iCal reports that it can't find server, and lots of data from several years ago is trying to get attention.  Cannot bring up calendar in any view to use. also keeps loading unused calendar websites from long ago.  I can' remove them. what to do?

UPDATE: I had 36 Safari windows open and minimized on the dock from my last session; 20 of those windows failed to open b/c Safari "couldn't find the server"; I just went to the URL bar of all 20 pages and clicked return, and all 20 pages loaded perfectly, without dropping any images or losing formatting. This is a puzzle!!!

  • Safari 'Can't find server' and Cache crash

I've upgraded to Lion on my Macbook Pro and Macbook Air.
On both of them, I'll quite regularly get the 'Safari can't find the server' page on big sites, like Google, BBC and rather infuriatingly, several times just now when trying to access Apple Discussions.
I tried clearing the cache on my Macbook Pro, but Safari then hangs and refuses to respond. The cache clears okay on my Air.
    Any suggestions?

    HI,
Open DNS Free / Basic should help that.
    Simple process at no cost.

  • When I try to use Safari I get an error message that states it can not find server Xn--%20%20-1ia0eb092a

When I try to use safari I get a message that states can not find server Xn--%20%20-1ia0eb092a

It sounds like you've got a messed-up homepage. Click the Safari menu, click Preferences, and under "Home page", re-type the page you'd prefer to load when Safari starts (eg "nytimes.com" or whatever). Close preferences and try again.

  • How do I get help when no updated browser can load a particular site,"can't find server,"

In recent weeks, possibly coinciding with updates in Firefox (running 3.6.10), Safari and iTunes, I have only received the prompt, "can't find server" when attempting to connect to the site below. Others can get it on their computers in other places, and my iPhone can access when on 3G, but our network here seems affected because all the computers [All macs, some laptops and some desktops, running on OS 10.5.8] here receive this message. I used to be able to go to this site, a radio station, and stream audio or download podcasts. My ISP ran a ping test to the site's server and said that went through, but the browsers don't seem to be able to make the transformation to anything I can read. What kind of a problem is this? Apple was no help either.

Well, it's very interesting that without my doing anything else, last Friday, kcrw.com mysteriously APPEARED when I went to it. This happened in Safari, too. It loads and I can stream the audio (with the Flash update). No explanation, really.
I had checked the protocols, but everything was default. It took all week for the change; so I can't believe that my tinkering (which was really only checking and doing nothing) was the cause of the reappearance.

  • Firefox does not load web pages; it always says 'can't find server' on every page I try to load

Firefox 'can not find server' reply comes up on every page I try to load, including my home page. I have to retry or refresh 3-4 times before it takes.

Sounds like a proxy server issue.  Go to System Preferences... > Network
Select the AirPort from the left hand side
Click on the Locations combo box and select "Automatic"
    Click on Advanced
Select the AirPort tab and enter your network name
    Select TCP/IP tab.
    Configure IPv4 Using DHCP
Now click on Renew DHCP Lease.  After a few seconds you should get an IP address (probably 192.168.x.x)
    Click on Proxies tab.
Select Auto Proxy Discovery and Use Passive FTP - de-select all other options.
Click on OK and Apply, etc.

  • Mavericks, Safari can't find server

I did as imaulik suggested and it cured it for me for 4 glorious days! Thank you imaulik. But this morning the same thing happened, Safari can't find server, Grrrrrr. I repeated imauliks advice again, and everything is working fine, as before. Thank you again! BUT, why did' DNS' in  'Network' in System preferences lose the numbers I put into it?

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
Paste into the window of another application.
Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Can't Find Server at... error -- only one site, works from non-Macs fine

