IControl issue--I don't have iControl...

I am very new to Logic (9.1.6) but I am loving it so far.  I am having one weird little issue that I didn't see addressed when I searched.  I was getting a dialog box on opening Logic that said the input for my iControl was not longer available--I don't have an iControl so I thought that was odd.  Originally my setup included a Motu MicroLite MIDI i/o box and a Line6 StudioPOD UX2 but I switched this and started using my Motu Ultralite instead and didn't need the additional MIDI i/o.  I am not sure if that is relevant but I thought this may be why it is telling me that an input is no longer available--although I assume that iControl is USB.  ?  I went into the Control Surfaces dialog box and deleted the iControl but it would just pop back up the next time I launched Logic and the error would come up again.  I figured that having the iControl there doing nothing (because it doesn't exist) isn't the end of the world but I didn't like the error message so I changed the Input and Output assignments for the iControl and that seemed to help for awhile but now Logic is showing that I have TWO iControls.  I guess I am just wondering if this is a known issue and/or if there is some way to permanently remove the iControls so that they don't pop up and multiply in the future--or should I just buy an iControl?

I may have answered my own question.  I was attempting to install the ProTransport server to use my iPhone as a remote transport.  While I was working on installing a Mackie Control for that I noticed the Automatic Installation option was selected under Logic/Preferences/Control Surfaces/Setup/New.  I deselected that and deleted the iControls.  When I re-selected Automatic Installation an fresh iControl popped up so I repeated the process of deselecting and deleting the new iControl and I have restarted a few times and no new iControl.  This doesn't explain why it was setting up an iControl automatically but it does seem to prevent it from happening.

  • 10.5.7 sleep issues, I don't have ethernet, that's not the problem

I'm not that computer savvy so please simplify your answers and solutions to my problem. I know that my problems have to do with 10.5.7 because they started after I downloaded the update. My computer needs to be rebooted every other time I shut the lid to let it sleep because it won't go into sleep mode. I've done the thing where I hold down control, command, p and r (or whatever it is, I did it right). I fixed my airport so that it would disconnect whenever my computer goes to sleep (I don't use ethernet, that's not the problem). What other solution is there to this problem? How can I remove the update? Please only offer new suggestions, not the two above that I already tried. Hopefully someone can explain this to me in a way I can understand and give some good suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Before I move on to the more complicated suggestion, I wanted to ask about Disk Repair. I opened up the Disk Repair and I verified the hard drive and there weren't any problems.
You mean Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder)? Did you run the +Verify Disk+ (not permissions) option, or did you look at the bottom where it says *S.M.A.R.T. status: Verified?*
If you didn't run +Verify Disk,+ do that first. If it finds errors, you'll have to boot from your Leopard Install disc to repair them (you can't repair the disk you're running from). Post back if you need to do this but don't know how.
But when I tried to verify the permissions it said there was less than one minute left and the little status bar didn't move past half way so eventually I just had to stop the verifications.
Assuming you ran +Verify Disk+ and it showed no problems, how long did you let +Verify Permissions+ run? It does take quite a while on Leopard; 20 minutes or more, depending on your Mac, how much is on it, etc.
By the way, it's a waste of time to run +Verify Permissions.+ Run +Repair Permissions+ instead.
Can you also sort of simplify the second suggestion about the combo update?
This is a combination (thus the clever name) of all the updates to Leopard since it was first released. Installing it should fix anything that went wrong with any previous "point" update. Download and info are at: http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_7_ComboUpdate
Once it's downloaded, back-up your Mac if you can, then:
    1. Disconnect everything except your Keyboard and mouse.
    2. Repair permissions if you didn't above.
    3. Double-click the downloaded file to install it.
    4. After your Mac reboots normally, run Repair Permissions again.

  • When I click on a file to view in Finder in the view as columns, Finder stops responding.  If I use Finder in any of the other views, I don't have an issue.

When I go to finder and view as columns so that the right column will open a preview of the file, I get the endless spinning graphic and when I go to Force Quit, it shows that Finder has stopped responding.  When I use Finder in any other view mode, I don't have that issue.  This just started today.  As far as I know, I haven't done any updates today that would cause the issue.  I've restarted a few times.  I'm running 10.10 on iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011).  I when to updates in the App Store and saw there was an update for 10.10.1 and tried to run it twice now.  It starts to install and says I have 7 minutes left and then at about 3 minutes, it just opens all my windows again and acts normally.  When I go to "About this mac", I'm still showing 10.10 as the OS.  Also, in the App Store, when I click on updates, it shows me 4 updates that I've already installed as ready to install.  Not really sure what's going on nor why all the sudden this is an issue, but I use the preview mode in Finder all the time so I would love a fix for this.  I've tried logging out and logging in as another user and the same issue with Finder happens with other users as well.  I've emptied my trash bin as well.

