IE working, Firefox not

Okay here goes,
I've implemented a small corporate intranet based upon the
template used for our external website. I've been using Dreamweaver
as the editor and am serving the site using IIS. The site consists
of linked documents and directories, some are under the site root
and others are located on different servers.
When opening the site with IE 6 or 7, all links work fine and
users are able to access files or open directories based on these
links. When opening the site with Firefox (or Chrome for that
matter) none of the links to anything living outside the site root
will open, I get Page Cannot be Displayed.
When I run the Link Checker anything outside the site root
comes back as broken, even though it works in IE. I do understand
that IE can handle sloppy html, but am still at a loss for the fix.
When I try to repath the borken links by browsing to the file
(using the folder icon next to the broken link in linkchecker) it
switches all the \'s to /'s, and then asks me if I want to copy the
file to the local site root (which I don't becasue these files are
dynamically updated by staff). If I click no, then it leaves the
path changed, but alas, does not work.
Here are some examples of how the pathing looks in Firefox:
This one is the address displayed in the address bar after
clicking the file link:
http://bkvnet/forms/%5C%5Cfs4%5COrganization%5CDisciplines%5COperations%5CBKV%20Manuals%5C IT%20Operations%20Manual.pdf
Here's the way it looks when I hover over the link (at the
bottom of my browser):
http://bvknet/forms/\\Fs4\Organization\Disciplines\Operations\BKV
Manuals\IT Operations Manual.pdf
Here's the actual html code:
<a href="\\fs4\Organization\Disciplines\Operations\BKV
Manuals\IT Operations Manual.pdf">BKV IT
Manual</a><br>
I'm not sure if there is an easy fix or not, but I'm
struggling. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks,
Robert

The actual code is wrong.
Here's the actual html code:
<a href="\\fs4\Organization\Disciplines\Operations\BKV

There should never be backslashes in a link. And you should
think twice
about using file/pathnames with spaces in them.
Try this -
<a href="//fs4/Organization/Disciplines/Operations/BKV
Manuals/IT
Operations Manual.pdf">BKV IT Manual</a><br>

• Shockwave 10 on Firefox Not Working

After receiving a message from Adobe Update that there was a
new version of Shockwave, I followed the link, but Firefox failed
to automatically install the plugin. So I tried manual
installation, but when I ran the executable, it just said
"Congratulations! You have successfully installed the Shockwave
Player" without even letting me select the browser I wanted to
install for. No page or confirmation movie popped up. So I went
back to the automatic installation page to see if it had worked,
but it says I need to click on the IE info bar; I am using Firefox,
not IE, and there is no bar or message at all. Shockwave does show
up in my Add/Remove Programs list and np32dsw.dll is in my Firefox
plugins folder, but it still does not work, and it seems that it
doesn't support Firefox, because it thinks that I am using IE. I
only found one site with a fix, but it was removed for legal
reasons. Is there a way to get Shockwave 10 to work with
Firefox?

All your internal stuff like scripts etc should be relative referenced. The issue does occur in IE it just behaves a bit differently Greg.
Cross domain is not a browser thing but a web thing.
Certificates will not validate when you have this sort of thing occur.
If your using 3rd party services like google fonts you should look to use // instead of http:// in front of the URL.

• New firefox not working well at all!

Since this new version Firefox takes an excessive amount of time to start up, and seems to crash all the time. Trying to go to my bank every time tried to input, user name etc screen would fade and would get message "Firefox not responding". Other things noted does not open my home page when I start, this just started to happen today. Was not opening my home page when I opened another tab, that was from install, Just does not work for me would like to keep using but if I cant even go to my bank then there is no point.

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:
* see if there are updates for your graphics drive drivers

* disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

• Profile cannot be loaded, profile manager cannot be accessed, firefox not working

This is somewhat similar to other listed profile manager problems but none of the answers worked for me. OS is Win 8-64 bit. Have 2 user accounts. Admin and Limited. In Admin, Firefox works, can access Profile Manager, there is this profile.ini etc. Everything ok.
But in the Limited account, can not access Firefox. When clicked, it says 'Your Firefox profile can not be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible'. Cannot access Profile Manager "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p. Gives the same error message (Firefox not running).
Tried copying files in the Admin in to Limited. But the error message is same.
Uninstalled and installed using the Limited Account (supplying Admin password), no result.
Please help me.
Thank you for your time.

• Why does Firefox not work here in China anymore, since January of 2015?

