IBM QMF 9.1 - How to handle hard coded .ini and .xml files

Hi All,
I've been trying to sequence ibm QMF for workstation. The app has 2 gotchas in that there seems to be 2 config files that it uses to execute an eclipse environment.
C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\DB2 Query Management Facility\QMF for Workstation\configuration\config.ini
has a path statement which cannot be resolved
[email protected]/Application Data/IBM/QMF for Workstation/settings
C:\Users\%USERID%\AppData\Roaming\IBM\QMF for Workstation\repositories.xml
has several path statements looking back at the program files directory (note I sequenced on an x86 machine, it doesn't work on x86 either)

I can make the app work by copying in the directories to the PC and then editing the config files and changing the paths to something inside the app-v package.
What methods do folks use to get around this???

With hard-coded paths like that, you need to sequence on the same 'bitness' as the client.
If the app is trying to read or write to that location under program files, then it should be redirected to the virtualised paths.
VFS issues can happen if:
The exe queries Windows to ask where it is running from, gets the virtual location, and finds an unexptected mismatch to the location expected in the config file.
The application uses WMI (or some other external service) to query if the folder exists, which then cannot find the folder.
You sequenced to the PVAD, as a result the folder is hidden in the virtual file system, and the app cannot see the install folder.
If you sequenced to the PVAD, I would try again setting a dummy PVAD location - or just sequence it with SP3.
If that does not help, does just creating those empty directories in the real file system do the trick?
If none of the above help, then creating a symbolic link under program files pointing to the virtual location may work.

Use Standard text ade those text elements. Then use those in SAP script using different languages.

yes you can write sub-routines in scripts , search SDN and you will get answer for the same

How can i re-link .mpkg and .pkg files to hidden Installer?

I am near the end of the process of setting up my new Mac Pro (early 2009) eight core. Quite the wonderful difference from my "Mirror Drive Door" dual 1.25 GHz machine!
The Mac Pro came with Mac OS X 10.6.2 installed. I updated this to 10.6.6 via Software Update along with a slew of other updates presented there. I downloaded and installed a bunch of software. Finally, I was ready to install iLife 11 from the "CPU Drop-in" DVD that was on top of the box when the computer was originally unpacked.
Unfortunately, it wouldn't even begin the install. The "iLife.mpkg" file, when double-clicked, returned the error message "no application associated with this document". Hours of investigation reveals that NO .mpkg or .pkg file will open; doing a "get info" on the files reveals that those files have lost their link to the Installer app.
AND since the only installer I can find is hidden in /usr/sbin, there is no way I can re-link .mpkg and .pkg files to it via "get info".
I downloaded Pacifist and used it to open the "Mac OS X 10.6.6 Combo" package and re-installed the Combo updater. Much to my surprise, that didn't fix the linking issue.
I've logged in as root, but still can't re-link the package files to the Installer as /usr/ is still hidden. Is there a way I can temporarily "un-hide" the /usr directory so that "get info; open with" can see it?
I've started from the Mac OS X installer DVD and repaired permissions on the hard disk and "repaired" the hard disk. No luck there either.
I did a clean install of Mac OS X 10.6.2 to a different hard drive and applied the combo updater and the packages worked as expected there. So some software I installed or by running a slew of updaters via Software Update broke the link between packages and the Installer.
I'm sure that re-linking to packages to the hidden installer app can be done via Terminal and possible other ways, but I don't know how to do it.
Short of doing a complete Mac OS X 10.6 re-installation and update and having to re-do several days of other software installations and data transfers, I'm hoping someone will offer some solutions or tips on how to solve my problem.

Thanks for the reply. I know I had previously checked for the missing installer in /System/Library/CoreServices/ and I rechecked and it's still not there. But your tip spurred me to check the test 10.6.6 installation on the other hard disk and yes! It's there!
A quick copy from the second hard disk to my current hard disk and doing the "get info" trick and everything now works wonderfully. Only one day lost to trying to figure this out. Now that the problem is fixed, quite the relief.

Tips on avoiding hard coded paths and make a java app platform independent

HI all,
I would like to gather some tips on how to avoid hard coded file paths, which are plenty in the application I work on and which I inherited from previous programmers.
Also, when deploying to the production server, my app goes from a Windows platform to a Linux machine.
I am curious to know what tricks and tools other programmers find useful in similar contexts.
I am sure many of us would benefit from the discussion.

Actually, Java does this for you; you can use unix-style paths and they will still work, even on Windoze. To wit:

How can I generate IDOC(WPUUMS) from XML file in POSDM or in SAP Retail

I have following scenario,
I have Retail Store who send me their daily sales report through Wincor Nixdorf Point of sale. There i am using standard POSLOG2 to SEEBURGER(its a middleware which act as Converter) xml format and then i post that data first in POSDM and then with BAPI i transfer or book that data to SAP Retail.
Above is the one scenario which is working.
This is the Second scenario.......

Hi,
1. To get the required XML Schema, use transaction code WE60 to go to the IDoc documentation -> enter the IDoc type you want to use (WPUUMS01). Flag control and data record. Then display the XSD by choosing Documentation -> XML Schema from the menue bar. Now you can donwload the XSD for usage in Seeburger.
2. Create your mapping from the POS format into the IDoc XML format in Seeburger.
3. Create an XML File Port in ERP or POS DM using transaction code WE21.
3. To inbound the XML file from Seeburger into POS DM or SAP Retail Seeburger should trigger the function module EDI_DATA_INCOMING. Parameters for this FM are the Pathname to the XML file and the Portname you just created. Based on the port name the FM can derive the port type xml and the data will be handled as XML data.

What my program do is to get the encoding of XML files and convert them to UTF-8 encoding files, while I need this "encoding" information of the original XML document thus I can convert...
After reading specifications and JDOM docs, the truth turns to be disappointed, no function is provided to get this information in JDOM level 2(the current released one), while it's promissed that this function will be provided in JDOM level API....

Hi,
You can pass the image url as a href attribute=> file:///Users/me/Documents/my_pic.jpg directly within your xml. It just needs that you pass a local, static and valid url.
If you want to add image later once the xml is flowed and so target specific nodes and inject images, it's a bit more complex. If the node is not part of the layout, you may try to reach the XMLElement objet and such an attribute, then layout the element.

If already placed, then you have to get the associated pageItem, then place your file into it.

How to write the nodevalue back to xml file?

Hi, Everybody:
These are two packages I used. javax.xml.parsers.*,org.w3c.dom.*
Now I use "setNodeValue("abc") to set the node value to "abc". But it is not really saved back into XML file. It only change the node value in memory.
How to write the changes back to XML file? Thank you very much for your help.

How to package/inlcude C++ .exe and .dll files in a Java Web Start App?

I have a Java Web Start application that runs fine if the application is only 1 .jar file.
But I have a need to also run C++ .exe and .dll file from my Java application.
I wonder if someone could please tell me how to package/include C++ .exe and
.dll files in my Java web start application?

You need to place the EXE and DLLs inside the jar.
Java cannot execute them from the jar. They have to be extracted (see Class.getResourceAsStream) from the jar and copyied into the target machine file system, perahps to the temp directory. Now you can execute them using Runtime.exec() or ProcessBuilder.start().