    Greetings:
I have been getting a "Can't Find Server at www.teocommunications.com" error in Firefox for over a month now. I thought initially that it was a problem with the DNS entries and maybe the record had not proliferated though the DNS servers of my ISP or something of that nature. This is not the case.
I have tried to bring my site up in Safari and it yields the same result.
Did an nslookup, and everything resolves fine. Every once in awhile the site comes up on my Mac, but most of the time it gives the error. At all times, if you try to go to it from a Windows machine or my smart phone it works fine 100% if the time. My wife's Windows Vista machine with Firefox brings it up fine 100% of the time (she is on the very same network). I can get it to work for some reason if I totally reboot the Mac or reset the router (but the router is obviously not the problem)... it has to be something in the Mac OS (10.6 and 10.5) that is going on. I have eliminated all other possible problems. Curiously enough, it seems to also be a Leopard (not just Snow Leopard) issue... I can reproduce the error at my school (which is on a totally different network than my home) on the Mac Pro Intels they have which are still on Leopard.
I am on the latest version of Snow Leopard on a brand new Mac Mini.
This problem is only with my site (that I know of) but again it happens ONLY on Macs with Leopard or Snow Leopard. I am very annoyed by this problem and because it is my professional work site, it is imperative that I find the solution and soon.
    Hope someone can help.
APPLE, please look into possible configuration or DNS issues in Leopard/Snow Leopard, as before I posted here, I did try several 'fixes' for issues like this for Firefox before I noticed that Safari was getting the same issue and ANY OTHER PLATFORM sees my page just fine!

    Hi Guys:
It sometimes works from my Mac as well. I can get it to load if I reboot the Mac and then in a few reloads it is back to the same error.
I did try openDNS as well and it did not still load. I can pretty much guarantee that it is not the DNS records, it is something going on between my Mac (or the Pros at school). Other sites from my same host work fine, my domain is setup exactly the same. They do use ISPConfig... and it could be something with that program, but I can not seem to confirm any problems there.
I reset my router and the site is currently loading again on my Mac, but I can tell you it will be throwing the error in the very near future because that is one fix that worked before and it worked exactly two loads when I switched to a different wireless access point that is not my router.
SO, the fact that it loads one to up to twenty times on someone's Mac is not enough to reproduce the problem. It takes several reloads and then the problem magically re-appears. This is why the fact that it is working right now on my machine is not good enough to call it fixed.
Try to reload my site several times and see if it gives you the error.
I have (as I stated) tried a lot of what is being suggested here and re-tried it, but nothing fixes it for very long
I appreciate the help and hopefully we can figure out why the situation exists.
Thanks for the help so far and please feel free to keep suggesting ideas, but for reference I have tried:
    1. modifying settings in Firefox (although it does not matter what browser I use,the result is always the same)
    2. resetting the router and DSL modem
    3. modifying the /etc/hosts file on my Mac
    4. dscacheutil -flushcache
    5. using openDNS instead of my ISP (which is AT&T)
    6. removing the DNS settings and using the router settings
    7. turning off airport and back on after 30 seconds
    8. renewing my DHCP clients
    9. Signning onto a different wireless access point (which is actually a new ISP that I am going with and so they are a totally different network and subnet).. they are setup all over town with wireless access. -- pretty cool actually.
None of this seems to fix the problem loading only my site. Since I do have access to the hosting provider (I work with them)... I have done some things on the hosting side too. All to no avail.

  • Connected to the internet but browser says 'can't find server'

    Hi,
I have an Apple Airport Extreme and it has been working well for a long time. My husband and I both run our internet connections from it wirelessly. Recently, when we go to connect to the internet, the browser says 'Can't find Server' but the Airport status bar says we are fully connected to the internet with a strong signal. I have no idea what happened or what is going on. The only thing that we have done differently is update the firmware on both our computers, and it seems as if this problem has started around that time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
    April

It might be a good time to perform a complete power recycle of your network components to make sure they are "talking" to each other properly and see if this resolves the problem.
    Please try the following:
o Power-down the modem, AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), and computer(s); wait at least 15 minutes. Order is not critical.
o Power-on the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Plug-in the AEBS; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s).
Can they access the Internet now?

  • Error message, "safari can't find server"

I installed the latest version of Flash Player and ever since then I have had several error messages - "safari can't find server".  I tried uninstalling, then installing it directly from the website the next day, I also emptied cache and reset safari.  No luck - any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Ok. Let's now create you a new location and see if that fixes it:
    System Preferences > Network
In the Location section at the top of the window, click on the combo box and select Edit Locations...
Click on the plus sign and give your location a name (like Home), then Done
Now select Airport from the side bar, make sure Airport is turned On.
    Set the correct network name
    Now click on Advanced
Select the TCP/IP tab, Configure IPv4 as [Using DHCP], now click on Renew DHCP Lease and wait
After a few seconds you should get an IP address of 192.168.xx.xx and the Router field filled in.
Now go to the Proxies tab and select Auto Proxy Discovery, and use Passive Mode
Click on OK, make sure Airport is still select, then Apply
Fingers crossed!  This should now work...
    Good luck
    Bob

  • Connected to internet, but can't find server.

