I want to step through a .mov file frame-by-frame looking at geometry of an aircraft in the video to establish the rotational speed of the propeller. This should be fairly straightforward by looking at how much the propeller moves between each frame and using the exposure time of each frame.
However the .mov file is from an iPhone 4S and looking at the details, has a variable frame rate. What I need to know is the duration that each frame is displayed for in order to do my analysis. Does anyone know how to find out this information?

Using AppleScript to step through a txt file.

I am new to AppleScript but not programming.
I have a program in AppleScript that currently takes my integers
Ip, user, passwrd and uses the in terminal to gain access to our clients machines and do certain tasks.
I would like to have a txt file filled with the ip addresess so that I can simply step through the file.
I can read in from the txt file but it simply reads the entire thing and crashes out my program.
Can someone please help?

Data acquisition on the basis of time

Hi everyone,
I want to acquire the radial run-out (radial small displacement) of a rotating spindle using a capacitive sensor. To do so I will use the LabView v. 7.1. The PCI-6036E card from National Instruments (NI) will be utilized for data acquisition. The spindle turns at 100 rpm and a rotational incremental encoder is fixed at rear of spindle. This encoder provides an index digital pulse per revolution. This pulse should be used to start and finish the sampling process. I want to sample on the basis of time, by means of sampling rate of the card (Ksamples/s). So, let us suppose that I want to acquire 500 data/rev. The spindle takes 0.6 sec to complete one revolution. Thus, the required sampling rate is Fs = 500 samples/0.6 s = 833 samples/s. So, I should set the VI in LabView so that it samples only 833 data/s. Therefore, I will have to reduce the sampling rate of the analog-input channels in use. For example, let us suppose that the card provides 100 Ks/s when operating in multiple channels. Let us admit that there are 4 analog-input channels in use. So, the scan rate per channel is 25 Ks/s. This is too much for this application. I only need 833 samples/s. So, I should program the VI so that the card provides that required sample rate. As said earlier, I need to start and end the sampling process at the same point. Thus, to do that the index pulse of the encoder will be used. Also, I want to sample during 5 consecutive revolutions of the spindle. So, by means of a loop in VI, I should count the index pulse of encoder until the number of pulses be equal to 5 (= number of revolutions). At this instant, the sampling process should be stopped. Note: 1) the sampled data should be put in a buffer. After the sampling process is finished, this data should be saved in a file of LabView; 2) In fact, the data acquired by the sensor are voltage analog input. Questions:1) Could you make a VI for this problem, please? Note: you can use the DAQ ASSISTANT EXPRESS VI or DAQmx TASK NAME CONTROL method2) What should I do to stop the data acquisition at the end of 5 revolutions using the index pulse of encoder?3) Could you send examples (VIs) similar to my problem above? I want to subtract few mins (say 5 min , 10 min ,15 mins , max to 55 mins) from the current system time,
ex-current time 00:40:00
Subtract 5 mins(means 5 mins backward)
Final time 00:35:00
ex-current time 01:20:00
Subtract 30 mins(means 30 mins backward)
Final time 00:50:00
Pls help me with this with a appropriate logic or FM..

Small frame rate variation between Motion output and reference video

Hello all,
Here's really wonky sort of question for all you Motion/post-production wizzes out there.
I have a 1920x1080 lower thirds project that I am trying to synch up to a HD up-res of the same dimensions. The problem is that the up-res has a frame rate of 23.976 and Motion only allows for a frame rate of 23.98, so the output synchs up ok at the begining of each act (I have the projects split up into acts), but the further down the time line you go, the more it drifts.
I've done the math and, for this particular project, the last title begins to appear at 00:20:09:11 in Motion, but appears in FCP at 00:20:09:07, a drift of 4 frames, 3 short of the 7 frames it is supposed to drift if you multiply the timecode in secconds by 23.976 and 23.98, but none the less, very annoying.
Is there anything that can be done to remedy the situation besides going back after the final Motion output and resynching manually? A three or four frame drift isn't a huge deal, but the largest act I have is 32 minutes, which sounds like a 6 or 7 frame drift. Again not really a huge deal, but I do have several lower thirds that need to be frame accurate (and really, it would be nice if they were all that way).

