If RH Server's database goes down, does RH Server go down also?

Hi experts. I've a couple RH Server questions:
Supposing RH Server's database fails, or at least it's connection to the database fails. What would be the consequences. That is, would RH Server crash and not serve up anything. Or, would it simply be that reports are no longer accessible, etc.
Has anyone used RH Server (installed on a Win 7 system) connected to a SQL Server Express instance (installed on another Win 7 system to spread CPU load).
My IT Manager is very leery of the free database option (for performance/reliability reasons), but there's no way we're going to spend almost 20K$ on SQL Server or Oracle DB. So, I'd like to allay his concerns about the SQL Service Express option.
Thanks in advance.
-Kurt

Rh Server *is* a database-driven application and as such it requires a database be up and working for both serving content as well as reporting.
Your IT person raises good points. I have used the "SQL Express" version without issues. As your IT person already knows, there are certain Microsoft connection and size limitations on its use. Otherwise it would be better than Access and assuming it fits the other DB/OS combination requirements I noted in the links above.
Unless something has changed, the open-source Apache Tomcat Server itself does not support "Load Balancing" and so I don't think you can "spread the CPU load". Although I am not that network savvy, so a call to Adobe support (asking to be escalated for Rh Server-specific assistance) to verify this would be a good idea. That said, I know organizations that have set up "fault tolerance" configurations to their satisfaction (but can't be more specific than that.)

  • SQL Server 2012 (Server Authentication), Is it possible to add Server Authentication after a Windows Authentication installation

    I installed SQL Server 2012 to use Windows Authentication. An the tool I'm using to replicated data to the SQL Server 2012 database wants to use the (Server Authentication) mode. Is it possible to add a Server Authentication useID and Password?
    Please let me know your thoughts.

    Hi
    You can change SQL Server Authentication by right clicking on the server instance and @Server Properties, Choose SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode as shown in the image below
    You have to restart the SQL Server for this to come into effect.
    After this you are good to go for creating SQL Logins and using them.
    Hope this helps.

  • Hyper-V - 2 node cluster goes down if one server shutsdown

    Hi all,
    I built a 2 node cluster with tiered storage and then I started doing some tests:
    * Drain one node and all the VMs moved to the other node, perfect
    * shutdown the drained node.
    The entire cluster crashed!!! The remaining node is trying to re-connect to the iSCSI SAN without success.
    * I booted the drained node. And it would not re-connect to the iSCSI SAN either. I had to force the reconnect in the iscsi control panel to make it re connect.
    So why would shutting down one node kill the cluster ? Sure it was the node that had the tiered pool online, but even then, isn't failover cluster supposed to put that one back and working on the other node ?
    Why did the active node lose the iSCSI connection too ? It had VMs running on it prior to the shutdown of the other node. My DC that was running on that other node is also now un available, can't ping it or anything.
    So what did I miss in the configuration of the cluster ? I followed the msdn 2 node hyper-v cluster doc.
    I am really worried atm since I had over the past 3 months a ton of issues with hyper-v going from using tiered storage, shutting down nodes, MAC address on the VMs and the hosts,... I thought that after hyper-v 2008, Microsoft had really made some progress
    with Hyper-V but I truly regret not going with VMWare again this time around.
    That cluster was supposed to go into homologation phase tomorrow at the datacenter but now I am unsure if I ll ever be able to trust it to work.
    The SAN is an MD3200i which is reported as Hyper-V ready.
    Any hint on where I have gone wrong would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Edit: even from the host with powershell I was not able to shutdown the DC and reboot it clean. Said the integration services were not reachable... it is a 2012 R2 servers...
    Edit2: One of my VM is gone ! Can't even find the file on the disks either locally on the hosts or on the SAN. WTF!!!

