IBM J2SE 1.3.0 JVM

Anyone using the IBM J2SE 1.3.0 JVM with weblogic?
According to some reports (Volano Report) It is one of the fastest java
implementations.

Hi,
We're in the performance tuning phase of our project and we notice that
the IBM jre's are about 130% faster than the Sun jre's. Based on the
VolanoMark [a server-side jvm benchmark].
We also notice that BEA doesn't "certify" against this jre. Does anyone
know why? or what the ramifications are of using this jre?

    Anyone knows:
I have a j2ee project based on IBM WebSphere v5.1 + Oracle DB 10g(XMLDB included). There's a big trouble bother me.
My project used Oracle xml implemention, such as DOM parser included in xmlparserv2.jar.and when i deploy my project to WAS(WebSphere Application Server),it throws errors and can not startup normally.it's sounds that WAS cann't determine which xml implemention it should choose:

    Best Regard.
    Musicool

I had this issue too. I removed all non-Oracle classes (javax, org.w3c) from the jar file and things then worked as expected. Basically, these javax and w3c files were duplicating versions already existing in the WPS classpath (I presume) and were causing the failure.
    Hope this helps.

  • Help: Why JVM Crashes?

I run a complex server app on JDK1.3.0 IBM AIX4.3.3. JVM crashes (process terminates) occasionally after a random period of time e.g. several days. Native code caused SIGILL (illegal instruction) and process was terminated by OS as shown in nuhop.out. (I run it with nohup.)
BTW, JVM has enough free memory during its running.
Would anyone tell me possible reasons for JVM crash? Can I say that if JVM crashes, no matter what app it runs, it is a bug of JVM? Need help on locating problem.
    Thanks.

Can I say that if JVM crashes, no matter what app it
runs, it is a bug of JVM?No, you cannot. I have seen numerous instances where a JVM brought down the whole process because it caught a signal in some native code outside of the JVM - either in the OS libraries themselves or somewhere else in the programmer's code. In this case since you are getting a SIGILL, the probability of a bug in the OS or the JVM itself seems a bit higher to me than if you just saw, say, SIGSEGV.
Would anyone tell me possible reasons for JVM crash?Well you probably want to make sure that it is not due to any native code of yours first (or from a 3rd party, like a JDBC driver vendor, for example), if you have any... I find myself answering these kinds of posts often, partially because I have seen this kind of thing numerous times and think that I might be able to help, though it seems some of these questions are asked a little too often...
    Anyway, see this:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=37&thread=235942
    Good luck.

  • JDK 1.3 better than 1.1? Help me prove it!!!

i need any case studies done where a company upgraded their software from 1.1 to 1.3 and why it was better ? Can anyone help ?

What kind of application(s) do you have? For the server side, we have seen remarkable improvements in performance and SMP scalability (add more CPU's get more performance) in 1.3.1 than in 1.1.7. We replaced 10 Sun 4500's with 10 CPU's each running NetDynamics on a Java 1.1.7 platform with WebLogic 3 Sun 4500's with 10 CPU's each running WebLogic Server 6.0 on a Java 1.3.1 platform. We even saw a significant improvement in performance between 1.3.0 and 1.3.1 (about 10%).
Of course more than one variable changed between NetD w/ 1.1.7 and WLS w/1.3.1, but our other benchmarks have show 1.3.1 to substantially outperform 1.1.7 (3X or more for server-like benchmarks).
For an example of Java 1.3 versus Java 1.4 performance boost see http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/performance.guide.html.
If you are on Windows or IBM platforms, you should also look at the IBM Java 1.3.x JVM's as they tend to out-perform Sun's JVM's in many circumstances.
Why would you stay on Java 1.1? Is there come concern or need that prevents you from upgrading? Are you concerned about applet compatibility in internet applications?

  • Problem with JNI in a Solaris shared library

    Hi,
    I have a problem.
I have used JNI in my .dll on Windows & .so on Solaris . I have also used the same JNI code in a .exe on Windows & an executable on Solaris. 3 out of the above 4 combinations work & 1 doesen't. When I use JNI from a .so on Solaris 8(with/without the J2SE recommended patch), the JVM seems to have some exception & dumps core when I invoke CreateJavaVM(). This is an update to the original message -
I have tried both HotSpot & Server JVMs but still see the
    same behavior. I'm using 1.4 .
I'd like to provide more information to those who can help
me. I have a feeling there might be something wrong in my
CC options. Thus you will find below what my CC statement
looks like for one of the files in my project & for the
linking of the final shared library. I also have
provided the output of ldd on my shared library libaicd.so
& for comparison the output of ldd on libjvm.so as that
might provide some usefull information just incase
something looks suspecious & might ring a bell.

