ICal server not working after restore

Short version:
I did a clean install on my server. Restored the users & groups and the Library/CalendarServer folder.
I CAN browse my calendar data by going to http://[mydomain]:8008/ in Safari, even drilling right down to individual events.
But iCal, while it seems to login correctly and I don't get any errors, doesn't show any calendars.
Here's the long story with a bit more detail...
1. got my new server (yay!)
2. calendar server was working great
3. three users had multiple calendars, and we shared them with eachother
4. for reasons unrelated to iCal, I decided to do a clean install.
5. first I did an "ASR" backup using terminal - to an external hard drive
6. reinstalled Mac OS X Server version 10.5 (forgot to run software update at this point)
7. re-entered the users and groups manually, but I was careful to make sure they had the same UID's
8. used cp command to copy the collaboration folder back from the backup, as well as the CalendarServer folder.
9. after much difficulty, finally got the wiki server working again
10. iCal clients could still browse their own calendars (I guess they are cached locally), but were unable to connect to the server (login errors).
11. realized that I hadn't run software update. I ran it. now running 10.5.3
12. minor glitch with wikis is now solved... yay!
13. calendars disappear from all iCal clients when they attempt to connect to server... doh!
14. and here I am.

The current permission on /Library/CalendarServer/Documents are as follows.
drwxr-x---@ 2 _calendar admin 68 Jun 30 23:38 Documents
WebDAV:{DAV:}acl 136
Here's the error log when I restart iCal server.
I put the whole error messages below.

Ask your carrier to send you the settings over wifi and then install them that way.
I'm on giffgaff and I used the giffgaff app from the store to sort this out.
Overall though I must say Apple has let itself down on this as why isn't something written in the ios script that keeps the original settings??
Very Poor indeed and I held off using Apple products for years for this very reason!!

The WiFi Is Not Working After I Restored My 1st Gen. iPod Touch
    *PLEASE HELP!*

    luvlabs,
Thanks for attempting to assist in this. Unfortunately the networks around me are not even being seen by my ipod touch. I of course, to answer the dumb question you asked macpolymer, have my wifi settings turned to on. I will attempt the restore/reset again, but I have done that about 3 or 4 times now, can't recall exactly, with exactly the same result.
I need to have this resolved, otherwise I am stuck, as I have lost my receipt for Best Buy.

  • Time Machine not working after Restore.

Yesterday, for reasons I could not ascertain, OS X died on me. After much fannying about, I put in my Leopard install disc and restored the OS from a Time Machine backup. No problems at all. Good job Apple. Apart from a few stray emails, everything worked as far as I could tell.

  • Spotlight and iCal search not working after upgrade to Leopard

I recently upgraded my MBP to Leopard (10.5.7), and everything seemed fine. Except search in iCal wasn't working. I looked in forums and found a suggestion - renaming Calendar Cache in Home>>Library>>Calendars, then restarting iCal. iCal rebuilt the Calendar Cache (or looked like it was, progress bar and all), but search still wasn't working, failing to bring up events I was looking right at.
Then I tried to use Spotlight, and it didn't seem to be working either. I tried searching for Safari, and after a brief pause, Spotlight said "No Result Found." I confirmed Safari is in fact still on my MBP and working (opened from applications folder). After some more hunting on forums, I found a thread talking about how to force Spotlight to re-index, figuring that was at least Spotlight's problem. Here's the thread - http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=381832
I tried what it suggested, using the command line in Terminal, but Terminal just spat back "No Index." So now I'm stumped. Any ideas? I've already tried rebooting, to no effect, though I'll try it again tonight.

Well, thanks again for all the suggestions, but I sort of stumbled on the fix - which turned out to be upgrading MacFUSE. I had forgotten I installed that so I could read/write to my BootCamp Windows partition under Tiger, and a couple times when I would restart my computer I'd get an error message about MacFUSE (ironically, the error claimed my OS was out of date, but it was really MacFUSE that was out of date).
After I updated to the latest version of MacFUSE and restarted, Spotlight started indexing. Now it works just fine. Not sure if this is a known issue, but it seems that was most likely the problem.
Now I just have to figure out why the search feature in Calendar doesn't work... already tried rebuilding the Calendar Cache multiple times. Any ideas for that one?

