Large pages are not used when databases are started from srvctl on ibm aix
Hi,
RAC 11.2.0.3.2 on IBM AIX 6.1 TL07. Mixed databases 10.2.0.5.4 and 11.2.0.3.2
When started with SQLPLUS, the database instance use LARGE PAGES
When started with SRVCTL, the database instance doesn't use LARGE PAGES, even root has the right capabilities
lsuser -a capabilities root
root capabilities=CAP_NUMA_ATTACH,CAP_BYPASS_RAC_VMM,CAP_PROPAGATE
The same behaviour is observed for 10.2.0.5.4 and 11.2.0.3.2 databases.
ORACLE_SGA_PGSZ=16m is exported in /etc/profile.
I found that :
1) When the node is restarted (shutdown -r now), clusterware and all databases (database 10gr2, 11gr2 , asm, ...) start automaticaly WITHOUT using LARGE PAGES. After this, databases restarted with SQLPLUS are USING LARGE PAGES, and databases restarted with SRVCTL NEVER use LARGE PAGES.
2) When the clusterware is restarted manualy (crsctl stop|start crs) all databases (database 10gr2, 11gr2 , asm, ...) start automaticaly and all instances (10gr2 and 11gr2) are USING the LARGE PAGES. After this, database are ALWAYS using LARGE PAGES (started with SQLPLUS or SRVCTL)
So, this problem occurs only after a restart of the host. All is fine after a manual restart of the clusterware.

Thank's for your helpThe problem here is for IBM AIX (I dont find the equivalent for ulimit -l max locked memory, in ulimit for AIX)
Here a portion of the original /etc/ohasd script (ulimit -c and -n are already set for AIX)
start_stack()
# see init.ohasd.sbs for a full rationale

# MEMLOCK limit is for Bug 9136459
ulimit -l unlimited

Macbook Pro wireless is very slow on Campus Network compared to Windows PCs
I noticed that my Macbook Pro is VERY slow using the wireless connection at the Univeristy Campus, I first thought it's the network, but I see my friends with Windows PCs and their connection is blazing fast.
I am using a Macbook Pro 13" with Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 4 GB Memory with OS X Lion installed.
I have tried Safari, Chrome and Firefox and they all are equally slow.
I know from the Campus Tech Support that they are using Cisco Enterprise Routers, which used to have issues crashing Mac computers when they get connected. But since Lion this problem seems to be resolved.
I still think that my Mac should not be that much slower on a wireless network than my friends Windows machines. I did a speedtest on my Mac and I got speeds of below 500kbits/s where my friend achieved 38mbits/s on a Windows 7 Netbook with intel Atom CPU and 2 GB RAM, both tests were done on Firefox. Even when I tether my phone through wireless hotspot I get faster speeds. When did this difference begin? Did you make any recent changes?

While creating RAC database on IBM AIX 5.3 following errors occur.
Hi,
I am creating a Oracle database on following configuration IBM AIX 5.3 box:
OS: IBM AIX 5.3
DB: Fresh installed Oracle 9.2.0.1 upgraded to Oracle 9.2.0.7 (Patch)
While creating a RAC database on the above server i got following errors:
ORA:00603 : ORACLE SERVER SESSION TERMINATED BY FATAL ERROR
ORA-27504 : IPC error 380 OSD context
ORA-27300 : OS system dependent operation : if_not_found failed with status:0
ORA-27301 : OS failure mesage: error 0
ORA-27302 : failure occured at:skgxpbaddr9
Licence high water mark = 0
Can any 1 help me out.Are the above error related to OS or something is wrong with the OS cluster / RAC. I tried creating single instance database on either of the server which are in cluster, no success.
Also 1 more thing i would like to add is that iam able to create single instance database on server which are not in cluster.
Any help regarding the above error is appreciated. This is a bug (for patchsets 9.2.0.6 and higher), see metalink:

