Ical integration

I was wondering if Apple could integrate the ical and contacts. For instance if I have a contact Fred Bloggs. When I enter Fred into ical then it cold check through my contacts and come up with suggestions. The when you choose Fred Bloggs it could enter the name. You could use the ical appointment click on it and you could phone/sms/email that contact direct from ical.

I posted essentially the same suggestion via the "Provide iWeb Feedback" mechanism in the program. Even just a calendar template whose appearance can be controlled/modified by iWeb, but whose content is iCal driven (XML/RSS) would be fine for me.
For now you could just put a link to your iCal calendar published to .mac on the site you create with iWeb. Grab a small gif of a calendar and make it a hyperlink . Drag and drop of images from other sites works, so you can just d&d the iCal logo on to your page.

  • ICal Integration with iWeb site

I used PHP iCalendar (Thanks to Gs World for having it on his page) and thought that this is pretty cool.
    http://www.txbluebonnetwp.org/iCal/
    What do you think?
This page is under my main calendar site (Click on the Test Calendar link in the Banner - if you get lost.)
Here is where to find PHP iCalendar. it is open source. and you have config it just a little in a text editor (Read the Read Me File)
    http://phpicalendar.net/
It is not terribly hard to get a calendar on the site. You make one in iCal, then put it in the calendar folder inside the PHP iCalendar Folder (get rid of the three samples (Work, Holidays etc.)
Upload that folder to your server, and make some links to that folder in you iWeb site. Customizing it can get trickier, but it is pretty logical the way it is laid out. I am hardly comfortable with code but seem to have it working pretty good so far.
Would love some feedback about the site!!!
    Thanks
    Cobe

I think you have to copy your calendar to the server. But it only takes a second.
As for a stylesheet, it has a folder of templates that you can modify: header.tpl, admin.tpl, calendar.tpl etc. (i changed the header.tpl - and it is changed on all the pages).
All the template files seem to be built nested within each other so that you only have to change it once.
There is also a default.css file in there.

  • ICal integration with map

I would like to link the LOCATION information from iCal with a map, ideally so this can be viewed at my website
    Suggestions?

    Hi Coen
I have the same issue. Looks like "open connector" needs to be installed on outlook in order for it to work with CalDav standards. However, I have had no luck in finding any documentation.
Apple says that this works with snow leopard. If only they had a published example!
This is what's stopping my company from buying a mac server. If I could get outlook calendaring to work with it, we would definitely jump on!

  • Feature Request: iCal integration

I would like to be able to drag or right click to create a new calendar event from my emails.
    G5 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

The problem with this is, what info is iCal to use? When should it make the event? What portion of the mail text should it use to label it? etc
If your event mails are in any sort of regular format, you can have an applescript parse out the relevant information and use it to create your iCal event. There were a couple of recent discussions on this topic - take a look at this one which gives a basic approach if there is no formatting.

  • ICal problem with Doodle

I have succeeded in subscribing to my Doodle account (MeetMe) wihtin iCal but not the other way around. I other words Doodle's MeetMe does not display times I am busy from my iCal calendar. I am using Mac Os X Lion and ICal 5.0 (Doodle's help on ICal integration directs one to ICal 2.0). Any advice?

i think i can start all over with my ical but i know if i add any events to the palm and then try to sync them to ical, the whole time zone problem is going to come up.
And for some reason, my activity monitor shows a powerpc process called missing sync powerpc compatibility. why would that be there? my mac mini is intel.... this is so frustrating.

  • Macmini Server for Mentoring program

I am in the development stages of setting up a mentoring program. I have been looking at the macmini server as an option but have a some questions in regards of ease of use versus a linux setup.
I will be using apple computers along with ipad for my coordinators.
I see that I can host a web site, but will it be able to host a vbulletin forum as well?
I am pretty proficient when it comes to software, but have not really messed around with linux much. tried ubuntu and liked it but it seems odd coming from mac osx and windows. How user friendly is SL server edition campared to Ubuntu server in regards to setup, maintaining and management. I do not have the budget to have an IT person on staff.
The server will primary be used to host website, forum, and file sharing. I like the integration of ical and the mail server. Any advise and suggestions appreciated.