    Actually comes across very reasonable. And I think you are right. I tend to compare Hyper-V to vSphere with vCenter included. I have not seen nor used VMM. Also true that Storage Pools and iSCSI is not Hyper-V, but to me it comes as a package just as much
    as ESXi 'comes' with it.
    As for burning personnal hours and money on books, I have, just as much as I go to conferences when I can and can afford it. And the only thing I would envy you, is the fact you have your colleagues to bounce idea of / lay on if necessary.
    As for the few hundred box for the management suite. I believe the stack you speak of would actually cost my current company about 14k$, that is not a few hundred box. That is pretty much the cost of one of the 2 SANs.  By 14k$, I mean that
    we have 6 servers with 2 sockets each, running a lot of VMs, which means Datacenter licences which list price is 3.6k$. I am not even including the CALs. Or am I mistaken on the licensing ?
    If VMWare, I would be going with essentials which, at the same server perimeter, would be 30% less expensive. We don't really need the full blown one at our level.
    I am also locked by hardware that was ordered by my predecessor which do not provide the service we need them for. (I blame the vendor on that one, my predecessor was not an infrastructure guy). As for storage, if you are referring to SMB3 and using
    a failover cluster to provide the disks to the hyper-v hosts, I agree. I am just not too sure on the technology yet and went more for safety until I can test it thoroughly in the dev environment.
    I also hope Microsoft will add an easier way to set the media type on disks as well as allow for more than just SSD and HDD or even allow us to define our own.
    I actually fooled the system this time around because SSD are too expensive and too high a failure rate compared to 15kRPM (yes the performance are lovely) at the moment. So I made the 15kRPMs into SSD.
    For the remote management issue, i meant that actually, at this time, I have to disable the domain firewall to be able to manage the hyper-v 2012 R2. I tried hvremote, adding all the necessary rules, etc... What I did for 2012 worked perfectly fine and I
    had full controls. 2012 R2 does not. I have another thread on this in the forum and I ll come back to it as soon as I can.
    I don't really care for the no interface thingy, I enjoy Powershell and scripting fine :) Does a lot of automation for me :) I am used to scripting anyway and it is faster to reproduce steps that way. You do it once, and you got something you can apply with
    little changes to everything.
    I joined the company in November last year and I got dropped a full stack to upgrade in 6 months while maintaining the current one. Encountering the problem now is better and is, fundamentally, good, though it is time consumming.
    By full stack I mean:
    * Help the dev re-design the apps so it handles load better. Get out of Windows 2003 and migrate to 2012 and validate all the applications on 2012 as well as improve security.
    * Implementing a monitoring system for the infrastructure and the applications.
    * Upgrade SQL Server 2005 to, in this case 2012 Standard (no choice and enterprise not in the price range of the company). Converge our current test and prod environments. Optimize all the queries... And naturally validate the applications.
    * Upgrade the certificate authorities so they are available on all sites. Haven't scratched that one yet.
    * Design a fully site redundant architecture so that if a site goes dark we have no impact. If there is partial failure on one site, no issue either, and so on XD. I wish I had AG :)
    * Implement a single windows domain on all the sites, that will be a relief :) Running 4 domains and about 10 different workgroups atm
    * Upgrade the firewalls, switches, servers hardware, ... Implement the necessary networks for virtualization and improved security rules... (Don't buy SonicWalls, had a worse headache with them than Hyper-V :) )
    * Migrate the users from old domain to new one. Windows 8 does not have the user migration tool anymore :(
    * Plan the DR tests and processes :)
    * Gotta get Hyper-V replica working as well as backups.
    * And naturally make all the documentation so that if I happen to get under a bus, anyone in the company can just follow the documentation in case of an emergency.
    And I am sure I am still missing some part of the environment no one knows about at some places :) Found a new network today XD.
    As for the mixed VM management, I mean some that are in HA on the cluster and others that don't need and must not failover. Am sure there is a way to configure them in the failover cluster so they don't failover. I just need to spend the 15 minutes looking
    into it :)
    Since I have had that SAN, I spent about 5 days on the phone with Dell support. That iSCSI issue is not the first one I got :( But in the production environment, that issue has disappeared. So at this time, i have switched working on other issues. And with
    the information you provided, I'll be able to know if one of the node of the cluster lose the connectivity which will help avoid this issue in the future.
    And it is a very good and interesting challenge. I am just running in way to many issues doing a 10 year old system upgrade :) I was expecting to have an easier time with Microsoft Virtualization than I've had.
    Oh and just for the fun, I also had VM disappear, no more file, no nothing, just poof. Have not figured how that happened yet. Had the backup so not much of an issue, but still, it went poof when the original issue happened.
    Thanks for the time and the tips :)