Step one is to log into a newly created admin user account and see if the problem persists.

I can't seem to get my iMac (late 2009 model) into automatic sleep mode.  If I manually put it into sleep I don't have any issues.
I used to solve the issue by running "PleaseSleep" application but that doesn't work anymore since Lion. I now want to fix the underlying problem.
I'm not running any weird background processes and in my energy saver settings I've tagged "put the hard disk to sleep when possible:, "allow power button to put computer to sleep" and "automatically reduce brigthness". All pretty standard.
Is there anyone who can give me some pointers ?

Today I solved the same problem for my iMac running Snow Leopard. See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3008791#15947706. The method may help you, too.
For me it was the DynDNS Updater preventing my iMac from automatically entering sleep mode.
To my knowledge the cause of this sleep problem can only be a peripheral device or a process. So I suggest to first unplug all peripherals and test whether that's the cause. If not, I suggest to terminate one process after another and to test automatic entering of sleep mode after each. Start with user processes; continue with system process if necessary.
At least that's the way I found the offending process. Fortunately, I was able to change the configuration of that process to allow again automatic entering of sleep mode.
    Good luck!

  • External Hard Drive "You don't have permission" intermittent issue

    Hi -
We have three iMacs that are networked using Airport Extreme.  Computer 'A' has an external USB hard drive plugged in to it.  I have "file sharing" turned on, and using "get info", I have shared the external hard drive with Computer 'B' and Computer 'C'.  Most of the time, opening or saving files to the shared hard drive works without any problems, but occasionally (perhaps twice a day) any of the three computers will display an error message that says "You don't have permission" to save, or open or do anything with a file.  It can happen on any of the three computers at any time with any file.
In the "Sharing and Permissions" portion of a "get info" window for the shared hard drive, it correctly says "dougshaffer (Me)" and "everyone" have "Read & Write" privileges.  To fix the problem, I have to unlock the drive, click the gear wheel and choose 'Apple to enclosed items...".  This solves the problem temporarily but it will certainly happen again later.
Also, every time I have to go through this process, I have to re-check the "Ignore ownership on this volume" check box.  It will not stay checked even with the lock ON.
I have searched for this issue but can't seem to find a solution.  FYI, this has happened with two different hard drives.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks -
    Doug

It may depend on the plugin that is loaded into your browser. However, right click on a PDF and select the Open With option and go to the default button to select Acrobat as the default. That might do it.

    Question
I have one problem and I think it is a settings issue. When I google the web I get results. Now, I visited some website and then I want to return to my search results and pick another search result. And there is a problem: I don't have any markers (diffrent link colour for visited sites in IE) that would help me to distinguish visited and not visited sites.

Why start a new and very similar thread to your other one which you have not responded to (have you read the replies?)
I suggest that no response is made to this duplicate thread.

If you are unable to view content that has already been downloaded then you problem is within you device.  First shut it down all the way by holiding the sleep button at the top until the power off slide appears at the top of your screen. Then slide that and wait while it powers off. Give it a good 30 seconds to do this.  then power it back up. if that doesn't work, you may need to call the apple care folks. One other option is to restore it to factory settings and reload it with the updates first and then sink your media to it. You should already have it backed up to iCloud, but if not, do that first then do the restore.

  • Issue Migrating iTunes Library to NAS - ... you don't have permission...

I have set up a Buffalo Linkstation Duo Nas with 2TB of usable space (4TB Raid 1) on my home network and it seems to be working fine.
I created a Share folder for Video (which I don't use with iTunes) and another for iTunes Media.
The 600GB of Video that I had on my Mac Pro transferred over just fine, but I am having trouble migrating my iTunes Media over.
According to some posts I've read, the best way to do so is to point iTunes to the new disk in Preferences, then and then do a:
    File>Library>Organize Library>tick Consolidate Files>OK
This was going smoothly until about a half hour (5GB) into the transfer (of ~200GB) and I got an error dialog that says:
"Copying files failed, because you don't have permission to change your iTunes Media Folder or a folder within it."
(the comma is iTunes' typo, not mine)
It doesn't say whether the issue is with the new iTunes Media Folder or the original one.
After using Get Info to check the permissions on the iTunes Media Folder and all the folders immediately inside of it, they all seemed to be read/writable by me.
I ran a Permissions Repair on my main HD with the original iTunes library, but that didn't help.
I can manually copy files to the NAS drive and the shared folder to which I'm attempting place the new iTunes Media Library. So I don't think it is an issue with the NAS.
... and yes, I've tried switching everything off and on.
Would anyone like to take a guess as to what the issue with the permission would be?
    -or-
Can I just manually copy everything over to the NAS and then redirect iTunes to the new folder?
Judging by what did transfer over to the NAS, iTunes seems to be reorganizing a few of the folders and things so it would be nice to let iTunes do the migrating... but... whatever works is fine.

