Icloud merged my contacts & calander from 2 different phones.

me and my wife have an iPhone 4 each, and we only have 1 iTunes ID that we share. Yesterday when I updated to the new IOS 5 the iCloud system merged the contacts & calander from both phones.
Is this because we both have the same ID for iCloud? if so how do I create a separte ID for her iCloud so that our phones won't sync with eachother?

To stop this, don't use the same Apple ID on both phones for iMessage and FaceTime. (You can continue to use the same ID for iTunes; it doesn't need to be the same as the ID used for iMessage or FaceTime.)
On one of the phones, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID. Then do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

Once you merge contacts with iCloud or any back up for that matter, it will be merged until you go through and decifer which contacts you would like to keep.

Right, I finally managed to get it sorted out.
iCloud only accept version 3.0 vcards, and the one I was using were version 2.1 so that's why it wasn't picking it up. So the easy way to get that sorted out is, use a gmail account.
I know you don't wanna do it because you think it's too much hassle and stuff, but trust me it only takes 5 minutes and that's it.
1. Create a Gmail Account.
2. Export your Old VCard files to the Gmail Account.
3. Now Import them from Gmail to your PC again.
And, that's it, that's just makes the new imported version in 1 file contains your all contacts in version 3.0. Now you can just upload that on icloud and then sync it with your iphone.
That's what I did and it worked, and I am sure if you wanna replace this file in the Contacts folder under your User Account in Windows and then try to sync Contacts in Tunes, it should work, but as I said, I did it with iCloud and it worked for me. So aye, that's pretty much it. Phewwww..
Been searching for it for the whole day and it took 5 minutes in the end, badass...
Anyway, don't lose hope and always Google for everything!

I broke my old phone a few days ago, and my phone number doesn't have an upgrade until the summer of next year. There are 2 issues here.
Some carriers REQUIRE a data plan in order to use an iPhone on their network. This requirement will vary from carrier to carrier. The iPhone is designed to be constantly connected. If you do not manually go in and turn off cellular data (not just 3G) The phone will attempt to connect to the Internet over the cellular data network. If you have your carrier specifically block these requests, you shouldn't be charged for them. If not, it could end up costing you lots of money you didn't expect. The other thing that will happen is things like visual voicemail will not work (if the carrier supports it to begin with) and you will get lots of messages about not being able to connect to cellular data if you're not in range of WiFi you can connect to. MMS messaging also will not work.
The second issue surrounds the statement: "use the iphone 4 with a standard cdma phone plan".
It is NOT possible to purchase an unlocked CDMA iPhone. ALL CDMA iPhones are locked to Verizon.

You'll have to do another restore from the old phone backup. But before doing that, tell us what was not restored. For example is it just photos that didn't get restored? If so, that seems to be a common problem for many users, judging by the posts left in the forum. There doesn't seem to be a solution to that problem (other then to tell users to ALWAYS sync photos to a computer and never trust an iCloud backup/restore to save photos.

Thanks for using our forums! While there are ways to get contacts from your phone onto your tablet, the Convoy series of phones is not capable of syncing directly with the Verizon Messages service. It is capable of using the Backup Assistant service. You'll find this option under Contacts in the menu. Once you have backed up the contacts, you can use your online My Verizon account to export contacts to either a Google or iCloud account, which would allow you to access them from your iPad at a later time via sync. Here's a link with some useful information on how to use the Backup Assistant service.

Either backup the contacts in iCloud or with a compatible programme on your computer (Outlook, Windows Contacts, Address Book etc).
Once done, sync the contacts to your new iPhone from that programme/iCloud.

I have tried to install an updated vesion of my MS Outlook contacts list on the I-phone. But instead of getting a new list, I get duplicates of all the existing contacts. I need a way to either remove and replace the contact list or to get I-Tunes to eliminate the duplicates.

Got following situation:
iPhone A - iTunes Store (Apple-ID) account = [email protected] / iCloud account = [email protected]
iPhone B - iTunes Store (Apple-ID) account = [email protected] / iCloud account = [email protected]
Somehow all contacts in iPhone B disappeared and appeared on iPhone A (together with the ones already existing).
My questions:
what's the cause of this?
how do I get back (iPhone A with only its original contacts, iPhone B with the "disappeared" contacts)?
After I will have put everything back as it was a couple of days ago, I'd change the iCloud email for iPhone A, so that it doesn't match the Apple-ID anymore: do you think this might help?

Thanks for your reply. Somehow after logging into the iCloud account of "iPhone B", the contacts reappered on the iPhone B itself!!! Weird!
Now, I'd still like to do the change for "iPhone A" and move the iCloud login/account away from the Apple-ID: is this achieved by simply disabling iCloud sync and re-enabling it with a different email address? What about the "old" data which would remain on iCloud? Any way to do a "clean" migration here?

Uploading Contacts/Calander FROM the ipod

Hi all,
Hoping someone can help me, been looking at the posts but can't find one that totally answers my question.
I have backed up all my contact and calander details to my ipod regularlly, though the other day I foolishly deleted them from ical and my phone in one foul isync swoop (thinking "whats the worst that can happen!!!). The contacts are on the mac still but... now the only copy of my meetings/social life/holidays (ical) on my ipod.
I have itunes set to auto update so don't want to plug in the ipod and see what happens (through fear it will update from the computer to the ipod rather than realise the ipod has all the info on and update the Mac) I saw a thread saying if you open the pref window of itunes then it will stop any sync'ing and auto updating to the ipod on a PC and wondered whether this was true for a Mac as well. Obviously I need a failsafe way that ensures I don't loose any data that currently exists on the ipod.
Anyone know of a way? Or am I going to have to re-type my whole life from the ipod???

Enable disk use on your iPod, then look for your iPod in My computer, Double click iPod icon, Go into the DCIM folder on your iPod and all your photo's will be in there!