I've never setup a Ubuntu server but a Mac mini server is very simple, use your 90 days of free phone support as much as you can. Or see what that new Joint Venture thing is that they launched the other day.
The Web Server is good and the Mail and iCal integration I can't remember if a Forum comes as one of the easy setup site options so thats a bit more work under the hood.
The Applecare gives you phone support for a very good price cant see you getting an option like that on Linux, both have good online forums for assistance as well.
The applecare doesn't cover command line though just GUI which probably means a vbulletin install would not be covered it you ran into trouble (so online forums for that one).
For the price and its abilities IMO you'd be mad not to go with the Mini, especially with other macs and ipads.

  • Synchronous AppleScript using osascript

    Hello all,
I have a java app I'm putting ical integration into. Contrary to popular belief, it actually works very well by having the java call osascript which is calling an AppleScript. Everything is great, but then I started getting a lot more events in ical to sort through.
It looks like the osascript and or the applescript are being executed asynchronously.
The option I'm considering, but don't like because of the cheese factor, is to have the applescript create a file at the beginning of the script and destroying it at the end. The java app could then loop (and sleep) while the file exists. Gross, but possibly effective semaphors.
Anyone run into this or have a better idea?
    many thanks in advance!

    Hello
I, too, am not sure what you're after by such a complicated device.
Anyway, I think one problem lies in how you quote the argument. Parameter expansion won't take place in single-quoted string.
    Try something like this:
    argv='{name:\"someone\"}'
osascript -e "set x to run script \"$argv\"" -e 'return name of x'
    Or:
    argv='{name:\"someone\"}'
    osascript <<-EOT
set x to run script "$argv"
    return name of x
    EOT
(They are NOT tested. Also please copy code from this web page, not from subscribed email text, for I escaped some characters for posting.)

  • Is there a way to bypass having to use an outgoing SMTP server?

    Hi all,
I'm always mailing from different places with my MacBook, and it's a drag that I have to figure out the outgoing SMTP server the whole time.
You don't have to fill in outgoing SMTP servers if you're using Thunderbird or Entourage, but I prefer working with mail because of it's Address Book & iCal integration.
Is there a way NOT to have to fill in a local SMTP server, without transferring to a paid .mac account etc?

Sounds like you've got it solved, but just for future reference, Google Mail (Gmail) allows you to use their outgoing mail servers for any email anywhere. I've got a Mac email, so I use the MobileMe Mail Server for that.
But I've also got another email that's non-Mac that I use for a vacation rental property. It uses a domain I bought. Then all I did was create a Gmail email account and then I can use Gmail's outgoing mail server (smtp.gmail.com) for this other email that's neither a Gmail or Mac account. You need to create a Gmail account to make this work cuz it uses authentication (Gmail email and password) to allow access to Gmail's outgoing mail server. But you don't need to use the Gmail email at all.
Hopefully this isn't too confusing. The bottom line to all this is I can use Gmail's outgoing mail server for any email address I have from anywhere in the world. I never have to change it.

  • Adding calendar to GoLive page

    Hi
I need to add a calendar to an existing website, so that someone could add events to certain days (it's actually for hall bookings), so that anyone visiting the site could see which days were free and which events were happening on which days in that month.
Does anyone know of any 'off the shelf' packages that I could use for this?
The site is old, so it's actually built in GoLive (I'm now using Dreamweaver), but is static html, so adding standalone programs should not be a problem.
    Many thanks for any help.

    I like this one:
    http://www.k5n.us/webcalendar.php
If you are an iCal user (or your client is) there are also methods to publish your iCal online.
EDIT: clarification - The above comments are not meant to be related. webcalendar does have some limited iCal integration but my last comment meant to indicate that there are other programs and services that support iCal publishing (such as .Mac/MobileMe, or some free alternatives).

  • TS3276 Mac mail & Microsoft Exchange incompatibilities

I'm having problems with the Mac Mail interface.  It seems unable to deal with two accounts that use Microsoft Exchange.  Sometimes it lets me send mail from one of these accounts, sometimes from neither account.  Receiving is less of a problem.

