IChat keeps forgetting who I am! Logs in as if for the first time

This may be a permissions problem, because it relates to a second account (my wife's) on my computer which has had weird permission problems in the past.
When I switch to her account and launch iChat, it boots up as if it's the first time iChat was ever launched -- I get the "welcome to iChat" screen and it asks me to fill in the info. However, her AIM info is already filled in; only her name is not (and name is required). I fill it in, and iChat then opens normally and works.
If I quit and relaunch, the exact same thing happens again. Ad infinitum.
I tried trashing iChat prefs (did a search for them in the user directory) but that didn't fix it. Any suggestions?

my ichat also just now started acting as though i have never used it. everything had been working fine (as in the last time i logged in, this morningish...), the only change i made that could possibly affect it was a new user profile i just added to my computer. i just deleted that new user profile but it still seems to have the problem.
the only other possible change that maybe affects ichat is that i just purchased .mac, and have had sync issues. however i feel thats unrelated
i launch ichat and it shows the welcome set up stuff (thats the technical name), however all my information is already there (my name, aol screen name, password etc.). It seems to go fine, but suspiciously slow, much slower than anything else i am running right now. i end up force quitting through lack of patience for non-resposive software.
i just moved com.apple.ichat everything to the trash, and the problem persists. i am going to try to restart again, but i have little hope a simple restart will be so magical.
is there a way i can reinstall ichat that may fix this problem? the tiger install disk perhaps, in the custom install options?
any help would be greatly appreciated. -Jack H.

    Check your junk mail folder.
Go back to id.apple.com, and choose manage, enter your appleID and password.  It will take you to a page where your account info is displayed, and there should be a link to resend the verification email.

I clicked on iMessage on my Macbook Pro today for the first time, and now NOTES keeps opening up every 5 seconds, with a new note.  I cannot stop it from opening. If I close it or force close, it opens again in 5 seconds.  I can't get rid of it.  I have tried to clear out the iMessage settings I had put in, and I've tried to adjust the Accounts to not include notes to synch.  But, Notes will not stop.  It opens a new note, and even if you ignore it, it assumes preference every 5 seconds, and the Mac is impossible to use.

Do you have any Boot Camp or other secondary partitions set up on your system? If so then try running a disk verification routine (chkdsk, etc.) in Windows to repair the disk. While I've not heard of it happening recently, in the past errors in these partitions have resulted in stubborn ghost files appearing in OS X.

  • When creating a custom default user profile for an image, I get the error "A keychain cannot be found to store "safari" when a new user logs in for the first time.

My "profile" account works flawlessly with the exception of safari. I had copied the entire user template folder to the default location in OS X 10.10 and removed the entire keychain folder. However, whenever someone logs into the computer for the first time and opens Safari, they are greeted with the error message "A keychain cannot be found to store safari".

If you've just changed your login password in Recovery mode, follow these instructions. Otherwise, see below.
At some point, you may have reset your keychain to default in Keychain Access. That action would have caused your login keychain to be renamed.
Back up all data before proceeding.
In Keychain Access, delete the login keychain from the keychain list. Choose Delete References when prompted, not Delete References & Files.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Keychains
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return. A folder will open. Rename the file "login.keychain" in that folder to something like "login-old.keychain". Rename the file "login_renamed_1.keychain" to "login.keychain". You can then close the folder.
    Back in Keychain Access, select
              File ▹ Add Keychain...
from the menu bar. Add back the file now named "login.keychain". If any of your needed keychain items are missing from it, also add back the file you named "login-old.keychain". I suggest you transfer any needed items from that keychain to the login keychain, then delete it. The transfers are made by drag-and-drop in Keychain Access. You'll need to enter your password for each item transferred.

Used my girlfriends computer to start my iPad for the first time.   I logged into my itunes account.  Now the iPad has her iTunes account on it.  How do I change it to mine.

You can log out of her account by tapping on the id on the right-hand side of Settings > Store and you can then log in with your id - is that what you want to do ?

  • Opening application for the first time warning keeps coming

I've installed VLC player and amongst other media files set mp4 to automatically open with it. When I double click a mp4 file it asked 'You are opening the application 'VLC Player' for the first time' etc. Pressed ok. After that it didn't ask that any more.
However, every time I reboot my Mac and double click a mp4 file again, I keep getting that 'You are opening the application 'VLC Player' for the first time' warning popup again the first time I want to open a media file. Then it's gone again, until I reboot my Mac again.
Every time I reboot and want to play a media file I always get that 'first time' popup. It only happens with VLC Player. I've uninstalled it completely and reinstalled it again, but that 'first time' popup for VLC Player keeps coming every time I reboot and upon the first time I open a media file.
    How can I fix that?

Did you copy VLC to Applications folder? When you download VLC, you get it in a DMG file, that you have to open, and here's VLC. However, you don't have to copy the VLC copy you find in it, but you have to drag the VLC icon to the Applications icon:
Then, drag the VLC DMG file you find in the Desktop, drag it to Trash and delete the VLC installer from Downloads folder. Finally, open VLC from Applications folder

    Hi Mike,
I would think (from your original post) that the document was created in Numbers '08. Numbers 3.2.2 will not open a Numbers '08 document. Hence the message to save in Numbers '09. It looks as though your colleague must export to Excel and send you the Excel version.

  • Active Directory: user has admin rights when logs in for the first time

I have an Xserve server running OS X server 10.5.8 and trying to host _open and active directory_ for both Mac and PC machines. The open directory works fine but what happens on the active directory side is that, when a user logs in from a windows machine he/she can access all the other users folders. In other words, he/she almost has *admin rights*. Is this normal or there is some settings that I can look into to fix this?
Details: The first time user logs in, his only effect on the server is the password change. What this means is that his changes dont get uploaded to the server. It is only the second time the user logs in from ANOTHER computer that the server starts saving the his profile. Also, after the second login the user doesnt have admin rights anymore.
    Thanks,
    MR

You must create the account using an Apple device, a Mac (Lion or greater) or an IOS device (IOS5 or greater). Having done that you will be able to sign in from your Windows machine.

  • Siri keeps forgetting who I am and my personalized tones for friends are resetting.

My personalized ringtones and my info in Siri settings keep randomly resetting on my iphone 4S. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.
