IChat Typing Difficulties

Just recently my iChat has taken to showing the message that I am typing before I send the message.
ex. I may be typing "hey what's up" and while I'm typing that message it will show as "hey -----" or "hey what's -----". I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with changing it back to the way it was.
thanks,
nick

Hi,
Is this in the Bonjour Buddy List Chat window ?
If so, go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts > the Bonjour item in the list on the left and Deselect Send Text as I type on the right.
Other Buddy lists Chats should not be able to do this.

  • IChat connection difficulties, can't connect with IM, audio or video.

OK guys - i started off on iChat having problems logging in with my .mac address, and i found an answer on here that suggested typing it in as an AIM login and that worked ok.
THEN, i could send IM type chats, but it wouldn't connect to video or audio claiming that there was an error, or it never got an answer from the other party.
I ended up removing iChat from the computer and reinstalling it from the Discs that came with the computer (OK, probably a PC habit.. i'm sorry!), and created the account again, only now it won't even connect to an IM chat with someone from my buddy list, as well as the audio/video connection problems too.
The person i'm trying to contact has it up and running fine as they tested with other people. What on earth have i done wrong?

When you reinstalled iChat did you run the 10.5.4combo to bring iChat back up to date.

  • Since this is Halloween, I have a iMac AppleStore/AppleCare horror story...that so far no one even in Apple Corporate Customer Service has been able to address. So who do you call after you've called Apple Corp?

    Oct 21 2013
Hello my experience Apple Service has not been great. Anytime I have had to have something repaired...it has had to go back. Several years ago i had a logic board replaced on a Mac Pro but they forgot to serialize the board... (well?)
Recently I had to take my iMac in (repair # R104249849) The check-in was great after that it was all down hill. I was told by one tech what would be done AND he would call me. I got no call. When I called  to find out what was going on, no one could give me any information...kind of like there was no communication between techs. no one ever called me to come get the iMac so went to the store ( I got tired of trying to getting "no answers" on the phone. It just so happened the iMac had been ready and was "just sitting" in the back running another diagnostic. A week ago the iMac shut down on it's own I got it running again...two days ago one of the fans started running a very LOUD HIGH SPEED yet the computer was not hot.  I wasted almost two hours with Apple Care iChat "typing" my story to only find out that that I would have to call the Apple Store in the morning and re-tell my story again...
When I got a manager on the phone and mentioned I am under some tight deadlines his suggestion was "if it's possible for you to buy a new machine and return it when yours get fixed...(!)" I had a good laugh on that one.
The iMac is there now being there hopefully being repaired.(repair #R10604084)
I got "band aide fix" service when major surgery was needed.
I know computers can cease to function anytime, but I also know that there are two sides to customer service:
    1) Learn to really listen
    2) Do thorough repairs
I have been 100% Apple for over 20 years, does this mean anything to Apple?
    Oct 23
I have spoken to Customer service at Apple Corp. They seem to take this serious.
    Oct 26
I still don't have my computer and after speaking with the tech yesterday morning (who said they would call me before 6:00 PM...I never got a call)
no can tell me when I will get this computer back.
I called Apple Corp Customer service to ask why after all the company "ball dropping" and questionable repair work...simply replace the iMac.
No one there has an answer for this.

Wow, Karan Taneja, you've just embarrassed yourself on a worldwide support forum.  Not only is your post ridiculous and completely inappropriate for a technical support forum, but it also shows your ignorance as to whom you think the audience is.  Apple is not here.  It's users, like you.
If you would have spent half the time actually reading the Terms of Use of this forum that YOU agreed to by signing up to post, as you did composing that usesless, inappropriate post, you (and the rest of us on this forum) would have been much better off.

  • How can I disable a key through software?

A friend of mine spilt water on her keyboard. As a result, her forward slash key frequently spams and makes typing difficult. I used a program to remap the forward slash key to a forward delete key, but that has also caused problems. What I'm looking for is a program that will allow me to completely disable a key.
I should note, I've used KeyRemap4Macbook and I've also developed my own code, which disables the key on Cocoa applications. However, the key still spams on applications like Microsoft Word.
Her Macbook is more than a year old, and she can't afford to buy a new one.
    Any suggestions?

Liquid in a physical keyboard is great trouble. You may worsen state if you continue to use it like this, make the effort to change it. It is not cheap, but may prove cheaper than damage the whole computer.

