Identify photo file paths
Is there a way to search, either within iPhoto or perhaps by opening one of the library files, to find out the file paths to the photos in your library? I believe I may have imported some photos into iPhoto from another computer on my home network, and this is causing iPhoto to really drag when launching. Any suggestions?
Do you have your library set to copy the photos into the library when you import?
Click to view full size
If so then it wouldn't matter where you imported your photos from.
Event if you were running a "referenced" library it wouldn't matter until you try to use one of those photos and the other computer wasn't online. You'd get a "Can't find source file" warning.

HostOS : Mac OS X
LightRoom version : 4.4
I accidentally moved linked files over the past few years, and just discovered (via "Missing Photos" view) that I have 5,000 missing photos.
I know the master photos are on my hard disk drive ... so, that is the good news.
BUT I do not want to have to click to re-link all 5,000 missing photos one at a time.
Is there a way to programmatically get the list of file paths of those 5,000 missing photos on my MacOSX system -- so that I can write an AppleScript to extract the unique image file name from the full file path extracted from LightRoom, locate the image in Finder, and move it back to the expected file path where Lightroom expects to find it?If most of your reorganization consisted of moving whole folders rather than individual pics, you can quickly relink entire folders, or even folders of folders, rather than individual pics. In the Folders pane on the left, right-click the missing folder and select Find Missing Folder.
If you moved individual files rather than entire folders, then to get a list of the file paths of all the missing files, first do Library > Find All Missing Photos. Then use the ListView plugin to get a list of the photos' file paths into a text file. -
After converting a windows-based Powerpoint 2007 presentation to an Acrobat Pro 9.0 PDF, the file path location of all photos and objects are shown in a dialogue box when the cursor is moved over the image as seen in this screenshot below. How can I stop this from happening and remove this feature on my pdf documents?
I saw that referenced on a forum, but it does not seem to address the issue I am having.
As per Adobe Acrobat X Standard * What’s new, the equivalent to the "Tools > Protection > Remove Hidden Information" utility found in Acrobat X Standard is the same as the "Document > Examine Document" feature in Acrobat Pro 9.0. Those tools seem to cover meta data, book marks, hidden text, and deleted or cropped content, but not the file path listings that appear on images and objects converted from Powerpoint presentations and other MS Office programs.
I have reviewed the settings used while creating a pdf, and have also tried the “Advanced > Preflight tool”, but could not find anything to apply to the issue at hand.
Thus, this issue has not been resolved, but seems like it should be an easy fix that anyone who publishes pdf documents would want to use to publish clean, professional documents without anyone seeing the file path location of every object and image shown in the document on their hard drive. -
What can the file path tell me about a photo?
I am a Police Detective. I used a Cellebrite UFED to dump an Iphone 4. I am interested in a few images on the phone. I'm curious what the file path can tell me about the image. I also noticed that there are two versions of each image, an original and another duplicate photo. Here are the paths of the original photos -
1. "Path: /PhotoStreamsData/1322802356/101APPLE/"
2. "Path: /PhotoStreamsData/1322802356/101APPLE/"
Here are the paths of the dupplicate photos -
1. "Path: /PhotoData/Thumbnails/V2/PhotoStreamsData/1322802356/101APPLE/IMG_1435"
2. "Path: /PhotoData/Thumbnails/V2/PhotoStreamsDAta/1322802356/101APPLE/IMG_1436"
Thanks in advanceYou're not looking at original photos. You're looking at photos streamed to the phone from PhotoStream. They may or may not have been taken on the phone. They may have been taken or saved to another iOS device or to a Mac or PC, or they may have been shared with the owner of the phone.
The thumbnails are (obviously) thumbnails... small versions of photos scaled to view multiple pictures at once for easy navigation.
Basically, the information above tells you absolutely nothing of any value at all. -

Using Lightroom2, I've created a catalog of scanned images of prints taken over the years.
The prints are in folders by year starting at 1964 and ending when I switched over to digital.
There is one additional folder titled "Unknown" in which resides scans of photos that I can't
pin down the year taken.
Photos in the year folder are numbered by date: 1964-01, and so on. Photos in the Unknown folder
are numbered UNK-01, and so on.
As I go through this Unknown date folder, I can sometimes identify the year taken and then move
the image up to the appropriate year folder. This breaks the File Path, though. I can manually delete
the old image with the broken File Path and bring it back in from the year folder, but this is a
cumbersome process with several photos.
Is there any way to move the image from Unknown to the proper year folder AND automatically
change the File Path?
I know I could have used one master folder with all years and just changed the image number,
but prefer the by-year folder.If I understand what you're after, no problem.
Just drag the image to the appropriate year folder, and do the dragging in Lightroom. Once it's in its new home, use Lightroom to rename it. That way LR won't lose track of the image.
Lightroom is designed to organize your images using keywords and collections; using folders and filenames to organize means that you're working harder than you need to. How you choose to work is your business, though.

