IChat... the most dropped calls since ... who?

Got a problem that has been coming to light slowly... but with regular frequency.
I'll be chatting away with someone and not getting any answers. Yes, some of my friends walk away from me as I'm talking to them...
BUT --
Both from my end and their end I'll loose messages.
It happens on both sides of the conversation. They'll send me a screen shot of them talking away that I never saw... yes, my chat window's open the whole time... and sometimes I'll send them a screen shot of me talking away that they never got.
Can't be normal... but any way to ward this off?
Thanks
CaptM

Hi Captain,
Catching up on older posts.
Sometimes this does happen. I have had it happen in regular Saturday Chat I have.
I find that as I turn my computer off when I am not using it that it pays to run something like MacJanitor or Cocktail and force the Cron scripts now and then.
Something in the things that gets rotated seems to need this.
Losing Stacked icons for other iChat 3 Buddies seems to be an indicator.
As Jan has said dropping files or Pics on the Buddies name can get around some problems with sending them in the Text field of chats.
Sometimes deleting com.apple.AIM.plist can help for a period.
This seems to point to ichat not always getting the right "flag" information back form the AIM servers about capabilities or Buddy list updates as to who is on-line and such.
Sorry for the late check in.

  • The most dropped calls of any network....

I have to vent to see if anyone else has these issues. second iphone i have had, bought the new 3G when it came out, loved the first one. I am getting the worst cell reception i have ever had from any phone in the middle of a big city it will just drop the call after distorting my voice to the point where the other person cant hear me. i have stopped making calls now on the phone it is so irritating. has anyone else had this issue or should i take it back and try to get a new one? is that something that the apple store would give me a new phone for? thanks

Its been reported that Apple is working on a firmware fix for the problem.

  • TS3406 Has anyone else experienced frequent dropped calls since the latest IOS upgrade?

I have experienced dropped calls since I upgraded my IOS a few weeks ago. Anyone else having the same problem?  AT&T blames Apple, Apple blames AT&T, I'm stuck in the middle.
    HELP?!?!?!?

    I'm with ATT and no.
I had a dropped call not long ago and it wasn't due to my iPhone or ATT. A friend with Sprint tried to call me while driving through a known low reception area with Sprint. Sprint dropped the call.

  • Dramatic increase in drop calls since update 2.2.1

Has anyone else seen a dramatic increase in dropped calls since they installed the latest software update. My phone is quickly becoming unusable. I would estimate every 2 of 3 calls are dropped.

I've had my iPhone for about 3 months and until now had no problems. I did the upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 with no problems. Now I have upgraded from 2.2 to 2.2.1 which was a big mistake. My 3G data reception is much worse. Before 2.2.1 I could happily listen to NPR all day without a problem. Now it will either tell it can't access the network or die after 10 seconds. During which the phone displays 5 bars on 3G. The meter is a total lie. This problem is with any network application. Last night I ran the carrier update patch and that has not changed this problem.
My question is can I roll back to firmware 2.2? Will the iTunes restore process roll back the firmware? I had a blackberry 8830 before and could wipe the phone OS and roll it back. I haven't done any jail breaking processes.
It will be a cold day before I update my phone again. Any ideas how to roll back to an older version of the firmware or is there a fix out yet?
    Thanks.

    Based on what?
"When Apple rolled out iOS 6.1, its first major update to iOS 6, yesterday, it introduced a series of bug fixes, software tweaks for iTunes and Siri and also added LTE support - but none of that was any use to the disconnected and discontented sufferers of a particular iPhone software flaw: greyed-out Wi-Fi."

  • Dropped calls since 2.1 update

What the heck is up with the 2.1 update? It's turned my 3G iphone into a piece of junk. I'm seriously considering breaking my contract because it's almost unusable for it's main purpose: to be a phone. Before the 2.1 update, I had some dropped calls, but not what I'd call excessive. Now, 3 out of 4 calls drop. I think the other 25% didn't drop because they were short, had they been longer they have have dropped.
There are other complaints I have too that have affected the phone since 2.1, constant lockups and resetting, crashing of safari, etc... some things got a little better. However, this is supposed to be a PHONE, so it would be nice if I didn't have to track down a landline to make a call because this POS is falling short.
You do a search on the internet and all you see are headlines about how great the 2.1 update helped call quality and fixed dropped calls. Seems like a bunch of propaganda BS to me. Are others out there experiencing the same problems?