  • Content Server not working after 5.0.2 upgrade

We upgraded the plumtree to 5.0.2. After upgrade, content server portlets not working properly. When I publish my portlet, Interface says it is published, HTML file generated at the published location, but log says
com.plumtree.search.UnknownTypeException: IndexManager.enqueue() : Could not find PTDocMaker for key PTCONTENT
    Portlet displays
Error: No Url is available for this portlet. It may not have been published.
    Any Idea ?

Hi Ravi, from the Release Notes for Content Server 5.0.2, there's this note "Publish Dialog does not show any error when search index fails but an error "com.plumtree.search.UnknownTypeException: IndexManager.enqueue() : Could not find PTDocMaker for key PTCONTENTTEMPLATE" is recorded in pcs.log. (Issue #27541) "
So you should make sure that the search server is running (just by doing a banner search). Assuming that's fine (it probably is), the likely culprit is an installation problem. Check the Content Server pcs.log file (located in PT_HOME\ptcs\5.0\settings\logs) for any error messages related to search api initialization. This cryptic error you're observing occurs when the search api initialization fails for some reason, the error is not gracefully caught and surfaced to the user. The pcs.log file may give a clue.

In the /var/log/mail.log I see many error  messages related to the same thing from Postfix whenever an inbound mail is recieved.
    May 24 06:26:22 my.server.com postfix/postscreen[25712]: CONNECT from [62.13.138.73]:64283 to [192.168.0.3]:25
    May 24 06:26:22 my.server.com postfix/postscreen[25712]: fatal: error seeking /Library/Server/Mail/Data/mta/postscreen_cache.db: Invalid argument
    May 24 06:26:23 my.server.com postfix/master[54]: warning: process /usr/libexec/postfix/postscreen pid 25712 exit status 1
    Help!

I'd guess that the postscreen database is missing or corrupt.
please issue the following Terminal.app commands:
    postconf -n -c /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/ | grep -i postscreen
    postconf -c /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/ | grep -i postscreen
and anonymize the output if and as desired.   If you anonymize, please consistenty replace the domain portion of your URL(s) to example.com, example.net and/or example.org (these are RFC-reserved bogus domains) and replace the server's host name to something else if that's more sensitive than "mail" or "www" or "server" — consistency in these changes is important — and alter any IP addresses included (other than 127.0.0.1 / localhost) to 10.20.30.40 (or some other private IP address — again, consistency in these changes is important — and then post that output here.
Before making any changes, get a complete system backup or two, on an external disk.  That's your path back if something here goes badly wrong, weird or otherwise untoward.
Once there are complete backups and entirely as a test / guess / experiment, I'd look to rename an existing postscreen database out of the way and see if a new cache database gets created, and would also check the file ownerships and protections of the files in that area.
    $ sudo ls -ale@ /Library/Server/Mail/Data/mta/
    Password:
    total 48
    drwxr-x---   5 _postfix  mail     170 Jan 30 15:20 .
    drwxr-xr-x  13 root      wheel    442 Jan 28 10:57 ..
    -rw-------   1 _postfix  mail      33 May  5 16:08 master.lock
    -rw-------   1 _postfix  mail   16384 May 24 08:22 postscreen_cache.db
    -rw-------   1 _postfix  mail    1024 May 24 10:04 prng_exch
    $
The two files that are most interesting in the above are the . and postscreen_cache.db files.
There is also an upgrade log around, and you'll definitely want to have a look in that — to see what (else?) went wrong here.  (Off the top, I don't recall the name of the upgrade log file.  In recent releases, it's usually something like /var/log/install.log — also check the system logs for "upgrade" messages.)

  • Profile manager not work after restore

    Dear All,
I am facing problem on my mac mini server.
Because my mac mini server failure before (Harddisk issue) and i use Time machine to repair the server
after i complete the restore process and try to use profile manager to send the app to enrolled ipad .
    It doesn't work.
anythings i should do  after restored the server in order to make it work?
    Thanks

    essandess,
Can you look for errors in the /Library/Logs/ProfileManager/migration_tool.log file? Paste any errors you see from the date/time of the upgrade in here.
If you see "cannot drop function dm_current_timestamp()" in the error, then the solution is posted here:

  • Super drive is not working after Restoring from Time Machine

well its pretty much the Subject actually, my imac giving me BlueScreen problem so i searched and posted question and the only Solution i got was to Re-install Leopard and i did that by using Leopard DVD and Restored my imac from Time Machine backup, But i got into new problem and now the TIME after restoring from the "Time Machine" my DVD ejecting EVERY CD,DVD etc. even the Leopard DVD which he reads happily.
I dont think its a hardware fault at all, but i'm not a "Genious". Any suggestion!