How do I find a photo file in the Finder + future migration question
Being a recent Mac convert, I am just getting used to the 'complete control' approach to photo management that iPhoto has. I'm used to knowing where my photos physically reside on my computer - this is useful for doing things like uploading photos to a website for example. How do I actually find a particular photo in the Finder (or even give photo files recognisable names, as opposed to whatever automated naming system iPhoto uses)?
A followup question to this is, what happens if I ever want to migrate my photos out of iPhoto one day to another application or even back to a PC (God forbid - just my paranoia about being forced to use a particular system forever kicking in here!) - is there a way to do this, and keep photo modifications etc? Or once I start using iPhoto, have I made my decision for life??
My apologies if this has been asked before, I couldn't find anything in the forum when searching.poddster
I hope you've a notebook and pen, but you've asked a lot of questions:
I'm used to knowing where my photos physically reside on my computer
You photos are stored in the iPhoto Library at your Pictures Folder. This is a Unix style Package Folder that very easy to see inside: right click on it and choose show package contents. A finder window opens with the library exposed.
Here's how the library is laid out:
In this folder there are various files, which are the Library itself and some ancillary files. Then you have three folders
Originals are the photos as they were downloaded from your camera or scanner.
(ii) Modified contains edited pics, shots that you have cropped, rotated or changed in any way.
iPhoto always preserves the original file, all operations are carried out on a copy.
(iii) Data holds the thumbnails the the app needs to show you the photos in the iPhoto Window.
And here's a warning: It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss.
this is useful for doing things like uploading photos to a website for example
No it's not. Don't surf the iPhoto Library. The idea with iPhoto is that you do everything via the iPhoto Window or media browsers:
So, to access pics use one (or more) of the following:
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser. Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
iPhot doesn't name the files, those names are given by your camera. You can add titles in iPhoto and if you use the File -> Export command there's a facility there to name the resulting file (it'll be a copy - remember what I said about all operation being done on a copy...) with the title.
Do not rename files in iPhoto, That comes under the heading of making changes in the iPhoto Library Folder and alters the path to the files. If you do, iPhoto will lose track of the file. But the truth is there's simply no need to. However, you can rename the files before importing them if you like.
Migrating is really easy. You've seen the layout of the Library above. The originals are all there, in the originals folder, the Modified versions in their folder. If you want to have only the most recent versions of pics, then export them from iPhoto to a folder on the desktop.
By all means post back if you need more.

Downloading photo files from an SD card
I know you can use an sd card connector kit to download images to the newè iPads. A few questions:
My sd card has both a raw and jpeg version of each image, but I only want to download the jpegs. Since I believe the iOS doesn't show file extensions, how can I identify just the jpeg images?
Once on the ipad, where are the photos placed?
Can you create separate folders and place certain images in them?
And if you edit an image and save it as a different file, can I place it in a folder I've created?
Finally, after doing this is there any reason that I can't put the card back in the camera to take and add more photos to the card, to again plug into and download to the iPad?You may want to download the pics to your computer where you can identify which are jpg and raw.
Then You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

