IDVD 08 Install

I just bought iLife and after the install process, I tried to open iDVD and the icon bounces, then the project window opens for a split second, then the program shuts down. Has any one else had this problem? I've restarted, reinstalled, and shut down and started my computer again. For iMovie 08, you need a G5 or an Intel Mac, but it said all you need is 700 mhz or better. I have a 1.67 ghz PowerBook.
Thanks

AFAIK, there is no suich thing. There is no listing for iLife in Apple's online store. iPhoto, GarageBand & iMovie can only be obtained through the Mac app store.

Do i have iDVD installed on my computer? If not how do i get it?

Hard to say, not knowing what computer you have, but if it is a new iMac running Lion, then the answer is no.
The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast.

DVD creating. I have OS 10.8.3. w/o IDVD installed. I have a series of Imovies I have edited that I want to make into a DVD with chapters. How do I do this? Do I need a 3rd party software? If so, recommend one for a non-techie. Any pertinent information on how to do this would be much appreciated. Thank you

You can still purchase iDVD in a 2011 iLife package from Amazon.
There's really nothing else that integrates with iMovie as well as iDVD. Apple is no longer shipping or supporting iDVD but it's well worth the investment.

  • How can I get themes from older version of iDVD installed on my new machine?

I recently tried to open an iDVD project that I haven't opened in years. I got the following error Message:
"The Project you chose uses a theme that is not installed. You must install the theme before continuing."
I clicked OK and then a menu popped up saying that I could download the theme(s) via Software Update. So I selected Download now. Software update opened and said it was checking for updates. Then after it was finished it said there was no new software for my computer and closed.
The Project was created using iDVD 4.0.1 on a PowerMac G4 and now I'm trying to open it using iDVD 7.0.4 on an intel iMac . Any help about how to get the correct themes installed would be appreciated. Thanks.

The only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
The iLife 11 disc only provides the themes from iDVD 5 - 7.  None of the updaters available from the Apple Download site contain the earlier themes

  • IDVD install on Mavericks?

    Hi guys,
I haven't been around here for quite a while...
I have a friend who has a MacBook Pro with Mavericks and now he wants to make DVDs to play on his TV; like me. I installed iDVD from an iLife '08 disk and the software had a big line drawn through it. Wouldn't launch. I have an iLife '11 disk that doesn't show iDVD on the back of the box, but seems to have iDVD when I go into customize install. Is this a version that will install and launch? He had to leave, so this is follow-up.
    Thank-you!
    Len

The iLife 11 disk does have iDVD on it.  This version, 7, is compatible with Mavericks.  Also update the iDVD 7 to the last version available, 7.1.2 with the iDVD 7.1.2.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • I have Imovie 11 installed but cannot find IDVD installed anywhere?

Is Idvd part of Imovie11 or do I have to download Idvd separately?

    Hi
You may have bought Your Mac just when Apple decided not to sell or deliver iDVD any more (to a hilarious frustration to most of us users).
    a. Apple do not sell it any more
    b. No it's not included in iLife11 any more (if downloaded from Apple)
    c. One can buy - secondhanded iLife11 boxed/DVD version still including iDVD but they are not so many and price is increasing
    Else
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • How to install iDVD on iMac

I have a MacBook with OS X Lion on it and have iDVD running on it ever since I purchased it in 2009. Recently I bought a 27" iMac with 1TB HD and OS X Lion. I just realised today that it does not have iDVD installed on it and I am quite used to using iDVD to burn all the home videos I make using iMovie. I know that I can use iMovie to burn those movies to disc but I am too used to using iDVD and was wondering how can I get it installed on the iMac?
    1. Can't find it through App Store - I am told Apple does not support it any longer
    2. Can't find it anywhere on the web where I can pay and get it
    3. Will I be able to install it on the iMac from the MacBook Other Applications Install Disc that came with the MacBook?

Your MacBook came with disks for installing the system and bundled software.  You can use the bundled software disk to install iDVD onto your new iMac.
It should looks like one of these, possible like the one for the MacBook Pro in the upper right hand corner of the screenshot:
If you don't have those disks you can purchase the iLife 11 disk from the online Apple Store while supplies last. It will have the latest versons of both iDVD and iWeb, both of which have been discontinued by Apple.

