IE 8, Flash 11 erase LSO cookies from Firefox

Running on Windows XP. Since the latest Flash and Explorer combines clearing Temporary Files with Flash cookies, there is no way to prevent cookie deletion -- including those generated by other browsers. This is terrible for shared computers like this one. I do not have the option to create another admin identity. However, because a support person told another user to clear cache on IE (for security reasons), I lost all my Flash cookies (passwords, progress, etc.) on Firefox. No, I cannot get this other user to change browsers. Searching on the internet has found that even *with* administrative access, preventing deletion of Temporary Files is impossible.
I will point out that:
1. ordinary cookies are stored by each respective browser, and were not deleted
2. there is no differentiation in IE menus between temporary files in Temp/Internet Files and the LSO flash cookies
3. with my FF Better Privacy plug-in, I can turn off Firefox auto-erasure of LSOs... and still IE will delete them
Caches need to be cleared a lot, and as long as there's no way for me to separate my LSOs from LSOs generated by a different browser and a different user, even with a password into both browsers, every single time Temporary Files are cleared in IE, I will lose my Flash progress on all sites on Firefox. It's also a huge privacy challenge; what's the point of using separate browsers if I can check the LSO folder and see exactly where the other user has visited, and vice versa?
Any solution in Windows, or Firefox, or Explorer would be appreciated.

I'd recommend using a third party cleaner (such as ccleaner) to allow finer grain control over cache and cookie management.

How does one erase their email from firefox sync or get a regenerated recovery key if they deleted their account info?

I set up a sync account long time ago and lost my recovery key. I read that if you delete your sync account, it would remove all data. I tried to create a new account but I keep getting the error that my email is already being used. Then I read how to regenerate a new recovery key, but I can't complete the task because my account info has been deleted. How is my account deleted and my email is still showing as an active sync account? Is there a way to recover my email with out having to recreate a new sync with a new email address?

Okay, I am thouroughly annoyed right now because, as I mentioned earlier, I had deleted my account and it still wanted to say that my email was active. Going against all means of logic, I used my email to reset my password (which recreated my ability to login), logged in, and deleted my account (again) and that seemed to do the trick. Why didn't it just do that in the first place?
Oh well, at least it is working now.

Getting rid of this damned snap.do is driving me up a wall. Sure hope someone can help. I've run Regedit and eliminated one instance of snap.do. I've deleted the snap.do or snapdo cookies from Firefox many times but the cookies keep coming back.

FLASH PLAYER 11 LSO Privacy vs Storage Persistence of User Data

Any plans in Flash Player 11 for striking a more even balance between:
1) Users for whom Flash LSO a.k.a. cookies, provide crucial cross-session storage of data for Games and Applications; and
2) Users who do NOT want flash cookies at all ?
In the Current Flash Player there is no way for users to White-List or Protect selected websites which rely on Flash cookies for games and applications. Why Not ?
Example:
a) FLASH SETTINGS: After up-incrementing alloted Storage for a given site in the Flash Global or Local Settings Manager, and
b) BROWSER OPTIONS: Favoriting a site, and Placing the site on the Start Menu (MSIE).....
Even after taking the above steps Flash does NOT protect the LSO of the selected site(s) to which storage was granted in the Flash Player settings Panel. The Flash Storage (Cookies, LSOs) are Globally Erased for All Websites and All Browsers on Users Device just by cleaning up Cookies in MSIE for example. Why does Flash Integration with the Browser allow this global erasure after the user has specifically granted a site storage in the "Flash Settings Panel" ?
SUGGESTIONS:
1) In the Desktop Environment allow a user to White-List websites whose Flash Cookies can NOT be deleted by the Browser, and have the Flash API protect the white list even during a global Cookie cleaning.
2) Allow the same 4k minimum storage for Flash Cookies that existing HTML cookies are already allocated without any appearance of the dreaded settings panel.
3) On Mobile phones get the LSO working on the SIM card by default and enable the File Reference Class Export and Import functionality.

