IChat is timed out, can't log in

Whenever I try to load iChat, it takes a while and then comes up with a message that says Could not connect to AIM The connection could not be completed because it timed out. Try again. but i try again but it won't log on. does anyone have a solution?

Delete com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist
You will have to go manually (not Spotlight) to
Home Folder/Library/Preferences to find it.

Disable your antivirus and firewall software.

  • Postfix/smtp[8437] Operation timed out can't send mail to 1 address

server 10.4.5 running mail, filesharing and website.
The mail server has been up for months working fawlessly. We have one address (domain) where we can't send mail, and users at that address can't send us mail.
All other mail functions on both ends seem to be functioning fine.
They seem to be running exchange as a mail server, but i don't have other details from their side. DNS/MX records all look like you would expect.
    This has me stumped.
i turned debug level loging on and got the following smtp message written to the log when i tried to mail to an address at that domain.
    Feb 23 20:45:10 fileserver postfix/smtp[8437]: 775401AFD61: to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=31, status=deferred (connect to anhc-mail.anhc.org[24.237.2.213]: Operation timed out)

    Yes, good luck to them.
    relay=none
    doesn't look so good.
Of course, a successful outgoing message should look something more like:
    Apr 8 11:41:05 server postfix/smtp[2300]: F1D4D3B8A27: to=<[email protected]>, relay=mail.someobfuscatedserver.com[6x.20x.148.1x6], delay=5, status=sent (250 2.0.0 k38FYfDS023848 Message accepted for delivery)
I take it you can send to any/all other mail addresses (servers) ?
    Here's a thought:
Some time ago, I had to edit the helo_checks config of postfix, for a windows mailserver because their AntiVirus was horribly mangling their outgoing mail, helo-ing as <fix-your-dns>.local
Point being that .local anything is not a viable tld for anything in the public realm, and certainly won't work with the rest of the world in terms of DNS.
That might be the work of Norton's break-it-for-you addon for Windows Exchange mailservers, not sure.
    Please post the output of:
    postconf -n
    on your server,
and the mail.log file content when they try to send you an email (confirm via telephone and watch for it).

  • HT1386 ipod timed out, can't sync with itunes

Help! I can't sync my iPod with iTunes.  I get an error message saying my iPod timed out.  What is going on?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reboot the computer
    - Try another cable and USB port
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Try on another computer
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IChat always timed out

I just brought my brand new MacBook home today, and have been trying to connect with iChat, but no luck. The internet works fine, I'm connected with Linksys. Do I need to download AIM?

I've set my preferences for iChat to AIM and gave it my screenname and password, but still no luck. It told me it "Could not connect to AIM. The connection could not be completed because it timed out. Try again." AIM Express works fine, but iChat will not let me connect to m buddy list

  • "network connection timed out"-can't update upgrade on ipod

Last year an ipod touch 8GB was given to me and I am just now updating everything. When I plug my ipod into my computer and open itunes, it prompts me to download and install 3.1.3 upgrade. So I hit "download and install" and right after it gets done downloading (takes 7 min), an error message pops up and says "network connection timed out"- could not install the upgrade, try again later. I have paid the 5 bucks for the upgrade and tried it about 10 times now with the same results everytime.
I have tried turning off my router and restarting that and also reset my network connections on the actual ipod itself with re-typing in my network name and password for the wifi. My wireless connection is strong and never goes out on me, as well as my ipod always recognizes it and connects automatically so I'm not sure why I keep getting this error message!
    HELP!!! thx

I ran into the issue this week. said yes to upgrade, ipod was backed up, and then upgrade died. ipod touch itself indicated it was no longer aware. power down did not help, itunes could not restore to previous. Looking on apple site, I was getting a code 14 error. solution was to update itunes to 9.03, restart system and then retry the download. it worked after that, and the backup did restore all my info including kindle books etc.

  • I have just downloaded firefox onto my laptop but it wont open. I keep getting a message that says: 'The connection has timed out' Can you help

This is the message i get after a few seconds of trying to connect:
    The connection has timed out.
The server at search.bearshare.com is taking too long to respond.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Is this when you install the EXE, or when you are running Firefox, or some other time?

  • After logging out, can't log back in without restart.

My Mac Pro just made a strange error. After waking it from sleep, I logged out of one account, & tried to log in to another. The Mac rejected the password! I tried the other 2 accounts, and both also rejected their passwords. Each password field had a little gray upward-pointing arrow graphic at the right end, which I have never seen before. I tried each account again, to make sure, and all passwords were rejected. Finally, I restarted, and everything was back to normal. This does not give me a feeling of confidence in my Mac. Why would this happen?

The grey upward arrow is the symbol for the shift key. You've got the Cap Locks key set.

  • How do I unsave my password from iChat so other people can't log on as me?

I'm using a loaner computer and signed on to iChat but now my password is saved and I don't want other people to be able to sign on as me. There doesn't seem to be any way to set it to require entry of a password.
    Many thanks.

    Hi Cameronian,
Open Keychain Access for the Applications/Utilities folder.
Find the Keychain for the account and double click it.
Now select the Show Password tick box.
You will be asked for your Admin Password.
Enter it and click the allow once.
    Delete the password.
In iChat go to Preferences > Accounts and delete the password in the account in question.
In iChat when you are asked for your password make sure the Save Password tickbox is unchecked.

  • In a cafe, all internet connecti9ns work, but the email client is saying Timed Out, can't access the server. Rebooted. Problem persists.

All other internet connections work - but the Mozilla email client can't access the mail... Works in every other café. But not here. Thanks!

I'd suggest you check with the cafe owner which ports are allowed there.
If in doubt simply use webmail, which will most likely work.

  • Logout has timed out, can't restart, program won't force quit

I have had a recurring problem with this, various programs will freeze but I can't force quit them, I also can't restart or shutdown due to the program that won't quit.
Overall my G5 (late 2005) is turning into a massive pile of S%#t
any help would be mucho appreciated!
    Thanks

I'm having similar problems - various times, and there is no pattern, I get the spinning beachball, which never loads what it's supposed to. I cannot force quit, I can move my cursor, and can sometimes switch to a different application while that beachball is spinning on the other app. I've done Disk Repair several times and been told that "no repairs were necessary." This is the FIRST time I"ve ever ever had problems with this computer since I've owned it - in 7 or 8 years. Any ideas?