  • Callconnector database goes down every hour

    We have been running callconnector with no problems for the past 1 year, as of last week the database goes down pretty much hourly. The only change we made around the same time as this started was we changed admin passwords on all our servers / routers / switches due to a senior admin being let go from the company. Any help anyone can give would be great as we are a small non-profit company.
    Our versions that we are running are CM Version 2.0.0.40 - Server Version 2.01.010
    To get it back running I just have to click the database server button within configuration manager and it will work for another hour. The windows services don't seem to be affected only the services within the configuration manager. We are running this on a 2008 R2 VM environment.

    I remembered it used to say 0.91, but now says 88.5, so I typed the following two lines in Terminal:
    sudo /bin/launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.clamav.freshclam.plist
    sudo /bin/launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/net.clamav.freshclam.plist
    Then I rebooted once more.
    When it came back up, I checked the Server Admin Virus Update log and it now says:
    Current working dir is /var/clamav

    I assume this is what it is supposed to say now. ClamD (as of right now) is not taking up any resources, so maybe it will be better now. I will keep this topic posted of any changes.
    Is there any recommended commercial products for OS X Server regarding anti-virus and anti-spam instead of using clamav? Also what command in Terminal will force a restart of clamd? I also saw a reference to a "rebuild of ClamAV" in another topic. How do you "rebuild" ClamAV?
    Thanks for the help so far,

  • Services of all the databases goes down

    Hi ,
    2 days back, Services of all the databases goes down on one of the PROD server.
    When i tried to start the services using SRVCTL command .
    I was getting the error below.
    oracle@shbaorc07b bin]$ srvctl status database -d EDW
    PRKH-1010 : Unable to communicate with CRS services.
    [Communications Error(Native: prsr_initCLSS:[3])]

    PRKC-1056 : Failed to get the hostname for node + PRKH-1010 + prsr_initCLSS
    after this error, i came to know that there is some problem with the services.
    When i try to start the crs services, was not able to start the services
    as a root user user,
    I run the below command.
    crsctl start crs
    to my surprise the services of crs was not coming up,
    Finally I have to start the server and all the cluster services came up.
    I want to find out why this was happen, i need to find the bottle neck so this should not happen again as this is a PROD server and lots of prod database are residing on this server.

  • Server instance is going down very frequently

    Hi,
    Please help me solving one problem. The details are as follows:
    Two web applications built on struts framework are running on one server. The server is SAPJ2EE 6.20 server which is running on SUSE LINUX.
    I have SAPJ2EE 6.20 client interface using which I deploy these applications. Now once the applications are deployed, it runs perfect but after some time the instance of SAPJ2EE 6.20 application server goes down in linux and it remove these two application.
    To make these two applications avaliable to the users I have to restart the instance of application server on linux and again deploy the applications. The behaviour of the same is very dynamic. Sometime it goes down 2 - 3 times in a day, sometime once in a day,
    sometime once in 3 - 4 days and sometime once in a week.
    On server I checked the logs but I didn't get any clue. The logs contains normal java exceptions like NULLPointerException, ExhaustResultSetException, IOException etc.
    I guess the application is throwing some error because of which the server instance is going down and these errors are not showing in logs.( By error I don't mean exceptions, I mean errors like MemoryError etc.)
    Am I thinking correct or is their any other issue? How to verify what is going wrong?
    Please please please guide me on this as this is very important for me.
    thanks and regards

    Hi,
    I would suggest to have look at the application server console. Do you see any OutOfMemory or any sort of Exception over there
    Please paste it here

    Does RoboHelp Server store all data in the database and only code and templates on the web server?

