IChat not displaying online buddies

I can still log into iChat successfully, but once im logged in, my online buddies dont appear, just all of my groups with all of my buddies in the "offline" category, i was told to delete the iChat files and restart my computer to configure the iChat settings, any help on how to do this? or fix my issue? thanks

Rather than the one Defcom suggests I would delete com.appleichat.AIM.plist if the Screen Name logs into AIM or the Jabber one for a Jabber or GoogleTalk Buddy list

have you tried on other people's computer and see? and are you

Ichat not displaying msn users online

Hi I use ichat, but it does not tell me when hotmail users are online even though they are through mac messenger. ANy ideas?

Hotmail and iChat use different messaging protocols, therefore you'll never see/connect with hotmail users. Mac Messenger is a 'Hotmail' based client. Here's a few other clients you might consider along with some descriptions of what they're compatible with...

IChat not displaying correct typed characters

Just installed 10.6, now iChat messages are displayed in upper case all the time.
They appear correct in the typing bar but when the message is sent they are all caps. And when I type in a cap, I get fractions, and other symbols when it's displayed in the chat window.
It's as if it using an optional keyboard layout.
Typing QWERTYU displays QfiERTffiU.
Typing ZXCVBN displays fflflCffB1/3.
When I try to copy the bizzare text and paste it here it pastes properly, meaning the original text I typed. It only displays incorrectly in the iChat window.
Any ideas?

Adobe Reader not displaying online bill properly?

Good afternoon,
Since June 2013, Adobe Reader began displaying one of my online utility bills with overprinted, reverse-oriented alphanumeric characters, over top of some portions of the bill, when using Firefox browser (v23). Adobe Reader version is current (v11). Using Win 7, 64-bit computer. Adobe Reader displays the bill correctly if I switch to the IE10 browser. Other utility bills (which use Adobe Reader to display them) are displayed correctly when using Firefox or IE10.
I've contacted the utility company's IT department, and although they say other customers are experiencing this same issue, there is no problem on their end.

My question: What is causing this problem and how can I resolve it?

That appears to be opening in Firefox's PDFJS viewer, and NOT with the Reader Plugin. The toolbar is a dead giveaway. The PDFJS viewer is not a good viewer. Here's how to disable it and use the Reader plugin instead.
In Firefox make sure you have at least two (2) tabs open - (Ctrl+T opens a new tab)
In the address bar of one tab, type "about:config" - minus the quotes, of course
You'll see a warning. Click "I'll be careful, I promise" and continue to the configuration page.
There's a search bar at the top. Type "js" - again, minus the quotes.
In the results you'll see pdfjsviewer.disabled with a vaule of false. Click it once, then right click it and choose Toggle to make the value "True".
Close that tab.
Click Tools>Options and go to the Applications tab
Locate Adobe Acrobat Document (or Portable Document File (PDF)) in the list and click the drop-down to select "Use Adobe Reader (in Firefox)". (Mine doesn't have that choice because I also have Acrobat Pro installed, and it's my default app for PDFs)
Click OK.
Click Tools>Addons to see that the Acrobat plugin is installed
Close and restart Firefox. PDFs should now open in a browser window with the Reader plugin.

hosting package and they didnt.. even though they said they
were sure thats
what they signed up for... after getting into the hosting
account it was
setup as a linux package..
So i had them upgrade it to the MS hosting packaged i had

So everything is ok and working great now...

My Bill Does Not Display Online

I have been a Verizon internet customer for close to 4 years. Through this time I have had high speed internet (DSL) at several addresses without having to open new accounts or make any changes other than service address.
In october, I moved to a new address where FiOS is available (hooray!) and set up my new account, canceling my DSL service at the old address. That part was easy enough. After moving in, I repeatedly checked my myverizon online account to review my service and see if there were new charges. Nothing, whatsoever, and in fact, the site claimed that I owe nothing to Verizon. Sounds great....
Over the last 2 months I received multiple bills in the mail stating that I have an overdue balance with Verizon and my service will be cut off. Strange, since my online account still shows a -54.60 balance.
When I access my account to review my current services, I see nothing. When I attempted to create a new verizon online account with my new FiOS account number, I am directed back to my current DSL account with the negative balance. Rather than wait for Verizon to resolve this I paid via mail and by phone honoring their shakedown tactics and ultimately parting with $187 for my trouble.
I still have no clue whether I owe them more money and when my bill, if there is one, is due. I am sick of snail mailing checks and paying $3.00 fees to pay by phone because my internet provider can't tell me what to pay them with any degree of accuracy.
Has this happened to anyone else?

PDF does not display online

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate and whenever I try to view a PDF either online or downloaded I get a more or less "blank" document with some random formatting lines in it.
I have tried Reader's 11, 10 and finally 9 to the same result.
I don't have any problem with PDF files on my old desktop running Reader 10. Please help!

Edge does not display online

Hi, I have a little problem with Edge.
I created an animation and when I preview this from my hard disc everything works fine.
But when I upload files to my host, animation disappears.

It looks like you didn't upload all the necessary files. When I go to that URL, I get this error in the js browser console:
"The requested URL /assets/slider/slider_edgePreload.js was not found on this server."
Be sure you are uploading these files/directories:
edge_includes (directory)
images (directory)
xxx_edge.js
xxx_edgeActions.js
xxx_edgePreload.js
xxx.html
I highly recommend using your browser's console log panel to debug your animations.
To show console log,
in Safari: Develop/Show Error Console
in Chrome: View/Developer/Javascript Console/Console
in FF: Tools/Web Developer/Web Console (or even better, install Firebug)

Online buddies not showing as online

A while back my ichat would show online buddies, but could not connect with them. Now, even buddies that I know are online and available show up as offline. How can I fix? I've tried trashing the cache and preferences, and changed the AIM port to 443. nada.