I think I figured something out with these dropped calls. I have noticed that since the 2.1 update my phone no longer fetches e-mail when the phone is sleeping. It get it (15minute interval) when I'm doing anything with the phone but if it's sleeping it doesn't check. Often times, just a minute or two after unlocking my phone say to play a game or look something up in my contacts, it'll chime with about 2 - 3 hours worth of e-mails that it didn't fetch while it was sleeping.
A friend noticed that since the 2.1 update, every time he gets an e-mail while on the phone he drops the call. In his case, he uses exchange so his phone only fetches the e-mail when he gets a push notification. Also I did notice that many times when I drop a call right afterwards my phone chimes that an e-mail came in. So I had an idea that maybe it's dropping the calls when it checks for e-mail. Which makes sense that all of my long calls drop as it's going to check for e-mail every 15 minutes. And most of my incoming calls drop which makes sense that if the phone hasn't been checking and gets "woken up" by an incoming call it's going to check right away. So many of my incoming calls drop right in the first few seconds.
Of course the way to test that is to set my e-mail to manually check only. This really really blows, I only remember to fetch my e-mail a couple of times a day and I have so many that I don't want to deal with them so they pile up on me. However, I haven't dropped a single call since. It's been about a week now and not a single dropped call.
I wasn't able to find any references to this behaviour. Anyone else hear about this? How do we make apple aware of this??? Obviously it's a bandaid - I've gotten call reliability back at the expense of practically throwing my e-mail out the window but at least I'm not going to chuck the phone out the window now.
Well I might for internet access... Safari crashes are driving me nuts too...

  • Has anyone else had problems with severe dropped calls since updating to IOS 5.1?

I have just updated my phone today and have had nothing but dropped calls.  I thought this update was supposed to make my AT&T connection better.  What's going on Apple????

Ever since I updated to iOS 5.1 my connection has dropped down to what I was getting with my older iPhone 3g. With Apple eliminating the rollback option my feeling is that we are SOL until the powers to be determine that we are not (a) crazy (b) stupid or (c) unable to realize that the phones have always performed this way.
All nthis grief for marginal, at best, benefits

  • I updated my iphone5 to the 6.1.2 OS and now I am having trouble when connecting my iphone5 to the USB port, I am not getting any funtionality from my steering controls, and the phone book only show the most recent calls, not the entire phonebook.

Help, is anyone having trouble when they plug their iphone in through the USB connection wit the controls on the steering wheel not working to operate the music and phone book?

    Bump and update
iphone 5 -  speaker phone and headset work properly.  Cannot hear through ear speaker and callers on other end are saying they cannot hear me.
I Have heard about hearing aid mode I set that to on and there was no change.
ALso tried inserting headphone jack in and out several times no use
any help would be greatly appreciated please and thank you.

  • Is it possible to get a log of the Face Time calls?

I use Face Time on my iPhone 5. When you check the logs on the Face Time app on the phone, you can only see the most recent calls and duration. Is it possible to get find the log over a much longer time period, like a month? Is there any place where I can find it?

I'm afraid there is only the "most recent" list. Since the calls are mostly placed via Wi-Fi, your carrier can't record the dialed numbers either.

  • Dropped calls ios 6

My wife and son have been experiencing a lot of dropped calls since upgrading to IOS 6 though my other son and I are fine.  Problem devices are iPhone 3GS & 4S/64Gig.  OK devices are both 4S/16Gig.  Has anyone else had an issue?  Recomendations?  I'm thinking I should reinstall the OS.

Sounds like an excellent idea.  And remember to retore as a NEW device, NOT using your backup, which would potentially re-load corrupt software and data.

  • HT1444 Upgrading from 10.5.8 to 10.6 (or later) which later version makes the most sense?