I 100% agree! We have an application that the Government requires information to be stored on the users computer as part of Multi-Factor-Authentication. We originally wrote it as a browser application and when everyone and their brother started deleting browser cookies because of security concerns, we totally re-wrote it as a Flash application to take advantage of permanent storage. This new "feature" in Flash Player is causing much concern because thousands of users will need to start answering security questions every single time they use the application and our staff is having to handle technical support questions that shouldn't exist. Right now it's only IE that's causing the issue, but I'm sure every Internet Security program will soon be adding this to their products. There should at least be a way for the USER to white-list a specific URL or Domain so Flash could exempt those sites from ANY external program trying to delete ALL Shared Objects/Local Storage/Flash Cookies. A secondary option could be a check box to totally exempt SO deletion via the API, so the USER can make it work like it did before this update. In all cases, it should be a choice the USER makes. This would satisfy the extra privacy you are putting in there.

How do you stop unauthorized cookies from appearing in Safari?

I'm using Safari 5.1.10 and system 10.6.8. I've gotten all the security downloads available, but I seem to having issues with unauthorized cookies appearing. These seem to appear even though I've not visited their websites, and have Safari set to accept cookies from only sites I've visited.
After going to Preferences:Privacy: remove all website data: then remove all cookies,
If I just wait a few minutes, I get 72 website cookies restored to my computer, without doing anything. These include cookies from google, alibaba, 2mdn.net, facebook, microsoft, oracle and many more. Some of these declare they are using local storage, others the catch, while others just declare themselves as cookies.
These appear in spite of the fact that I have the preferences set to block cookies from third party advertizers, set Extensions to OFF, but have Javascript enabled, and allow Java, but deny all other plug-ins.
If I unclick the allow Java button in Preferences:security, then 11 of these cookies sneek back in, but the others seem to be blocked. Those that come back include Alibaba, apple, google-analytics, "local documents on my computer", machine-seeker, wikipedia, and a few others.
If I disable JavaScript in Preferences:Security, now I get only cookies from sites I've visited, as I'm supposed to, according to the settings in my Safari preferences.
So it seems that some unscrupulous information collectors are collecting data even when the Safari settings should prohibit it. Unfortunately, some of the sites I visit ( Like Apple support communities) require that Javascript be enabled, so I don't know how to stop this.
The problem is that I've found these unwarrented cookies appear to slow down my internet connection speeds by ~ 95% ( Try removing them and disabling Javascript to see what happens) in addition to it being an invasion of my privacy. In addition, it really bothers me that some of these sites are storing local documents on my computer without permission.
As I've said, I've already installed ALL the pertinent security updates. Does anybody have any idea how to stop this from happening? I presume this is also happening on my iphone and ipad as well, but haven't checked.
I see that Safari was sued by Apple in 2012 for doing just this same thing, but they appear to be up to their old tricks, as well as many other companies.

I've investigated this phenomena of UNauthorized Cookies a bit more in the past few days and found their cause and uses goes very deep down the internet rabbit hole. While most browsers allow the user to delete cookies, or to block cookies from third parties, third parties may place cookies or "cookie equivalents" on your computer through a large variety of back doors. The most pernicious type of such cookie is euphemistically called a "Zombie Cookie" or a "supercookie".
These may reside in a number of places either in your own computer or remotely on the web. Deleting zombie cookies or supercookies is generally ineffective, because they are reinstalled in your browser, or worse, just exchange information with your browser withouth leaving a trail of cookie crumbs, the next time you get online. Some of these zombie cookies are not browser specific, so they can be accessed through all browsers on your computer.
The reason that you may never have heard of supercookies, and the reason they are so hard to find and get rid of, is that their deployment is deliberately sneaky and designed to evade detection and deletion. This means that most people who think they have cleared their computers of tracking objects have likely not. One has to use Firefox and the add-ons called Click&Clean, BetterPrivacy along with Ghostery, Ad Block Plus.
NoScript to prevent scripts from running automatically, one has to drag a "Temporaily Allow" button up to the toolbar to click it on "safe" sites.
I trust the independent developers working to keep their FF add-ons current to combat the latest privacy threats, as Firefox is more "the browser for the users" than any other.
It's getting insane trying to keep one's machine clean, and iOS users have no chance in heck as they are closed devices.

