IE8 distorting Flash

I have page headers made with Flash that are 750 px wide. I noticed that recently they appeared 1px too narrow and the pixel fonts were blurry. If I change the Flash width in the HTML code to 751, it looks fine (right width, fonts get crisp), even though the Flash document dimension says 750px width. I run many websites with similar headers and see this problem on lots of them.
I'm running IE8 and Flash Player 10. Since this appeared only recently, I suspect that it started with an IE update, since I haven't updated Flash Player recently. It looks okay in Firefox.
Has anyone seen a similar problem? Is there a fix? (I don't want to change all those widths to 751 and then have them be wrong if/when IE8 or whatever is causing it gets fixed.)
Thanks
Harry Tennant

Here's an example where I increased the width of the Flash piece by 1 px to make it work for IE8
http://www.sunrayisd.net/academic/Directory.cfm
You can see in this snippet of code that the Flash piece is now 751 wide and it matches the table below which is 750 wide.

</object></noscript>
</div>
<table class="BodyTable" width="750" border="0" align="center" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" height="365">
In the following example, both the Flash and table below are 750 wide. With IE8 you can see a misalignment along the left edge.

</object></noscript>
</div>
<table class="BodyTable" width="750" border="0" align="center" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" height="365">
I was able to fix the text distortion problem within Flash for the pixel fonts by setting Stage.scaleMode="noScale" but I still have the width/alignment problem. These align properly in IE7 and Firefox. It appears that IE8 makes a too-small-by-one sizing error for Flash.

    Well to show the menu it runs off opacity, Opacity is not cross browser and IE8 as you noticed will not work with it.
    This menu method of a CSS menu is also not mobile friendly.
    You will need the MS filters to work in older IE's

  • Problem with IE8 and Flash on LL Bean website

    My desktop machine is running XP SP3 with all updates and the latest Flash Player. When visiting the LL Bean online catalog you view the products which have small pictures associated with them. If you click on a picture a larger window opens up with zoom controls etc which gives you a much better idea of what the product looks like. This works perfectly with my laptop running the same software setup as well as my work computers. With my desktop the image loading progress bar runs to the end of the bar and then just sits there. It doesn't hang IE8 or anything...it just sits and does nothing. I can close the window and go back to browsing the catalog with no problem until I try to view another larger image where it does the same thing.
    So far I have not run into any  issues with any of the other websites I have visited.
    I am hoping the experts here can help me resolve this problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled flash 3-4 times. I have read several articles on google but none quite like what I'm experiencing...I have run into a brick wall.
    Any help tearing the wall down will be much appreciated.

    It do happen with IE many times. Few flash files works exactly in other browsers but in IE they dont. Try to update the IE latest software or patches from microsoft website.

  • RSL error #2032 with IE8, Win7 Flash ver. 11.8.800.168

    I have some users that are getting a RSL error # 2032. The only ones getting this error are running IE8, Windows 7 and have Flash Version 11.8.800.168. Users running IE9, Windows 7 do not get this error. Is there a solution to this?

    No, we are not able to repair IE. We are controlled by GPO. Would you happen to know of any GPO that would cause this error in IE8?
    Thanks for your reply.

    I have a 24inch 1920x1080 monitor. I want to read the text on the screen but at the IE defualt of 100% it gets very tideous trying to read the wrighting and its the same with Adobe Flash player it becomes ridiculously small. I like to have my browser at 150% everything fits the screen better you dont have these giant borders on either side of what you are looking at and you can read the wrighting easier, but here comes the problem adobe flash player video (minus youtube videos) stays the same size as if I was still at 100% and doesn't fill the flash player margains. id expect the video to enlarge with the browser? No?
    Before you ask ive turned off hardware acceleration and that did not work.

    Thanks for the reply.

    I should have made that more clear. I went to Control Panel -> Uninstall a program and then removed it there. After that, the folder was still there in the system32 directory so I renamed it to be safe that the old is not being used. Then I went to Adobe.com and installed the flash player through the browser with their download manager.

  • Flash content distorts when scrolling and switching tabs.. since FF 13.0.1..

    Before describing the issue
    Please note from the System Details pane to this post that I have the latest flash, etc.
    And Windows updates,are up to date.
    ==================================================
    Issue: Scrolling distorts flash player window (Youtube, hulu, etc.)
    Since: FF 13.0.1 update in June. (I posted on the issue under "badly scrambled images".)
    Problem is still there with FF 14.0.1
    This distortion happens:
    # even with just starting the browser (so no bloated cache)
    # even with just only one or two tabs open.
    And since last week's update to FF 14.01, I have also detected:
    Switching to the the tab with flash content will "imprint" the image from the my previous tab on to the flash player. I have to scroll or refresh to get the flash player to show its content.
    FYI, none of these flash player problems occur with IE9.
    The advise from a regular contributor was to turn off hardware acceleration, but these did not solve this issue.:(
    Solutions suggesting disabling all the plugins etc. have not solved the problem either.
    So if you can tell me some other way to solve this, I will appreciate it.
    Thanks.

    Sorry, it took me a while to give feedback for the suggestions you have given here.
    (Please refer to sidebar on the original post for system details.)
    I have reset the profile and updated the Nvidia driver. The version of FF is 14.0.1. But it still scrambles the pictures.
    On top of scrambling the flash content when scrolling, it has additional problems:
    As you can see from the attached image, another tab's content is showing on the youtube flash player. This happens when I have paused the video even for a short time.
    I have a suspicion that the combination of Flash and Firefox does some weird things to graphic processing and memory.
    (I realize that IE implements Flash differently, but they seem to have this right.)
    I might just have to say goodbye to Firefox for a while.
    Thanks.

