ICal Alarm Editing Bug: Time off 4 hours, not fixed yet in 10.5.5?

Hi again all Mac users,
I have noticed this bug for quite a long while, which I cannot remember from when, but I think it was from around 10.3 or 10.4. I am used to it, and can deal with this since I know it. But, it still seems to persist even after updating to 10.5.5, and I have finally wanted to raise the issue up to this forum, in order to get it fixed, or obtain knowledge on how to fix this in my Mac.
When you double-click or Command+I an event in iCal, the detail of the event shows up, and you click "Edit" button at the bottom to edit it. Most of my events' "Alarm" are set as "Alarm with Sound". To edit this, you click right next to "Alarm" to bring out the pull-down menu. You can change "Alarm with Sound" to "No Alarm", etc. Also, you will see a list of the latest settings you used at the bottom of this pull-down menu, with date, time and sound, etc. to choose from.
*My Bug Phenotype:*
ALL of the listed settings in this pull-down menu are EXACTLY 4 hours (FOUR HOURS) later of what that actually sets and do. For instance, I set a new event at "2008/6/1 10:00, playing Susumi sound". This setting will newly show up in the for-mentioned pull-down menu. But, because of a bug or by an unknown reason, within the list it shows "2008/6/1 14:00, playing Susumi sound", showing the time 4 hours later. Continuously, if you edit another event's alarm setting, and choose the previous setting of erroneous "2008/6/1 14:00, playing Susumi sound" that shows up from the pull-down menu, the event you're editing will actually be set to "2008/6/1 10:00, playing Susumi sound", which is correct with the very original setting I first used, but then again it is 4 hours ahead of what you see in the pull-down list. Once set, all event will show the proper Alarm time set, and work at the correct timing. It seems that there's a bug just in this pull-down menu showing the previous settings, adding and showing 4 hours later to what it should be, but also correctly stores and set the original time.
Does everybody understand what I tried to explain?
Does anyone else have the same experience?
Is this just me?
Is it always 4 hours?
Any way to fix this?
Is this an iCal Bug, to be fixed?
Thanks for your help in advance!

PPPS?: This is my second post on this iCal issue this year, last time on May 30, 2008, but no one seems to care... Really? No one has the same symptoms? Weird...

Dr.MORO,
1. Try refreshing the iCal plist file. Navigate to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder, and find the com.apple.iCal.plist file. Drag that file to your desktop, log out/in or restart.
2. What time do you have set in your iCal Time Zone Window?
3. Have you tried to change your settings in System Preferences...>International>Formats>(Region:) (Dates) (Times)? Customize... Quit iCal before changing these settings, and repeat #1 above before opening iCal.
4. Do you have a default time checked in iCal>Preferences...>General>Add a default alarm to all new events and invitations?
5. Do you have "Turn on time zone support" checked in iCal>Preferences>Advanced?
6. Do you have the proper "Time Zone" selected in System Preferences...>Date & Time?
7. Are you syncing any of your computers?

Only through AppleCare, but your equipment is probably no longer covered. As far as I know you could still use AppleCare but it would cost an arm and a leg for phone support since you no longer have a contract. Do you have an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Provider nearby?

Since Apple Discussions participation relies entirely upon other users for possible solutions, it is my guess that no one had the same problem or could offer a reasonable solution. Sorry to hear that you did not get a response to your previous post, but I care.

  • Disable ical alarms temporarily (e. g. for 2 hours) by apple script ?

