I've never seen the easter bunny  : (

But that doesn't mean he doesn't exist !
Also, I've never seen a java swing app like the one I want to create. But that doesn't mean its not possible ! (I hope)
They don't offer anything gui related at school, it's all scientific blah. Example: this summer I have Unix and Perl. So I have to learn swing on my own. The app I'm trying to create is for my own personal use. I like to play online dungeon crawlers and really need a way to time many events that occur. Also, I bet that once I graduate, some crazy employer will expect me to know how to create and manage a gui..."No sir, but I can write a really mean Bubble Sort !....wooot! "
What I would like to do is have a window / JFrame(?) that contains one container(?) that contains eight JPanels(?), each of which hold a start JButton(?), reset JButton(?), JProgressBar(?), JLabel(?), and a JTextArea(?).
The text area will display a digital clock face which is animated using a swing timer(?) and updated (input new time )using a popup(?), the label will provide the name of that particular panel which can be changed by employing a popup(?), the progressbar will be sync'ed to the text areas digital clock face, and the whole shabang will be put into motion by the start button and reset to its initial starting phase by the reset button, at which point it can reactivated by pressing start.
I have actually created all the stuff and pieced them together, but they don't do anything yet......
What I have done is write a driver class to create the JFrame and the main container to hold the eight JPanels. I have also written an inner class whose constructor creates the eight panels giving each all the components they need.
Now, my understanding of java classes is that each time my subclass of JPanel calls its constructor , it creates an instance of a JPanel as well as an instance of each component that it adds. So, even though all eight panels look the same, the start button from panel 4 is unique to 4 and the start button for panel 7 is unique and will work only on panel 7. Is that a correct assumption ?
I added ActionListeners that did silly stuff like change the border or the button color etc and all seems to work fine.
So, what I want to know is should I continue trying to build this thing or is it impossible to make this type of structure ??
Also, if it is possible, any suggestions on where to go from here? I just finished downloading the sun tutorial and have a slew of books from the library, but some input from the pros would really nice.... : )
thanks

So, what I want to know is should I continue trying
to build this thing or is it impossible to make this
type of structure ??This is all possible. However, What you should do is create a class to represent one of your timer panels. It should have all the functionality required for a single timer panel. Start button, Reset button, label, etc.
Get this class working completely, and then just add eight separate instances of this class to your main frame.

  • HT201363 I have never seen the rescue email address i don't know what it is!

Okay so my apple id has asked me to verify my security questions, i made the id so long ago that i can't remember the questions! i was going to send it my my rescue email but i dont know what the email is and i have never seen the email address before! Is there a way that i can get a new rescue email address!? Thanks in advance!

Not without correctly answering two of the questions. You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

What should I do in order to accept the end user license agreement even though it never pops up when i install adobe reader?

Make sure Readr is closed. Go to the Applications form, look for the Adobe Reader icon, double click on it, and follow the lead. Restart Reader when finished.

  • Works fine but never seen the green light!

Bought a 5th Gen Time Capsule 2TB. Went through setup using my 2007 Macbook running OS X 10.6.8 and Airport Utility version 5.6.1. I had a message to say my version of Airport Utility couldn't support all the features of the Time Capsule but I carried on and completed setup. Along the way it had asked me to update the firmware so I clicked through and it updated to 7.7.3. The Time Capsule then became available to use and I moved some files onto it which then became availbe to a PC that I had also connected. I also ran a new Time Machine backup which took a few hours but completed fine. I then completed a few subsequent Time Machine backups and they went through very quickly.
The only thing that was bugging me was that the Time Machine was still displaying a solid amber light. It had flashed orange when first powered on but never ever had it turned green despite working absolutely fine. I decided to upgrade my OS to OS X 10.7.5 which in turn let me download Airport Utility 6.3. I can now view the connections in Airport Utility and both the Internet and Time Capsule icons on the screen have a green dot next to them - but still no green light on the Time Capsule! I've tried soft and hard resets and still solid amber. There is nothing on Airport Utility telling me there is anything wrong and the Time Capsule itself continues to perform perfectly. I've searched and searched and can't find any answers. Any ideas???

The indicator light is not working properly. Exchange the defective Time Capsule for another Time Capsule.

  • Bought a mac for my sons bday present of eBay :( it starts up in osx utilities screen, iv never seen the actual desktop(launch pad) I dnt know how to access the systemI know the basics for start up but says to delete files so I can dwnload the software?

