I've installed J2SE 1.4.2 SDK + NetBeans 3.6. Now what do I do??

Hello,
When I go into NetBeans, I get confused on what to do when they ask to mount a filesystem. And also how do I set up the Java classpath? Like I said, I've just installed it and was wondering if you could give me instructions on how to set things up so I can start coding.
Thanks,
Taylor

When I go into NetBeans, I get confused on what to do when they ask to mount a filesystem. And I don't blame you. This has to be absolutely the worst idiom for a development environment to use. Most developers know what a filesystem is, and it isn't remotely what NetBeans means when they say "filesystem".
Fortunately, the newer NetBeans 4.0 Beta's project system is slightly saner, though they still have much of the unfortunate terminology hangover from the older versions..

  • Installing J2SE 1.4.2 SDK and netbeans 3.6 bundle

I downloaded the bundle and a different computer and burned it to a CD. I brought It home and tried to install it straight from the CD, the computer said that It didnt have enough space on D:\. So I copied the bundle to C: and tried to install. Apart from the fact that the installer doent refresh leaving the image all over the screen. It seems to freeze at 48% on the install log. It installs some files in the netbeans and j2sdk1.4 directories but nowhere near all.
I should mention that I use Windows XP home and when I try to end the task of installing it tells me that I cannot exit the installation just as It would If I had just closed the Window.

Hello, I am having the same problem he is when installing the J2SE 1.4.2 SDK + NetBeans 3.6 where I get the warning:
WARNING: D:\ partition has insufficient space to install the items selected. 102 MB additional space would be needed to install the selected items.
Should I try copying it into C: drive or install them separately without the bundle?
    Thanks,
    Taylor

    no airport card installed!
I'm not using the internet and now what should I do?

 menu/About this Mac/System Information (at the bottom, may be called something else) - run that and see if the Airport card is detected.
    Some things you can try.

  • Output in Bridge CC missing. Attempt to install fix from Bridge Help. WinZip failed. Now what?

The Output function in Bridge CC is missing. I attempted to install the fix that was available via Bridge help. The WinZip download worked fine. I found the recommended file location. The fix did not install. What else can I use? When will an update be available? Thanks.

In CC, I am forced to leave Bridge, go into the application, and Open the file through the system dialog box.
That is not normal behavior (at least on my Mac I still have all installed applications as option under this menu). By default the open with menu under the righty mouse menu should show all installed applications on your system. It sometimes even shows them double in case of attached disks with back up etc.
This has not changed in Bridge CC. If you have those applications installed on your system at the same location as Bridge they should show.
First try a reset of preferences for Bridge with holding down control key while restarting Bridge and choose rest preferences from the provided menu.

  • I did and Archive and Install on MBP with 10.4.11...now what?

I recently performed an "Archive and Install" on my MBP that was having odd random shutdowns (not battery related). Just prior to this I used DiskWarrior 4.0 to fix errors to try to possibly cut down on the shutoffs. All it did was f**k up my machine so bad that as soon as the grey screen and apple logo came up, it was like this grey curtain went down and an "on/off" icon came up saying I had to restart. I was never able to boot my machine off my hard drive again until i did the archive and install. Everything seems fine now.
My question is, I want to get the "old system" folder off my HD since it's taking up a lot of room. how do I know what files are critical and what ones aren't? I copied over my printers folder but all my other data seems to either be where it was before or it got moved over during the archive and install.
Any help on what i HAVE to save before i trash the old system?
    Thanks!

Cool, that was my first guess as to what to do. But now the old lockup issue has returned. I had put my MBP to sleep for an hour or so. When I came back up from sleep mode, I got the black box in the middle of the screen with the "on/off" button and the message that I had to restart or shut down. On restart when I clicked "report", the following came up in the box:

  • Installed Oracle 9i on RH Fedora Core 1.  Now what?

From the instructions on http://www.oracle-base.com/Articles/9i/Oracle9iInstallationOnFedora1.php and http://otn.oracle.com/tech/linux/htdocs/oracleonlinux_faq.html
I managed to install Oracle 9i on Linux, and have set up an ssh server, and use putty to access Oracle 9i from the windows machine at work. Works great (even though the web server don't start automatically allways on reboot).
But can people who actually work as system administrators tell me what I should do next. My education is as a programmer and building engineer, so I have gotten no administration experience. What is the next logical step an real administrator would do now (except the obvious thing as reading the 103567 pages of manuals that comes with Linux and Oracle)? I have done the following:
Set up ssh, downloaded putty for the windows user and work. Also installed vnc server (but have not understood how to make it work yet (from a windows machine)). Made all the passwords minimum 10 characters long with mix upper / lower case, with symbols and numbers mixed in.
Played around with the Fedora firewall. It is not very good though, so I turned it off (still have a firewall in my router... but like to have top security). If I use the firewall wizard, it only gives me very limited options (port 21, 22, 80 and two more), and the creation of a manual firewall file is way beyond me (yet). Like, I know that ssh uses port 22 and web server uses port 80, but what about nightly yum, up2date, messaging client, Wolfenstein ET etc?
And do real Linux administrators use some kind of virus protection like windows machines has?
Or is it some Linux or Oracle admin tool that is widly regarded as being good to have amoung administrators.
Or does my very limited knowledge of administration leave some huge holes in the defences?, that lets hackers simply walk straight into my computer and stuff around.
And with up2date and yum. How do I know that the updates I receive is safe from trojans etc. How do I know they are stable. Is it some place that guaranties "trojan free and stable" updates. (I have turned on something called nightly yum, and my best guess is that it does something, because the up2date icon in the gnome desktop is blue with a tick in it (I have ignored some perl updates since I don't use perl)).
And if (against all odds) my home made hobby type business should be a sucess (and I can leave my slow government job and work on web/database development :) ) , how can I contribute to the Linux community for everything it has done to me (in a way that would be to the best for the Linux community). (After paying Oracle...) (And a bit to RedHat for Fedora).