  • Applets & MySql

    Hello all!
I know this topic has been examined many times before, but I wanted a hint on my application.
I was creating this applet that should connect to a MySql database and then create a list of photo albums to display on the screen.
Obviously I encountered the "java.security.AccessControlException", and quickly googled for some explanation.
Then I discovered that the two possible solutions are:
1- Sign the applet as trusted
2- Create a servlet that asks for that data and provides it to the applet.
I am aware of the securety problems that I undergo choosing the option #1, nevertheless I just wanted to see if it worked.
My problem is that I don't really know which files are to sign, because I did use the keytool on the applet class, but then I don't know what to do!
Talking about the second option, I would like to know if the concept I have in mind is right: is it possible to create a servlet that creates the "Album" objects and returns them to the applet?
thanks in advance to who can answer my questions!

Hi Dr Zoidberg (is that really you? Don't your pincers make typing difficult?)
If you have an applet that connects to a database, that suggests that you have a client/server application that could end up being distributed far and wide.
In my view, a better approach than having the applet try to connect to MySQL is to have it interact with a server (or a servlet, to be more precise, since we are all talking Java here) and have the server interact with MySQL.
This will make for a more robust, scalable and secure solution, without the need to worry about security implications for your applet.
So, in short: option 2 is by far your best bet!
    Chris.

  • My trackpad is overly sensitive?

Over a week or so, my trackpad for my iMac has been overly sensitive. It will click randomly even with a tap on the track pad (i went into settings and made sure the tap setting was off), it will highlight randomly, the list goes on and on. It makes browsing and typing difficult. Is there any way to solve it? I also made sure that my trackpad is clean and i was not accidently putting another finger on it.

If your Mac remains within its warranty period (one year in the US / three years with AppleCare) definitely bring the MTP to Apple for evaluation. Make a Genius Bar reservation: http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
There have been very rare anecdotal reports implicating wireless interference as the cause of erratic or unreliable operation. If the MTP works reliably for you on another Mac or in the Apple Store, then consider other wireless devices in your home that may be contributing to the problem.
Poor power quality from your electric utility, inadequate wiring - in particular, missing or inadequate grounding, or power anomalies caused by other electrical appliances in your home can also cause the symptoms you describe.

  • IChat not displaying correct  typed characters

Just installed 10.6, now iChat messages are displayed in upper case all the time.
They appear correct in the typing bar but when the message is sent they are all caps. And when I type in a cap, I get fractions, and other symbols when it's displayed in the chat window.
It's as if it using an optional keyboard layout.
    Typing QWERTYU displays QfiERTffiU.
    Typing ZXCVBN displays fflflCffB1/3.
When I try to copy the bizzare text and paste it here it pastes properly, meaning the original text I typed. It only displays incorrectly in the iChat window.
    Any ideas?

  • IChat chat window creates strange white bar in chat box when typing.

I made a topic about this before, but it was archived and not able to reply.
I wanted to include an image of the glitch. Here is a link to it.
    http://imgur.com/2YQd0.jpg
This is not an original screen shot, just a very close photoshopped version of it. Which looks exactly like what happens.
As you can see, there is a white bar that appears in iChat chat window after it gets a scroll bar. It appears for me after I type something (so the "..." bubble appears), then delete all of it (so the "..." bubble disappears). After the "..." bubble disappears, this is when I get this white bar at the bottom of the chat window, which disappears in a split second, almost like a flash.
I know this problem is really small, but it never existed in the pervious version of iChat. And the flashing white bar bothers me!! haha. Please fix this Apple! :P

This issue seems to happen regardless of other windows open. I tried resizing the box, I do not see any white. My background image tiles itself. Without a background, you will just have white anyway, so the white bar, if it does appear, is not visible by eye.
After replicating this issue myself again, I noticed this... The person you are chatting with must of responded at least once. Also, you must delete all the text you typed in the text area, not some of it. (You have to make your "..." bubble disappear from the chat window by deleting all of what you just typed.) Once your "..." bubble goes away, it is then where you see the white bar appear over where your "..." bubble just was. And it almost slides/pans down within the chat window.
Also I just noticed, that my whole background slides/pans downward with the white box. As the white box appears, it literally pushes my background image up and then it slides back into place as the white bar slides down and disappears.
By the way, this never happened on OSX 10.4 Tiger's version of iChat. I also believe it did not happen with Leopard as well, but I would have to check with that. But from what I've seen, this is definitely an issue that appeared in the newer version(s) of iChat.
I have recorded a video of the problem so you can see it in action. It should help explain what I just wrote. Here's the link. http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=20gd4hv&s=6
Right now it's to the point where I'm just curious to why it is happening. But I would like to see it go away.