    Hi,
I'm searching for a way to disable the ical alarm pop-ups temporarily (e. g. for 2 hours).
Is there a way to do that?
    Why?
For people giving presentations with MS PowerPoint or Keynote it might be a problem if during the talk a window pops open - maybe even with private content..
I know that there is the option in the preferences, but once I used it I forgot to re-activate the alarms, so it would be better to define for how long the alarms will be disabled before.
Does anyone know how to do that?
If there's no complete solution, it would at least be interesting to know how to access this option by AppleScript.
    Martin

My iCal is up to date in OSX Lion and the script below is working for me. It doesn't actually take time into account, like beckmart had wanted and I'm not very applescript savvy so I just put it into an automator workflow using the script twice with a "pause" in between.
    tell application "iCal" to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
click menu item 3 of menu 1 of menu bar item 2 of menu bar 1
click button 3 of tool bar 1 of window 1
click checkbox 1 of window 1
click menu item 10 of menu 1 of menu bar item 3 of menu bar 1
    end tell
    tell application "iCal" to quit

  • Movie rental time limit: 24 hours not enough?

If I am in the middle of watching a movie and the 24 hour limit is up, does the movie just quit or will it keep playing until it's finished?
And is it just me, or is 24 hours not long enough? Suppose at 7:00 I decide to rent Cinderella for the kids, but by 8:00 they're all asleep. They'll have to wait until the next night to watch it, but unfortunately when the clock strikes 7, the rental, like Cinderella's coach disappears. It might play to completion if I start it at 6:59, but if I wait until 7:01 to continue it, I'm SOL
Wouldn't a 30-hour time limit make more sense?

My previous post regarding this issue was pulled due to "inappropriate non-technical issues". So i will try to be more technical. I downloaded a movie over a three day period only to find that the movie had a 2 hr window left after the download was finished. This was due to the fact that i clicked on the rented movie icon to see what it was (this was my first time renting). The movie played for 10 sec. then i stopped it. I guess i was unaware of the 24 hour limit.
I feel that if you have a 3o day rental...you should be able to view the movie for 30 days, and as many times as you wish during that 30 days. Its good enough for Netflix and the like. I don't think I'll rent anymore form iTunes.
    That is my two cents.

  • ICal alarm setting bug?

One thing that really annoys me is when I set a new event in iCal, say at 10am, the alarm is automatically set for 10am. Since I have the "Add a default alarm to all new events and invitations" set to 0 minutes before the start time in the prefs, this is normal.
However if I edit the event and change the time to 11am, the alarm time is not updated, it stays on 10am.
I couldn't find a discussion about this, so I wonder if I am the only one having this problem.

why don't you make one yourself? Also, probably better if you posted in the iCal part of the discussion boards.

  • Alarm set to go off every hour of the day, how do I do this?

I want to have a reminder/alarm every hour of the day once it hits the new hour mark, how do I do this? I went into clock and it lets me set an alarm but my only repeat option are the same time every day, not the same alarm every hour at the top of the hour.

I can but it would be easier to just add a reminder that lets you have an alarm every hour, maybe we'll get this in the new update today

  • ICal Alarm Message Is Almost Off The Screen.

After a couple of years of having a weekly reminder message, I have recently started getting them 90% off the screen.
Although I drag them to the middle before closing them, the next one always appears 90% offscreen.
I did update to Tiger but I am sure I received "normal" ones at first.
    Any ideas?

  • Why does iCal work only some times? how can I fix it?

I think iCal is great. But sometimes it only shows the month but not the heading so I can move to another month. Other times when I go into the menu I can not add new events as this item is grayed out? Also if I try to go to a different day it doesn't go. I have repaired permissions. I have version 3.0.5. Any suggestions how I can make it more useable? Thank you

    llw-00,
Often iCal problems can be rectified by refreshing the iCal plist file. Navigate to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder, and find the com.apple.iCal.plist file. Drag that file to your desktop, log out/in or restart and let us know what happens when you attempt to open iCal.
Additionally, since you appear to be having problems related to Date/Time open System Preferences...>International>Formats and experiment with changing Region/Dates/Times.

  • Flash Player bug still not fixed yet ?

