If I buy a MacBook pro now, what will happen with it once the Lion OS makes it's appearance? Will I need to buy a new one again?

Lion will run on most Intel machines. It will not run on the following machines:
MacBook Pro (sold before October 2006)
MacBook (sold before November 2006)
Mac Mini (sold before August 2007)
iMac (sold before September 2006)
It requires an Intel Core 2 Duo (or later CPU). Those machines listed above were all Intel Core Duo machines and with the exception of one of the Mac Minis, an Intel Core Solo. So we're talking 4+ year old machines. I have not tested Lion on a machine with anything less than 2GB of RAM.
Wikipedia has a pretty good public summation of what's known so far and it's quite accurate - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X_Lion
The biggest thing of note so far is that you cannot install/run Rosetta. Which maybe problematic for some users.

If I buy a MacBook Pro now, will it update to the new Yosemite software in the fall?

If you purchase a brand new model, yes. If you purchase an older one, it depends on what the system requirements for Yosemite are, which aren’t publicly available.

  • When I buy  a macbook pro now , will it have mac os x lion on it?

when I buy  a macbook pro now , will it have mac os x lion on it?

It would depend on when it was produced, eg if it has been sitting in a store for months it maybe loaded with the older operating system, whereas if it is newly produced it should come with lion on it.

  • If I buy a Macbook Pro, can I sync it with my desktop iMac?

If I buy a Macbook Pro, can I sync it with my desktop iMac?

If what you mean is whether you can move all your files to the new Mac, SURE -- that is easy.
Daily Local sync-ing seems to have been removed from 10.9 Mavericks, which would come pre-installed on a new Mac.
You can sync through iCloud or a Server you control.
File Sharing between Macs on a network remains available.

I want to buy it on sale this friday, so a quick answer will make me happy :)

You should - if you're in the UAE, for instance, you should get an Arabic keyboard (you may have to specify when you configure your machine - I don't know, I live in the US).

  • When I create a new folder on the desktop of my macbook pro, it is automatically populated with all of the files on the desktop, which I don't want.

when I create a new folder on the desktop of my macbook pro, it is automatically populated with all of the files on the desktop, which I don't want.

I got the problem solved. It was pretty simple but new to me. I had evidently inadvertently switched the setting in the "View" tab on the dropdown menu so that all of my desktop folders were populated by all folders/documents residing on the desktop.
The solution was to open one of the folders, then go to the "View" tab and change the setting to "List." Presto, now all the folders include only the contents I had intentionally loaded into them.

I have a MacBook Pro. When I go to system preferences, the external speakers option does not appear on the input tab and, of course, the external speakers do not work. Help?

When you plug headphones in, or external speakers, where it states "internal speakers", it will rename that "headphones", say. Unless you are running an external sound card.

  • Shall I buy a macbook pro now or wait until June 2013?

I recently fried my 2009 macbook pro with a big cup of the all over the keyboard!
Now I need to buy a new one, I was oriented towards the 2.5GHz, 13", 8GB RAM and 500 GB, non-retina ;I don't need the retina).
What do you guys think? Are the new models going to have a great performance improvement versus these old models?
I mainly use the macbook for video editing and web design, not too much Photoshop. What do you suggest me to do? wait or buy? and if buy, shall I go with the 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 model?
Please keep in mind that I don't buy with the idea of reselling it some day in rhe future..
Thank you all for your kind feedback!
    Cheers,
    matt

If you have a a need for a MBP and the current ones suit you, purchase one.  No one knows, but Apple, when the next MBP generation will be released nor what specifications will be incorporated in them.  To discuss such matters is one of a speculative nature and the Terms of Use of this forum prohibit such.
    Ciao.

  • GPU Issue with 2008 MacBook Pro - now what?

About a year ago, my MacBook Pro stopped working reliably after a few months of a flickering screen. I stopped using it, and switched to my iPad and iMac for everything. I'm now looking at things that would require a portable computer, so I got out the MacBook Pro and looked into getting it to work again.
I knew about the GPU issue before, but didn't realize that Apple had extended the repair options (mine would have been covered until May 2012). I'm fairly certain that the GPU is the cause of my problem, as it turns on but stops on the Apple boot screen.
Short of a logic board replacement, is there any solution? Has Apple been known to help anyone out past their repair period? Will baking the board fix the GPU, or is it done for?

Don't pay anyone to do this for you, there is a DIY way that works just as well.  What most repairmen do is bake the logic board and melt the gpu back into place.  There is a way that does this and all it requires is waiting:
    1. Plug in your macbook pro (make sure that its off)
    2. Turn on the computer, and hwen it chimes, close the lid and turn it updside down.
    3. Wrap the macbook in a heavy quilt.
    4. Let the computer sit for about an hour.
    5. Take it out of the quilt, unplug it and let it cool for 20 minutes.
    6. Turn on the computer.
I can say that this works as I had the same problem, and after this method, the computer is up and running, I'm typin this on it now!

  • Should i buy macbook Pro now??? or wait for the new model in 2012..???

i want to buy MacBook Pro....so... should i wait for the new model or???

Your question is analogues to the same situation if you were contemplating the purchase of a new car.
If you need one and the current model satisfies your needs, purchase it.  If the current crop does not satisfy your needs you certainly can wait for a new model, but there is no guarantee that the new model will have features that will fulfill your expectations.
In short, your choices are dealing with the known vs unknown possibilities.

  • Should I buy a MacBook Pro now (Jan 2012) considering that a refresh of the MacBook Pro line is imminent? I will be buying the most basic 13 inch MBP and its taken me quite sometime to save up (almost a year!)

I'm not very well off and although I love MacBooks they aren't cheap either, I've been saving up for a long time now and I don't want to regret it if nvidia or ati graphic cards make an appearance in the new macbook pro 13 basics. Advise please!

While you are waiting for the new models to come out you could of been using the one you bought tomorrow all that time.
When Dell, HP, Toshiba, Sony, Apple, Whoever comes out with new models they will have different thing in them. Faster lower powered CPUs better graphic faster hard drives or SSDs more memory and maybe a better operating system.
So why not wait 1-2-3-4 years. By then the thing may even wash your back and feet for you.
And they wiil be selling at a premium. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

  • Can i buy a macbook pro retina display in US with portuguese keyboard?

Can Apple or someone else tell me if is possible to buy in Apple Retail Store in U.S. a Macbook Pro retina Display  with portuguese keyboard?

It's difficult to get one at a shop or Apple Online Store because build-to-order Macs aren't available at them unless they are very popular.
The only option you have is to call Apple (1-800-MY-APPLE) and see if you can order a MacBook Pro with a Portuguese keyboard. In case you can, this will take days because it has to be ordered and delivered to the USAFD