Yeah. It kind of stinks when you have to swap platforms just to finish a project. AE is also a pain for longform, so I don't want to mislead you.
I would imagine that Motion would be fine as long as you break the Project up in sections. My workflow is usually like this:
Generate a matte or slug in a layer above the footage to fill the area where I need the Super or Composite. This should be fairly short (below 1 minute if possible) I may also have to RAZOR out the footage below the matte to match the matte timing. Select the Matte and footage below it if you wish to see the footage and sound in Motion.
Select File/Send to/ Motion Project
Create a new Motion Project. Name it for the section I'm editing.
Add overlays and animations, filters, etc.
Save project
switch back to FCP and view/render from FCP.
then move on to next section of timeline that needs overlays, repeat the procedure. Just copy paste the layers from one Motion project to another if you want to maintain certain layer continuity.
This way, the Motion projects are managable size and you don't have to re-render the whole FCP project at once. The clips are not long enough for sync issues to appear. And Motion performs much better when the footage is short enough to load into RAM (sub 20seconds for most people).
Also, to get the most out of Motion, you might want to turn off one of your monitors if you use 2 of them. Motion can use far more VRAM from your graphics card if only one monitor is active.

Sure, you can override the warning and press "Continue" instead.
But you said "you have been through the book many times" - have you checked the pages in Aperture's book view or have you checked the preview of the book? I'd look at least at at the "Preview" of the Book - after pressing "Continue" you will see the "Preview" button when the next panel is shown. Look carefully at the preview of the book, if any text is missing.
If you are sure that you like what you see in the preview and no empty textfields show, you can proceed to buy the book.

I received a refurbished MBA today. I have my original files on Time Machine from my first computer with 2 accounts/profiles/users. I want to make migration of those files easy, but change the name of one of the profiles on the MBA.Things I should know?

I have not set up the New-to-me MBA yet.

Thanks so much for that article, however, I think that article is more confusing, since it says that there are 2 names, and then throughout the article refers to at least 4, and I am not 100% sure that was what I am after... So, maybe I am not asking correctly.... let me give more details here..
I had a late 2008 Macbook with 2 "profiles" (work/home) (not sure which 'names' these would be) that was consistently backed up to an external HDD via Time Machine through my wifi network at home. I had upgraded the OS to Mavericks and the "Latest" backup was backed up in Mavericks. This computer was stolen a couple weeks back. I have now purchaed an Apple refurbished macbook air and received it recently and have not even taken it out of the packaging. I assume that it is running Mavericks, but don't know that for sure. Thus, I have not created any new accounts on the new device yet. I want to migrate my backed up files from the external HDD and re-establish 2 'profiles', however, one of the "names" I'd like to change for the new machine. So part of my issue is not knowing what the differences are between, "short names", "display names", "user account names", "profile names", and "home directory names". I know that some of these refer to the same thing, but I am unsure which is which.
What I remember about my old machine was this... When I looked at the Users folder, there were three folders listed within it, "Shared", "work-name", "home-name". I assume these are what's refered to as "home directory names" since they were all lowercase, all one word. When I turned on the computer, the "profiles" that showed up for login had different words than these listed, let's say, "work" and "home".
What I want is for the "work" profile and "work-name" directory to stay the same, and the "home" profile name to stay the same while the "home-name" directory name changes to something else.
I've read many posts now, and haven't found the clear cut example of what I am attempting to do. Some say to create a dummy admin account on the new machine, use Migration Assistance to bring the backed-up files over to the new-to-me MBA, with the two profile names as they existed. In the dummy admin account somehow make changes to the one account I want to change, and then after restart, remove the dummy admin account. I found numerous posts indicating that this may result in permissions problems, which I do not want to have to debug. I'm a decent computer geek, but not a full on superuser.
Other options I've read indicate to plug the external HDD directly into the new machine at first start up and use the Setup Assistant and transfer the info that way. Again however, I then have the issue of one of the names, I'd like changed.
While typing this I found.....

This is the name used to create a user's home directory (also known as the user's Home or Home folder) in the Users folder.
This is from ealier versions of the OS, so I am not even sure if this is Mavericks friendly or not.

I am trying to stop using my I-pod under my husband's I-Tune account. I recently upgraded to Lion. Every time I start up iMovie, it asks if I want to go ahead and generate thumbnails. I say OK, then it alerts me that it cannot file the file IMG_0073.MOV. Then it says "Without this file, the movie cannot play properly." It gives me the option to either cancel or search for the movie.
I don't have the old file it's looking for. I simply want to start a fresh movie with new material but cannot get past this hump. Based on the little research I have done, some people experienced this problem because the files were in aperture at some point, which was the case for me before when I used iMovie. I have since moved forward only with iPhoto but perhaps it's hung on an old file format?
I tried taking another old movie and renamed it IMG_0073.mov to see if I could simply select it, give it what it wants and move on but it won't let me select the file for some reason. I also tried removing iMovie and downloading a fresh version but that didn't work either. My BF tried removing pfiles (I think that's what it's called? but again no luck)
