Ibooks author widget icon

Hi, I've got a widget added to my ibook and when prevewing on ipad retina, as loading, the icon appears high resolution, once the preview has fully loaded the icon reverts to being a very low quality version. I am then able to move the blurry icon by dragging it and a high res one appears underneath - very odd. Can anyone help? Tried adding an addtional icon to the widget folder with @2x after its name in addition to the initial file but this hasnt helped.

I am also highly interested in a solution. I tried the same as the OP, but also without success. If someone knows more about this, an answer would be great. Maybe it's just a bug.

  • Can I rotate iBooks Author widgets?

    Hello,
I wonder it is possible that I can rotate iBooks Author widgets? For an example, can I rotate Gallery widget?
    Thanks,

I don't think so, sorry. They're locked in place to support default navigation.
What reason(s) do you have for wanting to rotate?

  • A very bad error in ibooks author widget...

    hello,
i have delivered my ibooks on ibooks store: Clil 2.0 For Maths. I added multiple choice questions using the Widget inspector, but i noted that the sentence "domanda 1 di 6" was written in italian. So i asked at this support in order to solve the problem and you said to me that if i changed the language of my OS into english it would certainly be solved. So i did and everything went well.
Now after delivering to the ibooks store i tried to read it on my iPad with an italian version of IOS and the sentence of multiple choice question is in italian. Athe the end of the excercise it says how many question are worng or right in ITALIAN!!!
This is a very big proble for me since it is a CLIL book so everything MUST be written in English.
Can you solve this awful mistake?
    thank you
    Alessandro Biondi

    I see your confusion.
    > So i asked at this support in order to solve the problem
Support told you, not anyone here. Support isn't here...these forums are user to user.
If you have something to say to Support, you should contact them directly, same as you did originally.
    Good luck in any case.

  • Widgets using ibook author - centering images when resizing

When I drag and drop png files into my ibook author widgets and attempt to zoom out to the maximum, the top portion of the image gets cut off. What am I doing wrong?

You need to click on the edit mask button until a little grab hand icon appears( may have to click a few times)
with this hand you can click on the image and drag it around with in the frame (croping it however you want)
ie drag it down so top of image shows
Images should be at the resoultion the are going to display at.
they should be scaled/croped in photoshop etc befor bringing into IBA.

  • Will iBooks author support webgl in widgets?

It would be great to include interactive 3D games in iBooks Author widgets. But Javascript is going to need some help to accomplish this. Does anyone know if webgl will be supported or if there some other way of rendering 3D graphics in the iBooks widgets.

Don't be ridiculous Dan-o... Why can't we get a 3D character to describe the book for children? a character that uses Javascript and WebGL shading to draw..?
    iAds does WebGL...
Safari 5.1 now integrates a WebGL Mode to test...

  • IBooks iTunes Widget

    Hey all!
Just wondering if there's a widget that opens up the itunes store.
If there are ones for free online or if they need to be built in xcode etc.
Any thoughts, suggestions, and comments are much appreciated.
    Thanks!

iAd Producer 4.0 can do this for you. Create a new iBooks Author Widget, start with the HTML template, and paste the following between the div:
    <iframe src="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/xcode/id497799835?mt=12" width="100%" height="100%"></iframe>
…substituting the iTunes Store URL you want. For more information, see iAd Producer's help:

  • IBooks Author: How do you get the inset margins applied to the caption text of gallery widgets to preview correctly?

Currently the inset margins I set for caption text in the gallery widget reset to zero when previewed on different iPads. These galleries have multiple images and the captions are set to "individual caption per image" on the widget interaction panel. BUT the inset margins preview correctly if the gallery caption is set to "same caption for all images" in the gallery widget interaction panel. How does one fix this in iBooks Author? Would appreciate any advice or work arounds or suggestions.
    Thanks!