AS above states the computer seems to run normally as far as turning it on, tabs & pages are fine. But I can't access the system to delete some files.. Which is what the 'error' keeps saying everytime I tr and download a helpful link/app or software.. The instal disc that seems to be stored on the comp says its mountain lion 10.8 install disk 'read only' & this is the only disc it gives me to select to startup.. I have the full software on USB as its very large.. So .. PLEASE TELL ME finally,
HOW to ... Access comp files to delete required memory for software install?? If this is the best option..
HOW to ... Erase everything on computer & install 10.8 via USB?
And when or what enables me to see and use this computer correctly..ie, launch pad? Etc..
PLease reply back in 'normal terms' as I'm already exceeding my boundaries of imac knowledge

First: no, you cannot use someone else's install DVD unless it is a retail version; all others are machine specific. It will not work and would be illegal.
    Is this what you bought?
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac_cd_2.0_20.html
IF that is correct, then you are not on 10.8 because the highest OS it can go to would be 10.6
So, you'd either need the original install disks (preferred) or buy a retail Snow Leopard (10.6) - that is as high as you can go with that machine. And, your maximum RAM is 2 GB, so you couldn't go higher with the OS because of that either because it would not run well on 2 GB.
If you do get 10.6, then I'd suggest increasing the RAM to the max. of 2 GB.
If this is not the machine you got (maybe the seller just used any old box), then I'd suggest taking it to an Apple store/Genius Bar to have them sort out how to get out of this mess.

  • Please help ID a screen I've never seen before

OK, I'm working along this morning on effects in my Viewer. At some point I looked over at my Canvas and there is a frame from my project with the clip name overlayed at the top and the timecode overlayed on the bottom. Now, this is not the standard Time Code Overlay screen we see in under the Show Overlays pull down. This has the clip name at the top of the frame and the timecode was a single line in a bigger than usual type face. This was not the clip I was working on in the Viewer and the moment I clicked out of Viewer the screen disappeared, replaced by the frame on which my playhead rested. I've never seen the screen before. Have you?

  • I've never seen my 'power' button illuminated!?

i personaly quite enjoy the illuminated keyboards function, it not only looks cool but very useful, however, i've never seen my power button illuminated.
even when i updated firmware, you know, after you installed the update software, it will need to shut down the computer, then you need to hold the power button for few seconds until you see the button flash..... i did every step they said, but never seen the power button flash, instead, i heard a long BEEP, my firmware update has been successful, but i am worried about my keyboard, specially that power key, any idea how can i 'light' it on?
    thanks

Ooo.... I didn't know it was ment to have a light.
I thought when i first saw it it looked like a light,
but mines never turned on. My keyboard lights fine,
    as does the sleep light.
    Now I'm worried.
it seems that not only me have this 'problem'

  • I've never seen flex for sell.. how do I obtain a copy of it and whats the difference between it and flash?

    Hey;
I've heard great stuff about flex but I've never seen it for sale. I've read that it is better for real time programs than flash. I don't know if thats true or not. What does flex offer that flash doesn't and how is the flex language better than the flash language? Or am I totally confused and is flex like an addon to flash??? any guidance would be really appreciated. I'm working on something Object oriented that needs to be in real time so I'm looking for the best program that offers that.

I'm pretty new at all thsi stuff too, and all these terms killed me for my first few weeks in this arena, but I've got my feet under me now.
Flex is an opensource SDK provided by Adobe (previously Macromedia). It used to be something they sold, but they opensourced it, Hoorah!!
Flash is the set of APIs that start with flash.*, and you can fully create flash animations with just the standard flash APIs.
Flex comes with a ton of very useful components, features, and functionalities that are built on top of flash. You should definitely download and get familiar with flex.
The flex api's start with mx.*
Flex also provides the ability to compile MXML documents into flash. MXML documents make it very easy to build Flash, full with animations, customizations, etc. in an HTML-like format. Take a look at the component explorer link below and you'll see the MXML generated for the example components. You can copy and paste that MXML (simple looking stuff eh?) and get a working app that you can expand on and play with as you learn.

My phone started acting up and I noticed my text messages were not being sent.  So I turned my iphone off.  My iphone 4s turned off properly but when I went to put it back the apple icon came on and then an image I have never seen before of a UBS pointiing towards the word itunes in a circle.  And the phone no longer goes beyond this message.  I try to turn it off and on again and same message over and over.  If I hit the any button on the phone nothing happens. Does anyone know what this means or seen this itunes messaging ?  meltdown? Please help.