Dynamic file path problem....
Hello & thanks for your attention
I am trying to modify the action script(2) of a XML photo slideshow
I want to make it pull the photo array from a dynamic XML file
Yet nothing I try seems to be working - I was hoping someone could look at these snippets and tell me if I'm doing something incorrectly
Objective:
To make the swf file - pull its photo array - from a dynamic XML file path
Scenario:
http://www.reallivingtours.com/tours/viewTour.php?id=2092
When that URL is called by a browser
An XML file called 2092.xml is created in a /tmp/ directory
viewTour.php passes the ‘dynamic’ file path to the swf via the params
<param name="movie" value="slideshow.swf?file=tmp/<?php echo $tourID; ?>.xml">
<param name="flashvars" value="&file=tmp/<?php echo $tourID; ?>.xml">
The original AS2:
var xml:XML = new XML();
xml.ignoreWhite = true;
_root.xmlPath == undefined ? xml.load("settings.xml") : xml.load(_root.xmlPath);
The modified AS2 - I've done:
var filePath:String = new String();
filePath =_root.file;
var xml:XML = new XML();
xml.ignoreWhite = true;
_root.xmlPath == undefined ? xml.load(new URLRequest(filePath)) : xml.load(_root.xmlPath);
Can you see anything I'm doing incorrectly?
Thank you very much for your time and attention
BennThanks to webqa - I've gotten a little closer to resolving this
my debugging tells me that i have an undefined error
I'm thinking - xml.load(filePath)
is not recognizing the string as a file path to the XML
Does anyone have any suggestions? thank you
var filePath:String = new String();
filePath =_root.file;
var xml:XML = new XML();
xml.ignoreWhite = true;
_root.xmlPath == undefined ? xml.load(filePath) : xml.load(_root.xmlPath); -
File Path adds %20 where there are spaces
Hi Everyone;
I'm trying to track down a problem.
The file path for Program Files folder in the old version of my app presents C:\Program Files\Folder in the DOS console. And the app works.
However, the new version of the app displays the paths in the DOS console like this C:\Program%20Files\Folder
And I get path not found errors.
One of the difference between the 2 apps is the first is using java 1.3.1.02 the second is using jvm 1.4
Does anyone know if 1.4 will do cause this change to happen ?
stevI have found that the problem was with the java version.
I switched from jre 1.4.1 to java 1.3.1 and the problem is resolved
I however, have not pinpointed exactly where in the code causes this different behavior. but if anyone sees something like this in the future, you might want to double check the different behavior between 1.3 and 1.4.
it could be a simple method etc = i haven't looked in the code to identify the exact problem however, cause this is a 3rd party java app. -
Hi,
Anyone knows if it´s possible to set the file path of an image to it's metadata keyword field using a script in Bridge?
Thank you!maybe with a script, to pickup the path "photos/landscapes/summer/beach/shore.jpg" and put it in the keywords like this "photos;landscapes;summer;beach;shore.jpg"
There is a dedicated Bridge Scripting forum that might have an answer on this:
https://forums.adobe.com/community/bridge/bridge_scripting
But to be honest, you could do a lot of this yourself in a relatively easy way.
You have to know that you can add keywords to multiple files at once just by selecting them.
However, your first goal should be to create your own keyword tree. This is a bit of work and needs good planning but is needed for future use and comfort. You can also use parent and child (keywords and sub keywords) and in Bridge prefs select to auto apply parent keywords for more ease of use (see further on).
You can create your list in Bridge keyword panel by using right mouse click menu and choose keyword or sub keyword. Or use a simple text application, you need to start a new line at the beginning for each main keyword, the next line (use enter) with 1 tab creates a sub keywords, again enter with 2 tabs a sub-sub keyword.
In your case it would mean to create the main keyword landscape, inhere the sub keyword summer, on this again a sub keyword beach, again shore and you are done for this folder.
Now all you have to do is to select the folder shore and select all files, click on the last sub keyword shore to select it and with the correct preferences setting per above all parent keywords beach, summer and landscape are auto selected. You only have to wait for the task to be finished completely (the metadata has to be saved to the files) before starting the next task.
There is no need for jpg as keyword and also not for photo's because all images are photo's and mostly jpeg. otherwise the result of the search could be easily filtered for correct file type.
You can create as many keywords as you like and also many sub keywords. For instance under landscape you can create a new sub keyword for all seasons, just hold the cursor above the parent word and choose new sub keyword. This can also done for beach, you can make it as large as you wish or want.
Be sure to back up your keyword list regularly (use the tiny menu icon top right in keyword panel and chose export) save it with a proper name and open it in a text application to view how it looks when you have several sub keywords.
The benefit of creating first a keyword list is that you can easily select new images with existing keywords instead of creating them again and again.
And it looks far more difficult then it is in reality, just try it and give it a go.
When done you can use the Search command and choose a main folder, include subfolders and non indexed files and for criteria use keyword and fill in the keyword you want to search for. Having written all keywords to the files other applications can search for them also. -
I cant relocate my original files because the file path is missing all together. The path is replaced by a singe dot (.).
This has happend to alot of my pictures. I have tried to both reapir and rebuild the library. Nothing works. Anyone have a ide of whats gone wrong and how to resolve it?
Screen shot:
http://d.pr/i/jMDVIn the screen shot, the path "Volume: Photos/• Digital/Berlin Feb 2012/IMG_1588.CR2" is right, but the original path is the same just that the Volume is "Media".
But still, the "•" in front is puzzling; my locate referenced files screen is looking like this:
No special characters in front of the path - or is the "•" part of the pathname?
Your NAS a network volume, right? The left part of the "Locate Referenced Files" window should show the status of the volume. Does it show as online or offline?
I suspect, that Aperture has problems with special characters in the folder or filenames and cannot interpret the pathes correctly, i.e., if the formatting of your drive is not MacOS X extended. -
File paths and archiving (and referenced files).
I've come to the stage where I need to start using referenced files (out of disk space on my laptop) and also start archiving projects. One of my plans was to start keeping an off-site backup of all the originals in case something really bad happened. I'm also going to have on-site backup of projects. But for the off-site originals I would like to have some simple way of finding the photos in case something bad happens, my idea was to simply create a PDF from the list view where I could see the photo and the file path to where it's stored (I plan to store them in simple year-month-day hierarchy).
The reason why I'm not going to archive the projects off-site is simply the cost, I did a test yesterday and it looks like just storing the originals would be approx 1/3 in size of the projects.
If someone has a better idea of how to handle this please let me knoeI'll try to explain.
About the cost: Hard disk space is really cheap and I can not see how the cost should be that expensive. This is based on your statement that you still have your images on your laptop and that itself limits the amount of space hence a rather small library.
When it comes to backing up your projects you have several options. First, if you really want to be cheap about hard disk space (I think you should not since your images really are priceless) you can export projects of your referenced images and not consolidate the images into the exported project. Not to consolidate vs. consolidate images on export really makes a difference in the exported project size. On the other hand, not consolidate images on export of a project makes you back up your images separately, which leads to more work.
My advice is then; buy two disks (preferable three disks), and export your projects with the images consolidated into one of them and start using the other one with your referenced images.
I always advice users to have their images in at least three different locations and IMHO the ideal solution for you would be to have your images referenced on one disk and mirrored backups on the other two disks, either one stored in two different locations in case of burglary, fire etc.