  • Jdbc oci interface and xdb API for oracle 9.2.0.7

I have a Java application that uses the jdbc oci interface to connect to an Oracle database and insert some XML into an XMLType column using the XDB APIs provided in xdb.jar.
OS : IBM AIX version 5.1
JVM : IBM 32-bit SDK pour AIX, Java 2 Technology Edition, version 1.4.2
    libraries used :
    ojdbc14.jar
    nls_charset12.jar
    xdb.jar
    xmlparserv2.jar
    libocijdbc9.so
with Oracle 9.2.0.1 the application worked correctly. However we have just upgraded from Oracle 9.2.0.1 to Oracle 9.2.0.7 and now the JVM crashes when the XMLType.createXML(java.sql.Connection, java.lang.String) API is called. The error message is :
JVMDG217: Dump Handler is Processing Signal 11 - Please Wait.
JVMDG303: JVM Requesting Java core file
JVMDG304: Java core file written to /<snip>/javacore2375690.1152115549.txt
JVMDG215: Dump Handler has Processed Exception Signal 11.
    start.shl: 2375690 Segmentation fault(coredump)
In the javacore file we find the lines :
1XHSIGRECV SIGSEGV received at 0xdd7b7d6c in /<snip>/libocijdbc9.so. Processing terminated.

Does anyone have any ideas? Changing the version from 9.2.0.7 is not an option.
    Thanks,
    Dave Gosling.

The 9.2.0.5 patchset, and all patchsets, are available for download from Metalink.
There should be a rather large variety of JDBC drivers that will connect to an 9.2.0.5 database if that's what you're asking about.

  • Is supported OC4J 9.0.2 on AIX?

Is supported OC4J 9.0.2 on AIX with jdk1.3.0?

The two questions you are asking are different. The stanalone version of OC4J is pure Java and is available to be run on a J2SE 1.3.1 JVM. Oracle9i Application Server Release 2 is a product which integrates a lot of native applications as well as Java so is platform dependant. It should be available soon on AIX.

  • Getting recv buffer size error even after tuning

    I am on AIX 5.3, IBM J9 VM (build 2.3, J2RE 1.5.0 IBM J9 2.3...), Coherence 3.1.1/341
I've set the following parameters as root:
    no -o sb_max=4194304
    no -o udp_recvspace=4194304
    no -o udp_sendspace=65536
I still get the following error:
UnicastUdpSocket failed to set receive buffer size to 1428 packets (2096304 bytes); actual size is 44 packets (65536 bytes)....
The following commands/responses confirm that the settings are in place:
    $ no -o sb_max
    sb_max = 4194304
    $ no -o udp_recvspace
    udp_recvspace = 4194304
    $ no -o udp_sendspace
    udp_sendspace = 65536
Why am I still getting the error? Do I need to bounce the machine or is there a different tunable I need to touch?
    Thanks
    Ghanshyam

Can you try running the attached utility, and send us the output. It will simply try to allocate a variety of socket buffer sizes and report which succeed and which fail. Based on the Coherence log message I expect this program will also fail to allocate a buffer larger then 65536, but it will allow you verify the issue externally from Coherence.
There was an issue with IBM's 1.4 AIX JVM which would not allow allocation of buffers larger then 1MB. This program should allow you to identify if 1.5 has a similar issue. If so you may wish to contact IBM support regarding obtaining a patch.
    thanks,

  • Problem starting websphere server 6.0 with Eclipse.

    Hi Frndz,
I'm trying to start WAS6 server from Eclipse IDE view but I get the exception DescriptorParseException with the XML file com/ibm/ws/management/descriptor/xml/JVM.xml. On the other hand, I can start without any problem my WAS6 server outside Eclipse.
I would really appreciate any help on this.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Including non-existent permissions in a policy file

I noticed that if I, in a policy file, specify a permission which implementation is not available to the VM, no error occurs and it seems like the bogus permission is simply ignored.
    I use -Djava.security.manager and -Djava.security.policy=my.policy.
For example, if I specify a permission that was added in J2SE 5.0 in a policy file used with a J2SE 1.4.2 JVM (from Sun), I get no errors. This is good, since it means that I can use the same policy file for all JVM versions that I have to support. However, I was not able to find anything about this in the documentation.
Can I trust all compliant JVMs to work like this, or is this specific to Sun's implementations? Is this mentioned in the documentation/spec somewhere?
    Thanks...

if you want to give read permissions for all the files in conf:
    permission java.io.FilePermission "\\dvp\\conf\\-","read";
    Hope this help!