  • IDVD on Lion OS X - Custom Install iLife '09

Since iDVD is no longer offered by Apple as part of the "iLife package" that comes with new Macs running Lion OS X (10.7.x) I was searching for info about custom installing iDVD from an iLife '09 package .  I stumbled across a few threads (including this one) but none that I found clearly outlined how to do it so I thought I'd add this post for folks that follow
The iLife '09 package contains iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb and Garageband.  If you want iDVD you'll need to buy a copy of iLife '09 or a Mac Box Set which includes OS X 10.6, iWork '09 and iLife '09 to get it.
I wanted to install iDVD '09 while avoiding conflicts with iMovie '11, iPhoto '11 and Garageband '11 (and I didn't have use for iWeb '09 since it's no longer supported).
To custom install iDVD '09 from an iLife '09 package disc...
    - Be sure that iPhoto '11, iMovie '11 and Garageband '11 are already installed (available from the Mac App Store if needed).
    - Insert the iLife '09 disc, click "Continue" and for each item in the left-hand menu including "Introduction", "Read Me", "License" and Destination".
    - Let it run the initial application search to determine which applications to install.  (This will allow it to find the newer installations of iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband.)
    - Click "Continue" until you reach the "Installation Type".
    - Click on the "Customize" button.
    - On the next screen select iDVD.  (iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband were appropriately greyed out since they were already installed.)
    - After you've selected iDVD click "Continue" and let it finish.
iDVD installed on my late 2008 iMac and my late 2010 Macbook Air, both running Lion OS X 10.7.3 and works as expected.
Hope this helps anyone that follows!

From what I've read on these forums if you buy iLife 11 as a DVD, Not Download, you get iDVD ?11?.
That's what I thought as well...and it may be possible, but I couldn't track anything definitive down.
An iLife '11 disc isn't available from Apple that I know of.  Amazon offers an "Old Version" of iLife '11 but there's no mention of iDVD.
Apple doesn't mention iDVD on the main iLife page either.  However they do mention it on the iLife '11 iDVD page.  ???  When you click on "iLife '11" it takes you to the Mac App Store where iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband are individually sold...but no iDVD.  So I may be missing something.
My late 2010 Macbook Air came with iLife '11, but not with iDVD.  I've also read on forums that if you do a fresh install of OS X 10.7.x on a Mac that came with iLife '11 that you can contact Apple and somehow get iDVD.  I've also read other posts that say that you can't.  Very confusing.  Perhaps someone will come along with a clear answer.
In any case, I wanted iDVD on my late 2008 iMac (which of course didn't come with Lion), so installing it from my iLife '09 disc did the trick.

  • How to install iDVD on 2011 macs??

I realized that iDVD is not preinstalled on new 2011 mac computers and can't be downloaded from App Store.
I came to the conclusion that I need to find a copy of the iLife 11 Retail DVD to get iDVD installed, right??
But will the install of iLife 11 retail DVD downgrade or effect negativly the already installed iLife package?
The case is that I really need iDVD on my 2011 mac mini..
    Hope anyone can help!

But will the install of iLife 11 retail DVD downgrade or effect negativly the already installed iLife package?
No, iDVD is tested on the latest Macintoshes.
I came to the conclusion that I need to find a copy of the iLife 11 Retail DVD to get iDVD installed, right??
Make a couple of phone calls.
iDVD is a “Must Have".   (Yes, it should be included.)
Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.
    800-692-7753
    800-275-2273
Most people report that by asking here:   http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
    or here:   http://www.apple.com/contact/
they got a free copy of iDVD.
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11 on disk (don't get the download) for about $39.

  • IDVD 4 error on install

Hello everyone. Have a problem that needs solving ASAP. I'm selling my iMac on Ebay and was asked a question by a potential buyer about iLife. Upon researching (I never utilized it beyond iPhoto and iTunes) I realized that iDVD and GarageBand were not installed. Previous owner probably deleted them.
So I attempted to reinstall Garageband and iDVD using the customized install on the original OSX CDs. GarageBand installed fine, but iDVD will not install at all. It starts to, and then gives me a "there was an error during installation" and the only option is to stop installation.
I'm at a loss. I'd like to get iDVD installed to bring it back to it's original configuration but don't know how to go about doing it. The discs themselves are fine... no scratches.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi
    Does Your iMac have a Superdrive (DVD-burner) or a Combo (CD-burner & DVD-reader)
If Combo then iDVD will not install at least to version 5 or may be 6.