    Solved independently.
I had some videos that were not being managed by iTunes on an external drive which had screwy permissions.... so it wasn't the iTunes Media Folder that was the permission issue, but the oddball folder on a faulty drive.
I removed the offending videos from iTunes and tried again. The entire library consolidated nicely onto the NAS drive (took 18 hrs. though)
Now I just need to figure out the best way to share that library with all the computers on the network. From what I've been reading, it is not as simple as just pointing all the Macs' iTunes to the iTunes Folder on the NAS drive - There are artwork issues and problems with using the same Library simultaneously between Macs.
.... But that's for another discussion.

  • TS1503 iTunes keeps telling me I don't have enough space to sync the songs and it clearly says 3 GB free and yet it won't sync. Has anyone had this issue ever? Before a week ago I could fit 900 songs and now I can't fit 300.

Okay guys iTunes keeps telling me I don't have enough space to sync the songs and I know that is BS because it clearly says 3 GB free and yet it won't sync. Has anyone had this issue ever? Before a week ago I could fit 900 songs and now I can't fit 300. I know that my phone could fit 800-900 songs and there aren't many apps. There has to be a glitch. Can someone help? Please send me a response if you truly know the answer.

Didn't know an iPhone is capable of "BS"! Impressive.  Do the basic troubleshooting steps described in the User Guide:  Restart, Reset, Restore.

Hi , I want to purchase a product of yours , online (ipad mini 16 wifi) , but i don't have credit card. i can do the payment via debit card , can you kindly guide me through this issue? thanks

    Hi naderanissi
This is just a user - to - user support forum so no one can help you with payments.
The Apple Store accepts different forms of payments in different countries. If you do not have the option to pay with a debit card then you must choose another form of payment.
Try calling Apple at the phone number that appears in your Apple Online Store.

I am unable to set up an iTunes billing account as I don't have an issue number on my card, I have tried just inputting different numbers such as just putting 1 but its not allowing me further!?

Sorry, but you can't. You can only use a credit card issued by a French bank and with a French billing address. Your only solution is going to be to purchase prepaid iTunes cards (there should be several places you can buy them; perhaps FNAC) and use prepaid cards to open the account and purchase.

  • I have a 27 in. iMac with the latest version of Snow Leopard. When Lion comes out, will it be software I purchase and download online? I am trying to prepare for cost and don't have a point of reference, having been a Windows guy until last summer.

I want to know what to expect in terms of moving from one OS to another. Having been a Windows guy until last summer, my only experience is going from one version of Windows to another, which is usually a fairly costly purchase. I will want to go to Lion, but as a retired teacher, my income is fixed. I am not looking for a specific price, I am sure that is unknown, but I would just like to know help Apple does these things so I won't be sadly surprised.

Historically Apple has sold OS X upgrades via DVD media however with the advent of the Mac Apple Store that throws another possibility into the mix. That's about as much as I can say as these forums don't allow us to speculate about future products. As for the cost historically Apple has priced OS X upgrades between $29-$129, the last upgrade (Snow Leopard) was only $29 but that was an exception. Again we cannot speculate on these forums about that. The good news is that Apple is unlike Microsoft which makes OS upgrades expensive and complicated. The choice with OS X is do you want a server version (most users don't need one) or a single computer license. The users that buy server versions tend to have a number of Macs they manage from a server, most consumers don't have this issue.
Keep reading the news, as you know Apple has announced a Summer release for Lion.
Upgrades on OS X are usually very simple. I've upgraded from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard and each transition has been very easy. With any major OS upgrade there are some basic rules to follow, for example always, always, always backup prior to any update. When Lion is released to the general public post again for what to do to prepare or even do a Google search on "How to prepare for OS X upgrade" and you will find a number of articles that will provide some suggestions and valuable insight. You can also re-post here and users will be happy to assist.