The arrows don't show up on the iPad, they are only to aid navigation within iBA. You can use boxes in the background to frame your galleries (as the background is off). I believe it's also possible to change the colour of the dots beneath the gallery too, although I forget how to do that right now.
About Apple's rigid UX – I agree that it can be frustrating. Apple intended iBA to be used by everyone, and the sort of design options and customisability we might want may confuse the less experienced user. Apple also wanted the UI for every book to be the same – from the point of view of the new user, once you've used one iBA ebook (or iBook, I'm not sure what Apple want us to call it), you can use them all. Otherwise end users would to get used to a slightly different UI on each book, which kind of works against the idea that ideally UI should be intuitive enough to be invisible. I can see the point in that. I have created a 'How to use' section in every iBA file I've made. It get's old quickly.
Oh, and (you probably know this, but…) you can choose your own custom icon for audio. It's limited, as it's only a placeholder image that allows you to play an audio file, there's no ability to pause the audio or stop it once you choose the view as thumbnail choice. Something I'd like to see changed.
Here's a link to Apple feedback page for iBA. Feel free to hammer it with your suggestions.

  • IBooks Author HTML5 Widget won't open in full screen

    Hi,
I am building a ebook using iBooks Author, the ebook includes HTML5 widgets on several of the pages. Upon testing the book on desktop the HTML5 widgets work as they should (opening in full screen). However, when I test this on the latest iPad air, the widgets don't open in full screen. Instead they open as tiny thumbnails inside the space of the widgets icon. Has anyone else had this problem, and found a solution for it?
(P.S I have tested the ebook on older versions of the iPad as well, and on them the widgets open as they're supposed to - in full screen - so I am wondering if this is potentially a bug on the newer iPads?)

Mountain Lion is set up to close windows when you quit a program instead of saving them. To change this, put Safari in full-screen mode, move the cursor to the top, open Safari menu while holding Option key and close Safari from the menu.
If you want to do it automatically with all programmes, open System Preferences > General, and deactivate "Close windows when quitting an application"

  • How do I add a widget to give a review or star rating for a book at the end of a book in iBooks Author?

How do I add a widget to give a review or star rating for a book at the end of a book in iBooks Author? You know, how you buy books on iBooks and when you're finished reading it, there's a place where you can give a rating or review right there on the very last page?

Just supply a link that says 'Review This Book' - use http://itunes.apple.com/linkmaker/ to generate one.

  • How do you add visual video controls to widget video in ibooks author?

How do you add video controls to video using ibooks author?

I have the same question as VideoImage. I would like the controls to appear in some of my videos so that the reader can speed them up or slow them down. This would save me having to run them through iMovie at 4X say and saving them that way. As far as I can see, the video fast forward, fast reverse, go to end, go to beginning controls only appear in the Widget inspector. What is their purpose then?

  • Using Google GWT to create (Dashcode) widgets for iBook Author  I would like to embed interactive widgets in iBooks using iBookAuthor. The widgets in question started life in Java but GWT has allowed them to be converted to javascript and to run on web pa

I would like to embed interactive widgets in iBooks using iBookAuthor. The widgets in question started life in Java but GWT has allowed them to be converted to javascript and to run on web pages (for example, http://softoption.us/content/node/437 scroll to the bottom). In theory, iBookAuthor can bring in most html5, and much javascript. The technique is to wrap the html in a folder, with 2 extra files, a plist and a default png and then change the extension of the folder to ‘.wdgt’. This is the technique for making Dashboard widgets for the Mac, and Apple even have the Dashcode software to do it. So what you really do is to make a Dashboard widget, then iBookAuthor can import it.  So far, so good. And some  folk have been doing this, for example http://www.prweb.com/releases/2012/2/prweb9242432.htm http://www.panophoto.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=10417&p=158330#p158423 However, if you start with GWT and create a single page with one button and a Hello World, compile it, and get the WAR file (I use Eclipse here)… the Safari browser and others will run it properly (even on an iPad). Then if you wrap it, a proper Dashboard widget is created, which runs properly on a Mac. Then if you go to iBookAuthor and put a custom widget in the Text, then drag it in. It is accepted by the text and shown as being there. However, if you use Preview to look at it on an iPad, it is gone (or was never there in the first place). Anyone any ideas on this? [And iBook Author seems to give no warnings.] The widget is at https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46713473/Test6.wdgt.zip I have bells and whistles that I’d like to get into an iBook!
    Thanks for any insights.
    Martin