As long as Exchange generates e-mails, Mac OS X Mail will be able to understand it:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/windows/
The real question is Exchange iCal integration:
    http://www.snerdware.com/groupcal/
And with iCal you can generate e-mails to remind you of events:

  • Best PIM for os x

    Hi everyone,
I have done a lot of research on this topic, but I cannot seem to get a clear answer. I was leaning towards SOHO organizer, but it has gotten a lot of bad comments from people on this board and in other places.
Right now I use the ical/address book/mail programs in conjunction with Mark/Space memopad and Mark/Space missing sync to sync everything to my palm.
Everything syncs great, and all else seems well, but I am just left wishing I could use some program to bring all of these together. Preferably it would be something that stays synced with ical, address boook, etc. I would be willing to give SOHO organizer a try if some people think that it is worth a shot.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    Jake

Sounds like we're doing pretty much the same thing.
I also use iCal, AddressBook, & Mail - sync it to my Treo using MissingSync beautifully.
I so desire some more integration between the 3 Mac apps as well as the ability to track stuff for business AND time/track calls with notes etc.
So I tried SOHO Organizer/Notes demo and liked it a LOT! Then halfway thru my 30-day demo, ~90% of my AddressBook info disappeared. The console app lead me to believe that SOHO Organizer simply randomly deleted all my data without reason. So I emailed Chronos Tech Support the info.
In the meantime, I do nightly backups, so I was able to un-install SOHO and restore my data and moved on in my investigations toward other products.
I demo'ed Contactizer (http://objective-decision.com) & Crm4Mac (http://crm4mac.com) and was pretty disappointed in both. They had great promise, but lacked in the features "I" need.
So then I headed over to the acclaimed Daylite (http://marketcircle.com) but haven't run the demo yet. I am very intrigued in it - the website screenshots and descriptions look like it'd be an awesome program filling my needs - especially with its Mail integration and Billing software. But I just hate that it does not use the Mac iCal & AddressBook databases. And I've read that my MissingSync isn't compatible with it (which is essential). So I've held off on installing the demo.
In the meantime, I've heard back from Chronos Support. They swear that SOHO did NOT do the deleting of my data - that it was Apple/Tiger's own "SyncServices" (enter "going-over-my-head" time). They said that Apple is aware that SyncService has a problem with random deletion of data and that they are working on it. Odd though, that I've NEVER had that happen before in all my time in OS X - only after SOHO was installed did it happen - so I don't know what to believe. I'd REALLY like to believe them and use it, but I'm scared. If I can just get some more user-experience to provide confidence in it, I wouldn't mind trying it out again.
Also, sidenote, Chronos said their next version, which finishes out the iCal integration, will be released before the end of December.
So, anyone else have any +/- experiences with SOHO?

  • Pcsuite for N82 for mac-user

does anyone know where to download pcsuite for n82 for mac user?

grrr.... with the number of people how have asked this exact question since i first bought my nokia phone a year ago, you'd think nokia would emblazen across their homepage, "MAC USERS you don't need PCSUITE, you need Nokia Multimedia Transfer"
but they dont. so i don't blame you for asking.
    1. psychomania is right, albeit a bit abrupt: there is no PCSuite for the mac.
    2. abrupt? yes. because there is an alternative software 'suite' for you: the combination of iSync and nokia's own 'Nokia Multimedia Transfer'. that's the short answer i would like to have seen posted as the first response to your query. go here:
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4423133
that's nokia's MAC software page. download the iSync plugin for your phone and the Nok...Mult...Transfer (lets call it NMT, shall we?) program.
    3. the LONG answer. while some people complain (habitually) that nokia doesn't properly support the mac, etc etc, i can think of nothing truly missing from the iSync+NMT combo. with this combo you get:
    * iPhoto integration (including automatically copying scaled copies of photos back to your phone post transfer to the MAC)
    * iTunes integration - including album art if you have it (sadly, this seems to only work for AAC files, but since this codec was DESIGNED to REPLACE mp3, and chances are you have mp3 now, converting to this format is generally a Good Thing)
    * Address Book integration - yup, with all the numbers, notes and even contact photos intact
    * iCal integration - todos, anniversaries, you get the idea
    * Safari bookmark sync - either sync the phone to a specific folder in safari, or add all of safari's bookmarks to the phone, or both
so, what's missing? automatic sync when bluetooth comes in range? does pcsuite do this? (honestly, i don't know). my mac does. it's not part of the software listed above, but you can do it. i've got mine setup with 'Salling Clicker' to automatically run iSync when i'm in range up to twice a day. salling clicker isn't free, but it works across a large range of phones and computers (even runs on windows). i bought it 4 cell phones ago, back when i was a sony ericsson guy. i highly suggest you consider using it - even if you switch to windows and windows mobile somewhere down the line you'll be glad to have a license for this app handy (think: wireless remote control for every app in my computer, including actions when my phone rings like muting the music i'm blasting so i can hear the thing ring)
good luck, and i hope you enjoyed my little rant,
    -bit
    N95-1 ---> N97-NAM ---> N900 ---> E7-00 + N900 (I use them both)
(N95 was pretty good, N97 had potential but utterly failed to deliver, N900 is absurdly good. Those of you wondering, "should I try N900/Maemo/MeeGo"? The answer is a resounding YES)