Issue solved with visit to Genius Bar.
As I understand it here are the steps the Genius did. Attempt to create the account (system preferences->users) with the same information. It will say it already exists. Very carefully read the options. One will say use the existing account. BE CAREFUL because one option will wipe your data.
If you need to do this it might be worth the trip to the Genius Bar as you could wipe your data. One precaution I took was to bring a full copy of that user account onto my desktop (from the backup immediately before the wipe) in addition to the one in the user folder. Once we verified that the account was working I moved the desktop copy to the trash and again verified the account (just to be safe).
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • Keyboard not working after restoring windows 7 from windows 10

Last Friday (7/31/15), I upgraded Windows 10 on my Sony laptop from Windows 7 Home Premiums. My Windows 7 worked fine before the upgrade. After upgrading to Windows 10, I had experienced issues with my Outlook mails (send/receive errors) and other apps (iTunes did not run, Google Chromes did not run, etc.) that I had under Windows 7. With Windows 10, I did not see my iPad or iPhone when trying to connect to my laptop, either.
With these issues/problems, I decided to restore back to Windows 7 (8/4/15). Windows 7 was restored on my laptop, and I am able to see my familiar screen, but my keys are frozen! I tried to navigate by clicking my mouse or hitting any key on my laptop, but nothing happens. I tried to reboot my laptop with different ways below, hoping to resolve the frozen keys but still did not work.
Turn off my laptop and open in "safe mode", "safe mode with network", "safe mode with command", and "start windows normally". (tried many times)Remove the laptop battery, let it sit for 1 - 5 minutes, put back the battery, and turn on the laptop. (tried many times)  Please help!!!!! I haven't been able to use my laptop since the upgrade to Windows 10 (July 31, 2015) and restore to Windows 7 (August 4, 2015).

Sounds like you've done everything right. Delete the prefs again, following the instructions here: Replace Your Preferences
If that doesn't work, take another look at what else is running and turn off stuff that you don't need to see if there's a conflict, and wait to see if Bob pops in.
As a last resort, uninstall again, then run the clean script befor you reinstall: Run the CS4 Clean Script
This was a clean install of Win 7, not an inplace upgrade over Vista, right? The upgrades are known to be iffy, so if that's what you did, think about doing a clean install instead.

  • ICal alarms not working after upgrade to Tiger

After upgrading to Tiger my iCal (v 2.0.2) alarms were not working. The solution that worked for me was to go to the preferences file in my home folder and remove "com.apple.iCal.alarmsCache.plist" and "com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist". I removed both at the same time but you may want to try one at a time. Quit mail and then reopen it. After of couple of tests with a message alarm and an email alarm it seems to have solved the problem.

    Vicki,
Force Quit iCal, from the  menu by choosing >Force Quit...>iCal.
Paste this text ~/Library into the Finder Menu>Go>Go to Folder...window and select "Go." This will open the Users Library Folder.
Then open the Calendars Folder which is in that Library Folder, and move any any files with "Cache" listed in the name field to your Desktop.
Next open the Preferences Folder in that same Library Folder and move the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the Desktop.
Log out/in or restart and open iCal.

  • Autofill not working after Restoring Shuffle

I have an old shuffle (bought in 2006). I was forced to restore it in order to put new music on it.  After restoring, I clicked "autofill" and it won't work - it says all the songs in my library are already on my ipod, but they aren't, it was wiped clean after restoring.  I tried to click and drag one song and got an error msg "must download from icoud first".  Went to Apple store for help and they are closed for renovations, an employee outside the store told me to call apple care and of course they wanted to charge me for help on this matter.  What do I need to do to put my library songs on my ipod....I restored it twice just to make sure the songs weren't somehow still on there.............

    Actually?
    THIS ***** SO INCREDIBLY!
At least before following this well-intentioned but misguided advice I still could track down all the old, CRUCIAL banking info, addresses, insurance and utility info (by looking into the keychain access) .... but now I've lost completely crucial passwords and usernames FOREVER.
(And I'm out of the country for a few weeks. And has anyone actually TRIED to phone Apple support in Canada???????? I DARE you. You cannot get thru. It's impossible. This update has totally screwed up my computer.... And being unable to get support either thru Apple or thru discussions is like Chinese water torture combined with someone slowly pulling out your fingernails one by one.)