I do have a little to add, which might help someone. Indeed, opening a blank page and dragging the widget straight in seems good in difficult cases. But, actually, I was also able to insert successfully from the Toolbar especially to blank pages. So, it may have been something to do with the columns and stuff like that. Anyway back then the insertion would show in iBooks Author but not in the Preview on the iPad. I moved on to actual Google Web Toolkit output javascript. Basically I had three at hand to try: a Hello World with a button which went straight it, one of moderate complexity, (for example with a built in Lisp interpreter), which also went straight in, and finally a more complex one that initially was rejected by iBook Author. Author complained that there was an unsupported media file (of course, Author does not tell you which one it is, that would be too easy). [Remember, this was a proper working Dashboard widget which could be installed on a Mac]. Among other things I had read remarks about .gif files. When looking through the GWT war directory at the actual javascript etc files, I noticed there were two gifs there one called ‘clear.cache.gif ‘  and a second one called  ‘0F89659FF3F324AE4116F700257E32BD.cache.gif’. (Now, there is obfuscation so the numbers here may be different from case to case.) The clear.cache.gif did not seem to be anything special. But the other one is an animation. It is three little boxes that twinkle (rather like a waiting spinning cursor).  So, I opened that file and saved it to itself (that picks the top frame of the animation and saves only that, leaving you with an unanimated gif). The resulting widget drags and drops into iBooks Author (and seems to work properly at a quick glance). So, if you are having trouble with ‘unsupported media files’ converting animated gifs into unanimated gifs might help in some cases.

  • When importing photos with iBooks Gallery widget, is anyone aware of a technique for simultaneously importing the photo's description (or jpeg file name) and writing it into the iBook Author caption field for the imported photo?

When importing photos with the iBooks Author Gallery widget, is anyone aware of a technique for simultaneously importing the photo's description (or jpeg file name) and writing it into the iBook Author caption field for the corresponding imported photo? I have 4,800 stills to import and can't imagine it's necessary to copy and paste the description for each.

As always, feel free to use the 'Provide iBooks Author Feedback' menu item for features you'd like added in the future, etc.

As for AS, I'm not sure anyone has sniffed iBA's dictionary yet...google is you friend for hot prospects, I'm sure

  • Can't drag image into widgets using ibooks author

i have ibooks author 2.0 and i'm running on 10.8.2. i was working on ibooks author and suddenly i couldn't drag any pictures into the widgets, not the Interactive Image, not the Gallery. In the Gallery widget i could get around it by manually inserting pictures (tediously) using the inspector, but there's no option for that using the Interactive Image widget. i've restarted the computer, hasn't made any difference, any help would be appreciated, thanks

yes, it goes onto the page, but it won't go inside the widgets. i've also tried deleting and re-installing ibooks author and it hasn't resolved the issue

  • Can't advance Keynote Widget on iBooks Author

Using Keynote 9 (version 5.1.1) and OS X Lion (10.7.2) and experiencing problems with Keynote Widget for iBooks Author.
The drag-and-drop feature works fine; I see the first slide - but the arrow button appears to be grayed out. Can't advance through any of my (pretty basic) transitions.
I don't have an iPad, so I can't see if the iBooks file works on that device, but I figured that the Keynote Widget should show some functionality in iBooks Author since both an Interactive Image Widget and QuickTime movie I added elsewhere appears to work. [That image clicks just fine in iBooks Author.]
Also, when I click "Show transport controls" in the inspector, I see arrows and 1/7 (number of slides) - but clicking still doesn't seem to work.
Do I need to be using an iPad to see this particular functionality? Or is this some sort of silly user-error? (Or both?)
    Any hints are much appreciated.

    Thanks for your prompt reply.
Here is the support page I found to be less than "clear":
iBooks Author: About the Keynote widget (note the first bullet-point: "Adding a presentation to a Keynote widget"): http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5067
I subsequently found the other support doc that is more clear - affirming the correctness of your answer.
Even so, I encourage you to reconsider the use of the word "clearly," which comes across as needlessly condescending.

I found this article that shows the folder we are looking for is here --
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iBooksX/Data/Documents/AEAnnotation/
    per http://mjtsai.com/blog/2013/11/06/the-problem-with-ibooks/ and http://computers.tutsplus.com/tutorials/beyond-highlighting-how-to-get-the-most- from-your-annotations--cms-20013
So I opened the files in TextWrangler to search for a word I know I highlighted in a particular book.  That helped me identify the correct file for the book I am concerned with.  I did a Time Machine restore of the file and got my notes back the way they were.