  • See the other person typing in iChat

Why can't I see when some people are typing a message to me, but I can see most people typing a message to me? It's helpful to see everybody so you don't close the window while someone is responding to you

    Hi,
If this happens to be with a Buddy List that Logs in to AIM it can be about the "Client" or App that they are using at their end.
Not all Apps or Clients as they are sometimes called can send the info that the person is typing.
AT the same time that is not to say that the Sender is not having problems with their end.
It is unlikely to be your end if some are seen typing and some are not.

  • IChat Lion Sends Message while I'm typing...

First off, I used to have ChatX on my iChat before I updated to Lion.
Now that I updated, while I am typing a message, say, "How are you?"
While I am typing it out, bits and pieces get sent automatically when I don't even finish typing it and hit ENTER key.
It looks like this in the chat window:
    How are
    How are you
    How are you?
It's like every 2 seconds someone is hitting an imaginery ENTER key and the message gets sent through.
    Any help would be apprecaited

    Hi,
Go to the iChat > Preferences > Accounts.
    Highlight the Bonjour one.
Disable the Send as I Type option.
For some reason the Yahoo Account can "See" this setting and uses it
(AIM on the PC app have "Real Time" that is supposed to do the same thing but it does not work to iChat and iChat does not do it to AIM on PC Buddies)

  • ICHAT disconnects while typing a chat

A buddy appears and I'll start chatting with them. While I'm typing a phrase to send, before I even hit send, iChat disconnects and I am also disconnected from my DSL. This only happens while actually typing in a chat, it does not shut down when the iChat window is open but nobody is chatting with me. Only when I am typing does it disconnect. It just started happening one day. iChat always worked fine in the past. This disconnection problem does not happen in any other situation other than iChat. Any advice?

    No problem.
    Glad it helped.

  • Ichat was hiccuping when typing and i fixed it like this

turns out i had to many names in my ichat (ten years of aim/ichat) and everytime someone would log in or out and ichat would rearrange the names (normal behaviour) my typing in the chat window would hiccup or pause... was driving me nuts so... i created a new account with only the 10 or so people i actually talk to... in the process i learned that while i have BOTH buddy lists open on my desktop i can simply scroll down through the old list and drag over the people i want to add... made making a new list SO easy
just thought i would share this.

    Hi,
    As a note.
The AIM Buddy lists used to be limited to 200 Buddies before you could not add any more.
I have heard the Buddy list can now be 600 names but have never had my own list that high.
You can delete a Buddy in iChat by highlighting the name and using the Backspace Key and saying yes to the Confirm message.
Holding the Shift key and clicking two Buddies on the Buddy List will include all those i8n between.
Clicking on different Buddies whilst holding down the Apple Key will highlight only those Clicked on.
These two methods allow you delete buddies en masse if needed.

  • How do I disable the typing thought bubble in iChat for AIM?

I have Mac OS X 10.7.1 along with iChat 6.0.  When chatting with AIM my buddy can see when I begin to type via the ... bubble .  How can I disable my buddies from seeing when I begin to type?
If not iChat needs to be updated with this feature in the next version.

    Hi,
This thread just goes to prove you can't please all of the people all of the time.
(Most people notice that their thought bubbles stop working and want to fix it)
As the info comes from AIM I am not sure it would be that easy to have a setting to Disable it.
Having said that I have just checked my very old AIM for Mac version 4.7 (the last in the previous numbering system) and it does have an option to "Disable People seeing I am typing".  (Or very close wording to that)
Use this Feedback page for Wish List stuff.

  • Ichat difficulties

me and my friend just got macbooks and we have been trying to do a video chat but it doesnt work. i think its either my router or his router.... i have a netgear and i believe he has a dell. we have both been using our aim accounts on ichat. anybody have any ideas?

    Hi Toeknee456:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you opened the proper ports in the routers and fowarded them to your local ip address? http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page3.html
This will also help: http://www.portforward.com, except, foward the following ports (there is an error on the port forward set-up instructions) 5060, 5190, 5297, 5298, 5353, and 5678.
Then try testing with a user with no known issues: http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/ContactTesters.html