  • Flash and IE8 Render Issues

    Grasping for straws as we cannot seem to find anyone else with issues related to IE8 rendering SWF's incomplete. We're getting a random"blanking" or black area of the images we are loading in at 960X680 resolution. This is an illustrators gallery and is being loaded dynamically using an XML file. Has anyone seen this sort of thing before or have any ideas as to what could be causing this? It is only happening on IE8 as we have tested Safari, Firefox & Chrome on PC and Mac.

  • No Flash Player in New Windows XP Account

    I am using Windows XP SP3 with all updates. An up to date version of Flash is installed in my own (Administrators) account and this works fine.
    I have created a new account for someone else using my computer but when I attempt to access any on-line media, I get a message saying Flash is not installed.
    I have tried to install it (from the new account) but get an error message saying I should refer to www.Adobe.com/Go/tn_19166 - but this page doesn't exist.
    References elsewhere refer to uninstalling all versions of Flash and then reinstalling - but I am concerned that doing so will mean that while it may work on the new account, the problem will have shifted to my own (Administrator) account!
    Any suggestions/advice welcome.

    Since posting the above, I returned to my own (Administrator) account to find Flash Player no longer worked and was giving prompts to be installed. I completely uninstalled then re-installed (from my Admin account). It works fine again there but, when I return to one of the other accounts, I get the prompts saying it needs to be installed!

    Thanks for that suggestion. I tried it but I'm afraid it didn't work  for me though.
    Hope you have better luck; also hope someone else makes a suggestion!
    Just another twist that I've discovered. From my own Admin account, I can visit a site with IE8 and Flash Player is fine; if I visit the same site a moment later using FireFox, I am told it needs to be installed. So, to summarise, I can only use Flash Player on one (my own) account and only if I use IE8!

  • I have to reload a webpage to make a Flash Object in IE7 WinXP SP3. How can i fix this problem?

    Hello:
    When I want to navigate a webpage that contains a flash object, the Internet Explorer show the icon that the page contains an error, if I relod the page, the page now doesn't show the error and the Flash objects work well. This occurs recently, some weeks ago, I didn't have that problem. How can I fix this problem?
    I'm using Win XP SP3, IE8 and Flash 14.0.0.145
    I tried to uninstall the 14 version and installed the 13 version but the problem persists.

    All new keyboards need Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and above for full functionality.
    Rather short-sighted of Apple perhaps, but that seems to be a trend these days.
    I'm afraid the only fix is to upgrade to SL. Personaly, I'd take it back and get a refund and seek an older keyboard or a third-party one elsewhere.

  • Flash windows in web page do not print preview or print - works in IE

    Specs:
    Win XP Pro, SP3, Laptop and Win 7 Desktop
    FF 3.6.10
    IE8
    Latest flash for IE and FF - 10.1.85.3 (previous 10.1 versions also issue)
    I routinely use www.speedtest.net and www.speakeasy.net/speedtest to perform speed tests for troubleshooting issues. Both use Flash windows to show the Download/Upload speed test progress and final results.
    In IE8, both ''print preview'' and ''print'' work and display/print the contents of the flash windows. In FF, everything displays/prints properly expect the content of the Flash windows - they are blank.
    Apologize, as I imagine this has had to be reported in the past as I've seen posts via Google search going back many years, but could not find anything recent in FF help or forum. In addition, I assume this could be a Flash issue. However, if it is, it is not impacting IE. Regardless whether an FF or Adobe issue, I believe that Mozilla should head up and manage the repairs.

    If you just need an image of the page (not the browser frame or full desktop), the FireShot extension will do that. I have been using FireShot for some time and am quite happy with the results. I just tested it on www.speedtest.net results on my XP system and it worked. With Fireshot, you can add notations and print or save the image (full screen or just visible area). Do not opt for the paid "Pro" version, just use the free version. If you use it, you may want to block outgoing connection to screenshot-program.com in your firewall; I do not know why it tries to make that contact with it each screen capture, but it works fine with the firewall blocking the outgoing connection.

    A user with Windows XP Pro (32 bit) appears to successfully install Flash Player, and short flash sequences embedded in web pages seem to display OK. But any time she tries to play a video from within a browser she gets the message "The Adobe Flash Player has crashed" and the video will not play.

    It didn't work for me either:
    Using FireFox 10.0.2 and Flash Player 11.1.102.62 (or any other combination that I have tried so far) on Windows 7 64 bit, after a few seconds of playing a YouTube video the video freezes up and after a few more seconds I get the frowny face with the message that Flash Player has crashed.  Several people have recommended disabling hardware acceleration but that didn't help.  The only way I can get it to play YouTube videos is to go to FireFox Plugins and disable the Shockwave plugin.  Now I can play YouTube videos, but some videos that come to me from other platforms pop up with the message:  "This plugin is disabled."
    I used to be able to play all videos with no problem up to about two weeks ago. I don't want to have to restore to a previous time if I don't have to.
    Also, when I use Internet Explorer I have no problems playing either YouTube of those from other sources.
    I have seen a lot of questions on this problem but no good answers that have worked for me.
    BTW, on each crash I clicked on reload and submit report, but don't know if it goes anywhere.