I had to do a system restore to get back to a working version
of adobe flash player - i put up with no flash for a week, but my
sister thinks I've downloaded a bug onto her machine because there
is obviously something up with this latest version of flash.
it says it's successfully installed, shows the little moving
picture etc. then you go on to myspace or jibjab or anything cool
with flash in it and it doesn't work.
Like I said I've had to use a system restore for the first
time in years as I guessed it was a flash bug pretty quick as I
    monitor my updates.
Anyone know if adobe are ackwoledging & fixing this bug ?
    - it would be handy to know when it is safe to install the latest
    flash player that works.
I'm not a techie so have no intention of poking inside my
machine or it's settings - just wierd how adobe haven't told
website that use the product that services may be affected - so
they can warn customers not to download the latest player until
    adobe have fixed the problem!

The same thing happened to me. I've tried so many things -
    but nothing works.
Just like you, I download flash, it installs successfully -
it seems - then I go to other sites and it doesn't work anymore.
Now I have to install flash everytime before I open up my browser,
then it works for a website or two - then it fails again.
Is this happening to anyone else?
I have a brand new Mac intel 15 inch laptop - newest
    operating software.
I have all my updates, etc,... updated & this is
    ridiculous.

  • Bug in print module still not fixed in LR2.1RC

    MacPro 10.5.5 iPF9000 Canon driver 1.30
What I found out is that when going to Print Setup under Color Matching I can choose Vendor Matching and then I can choose CM off in the Driver. If I then hit Print One the print is correct.
If I go to Print under Color Matching I cannot choose Vendor Matching. Both selections are grayed out and Colorsync is shown as checked. Of course I cannot choose CM Off this way. After I have once gone into the Print and then go back to Print Setup I can no longer choose Vendor Matching and have the same grayed out dialog under Color Matching. And off course the print is not correct this way with the double profiling that is going along.
Also it should be noted that selecting the cancel button in the Print Settings dialog brings about this behavior were it defaults to using colorsync and the Color Matching options are grayed out.
Close and restart LR2 and then you can have the Color Matching option back so that you can select CM off in the printer driver. Just do not select Cancel.

These issues (Dark prints, wrong profile handling, color shift, ...) are persisting since 1.3.x!!!!
Only for some! I use LR1/2 for printing all the time, and its great. Near-perfect color matching, incredibly useful printer presets, great resizing, etc, etc. But I use V64 and Epson printers.
Have you reported your particular problem to Adobe Support?

  • IPhone 5 iOS 7 still shutting off   Is there a fix yet

Since the iOS 7 update my phone keeps shutting off by its self and it's getting really frustrating.  Usually after 5 min it will turn back on when I press and hold both home key and power key.  But this is getting stupid there have been 2 updates already. When will this get fixed.   It's getting worse  at first it would shut off at 25% battery. Now it's shutting off with 39-40% battery then when it does turn on the battery life goes so quick but when I plug it in to charge it shows more. Like tonight for example. It shut off on me 3 times in 30 min,  then dropped down to 1% battery when I plugged in to charge it was at 50%.  Very frustrating   Apple needs to fix this.   Anyone else no of a solution ?

It sounds to me like you have a firmware issue.  The reason I say this is that the behavior has survived several resets and at least two iOS updates.  After to doing a sync/backup with your computer, try doing a Device Firmware Update.  This should fix the application crashes and the anomaly between battery readings and actual batery strength.
After the DFU, you should be able to restore from backup.  If restoring from backup causes the issues to return, try a second DFU and then configure the iPhone as a new device.  If you want to save yourself a step, just configure as new after the first DFU.

  • Alarm clock sometimes going off hour early.

I was under the impression that this alarm clock bug was only affecting people in other countries after daylight savings. However, it is happening to me in Chicago right now!
I noticed this yesterday when an alarm I use everyday, woke me up an hour early. it just did the same thing again today. I tried to "trick" it by setting an alarm this morning for an hour later, but strangly it went of at the time I actually set it for.
Anyone else having this problem in the USA?

Yes, since last weekend, an alarm is now going off an hour early every day. Hope you get an answer.