For work-related remote-access using Citrix, I will need to upgrade from V10.5.8 to V10.6 (or a later version).  Which new version would make the most sense?

Since it's a 10.5 era issued machine and rather dated, the best OS X version is 10.6.3 via the white retail disks, call Apple Sales by phone and order it for $29.
10.6 will run your presently installed 10.5 software as 10.7 or 10.8 will not. Also 10.7 or 10.8 will slow your machine down to a crawl, so it doesn't make much sense to go there.
Since your machine is getting long in the tooth, it's got not that much longer to go, I would be considering a newer 10.8 or 10.9 machine (next summer) and ease yourself into in.
So 10.6 now, 10.8 or 10.9 on a new machine later.
Don't upgrade to 10.8 and don't worry about it, over 50% of OS X users are on 10.6 currently, (30% on 10.7) and about 5% on 10.8 just released.
Things to consider before upgrading OS X
Back up only your personal info off the machine to a external storage drive (not TimeMachine!), disconnet it. Stick the 10.6.3 disk in and run the updater.
    Most commonly used backup methods
If you need to wipe and install, (like if you have problems because your 10.5 is funkyed up)
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
Install your programs from fresh original sources and last hook up your storage drive and return files into same named accounts.

  • Sleep Lock & Dropped calls

My IPhone 3 has a major issue with dropped calls or when I disconnect a call it automatically goes into sleep lock. My wireless provider is AT&T and according to them there is 'moderate' 3G coverage in my area yet at most I consistently get 1 bar signal strength @ the 3G level. The 2G level is stronger and less of a problem vs. the 3G yet still have the same dropped calls issue. Now I just got a a new warranty replacement phone then downloaded the latest update from Apple and this phone has exact same problems as the first phone. AT&T even authorized a new SIMS card for the 2nd phone and still the same problem. Bought a Jabra Stone and guess what? As soon as I use it, the call gets dropped.
Anyone else having the same issues or suggestions? Tks.

I would go through the standard troubleshooting steps:
    Restart
    Reset
    Restore
    Restore as new phone
    Replace SIM
Make appointment at Genius Bar if all of the above fails

  • My iphone4 is dropping calls every day.

Has anyone found a solution to the iphone4 dropping calls??

I never had dropped calls and as far as I know there is no general issue with dropped calls
maybe the antenna connection inside your phone is damaged and have a poor connection
maybe you live in a place where the sensitiveness of the antenna is not good enough to provide stable connection

We have had Verizon Wireless service since 2007. We have 6 lines on our account. Unfortunately in 2012 when I (903.647.0073) upgraded from the iPhone4s to the iPhone 5 I started having reception problems. I started having dropped calls in my home. I had to go outside to get reception without dropped calls. I was told that because of metal in my home I would have to purchase a Network Extender for $250. And we HAVE not metal in our home. AND our other lines all work fine. I felt this was ridiculous. We already pay $350+/month for service and I should NOT have to purchase additional equipment for a service that I already pay for. The manager of our local store at the time gave us at no cost a Samsung Network Extender. It worked beautifully until about a month ago. I went to our local Verizon store and was told that I would have to purchase an extender. THIS is RIDICULOUS. We have been loyal customers for over 7 years and have been very satisfied with our service. Unless this issue can be resolved without purchasing an extender we will be switching our service as our lines come up for renewal. I regret this as we have been very happy with our service. But we should NOT have to purchase anything extra for one line that will not get good reception. Again, we pay $350+/ month for a service that does not work properly, simply RIDICULOUS! Currently the "sys" light flashes red (slow) and the GPS light remains red. Please help this very frustrated customer.

Regardless with what carrier your with you might have the same issue, My recommendation would be to get a router that will help you with viewing live traffic and keep a tally of your usage and any device connected to your internet connection.  You can go with the peplink balance 20 and be able to look at your traffic by the hour, daily, weekly, monthly or yearly.  Look for trends, see what computers or devices are doing what I attached a screen shot so you can see an example of mine.  You can purchase the router at 3gstore