Dear All,
In order to migrate one database from server (OS: IBM AIX 5.1 Oracle: 9.2.0.4) to another server (OS: IBM AIX 5.3 Oracle: 9.2.0.6)
I am performing the cold backup and taking the below files backup.
Datafiles
Redologfiles
Archive log file
Backup of control file from trace
I just wanted to know
a) Is there any other files do I need to take backup which may be required to bring the database up on another server?
b) Upper version of OS and oracle can create any issue or do I need to perform any extra activities?
I know after restoration the above files to the destination server, what procedure I would require to follow.
I have doubt with version of OS and oracle.
Request your advice on this.
Regards,I dont think higher version especially 5.1-5.3 will make any difference but oracle 9.2.0.4 will definitely will have an issue. If i am not wrong you need to startup the database with startup MIGRATE option after moving all the files to the new server
May be password file (missed out, but you can always create one)

Apex report performance is very poor with apex_item.checkbox row selector.
Hi,
I'm working on a report that includes some functionality to be able to select multiple records for further processing.
The report is based on a view that contains a couple of hundred thousand records.
When i make a selection from this view in sqlplus , the performance is acceptable but the apex report based on the same view performes very poorly.
I've noticed that when i omit the apex_item.checkbox from my report query, performance is on par with sqlplus. (factor 10 or so quicker).
Explain plan appears to be the same with or without checkbox function in the select.
My query is:
select apex_item.checkbox(1,tan_id) Select ,
brt_id
, tan_id
, message_id
, conversation_id
, action
, to_acn_code
, information
, brt_created
, tan_created
from (SELECT brt.id brt_id, -- view query
MAX (TAN.id) tan_id,
brt.message_id,
brt.conversation_id,
brt.action,
TAN.to_acn_code,
TAN.information,
brt.created brt_created,
TAN.created tan_created
FROM (SELECT brt_id, id, to_acn_code, information, created
FROM xxcjib_transactions
WHERE tan_type = 'DELIVER' AND status = 'FINISHED') TAN,
xxcjib_berichten brt
WHERE brt.id = TAN.brt_id
GROUP BY brt.id,
brt.message_id,
brt.conversation_id,
brt.action,
TAN.to_acn_code,
TAN.information,
brt.created,
TAN.created)
What could be the reason for the poor performance of the apex report?
And is there another way to select multiple report records without the apex_item.checkbox function?
I'm using apex 3.2 on oracle 10g database.
Thanks,
Niels Ingen Housz
Edited by: user11986529 on 19-mrt-2010 4:06Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately changing the pagination doesnt make much of a difference in this case.
Without the checkbox the query takes 2 seconds.
With checkbox it takes well over 30 seconds.
The second report region on this page based on another view seems to perform reasonably well with or without the checkbox.
It has about the same number of records but with a different view query.
There are also a couple of filter items in the where clause of the report queries (same for both reports) based on date and acn_code and both reports have a selectlist item displayed in their regions based on a simple lov. These filter items don't seem to be of influence on the performance.
I have also recreated the report on a seperate page without any other page items or where clause and the same thing occurs.
With the checkbox its very very slow (more like 20 times slower).
Without it , the report performs well.
And another thing, when i run the page with debug on i don't see the actual report query:
0.08: show report
0.08: determine column headings
0.08: activate sort
0.08: parse query as: APEX_CMA_ONT
0.09: print column headings
0.09: rows loop: 30 row(s)
and then the region is displayed.
I am using databaselinks in the views b.t.w

