know anything about this: it doesn't appear to be relevant to ordinary podcasts. Is this an iTunes-U matter? - perhaps that forum would help.

  • ITunes U Public Site Manager - Apple-Hosted Feed

Is anyone else having problem when trying to add a "Apple-Hosted Feed" under the collections section of the public site manager? Every time I try to add a feed the load icon just keeps spinning and doesn't add a collection. I have also gotten an error saying that I need to logout and try again. I have done that and it still doesn't work. I have tried on another computer also. Still not working. Not sure if this is my end or apple's. I had added a new collection a few days ago and it worked fine.

    Hello,
Our college just went through the migration so i am speaking from this experience which, hopefully, might help you.
    1. Make sure your Apple User ID is the same as in your iTunes U Admin site primary admin's ID.
    2. You need to enter your school's primary admin sign in URL in Safari. The URL for your institution should be something like this: https://deimos.apple.com/WebObjects/Core.woa/SignIn/cwu.edu
    3. A new window will come up on top of iTunes requiring you to sign in using your Apple User ID and password. Enter them and click Sign In.
    4. Now you should see on the upper right hand of the screen in your iTunes admin site, a new button you never saw before. I do not remember the exact name but it is something like Migrating to Public Site Manager. And it is in red color. When you click that button, it will walk you through the process step by step.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes U Public Site Manager - Migrating site

When the Public Site Manager was first introduced I followed the instructions on how to migrate the content over. I was going to work on it and then other projects came up here. Since I have migrated the informtion over I have posted new content on the "old" itunes u site and don't have the slightest clue on what the last piece of content that i have was the last one posted to the PSM. Is there a way to re-migrate the content over to the new PSM or upload the new content on my "old" itunes u site over the the PSM from the last migration date? It is going to be very time consuming to go through my whole site to figure out what is and what is not on the PSM side of iTunes U. I hope someone can help me out with this.
    thanks
    Chris

    Greetings Chris;
When you log in to the old iTunes U environment, all of the collections will have a "Date Modified" tag. Also, in each individual collection you can sort the contents by "Date Released". You can compare the release date with the date that you migrated to the new Site Manager environment to see what content was added after the move. Hope this helps. All the best with your site...

  • ITunes U Public Site Manager transition

    According to the FAQ:
"The first step is to migrate your existing public content into iTunes U Public Site Manager. Institutions who are already included in iTunes U in the iTunes Store currently have migration enabled for their sites. The next time you log in with your Primary Administrator's Apple ID you will see a pop-up window explaining migration and that walks you through the process step by step. If you have not added a Primary Administrator Apple ID to your site you can do so in the Edit Site Settings area of your site."
My problem with the answer above is that while I have a Primary Administrator's Apple ID established and have had for the past 3 years I was never prompted with a pop-up window explaining migration and that walks me through the process step by step. Our university Central Washington University is included in the iTunes Store. Please advise me as to how to migrate our public site before the deadline on April 12, 2011.
    Thanks,