I have used Firefox for years, as the fastest and most reliable browser for me, esp in China... not anymore! Last month (unknown to me) a hijacker called Vosteran took over my Firefox browser. I finally realized it and got it cleaned up using Malwarebytes anti-malware, and downloaded a new Firefox... now SAME problem exists, even with Vosteran removed!
Firefox will not allow me into ANY normal sites, saying they don't have the proper security code. This includes my Yahoo front page, email account, ESPN and other common sites that are certainly NOT dangerous. So, WHY does Firefox not work anymore? It is useless to me here in China the way it works now.

hello rickinchina, first please make sure that the date, time & timezone are set correctly on your system and that firefox is set to directly connect to the internet (that's the "no proxy" setting in the firefox menu ≡ > options > advanced > network > connection - settings...).
if this doesn't solve the issue (or it is already set properly), a possible solution depends on different factors:
* what is the error code shown under technical details on the error page?
in case the error code equals sec_error_unknown_issuer, please attempt to add an exception on the bottom of the error page (but don't do it for real) and inspect the certificate (see the screenshot attached for instructions):
* which issuer information does the certificate contain?
please report back with those two pieces of information. thank you!

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems
See Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

Question
I open my work Lotus Notes through FireFox. since the upgrade if my email has attached I can't find them. The attachment windows is there but nothing is in it.

you haven't lost anything, it's virtually impossible to delete your Zotero library by accident.
You may just need to show your add-on bar (View --> Toolbars ---> Add on Bar).
To check if Zotero is disabled, go to Tools--> Add-ons --> Extensions.
Make sure to check for Zotero updates, you may need the newest version (2.1.10) for FF6 compatibility.
As a general piece of advice, if technical problems make you frantic, don't perform major software upgrades in the middle of a project. Also, support for Zotero is better on the Zotero forums than here.

• Removed working Firefox 7, Installed Firefox 10.0, Firefox will not load. When I click on icon, firefox.exe process shows briefly in task manager, then goes away....no errors, nothing

Removed working Firefox 7, Installed Firefox 10.0, Firefox will not load. When I click on icon, firefox.exe process shows briefly in task manager, then goes away....no errors, nothing. Never see browser panel at all. Also tried to install Firefox 9.0, but the same result was observed.

Rather difficult to say what the problem may be at present but for general info please have a look at
* safe mode
*firefox will not start
*firefox hangs
Note sometimes you may have to wait a while for firefox to shutdown completly, and if it has hung then as explained in the above articles you may need to kill any firefox.exe process that is still running (and maybe plugincontainer.exe)
Try starting firefox in safe mode e.g. by holding down shift key
* do not make any changes in the first window, just click on continue<br/> ? Do you get as far as seeing the options window for safe mode ?
If firefox is crashing see firefox crashes, this is easier to work through if you can get firefox to start without crashing on startup. Currently some firefox users are finding Firefox 10 crashes on startup, and a new version Firefox 10.0.1 is being released very soon to deal with this and another cause of hangs.
Not saying any of this applies to your case but recent issues include
* ask tool bar causing hangs if video is used none English versions [/forums/contributors/708073]
* possibly some crashes do not start the crash reporter and other issues [/forums/contributors/708122?page=2#post-45059]

• Firefox not working, instructed to create a new profile, said it would save old files, restarted firefox, all old files seem to be gone? Can anyone explain?

I was having issues with Firefox opening. I opened my Safari browser to troubleshoot and after looking for solutions to Firefox not opening, I opened the firefox profile manager. The directions instructed me to create a new profile and then delete my old one (and save old files). I did that and then upon restarting firefox all my bookmarks, history, passwords etc. were gone. When I looked at the folders in my profile file, they all had creation dates of only a few minutes prior. Did I lose it all? I followed the instructions, I don't understand where all my information went.

Did you use the Profile Manager or did you use reset to create that new profile?
A reset tries to import some data from the old profile and then moves the profile to the desktop, but if you use the Profile Manager then you need to copy that data yourself to the new profile.
If you've deleted the old profile before making sure that your data has been recovered then you've lost that personal data.

• Latest windows 7 patches and firefoz 18 - firefox not working properly - shows stacked windows and does nothing

Jan 10 windows 7 patches, plus new firefox update today. Now firefox starts up and shows multiple, stacked window frames and "firefox not responding" messages on top border. after multiple firefox screen flashes (minutes of time), firefox may eventually display normal windows/frames. Selecting new site, firefox goes through same activities. Startup site is www.baynews9.com, then try going to www.cnn.com

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems article.