Need Help on Configurations of Data Services on IBM AIX Platform
Hi All,
We are in the process of installing Data Services XI 3.2 on IBM AIX platform. We are having some showstoppers which we are not able to resolve.
It would be of great help to us if anyone can give some inputs.
Lanscape:
Data services server: Server A
OS - AIBM AIX
DB2 Database: Server B
OS - AIBM AIX
Activities Performed till now on DB2 Side:
Multi user development:
1. Created 2 DBu2019s on Server B
· REPO_CR (Central Repository u2013 Which is used for multi-user environment).
· REPO_LR (Local Repository u2013 Which is used for actual development like login and build jobs).
2. Created multiple schemas under REPO_LR(One Schema for each user).
· User1, User2, User3, etcu2026 (These schemas can hold metadata of Data Services XI which can be used for reference).
Each and every schema should have itu2019s their own user name and password
Activities Performed till now on Data Services Side:
1.Installed Dataservices
Activities Yet to be done on Data Services Side:
1.Configure Repository manager (Create central repository REPO_CR of type sucure using repository manager)
2.Configure Job Server(Create a Job server and assign the local repository REPO_LR to the same)
Issues:
While creating the central repository usning the below command:
./repoman -UCRREP -Ppassword -SServer B -NDB2 -QREPO_CR -tcentral -c -a -d
an error ocurred as :"Error while creating the Local Repository"
I think we are getting this error because of some connectivity issue between DB2 server and Data services Server.
Please share all of your valuable thoughts.
Note:Our DB2 admin said we cannot create any ODBC connections on AIX platform
Thanks,
Munithe arguments that you are passing to repoman are not correct, if your server name has space then you should enclose that in quotes, else it will be treated as 2 arguments, you are passing -SServer B it should be -S"Server B"
-SServer B
I don't think you need to pass -Q option for DB2, its required only for Sybase Repo
for DB2 you will have to install the DB2 Client, and create a Node and Catalog the database on that node
if you are able to open DB2 command prompt form the unix and use that database, then try using the following args to create DB2 Repo
-Uusername -Ppassword -NDB2 -SDBName -tcentral -c -a -d
or better use Repository Manager from Windows to create repos -
URGENT: Migrating from SQL to Oracle results in very poor performance!
*** IMPORTANT, NEED YOUR HELP ***
Dear, I have a banking business solution from Windows/SQL Server 2000 to Sun Solaris/ORACLE 10g migrated. In the test environment everything was working fine. On the production system we have very poor DB performance. About 100 times slower than SQL Server 2000!
Environment at Customer Server Side:
Hardware: SUN Fire 4 CPU's, OS: Solaris 5.8, DB Oracle 8 and 10
Data Storage: Em2
DB access thru OCCI [Environment:OBJECT, Connection Pool, Create Connection]
Depending from older applications it's necessary to run ORACLE 8 as well on the same Server. Since we have running the new solution, which is using ORACLE 10, the listener for ORACLE 8 is frequently gone (or by someone killed?). The performance of the whole ORACLE 10 Environment is very poor. As a result of my analyse I figured out that the process to create a connection to the connection pool takes up to 14 seconds. Now I am wondering if it a problem to run different ORACLE versions on the same Server? The Customer has installed/created the new ORACLE 10 DB with the same user account (oracle) as the older version. To run the new solution we have to change the ORACLE environment settings manually. All hints/suggestions to solve this problem are welcome. Thanks in advance.
AntonOn the production system we have very poor DB performanceHave you identified the cause of the poor performance is not the queries and their plans being generated by the database?
Do you know if some of the queries appear to take more time than what it used to be on old system? Did you analyze such queries to see what might be the problem?
Are you running RBO or CBO?
if stats are generated, how are they generated and how often?
Did you see what autotrace and tkprof has to tell you about problem queries (if in fact such queries have been identified)?

Hi.
I need to move a database from HP 11.00 machine to IBM AIX 5.3 machine. the database version is 8.1.7.3. and is around 400gb. Will the normal database cloning work? or what the best method to do it.
pls help me in doing this activity.
Thanks in advance
VijayAt your version, the following can be performed.
1)Create an empty shell in AIX 5.3 that of your Source Database.
2)Export the Source database.
3)Import into the Target Database.
Export/import can be through creating the dumpfiles at the file system level and it has to be transferred to the Target Server to perform Import. You can Also use the Unix Pipe options to perform the export/import simultaneously without creating the Export dump files. -

and when i run bi_checkconfig.sh to check weither the olap can be used, I got these errors:

some one can help me ?Why don't you (or your system administrator) simply do,what the message recommands?
The root user should execute '/usr/sbin/slibclean' You cannot remove the message itself. Run 'slibclean' and answer 'Y'. Unfortunately on the AIX platform it interrupts a silent installation.

What's the deal with product availability on IBM/AIX?
Can some rep from Oracle explain why IBM/AIX is always last in line for new versions of Oracle software (database/app server) to become available?
We're now in a situation where iAS9.0.4.0.0 is at stage projected on IBM/AIX for quite a while now and we need it badly. What's the holdup?<bump/>