The recently released Java 7 Update 11 has been blocked by Apple through its XProtect anti-malware feature in OS X.
Oracle issued the latest update to Java earlier this month to fix a serious zero-day security flaw. The threat was so serious that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security had recommended that all Java 7 users disable or uninstall the software until a patch was issued.
Apple took action on its own and quietly disabled the plugin through its OS X anti-malware system. And as noted by MacGeneration on Thursday, Apple has again updated its OS X XProtect list, this time to block Java 7 Update 11.
Because Oracle has yet to issue a newer version of Java that addresses any outstanding issues, Mac users are prevented from running Java on their system.
Over the last few years, Apple has moved to gradually remove Java from OS X. The Mac maker dropped the Java runtime from the default installation for OS X 10.7 Lion when the operating system update launched in 2010. Java vulnerabilities have been a common exploit used by malicious hackers looking to exploit the OS X platform.
Most notably, the "Flashback" trojan that spread last year was said to have infected as many as 600,000 Macs worldwide at its peak. Apple addressed the issue by releasing a removal tool specifically tailored for the malware, and also disabled the Java runtime in its Safari web browser starting with version 5.1.7.
Javascript should not be disabled (it has nothing to do with Java).

  • Running JMF on CDC (CVM) ?

Hello everybody.. I have been trying with much frustration to run a JMF application on J2ME CDC using the CVM. The problem lies when I try to load a JMF plugin, for example, a G723 Encoder, to convert a WAV file to a G723 file. The main error that I suspect is :

reason : java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: JMFSecurityManager: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Unable to get link privilege to jmutil
javax.media.ResourceUnavailableException: can not load G723 Encoder
I am running on RedHat Linux 7.3. Have tried setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH to point to where the libjmutil.so and other JMF libraries are located, but still does not solve my problem. Running the same application on J2SE 1.4's JVM works. Tried to LD_PRELOAD the jmutil library, but gives me a bunch of errors when I try to launch the application.
Would really really appreciate anybody who could give some advice on this problem that I am facing.
Thank you very much in advance!!

First you may try to download JMF Cross-Platform. It's written in Java without native libraries.
If there are native encoders/decoders for Linux you may try to use them.
The second workaround is to use -Djava.library.path instead of setting environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

  • WLS on Unix recommendation

We at my company are in the process of possibly using WLS for a intranet
    application.
We are leaning towards one of three camps : Solaris, Linux. Using Unix is a
    must, we
need remote administration of the box ( telnet ) and NT's uptime isn't the
    greatest in the world :).
I have been perusing the weblogic newsgroups for a couple weeks now and have
    seen alot
of posts in regards to incompatibilities/problems with Solaris. Is this
still the case? Java2 is also a must.
Which of the below sounds good, or if anyone has any other thoughts I would
    love to hear them.
Remember, stability then performance is the key.
    Sparc Solaris 2.6 or 2.7 using Sun's JDK 1.2.1_04
    or
Intel Redhat Linux 6.2 using IBM JDK 1.3rc
    or
Intel Redhat Linux 6.2 using Sun's JDK 1.2.2
Now am I wrong in thinking NT/2000 is not a good option? Should I consider
    it?
    Is it stable and fast?

Sun's 1.2 for Linux uses green threads. It's allright for development,
but I'm not sure that I would use it in production.

  • Debugger disconnected from local process.

When I debug my source code I set a breakpoint and from there use step into or step over two to three times and then debugging stops with the message "Debugger disconnected from local process." I set the breakpoint at different positions and always had the same effect. When I run the code that part I try to debug does work.
What can I do to debug that part (want to watch certain variables in that part)? I already tried to set more breakpoints and used resume to step to the next breakpoint, but again debugging stops.
Thank you very much for your help,
    C.D.

    Hi Carola,
The message "Debugger disconnected from local process." is written to the log window when the debuggee process terminates.
In your case, it sounds like the debuggee process is terminating unexpectedly early (perhaps because the JVM died). To figure out why that is happening, I'll need to know some more information:
What kind of program are you debugging? Is it a Java Application with a main method? Or, is it a Servlet or JSP? Or, is it an EJB? Or, an Applet?
If your program is small, would it be possible for you to send it to me so that I can reproduce the problem myself?
What J2SE version and what JVM are you using? The J2SE is specified in the Project Settings dialog on the Libraries panel. The JVM is specified in the Project Settings dialog on the Runner panel.
If the problem you are seeing turns out to be a bug in the JVM, you can probably work around it by switching to a different JVM. Again, this is specified in Project Settings dialog, on the Runner panel. If you are currently using OJVM, you could try switching to HotSpot (also called Client). However, you will notice that debugging is much faster with OJVM than with other JVMs.
Also, what platform are you running on? Windows NT? Windows 2000? Windows XP? Linux (what kind of Linux and what version)? Solaris (what version)?

  • Getting Jar Files

    Hi,
This is a very basic question. I would like to have J2SE 1.3.1 jar file so that I can include it into my classpath to use some classes such as java.util.Date version of this jar file. I would like to include in class path rather than installing J2SE 1.3.1 JVM on my computer.
    How can I do this?
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Rohit

You basically can't. There are native code programs that are needed too - that is what the JVM really is. It is a translation from Java code to native code. The jar file is only part of the JVM.
