IBM AIX Platform and IBM JDK
Hi,
We are having out of memory issue on IBM AIX 5.3 version and IBM JDK 1.4.2 J9. All the settings for jvm parameters have been made as per sap recommendations. Now that we need to debug this issue using some java profiler tool. We tried using Sherlok but this does't seem to work on AIX platform. SAP Memory analyzer is a great tool but unfortunately is not supported with IBM JDK.
so what is the best way to troubleshoot out of memory heap issues ? which tools needs to be used for ibm platform and ibm jdk ?
Hi,
unfortunately I do not have a good answer for you. We are working together with IBM to enable the Memory Analyzer read IBM system dumps. However, this will take another 6 months to materialize.
In the meantime, the Diagnostics Guide (http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/diagnosis/index.html) might be helpful. Also look for HeapAnalzer and HeapRoots.
Andreas.

Need Help on Configurations of Data Services on IBM AIX Platform
Hi All,
We are in the process of installing Data Services XI 3.2 on IBM AIX platform.We are having some showstoppers which we are not able to resolve.
It would be of great help to us if anyone can give some inputs.
Lanscape:
Data services server: Server A
OS - AIBM AIX
DB2 Database: Server B
OS - AIBM AIX
Activities Performed till now on DB2 Side:
Multi user development:
1. Created 2 DBu2019s on Server B
· REPO_CR (Central Repository u2013 Which is used for multi-user environment).
· REPO_LR (Local Repository u2013 Which is used for actual development like login and build jobs).
2. Created multiple schemas under REPO_LR(One Schema for each user).
· User1, User2, User3, etcu2026 (These schemas can hold metadata of Data Services XI which can be used for reference).
Each and every schema should have itu2019s their own user name and password
Activities Performed till now on Data Services Side:
1.Installed Dataservices
Activities Yet to be done on Data Services Side:
1.Configure Repository manager (Create central repository REPO_CR of type sucure using repository manager)
2.Configure Job Server(Create a Job server and assign the local repository REPO_LR to the same)
Issues:
While creating the central repository usning the below command:
./repoman -UCRREP -Ppassword -SServer B -NDB2 -QREPO_CR -tcentral -c -a -d
an error ocurred as :"Error while creating the Local Repository"
I think we are getting this error because of some connectivity issue between DB2 server and Data services Server.
Please share all of your valuable thoughts.
Note:Our DB2 admin said we cannot create any ODBC connections on AIX platform
Thanks,
Munithe arguments that you are passing to repoman are not correct, if your server name has space then you should enclose that in quotes, else it will be treated as 2 arguments, you are passing -SServer B it should be -S"Server B"
-SServer B
I don't think you need to pass -Q option for DB2, its required only for Sybase Repo
for DB2 you will have to install the DB2 Client, and create a Node and Catalog the database on that node
if you are able to open DB2 command prompt form the unix and use that database, then try using the following args to create DB2 Repo
-Uusername -Ppassword -NDB2 -SDBName -tcentral -c -a -d
or better use Repository Manager from Windows to create repos -

As soon as I saw this error in your post I froze. I had experienced this same problem earlier this year. Hopefully your already past this (I see your post is from 3/18/11). However just in case you didn't and for anyone else who got this annoying message - here is how I addressed it.
You have to remove all occurances of '-q32' from the Makefile and then re-run it.
You can do this with 'vi Makefile' or use sed (sed is easier)
Using sed:
mv Makefile Makefile.1st ; sed 's/-q32//' Makefile.1st > Makefile
Now you can re-run 'make test'

Things to be aware while doing SAP Upgrade on IBM AIX
Hi,
We are migrating from HP Unix platform to IBM AIX through our new project.
Could you please let me know the risks of doing SAP Upgrade on IBM AIX Platform and things to be aware while doing SAP Upgrade on IBM AIX.
Regards,
FarhanaHi,
You need to refer to respective system copy guide and upgrade guide to know about pre-requisites before doing migration and upgrade on AIX platform.
Practically there are no major issues seen on AIX platform during migration as well as during upgrade.
Hope this helps.

Hello everybody,
Does anybody know where I could find JAI library for IBM AIX platform (if this one is supported)?
Thank you.Try asking on the JAI mailing list - it seems all the JAI action is there.
Rafael - why not a forum ? -
We're running OAS 10.1.3.0.0 on IBM AIX 5.3 and due to some crashing issues OSS recommended to upgrade to PatchSet 3 (so 10.1.3.3.0).
We originally were running OAS with IBM's SR4 of the IBM JDK.
Now after the upgrade to Patchset 3 (on a test machine), the ORACLE_HOME/jdk version seems to be the first release of the v5 jdk from 2005. It's SR nothing ... J2RE 1.5.0 IBM AIX build jclap32dev-20051102 java
It's 2 years old for heavans sake !!!! Not even DST patched.
What am I missing? OAS 10.1.3.3.0 is pretty much THEE most latest version of OAS Oracle has, yet it comes with a 2 year old JDK. Why? This doesn't sound right, why would a company of Oracle stature do this?
Are others experiencing this also? Why doesn't Oracle bundle a more updated JDK with OAS?It's not a symlink.
Oracle has a script (jdkfix.sh) and a procedure for upgrading the jdk inside OH/jdk. We went thru this on all our OAS 10.1.2.0.2 enviro's and 10.1.3.0.0.
One metalink note that talks about this is Doc. 272808.1.
Basically, you install the AIX jdk in the IBM /usr directory and then run jdkfix.sh which essentially copies the jdk over to ORACLE_HOME/jdk.
There don't seem to be any Oracle supplied patches for any OAS that upgrades the jdk. Which is a bit wonky.
Here's the ls -l from our prod OAS 10.1.3.0.0 install:

Installing jdk 1.5 on IBM AIX
Dear All,
Can someone tell me whether it is possible to install the jdk 1.5 on an IBM AIX (Version 5)server? Also it would be of much help if you let know from where I can download the installer. The download section in the sun site contains installers for window, solaris and linux only.
Thanks in advance,
~DebopamHi BIJ100 thanks for the reply anyway... :))
I know its IBM but what(IBM jdk version) and wherefrom(IBM url)? -

Why does javascript fail to work at gmail on IBM AIX 5.3 and 6.1 systesms?
Sorry about asking this question again; but I have not gotten a responce
in over 6 months.
Both firefox 3 and seamonkey 2 seem to have the same problem
on IBM AIX 5.3 and 6.1 systems.
If I try to login to gmail using their standard method (Not HTML)
I can not select any folder. If I select a folder firefox hang.
I just see a message saying "Loading".
I am also experiencing problems when I access my financial
institutions (Online banking!).
I believe the problem is in the javascript implementation.
Not sure about gmail; but I do know that the problem at
my financial institusions sites has to do with executing
a javascript.
"I really need some help. firefox and seamonkey are the
only browsers that have been ported to my systems."
If some one can tell me where to look or what is causing the
problem I can submit a problem report to IBM and have them
fix the problem in their version of firefox. So far IBM has not
been able to figure out what is causing the problem.
I really should upgrade to firefox 3.6.18 and seamonkey 2.0.14; but
I can not find a working version. The only thing that works on my
system is firefox 2.0.0.20 and seamonkey 1.1.18. I keep getting security warning when I uses these browsers.
I really would appreciate some help!Can you start in Firefox safe mode? See [[Safe Mode]]

Just trying to find a newer version of firefox, thunderbird and seamonkey for my
IBM AIX (5.3 and 7.1) systems.
Wondering if anyone in this forum knows of anyone trying to port one of the
latest version to AIX. (I am using firefox 3.6.28, thunderbird 3.1.20 and seamonkey 1.1.18)
Really need to update these products. Unable to fully access a lot of sites.
Would appreciate help locating a never version that runs on my system.Sorry, the situation hasn't changed ([https://support.mozilla.org/questions/935325 935325], [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/959919 959919]). I suggest you direct this question either at IBM support, or at the AIX forum.

Compatibility of IBM AIX with xPD and xRPM?
all experts,
v have R/3 and cproject installed on windows XP
planning for xRPM n xPD
is xPD and xRPM compatible with IBM AIX ..
please help
waitin with points..
regards
NDWe are planning to go for SAP Netweaver CE 7.1.
(Usage Type : Web As for Java, EP Core & EP)
CE 7.1 is a separate product, you can´t install EP (core) on top of it. If you want to run a portal you need to install Netweaver 7.0.
Kindly route me to some SAP Notes/Docs/Links for Prerequisites/Installation notes/Constraints and provide me
the Latest Versions available of OS: AIX,DB :Oracle & SAP etc..
I´d start with the official installation guides:
http://service.sap.com/instguides
--> SAP NetWeaver
--> SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s)
--> Installation
Media List for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3
and
SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 - Installation Guides
What are all the issues I might face at the time of Installation?
Do I need any Oracle Patch?Do I need any OS Level Patch?
Read the installation guides, everything is documented there. It will point you to notes and additional documentation.

Different complining result between SUN JDK 1.4 and IBM JDK 1.3.1
Hi! I simplifed my code as following:
public class TestException2 {
public Object test() {
java.sql.Connection cn = null;
try {
// 1st. close
cn.close();
catch (java.sql.SQLException se) {
// 2nd. close
cn.close();
finally {
return new Object();
}But I get different compiling result betwueen SUN JDK 1.4.2 and IBM JDK 1.3.1 (I have to deploied my app to the websphere 5.0)
In Sun JDK 1.4.2, I only got a warning:
[e:\work\test]javac TestException2.java
TestException2.java:14: warning: finally clause cannot complete normally
^
1 warningIn IBM JDK 1.3.1, I got an error:
TestException2.java:10: unreported exception java.sql.SQLException; must be caught or declared to be
thrown
cn.close();
^
1 errorWhat happend? Who is right?
Thank you!
[ I believe the code should not pass the compilation ... ]Many other people agree with you, including some Sun engineers.
Perhaps Sun just feels an obligation to continue to allow it for legacy reasons.
You might also investigate the compiler that comes with Eclipse.
http://www.eclipse.org/
It has a more flexible approach: for some cases, it lets you decide what is a warning and what is an error. -
IBM CPU virtualization and Java server
Hi everybody,
we are running several systems with double stack ABAP + Java (XI) or java only (EP) on IBM/AIX with pSeries with IBM JDK 1.4.2. Our platform allows to virualize the CPUs. We can, for example, having 4 physical CPUs available, let them appear as 8 CPUs for the applications. Of course the 8 CPUs then are having a speed reduced by 50%.
Now my question:
Which configuration will ensure the best system performance for Java applications like XI? "Many" CPUs with a lower speed or "less" CPUs with a higher speed?
Does anyone have experiences with this issue?
Thank you very much for your feedback!
Kind regards, JoachimJava and J2EE-Engines need a LOT of CPU cycles so I would subscribe to that view.
In our tests, CISC CPUs (Intel x86(_64) and Opteron) have proven to be a LOT faster than RISC CPUs (in our tests Itanium-2) so I would also go for few FAST CPUs.