  • Help, problem installing iDVD

Yes, I have read other posts on this topic.
I have iLife 9 with iDVD installed with Mountain Lion.  iDVD link to download old themes takes you to blank app store page.  So, was trying to manually install old themes by marking them as favories.  Now iDVD crashes immediatly after launch.
    What I have tried:
--Removed all Favorites themes from Application Support-->Library-->iDVD
    --Reboot
--Downloaded iDVD 7.1.2update from Apple Support and installed
--Deleted iDVD and tried to install iDVD 7.0.1 from Apple Support but will not install unless previous version installed.
--Tried to reinstall iDVD from iLife disk using custom install but iDVD is greyed out.
--Tried to install iDVD from iLife Package but will not let me install packages individually without using installer.
My next thought would be to reinstall old iLife 9 from disk over newer updated copy.  Then I would need to re-download and install software updates for iLife.
Any other suggestions before I nuke iLife?
    Thanks,
    Hotoru
Rant: Why would Apple put iDVD to pasture while it is still the default means to burn DVDs from iMovie?

First, one should not put their emaill address in a post as that offer it up to spiders that toll forums like this looking for emails to spam.  I've asked the Hosts to remove them from your postl
What system are you running?  Liion or Mt. Lion.
    Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • I just bought a new macair laptop and it doens't have idvd and I want to make a DVD slideshow with music.  I have an external CD drive. Is there an applicaation that apple has to do this?  IF I buy a used mac, which ones have idvd?

I have a new macair laptop and it does not have idvd. It has a flashdirve instead, so no internal CD drive though I bought an external one. I'm wanted to make a DVD slide show with music and I was told I can't do that in order to play it on a dvd player. Does Mac have an appication to buy that can do the same thing? I thought I saw one for $39.95 but not sure if it will do this. The apple store did not know for sure. Also, if I bought a used mac laptop, which ones will have the idvd installed on it?
    Thanks,
    Phyllis

It is now apparent that iWeb, and iDVD, will no longer be supported by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
Other users have complained to Apple via Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html and/or http://www.apple.com/contact/ and have received a boxed copy of iLIfe 11.  Give it a try. In the meantime the following maybe of interest:
iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
All of these issues can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
Apple has announced that iLife is now an unsupported product and those iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the boxed iLife 11 at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought. Personally, if I already didn't have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

  • IDVD 08 won't load or open... WHY? please help!

I've tried everything I read on the forums and nothing had worked. I have r=trashed idvd themes 1-4 and the preference file from the harddrive and still nothing. I click on iDVD and the opening window comes up, I can choose any of the options and then it will "Load Themes" for endless amounts of time. I've even left it on or hours and it won't quit, load, give error message, nothing! It will just load themes forever. I can click the file menu and everything will be unavailable (grey), even the Quit option so then all I can do is force quit. Please help. I haven't reset permissions because I don't know what that mean and don't want to mess up my machine.
Anyone with help or who has experienced the same problem please, I really need to get this working.
    Thanks a lot!
    Lizzy

Don't know if this will help but I bought iLife 08 when it first came out and couldn't load it properly. Tried the usual fixes listed here on the forum but tonight I got it to finally load correctly. I followed the Apple fix from late last fall by deleting the iDVD themes 1-4 from the hard drive under Library/Application Support/iDVD themes/DVD 1,2,3 & 4. Then deleted from my home directory Library/Application Support/iDVD/Installed Themes and also Library/Caches/com.apple.idvd. I tried to open iDVD 08 as instructed but just got the themes loading and nothing. Rather than trying to re-install themes 1-4 from the 08 install disc, I quit iDVD and I went to Software update to re-install the old themes and get the updated fix. It took about an hour but after restarting when the update was completed, voila . . iDVD 08 came up perfectly. Hope this may help if all else fails.