    Hello Raja,
Thank you so much for your response.  I had these photos backed up on iCloud but, had I not, its good to have an alternate solution as the one you suggested.  Actually, I went to the Apple store today and yes, you are absolutely correct Restoring in iTunes will result in permanent loss of photos unless backed up somewhere such as iCloud or other solution.  Well, what they did was restore the phone in itunes ( I did not have iTunes downloaded to my computer which is why it did not work when I went to do it myself, I needed to go to the iTunes site and go to the download iTunes button because my windows based HP laptop does not come with itunes already downloaded).  This retoration process took a while and I was forced to upgrade to the latest 7.1 iOS software which I was not too happy about -sometimes you like the way things work now :-)  Anyhow, they said this restoration request happens as a result of a software update (which I was NOT in progress of an update or doing an update) or sometimes when you remove the power cable too quickly from the iphone (which I do not recall doing this either but...). Since I had backed up on iCloud all of the photos were downloaded back on my iphone 4s.  Best of all was that my phone was back up and runnning and there was NO CHARGE at the apple store for this service of restoring my phone.  Well, I just wanted to share the results and I appreciate all the responses and support I received.  Thank you kindly.

    Hi there,

FATAL ERROR : The dynamic C library contained in the extension file could not be found.
I've never seen this error before... First time it happened was immediately after DLing Firefox 5 yesterday. I haven't DLed or installed anything else recently.
I see that you already have my system info. Any help is much appreciated!

Just read in another post that there is a known 49 character limit on the file path for QuickTime movies..

I'm an applications developer and also run a part-time videography business. As such, I require more than 3.12GB of RAM. That is the physical limitation of a 32bit system. Pointless to stay on 32bit if you plan on having more than that much RAM.
I'm also not about to pay someone to fix my PC when I can do it myself. I was originally hoping for someone who had experienced the problem before to point me in the right direction so I didn't have to spend so much time trying to figure out what the issue was for myself.
Basically, in the end the problem was caused because right at the point in time when I chose to uninstall, and reinstall; Apple released a new version of iTunes. This version in turn had a requirement of iOS 4.2 to sync with the iPhone. This is a pretty embarrassing for Apple that they would release software reliant on other software before said software was released.
Had I realised I was downloading a newer version at the initial point of installation, this wouldn't have been an issue. I could've easily have rolled back iTunes to the previous version and gotten on with my life.
Another issue is that iTunes is not actually a 64 bit application. It masquerades as one to allow installation on the 64 bit platform.

Some people have seen their aluminum uni-body discoloring due to body oils.  Go figure.
Normally putting anything over the keys/aluminum will hurt heat disspation, but you may need to use keyboard covers.
Or save up $500/year for new keyboards.
Neither is supposed to be a sarcastic answer.  Either one could end up being the solution.
    Good luck with it.

    Greetings,
Hm. I've never seen that in iCal.  In some other Applications the tilde "~" indicates a restore point or a before / after for a file.  My guess is there is a broken cache file in iCal.
    Try:
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in the iCal window.
If that doesn't resolve the issue:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

  • G4 Blackout-Something I've never seen before; could be end of the machine

I have a Powerbook G4 that I use to run ProTools. Not the best machine for the job but it's served the gig well over the last year. The one thing was that it had always run kinda slow even on mundane tasks.
Since last weekend I've been trying to get it to run a little more smoothly.
I cleared out the hard drive, ran Disk Utility, Disk Warrior, checked Console Logs, etc etc etc.
After some research, I did an erase and install. I finished it up this morning. The thing ran like a dream. Restarts in well under a minute, fast operation, fast shutdown: just like a Mac should be.
Then I was back in ProTools, and the thing did something I have never seen a Mac do, ever.
I got a warning screen that ProTools was running out of CPU and that I should increase the Playback Engine settings, and then, before I could click out of the Alert message, the screen went black. The Hard Drives went down, and now the little rectangular white/blue light at the bottom of the monitor is calmly dim-flashing. Like HAL. I can't manually restart the thing. I can't shut it off. It won't respond to anything.
    It doesn't look good.
Has anyone seen this before? Is there any way to bring the thing back?

    Hi there.
I'm not familiar with ProTools per se, but in general if a mac laptop is frozen like that, I pretty well always start with:
    1) Take the external battery out. 2) Pull the plug out from the back of the laptop. (this will force it to shut down) 3) Press the power button for a few seconds (to completely discharge any power). 4) Let it sit there and think about what it's done for around thirty minutes (or sometimes longer). 5) Plug the ac adaptor back in; Press power; Then the "zap the pram" thing (apple key + option key + p + r) as it starts up (make it do the startup "bong" for 3 - 5 times; Then let it complete it's normal startup.
    Then see where you're at...
In general, I find that OS X is happiest when it has at least 5gbs free of hard drive space to play with - Protools may require it to have even more free so it can do it's thing. Are you sure you didn't accidentally remove a file Protools needs during your own "cleanup"? Also, after I run Diskwarrior on an os x drive, I always then run Disk Utility to repair permissions afterward - Diskwarrior is a great fixing tool, but some of it's ideas on what the operating system really needs aren't quite what the mac os x directory doc has ordered.