  • ICal and Mail integration in other languages

    Hi,
I'm really impressed with the way mail integrates with iCal. My only problem is that I get a lot of meeting arrangements in Estonian, so mail doesn't recognise words like tomorrow, days of the week or months of the year. Is there a list in OS X where alternatives can be added? For instance, can I make Mail recognise both the English work 'tomorrow' and the Estonian word 'homme' as the same thing?
    Thanks,
    Ant

There's a nifty App out there called MailTags (http://www.indev.ca/MailTags.html).  I've been using it for a year or so on Lion and it connects your mail to iCal pretty well.
From what I'm reading on the MailTags support forum, however, the Mountain Lion version of MailTags, though available, is causing some pretty bad crashing problems at the moment.  I'm personally not installing it until I see those issues resolved.  I would keep an eye on it and wait for MailTags to fix the bugs, then take it out for a spin - they have a free trial.
In Lion with MailTags 3, you would open an email in Mail, click the tag and either assign an iCal Event to the email or an iCal Task.  You made the assignment right inside Mail using the "Tag" and the Event or Task would automatically appear in iCal - and Event/Task would include a link back to the Mail message it came from (which was super convenient).
Tasks in iCal seem to be gone since I installed Mountain Lion tonight. I'm not really happy about that - cannot figure out how to get them back. The "Reminders" icon was added to my toolbar - I'm guessing that Apple killed Tasks in iCal and replaced with Reminders??  Though I'm not convinced I didn't lose some data in this process.
It will be interesting to see how MailTags for Mountain Lion works with these changes from Apple - once MailTags for Mountain Lion gets stabilized anyway.  I was a PC person for 20 years.  The only thing Microsoft does better than Apple is Outlook's full integration of calendars, tasks and mail.  Wish Apple would wake up and see the value to integrating these tools into a single app - bouncing between THREE apps now for this is not productive.  But MailTags is the closest thing I've found to bringing that integration together since I went Mac.  Hopefully they'll have the new release of Mailtags for Mountain Lion stabilized soon, cause I'm already missing it.

  • Integrating iCal with a priority based reminders list?

i have recently realized that it would be helpful for me to tie a reminders-type-list to a calendar-based-display.
and while i see that i can set a "reminder" in Reminders so that this shows up on some day as an alert i am wondering if there is a way to find some software that woudl have a tighter integration with iCal so that i could see a list by priority that was cross referenced with a calendar that is obviously chronological.
am i missing something in Reminders app?
anyone doing this with Notational Velocity and/or Simplenote?
    TIA

You seem to think you are talking to Omnifocus here.  The odds of actually reaching them here are practically 0%, I would guess.
I suggest you go to the omnigroup forums and present your suggestions in the omnifocus forum.

  • ICal, Reminders, Contacts integration

Aren't these three applications integrated somehow? Is there a way I can click on a person name in contacts and create a reminder to call them including their contact info in the reminder without having to retype it all. Switching between two or three applications is cumbersome. I find myself triplicating information in all three of these applications. Is there another application that can accomplish this?