File Path Visible When I Hover Over Images
Hi,
I converted a PowerPoint document to a PDF. The PowerPoint document includes images (GIF, JPEG). When I hover my cursor over the image in the PDF I created I can see the file path C:\User\User Name\Photo\File Name.JPG.
Is there a setting in the PDF that I can 'unselect' so I don't see the file path when I hover over images?
Thanks,

Dear experts,
in eventlog I find the following information for one of my deduplicated volumes:
Volume: F: (\\?\Volume{9794e270-fb08-487e-979b-8a08fa9ca311}\)
Error code: 0x0
Error message:
Savings rate: 24
Saved space: 853327714684
Volume used space: 2681869406208
Volume free space: 66771247104
Optimized file count: 1199618
In-policy file count: 1188049
Job processed space (bytes): 0
Job elapsed time (seconds): 2
Job throughput (MB/second): 0
Some things look strange to me:
- The savings rate is only 24% which looks odd because I get about 40% on other file shares with similar characteristics.
- The "Optimized file count" is higher than the "in-policy" file count.
- The volume has about 3.5 million files but only 1.1 million files are "in-policy".
My understanding of "in-policy" files is that all files are in-policy which are older than 3 days (if not configured different, which is not the case) and which are not contained in an excluded folder (nothing configured here) and which have no
excluded file extension (nothing configured here apart from the default). Right?
I'm sure that only a small fraction of the files on this volume are younger than three days, so something seems to be wrong there, but I have no idea how to find the cause of the problem.
Is there any way to identify the files (full path) which are considered to be not "in-policy"?
How can I find out if the optimization process really looks at all files - and doesn't skip a million?
Thanks!
Regards
ChristophMandy, thanks for your feedback! I've read these technet articels, but I couldn't learn something really helpfull related to my problem there. To make investigation of the problem easier I did the following:
- created a brand new empty volume (x:) on the same server
- enabled data deduplication on that volume with a minimal file age of 0 days
- copied about 2GB of data from the problem-volume in 15450 files to this new volume
- started "Start-DedupJob x: -Type Optimization -Memory 50"
After a few seconds that job completed and I got the following result:
Volume: X: (\\?\Volume{d1ba9ed8-28f1-44d1-9535-fe603d6a70c6}\)
Error code: 0x0
Error message:
Savings rate: 0
Saved space: 12360718
Volume used space: 3091664896
Volume free space: 7610097664
Optimized file count: 153
In-policy file count: 153
Job processed space (bytes): 46095214
Job elapsed time (seconds): 9
Job throughput (MB/second): 4.88
The question is: why are only 153 files in-policy?
All files (of more than 15000) are of course "older than 0 days", there are no excluded folders configured, there are no excluded extensions configured, no file has one of the default excluded extensions and more than 1000 files are bigger than 100kB
(minimal size for deduplication is 32kB). So what makes only 153 files qualify for deduplication?
My impression is that there are further undocumented requirements which have to be met by a file to qualify for deduplication. But if there's no detailed log of an optimization run available how to find out what's going on?
(Or is something going wrong on my server?)
Kind Regards
Christoph