  • Do I need to install J2EE 1.4 SDK if I already have J2SE 1.5.0_08 SDK?

Currently my system installed J2SE 1.5.0_08 SDK and Java Studio Enterprise 8. My OS is Windows XP Professional Edition.
I want to start to learn J2EE. I read the software requirement in the J2EE tutorial and it asked me to install J2EE 1.4 SDK package which contains System Application Server Platform Edition 8.2 and J2SE SDK.
    Refer to : http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/docs/tutorial/doc/
Its quite confusing me. The question is:
    1) Do i need to install the J2EE 1.4 SDK cause I already installed J2SE SDK?
    2) I have Java Studio Enterprise 8, do i still need to install the System Application Server Platform Edition 8.2? Because i saw inside my Java Studio Enterprise 8 its contain the function to start and stop default application server. Can this be consider as the Java Application Server too?

no i guess, since if u can start the server, why do u need to install j2ee sdk, one more thing, be carefull about the versions
u can check the version by going to the command prompt and type
    java -version
there it shows the version of the jvm u r using, but see that u set the java home to point to the same version even if u have different jdk's installed on the same machine
i am not sure what other thing this j2eesdk gives besides normal things which comes with sun studio, u can always try it if u want to but be careful about the JAVA_HOME settings

  • Java 1.4.2 SDK/Netbeans cobundler doesn't install Webstart?

According to the docs Webstart is standard for 1.4.x, but while the 1.4.2/NetBeans cobundle install creates a javaws subdirectory in j2sdk_nb, it doesn't install it - no Webstart launcher on the desktop and no auto-loading the launcher when a jnlp file download begins. Just as if webstart wasn't there. Any help how to get this working is appreciated or else I may have to install j2sdk/netbeans separately in order to get the webstart install working...

The sdk/netbeans bundle contains j2sdk with no public skd.
(actually it invokes the sdk installer silently, without enabling the install of a public jre.)
To fix this go into add/remove programs, click on the j2sdk1.4.2 and click on change.
then you can click on modify, and install the public jre.

  • My Mac has Snow Leopard 10.5.8. I want to install Mtn. Lion. Apple says I first need to install SL 10.6.8 and that it'll be available at Software Updates. It isn't. Now what?

My Mac has Snow Leopard 10.5.8. I want to install Mtn. Lion. Apple says I first need to install SL 10.6.8 and that it'll be available at Software Updates. It isn't (and I've installed every software update I can pull up.) Now what?

10.5.8 is Leopard. 10.6.x is Snow Leopard.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
If you need to purchase Snow Leopard you can still purchase a copy from Apple's online store's telesales agents.[1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775.] Ask for a Sales Representative.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
If you need to purchase Lion call 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. Ask for a Sales Representative. They will check your Apple ID, and email you a code and instructions.  The cost is $29.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.
Be sure your computer meets the minimum requirements:
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)

  • Error Installing J2SE v1.4.2 on WinMe

    Hello,
While trying to install J2SE v 1.4.2 with NetBeans IDE v 3.5 Cobundle, the installation proceeds until it reaches 6%, then a DOS windows running command.com pops up for a few seconds, dissapears, and the installation progress stops. I checked the intallation log in the destination directory and I get the following message:
    "Installing J2SDK..."
    "ERROR: j2sdk installer not found"
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks

I give up. I decided to download the NetBeans 3.5 installer. I already had the sdk installer from the cobundle, so I installed the sdk and jre, then I erased the NetBeans directory and the uninst directory created by the cobundle installer (I left jvm just in case) and then I installed NetBeans. I think everything works ok.
My advice, forget the cobundle and download separately (or if you already have the cobundle, get the sdk installer from the _uninst directory when the cobundle gets stuck and download the NetBeans installer).

  • No output display (J2SE 1.4.0 SDK on W2k)

I'm running a simple Hello World program on a Windows 2000 Server (with SP3), I've J2SE 1.4.0 SDK installed on my computer. I've no problem compiling the program but I can't see the output when I run this simple program!
Even when I did a simple "java -version" result in a no-output respond from the shell. What went wrong here?

It seems to me that since you can't even get the version information from the JVM when you try:
    java -version
Then the problem must fall into one of two categories. First, there is something wrong with the java executable. You could check your $PATH variable and scan the various directories listed therein until you find the java executable. Presumably it will reside in the same directory as the javac executable that appears to be working. In that case, try : ./java -version
If you still get no output, then the java application is corrupt and you should try re-installing it.
The other category of problem would be that things are working correctly but your standard output is getting redirection somewhere (/dev/null or a file perhaps).