I use Cookies by Sweet P Productions. It manages your cookies, letting you choose favorites for cookies, flash cookies, and databases (I didn't know about some of these so I had to educate myself!).
They also have a FREE app/extension/addon called Safari Cookies - only for Safari not other browsers. I started out using it, but it does install something called SIMBL, and I've heard negative things about it. Nothing serious, but I decided against it. The paid program is a true app/program and does not use SIMBL.

How to erase web history from safari.

I need to know how to erase from my IPad, web history, caches and cookies from safari web browser.

System app... Click on Safari from the left side bar... You will see the the buttons to erase cookies, cache and history. You can erase history from Safari... Bookmark icon... History... Clear History button.

Sites automatically set Firefox to allow cookies from themselver, even when told explicitly not to

Using engadget.com as an example. I have "Allow cookies from sites" set to off. Exceptions are only listed for google.com. I browse to "engadget.com". Suddenly, I have under my exceptions: "engadget.com" : "Allow". Other sites do this as well.
I've tried clearing my browser cache, the cookies.sqlite file, and got rid of all flash objects.
I didn't set it, I didn't ask the site to set it, so how did they set it? How do I stop it?

Flash audio controls is gone from the Windows audio mixer. The sound is, but I can not control it separately from the browser. Previously, there was a separate flash and a separate browser. When I use FF3. *. Flash Player audio option was, but the new FF versions do not. For me it was very comfortable and loved.

WHY does "block cookies from 3rd party and advertisers" allow a FLOOD of cookies, and caches?

My next previous computer was a powerbook circa 2003, and I got it up to 10.4..and I could easily manage cookies, see what they were and who from- AND when Isaid block them it WORKED.

It's not really an issue of Safari as such, but that the web developers have found all sorts of ways - evercookies, Flash cookies, and a number of other strategies - around the normal web cookies which is all a browser's cookie management is designed to handle. Other web browsers have more sophisticated cookie management (OmniWeb had the most complete I ever came across), but none can completely manage all types of cookies. If you want more complete management, you'll need to look to third-party cookie managers. I use Cookie from Sweet P Productions and found it to do a good job of cleaning up most cookies, but nothing is completely foolproof. It's rather like the race between virus developers and those writing antivirus utilities, though of course nowhere near as consequential.

Block cookies from specified site?

If I want to block all cookies from a given site in Safari, but not others, how do I do that?
I want a Cookie Blacklist method.

I have two Apps for cookie management. Cookie, (by sweetpproductions) is the easiest to use, I select favorites, then delete everything else manually or on a schedule I choose. Cookie is available on the AppleStore for about $15. It also cleans Flash and Silverlight cookies, along with those database tables that many sites use to store data about me (for their use) on my computer. If I checked Facebook every 15 minutes, I'd probably select FB as a favorite, but I don't need to let sites I visit once store a database on my hard-drive. Cookie gets rid of them, and it works with the common browsers, including Safari.
Little Snitch is an App that lets me build a cookie blacklist for all Internet connections (including Safari). I think Little Snitch is moderately hard to set up, and it can be very frustrating to train (training & notifications can be turned off). I have to admit, I haven't read the instructions like I should, but I have created permanent "accept" and "block" rules for many Ad and tracker cookies. I can save any new rule as temporary, and apply a rule to one browser or to all connections (like mail). I can search for a specific rule to delete or change. I can also back up my rules. Couldn't find this App in the App store but it's been around for a while and has good reviews from users at MacUpdate, Regularly costs about $35 www.obdev.at. I'm still looking for a tool that is easier and as effective.