I have an 8gb 1.1.4 software. I have a wireless router in my house and I entered the password correctly, it says I am connect in the corner but when I go to Safari it says can not find server.

Exact same issue as my daughter had with her 1G Touch. Tried all suggestions found in this forum since mid-summer, and no luck. She sent it in to Apple for a replacement, and same thing with the new one. She has DSL with a modem/router from her provider and a Linksys wireless G, and her HP laptop connects wirelessly with no problems. We spent an afternoon trying different modem/router and Linksys settings and no help. I finally called her provider and complained that not only was the iPod touch unable to connect, but neither could the PS3, Wii, or Nintendo DS. They immediately OK'd a switch out of her Westell DSL modem/router with a new Zone. Everything now connects with no problems.
This is probably not your solution, but, boy, it sure worked for her.

  • Safari quits all the time, can't find server, garbled texts

Safari can't find server, will not browse, quits all the time, garbled texts, don't know if I am using  safari and snow leopard or safari with ox lion which i have upgraded recently.

SOMETHING ABOUT THE HARD DRIVE  SYMBOL START UP?
    I don't understand this.
I also disabled third party addons, is that wrong?
If you mean Safari extensions, that's OK. Extensions are not necessary in order to use Safari.

I updated to 7.0.2 and now some of my music has been removed and I can't find it, and music I deleted years ago has reappeared, and I can't delete it from icloud. My phone will also no longer sync with my computer. My phone has also been freezing regularly since I updated.

The reason, I included the annotation that I'd upgraded my Itunes, (On my Computer) is B/C in many forums - the very first question, *HELPERS* ask, is. "Do you have the latest version of Itunes downloaded on your computer." I wanted to knock out any obvious replies.
Now-  "DO YOU have any idea,"... how your UNHELPFUL remarks, do absolutely nothing but hurt others that might not have the EXPERIENCE you have? How do you expect people to know things without asking questions? Whew! RUDE!!

  • WebtopNaming - can not find server name for server ID

We have a LB, and web servers in front of OpenSSO app servers in our environment.
OpenSSO debug log CoreSystem fills up with lot of errors like these:
ERROR: WebtopNaming.getServerFromID() can not find server name for server ID : 07
    com.iplanet.services.naming.ServerEntryNotFoundException: Cannot find server.
Sometimes, it even complains about a server id (07 in the following trace) which doesn't even exist in the Site Id Table.
There are no changes in the configuration. DNS is properly configured and all the servers and their connectivity are available. CoreSystem throws these errors even after a restart of opensso app servers.
Any ideas about the root cause?

    Thank You for the response.
Here is my site configuration in OpenSSO:
There are 4 servers in the two opensso hosts (2 secure, 2 non secure)
    Servers:
    http://host4.company.com:8080/openSSO
    http://host5.company.com:8080/openSSO
    https://host4.company.com:8443/openSSO
    https://host5.company.com:8443/openSSO
Only one site with secure URLs is configured
    Sites:
    site1
    Primary URL: https://opensso-qa.company.com:443/openSSO
    Assigned Servers:
    https://host4.company.com:8443/openSSO
    https://host5.company.com:8443/openSSO
From the CoreSystem log, Server ID definitions are:
    https://host4.company.com:8443/openSSO=01
    https://host5.company.com:8443/openSSO=02
    https://opensso-qa.company.com:443/openSSO=03
    http://host4.company.com:8080/openSSO=04
    http://host5.company.com:8080/openSSO=05
Sometimes it throws an exception with existing server IDs. But sometimes it also complains about non existing server IDs.

How do you use "find my phone"?  I can't find it and I'm not sure I installed that app.

The app is not necessary; that only for tracking from another iOS device. If you set up Find My iPhone, you can track the iPhone from the iCloud web site:
    icloud.com/find
If you didn't configure Find My iPhone on the device before you lost it, then you're out of luck.