Hi,
If the setting on one or other to the computers does not allow the other she will not show up even when chatting.
If you do not have someone in your Buddy list you can use the File Menu > New chat to start a Text Chat.
To see if the Screen Name is in the Buddy List at all go to the View Menu and select Show Off Line Buddies (If there are not many buddies then Show them as a separate group).
If your Daughter's real name shows up (As they have her in their Address Book) mouse over her name and check the spelling of the Screen Name.
(Use the Apple Key (CMD) and I to alter if required)
IF her scree Name shows up on it's own then checking the Spelling is easy.
Notes:
ralphjohnsr
[email protected] and
[email protected] are three Different Buddies and only one will work.
This counts as a Misspelling. The AIM Servers only allow Valid names they don't tell you whether the name exists so it is possible to enter all three of the above in a Buddy List but only one will show as On-line.
As I said before this can be complicated by the Allow and Block setting at either computer.
Allow All is a Better Test.
Second Level Things.
Parental Controls.
IF the Mac User Account on the Buddy has Parental Controls Enabled then they have to Add your Daughter's Screen Name to the iChat Settings as well.
A Complication on this is if you have a test Mac User Account and try iChat there with the regular iChat Screen Name then set Parental Controls.
This first stage blocks All Buddies from All Buddy Lists (entered in iChat).
Buddies are Unblocked as they are Added to the Allow List in Parental Controls.
If you only test with a Few Buddies returning to your Regular Mac User Account and iChat there you will find the Security Settings of iChat have changed to Block Specific People and everyone who was not allowed in the Parental Controls test will be Blocked.
If you find that the Security Settings are set to Allow All and the Buddy is not Blocked and your daughter is not using Parental Controls and has never had her iChat Name used in another Mac User Account (i.e Nothing I have said applies) then try deleting com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist on both Macs and then restart iChat This recreates the .plist as iChat uses Defaults and the Keychain info to Log In again afresh.

My iChat 3.1.8 is not recognizing any online buddies

I have been using iChat for several years but in the last couple of days it has not been working. It will not acknowledge any of my online buddies. I have two macs in the house which both have ichat installed on them and both have worked up until recently. Now I don't see either on ichat from the other when I know that both are connected and iChat is open and online on both. Has anyone else been experienced this problem?

Several people seem to be highlighting problems with their Buddy List for AIM not showing Buddies or not adding Buddies at odd times.
This seems to be a AIM server problem.
If you have not already done so move the login port in iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Server Setting tab to 443 (from 5190) as this may improve things. You have to be Logged out of AIM to do this.

IChat will not display status messages.

I'm having a problem - iChat will not display any "available" status messages. All away messages display properly, but any unique status messages will not display, nor does the word "available". I have restarted both iChat and my MacBook several times, deleted the com.ichat.AIM preferences file, but it seems nothing I do will make my buddy's unique status messages display.
I did not previously use Chax but downloaded it to see if it would help; it didn't. I'm willing to delete it if it will solve my problem.

Ok,
As you either suspected or found out the Saved Status Messages are in com.apple.ihat.plist
The fact they didn't display would suggest that they may have become corrupted and the deletion of the .plist would have helped.
BUT you went on to mention that the Available Choice also does not display.
This would suggest one of two things.
1) Either you are not fully Logged in to the AIM servers properly
Do your Buddies see you are On-line and Available ?
Do they perceive your Status change ?
Can you Text chat to people ?
Can you send files or Pic in Text chats ?
Try Deleting com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist and restarting iChat to see if that helps
2) Something about iChat or it's support folders (the bits that make the Available show up), that are at fault.
In this case try deleting com.apple.ichatAgent.plist
This controls which accounts login and help the app to run some of the features such as the Video/Audio part and Text Messaging.
I would do these one at a time just so you know which it was that fixed it.

My Online Number Does Note Display When I Call Out...

I have been told by people I call that their phones do not display my online #. They see Unknown Number or Number Available or Another # I do not recognize.
This is a new problem for me. I have had the same online # for over a year.
Thoughts?

This so full of BS on Skypes part, I have to constantly come to my settings on this web site to reinactivate caller ID, it is the only place to do it, there is no setting on the app itself. First, why is the setting not being saved? Who is turning it off? Why do I have to go this website to activate it and same with the voicemail message greeding? Should be done via app!

Quicktime movies not being displayed online

Hey
When i try to watch a Quicktime movie online it will not display the movie, it displays all the buttons and plays the sounds but the actual movie image itself will not play..
It will play the movie if its saved to my computer though.
I have the most up to date Quicktime player and i have tried reinstalling it but still no luck.

Install these two QT components flip4mac and Perian. This may help. Also there are some website that are not Safari friendly try the same website running FireFox. I use it for the sites that have video I can't run on Safari.

Some pictures not displayed when being online

I would like to ask for advice, if someone has experience with following: When I am online (either on facebook, or any other webpage, some of the pictures there are not displayed) - neither on Safari nor on Google Chrome. I have tried to clear all browsing data including cookies, plug in data, cached images,..... as I believed it might help. I also checked my proxy settings, but I do not have any of them currently in use. Do you have any idea how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Have you by chance asked your friends if they are appearing offline on Skype? If not, make sure that they are appearing online. Also, is it just certain friends that are appearing offline or ALL of your contacts?