    We need a separate web server and database server. All the content must be in the database. It looks like RoboHelp Server might not be the right architecture.

  • Hi. I am going to be buying a macbook air 2012 soon with 4 GB of RAM and wondering how much memory space does norton AV take up and does it drastically slow down the mac. Thanks a lot :)

    Hi
    I am going to be buying a macbook air 2012 model with 4 GB ram soon. I was wondering how much space (memory) does Norton AV take up and does it drastically slow down the computer. Also, I am going off to uni so will predominantly be using the laptop for surfing and MS office.
    Thanks a lot

    Sorry to disagree mende1.  In this age of email attachments and social networks, it is actually a good idea to have a good antivirus on your system. {I realize that this is a religious argument and I will say no more}.  With that said, the general concensus is that Norton AV is terrible. It is intrusive and uses up a lot of cycles.
    There are a lot of better AV clients out there.  I use ClamXav which is free and uses the clamav antivirus that is open source.

  • How do I rename an XE database on a Windows 2003 Server?

    Ok. I'm attempting to rename a freshly installed XE database on a Windows 2003 Server. It looks like there is no getting around the fact that the database gets named "XE" during installation. Because there could potentially be multiple installations of XE in my organization, I thought it'd be a good idea to disambiguate the installations by renaming them to match their function. In this particular case, I'd like to rename the database to "CTXMGMT". It will be a data repository for our Citrix farm administration programs.
    Here is what I've performed thus far:
    1. Installed Oracle 10g XE on one of our Windows 2003 Server, Standard Edition machines.
    2. Verified that the installation was performed correctly by making sure the 'Database Home Page' loads correctly through Internet Explorer, and by performing a few Select statements on the database (i.e. select name from v$database;)
    * * I then began following instructions from this document (http://www.utexas.edu/its/unix/reference/oracledocs/v92/B10501_01/server.920/a96652/ch14.htm#1004735) to rename the database. Note: I'm only trying to change the name of the database, not the ID.
    3. Shutdown the database
    4. Opened the database in MOUNT mode
    5. Ran the NID utility. Here's the actual input/output to/from the NID utility:
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>nid target=sys/manager@xe DBNAME=CTXMGMT SETNAME=YES
    DBNEWID: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Mon Jul 10 15:55:10 2006
    Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.
    Connected to database XE (DBID=2476560070)
    Connected to server version 10.2.0
    Control Files in database:
    C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\CONTROL.DBF
    Change database name of database XE to CTXMGMT? (Y/[N]) => Y
    Proceeding with operation
    Changing database name from XE to CTXMGMT
    Control File C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\CONTROL.DBF - modified
    Datafile C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\SYSTEM.DBF - wrote new name
    Datafile C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\UNDO.DBF - wrote new name
    Datafile C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\SYSAUX.DBF - wrote new name
    Datafile C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\USERS.DBF - wrote new name
    Datafile C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\TEMP.DBF - wrote new name
    Control File C:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\CONTROL.DBF - wrote new name
    Instance shut down
    Database name changed to CTXMGMT.
    Modify parameter file and generate a new password file before restarting.
    Succesfully changed database name.
    DBNEWID - Completed succesfully.
    6. After running the NID utility from a separate DOS Window, I attempt to shutdown the newly renamed database from the first DOS Window I used in steps 3 & 4 from above (i.e. to shutdown the database and then start it in MOUNT mode) but I receive this error:
    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
    This is somewhat expected since the SQL*Plus connection in this window probably had "the bottom pulled out from under it" when the database was renamed.
    However at this point I'm unsure about what state the database is in. Is it down? Is it up? Logic would sort of dictate that the database was left in the MOUNT state, which is the state it was in when the database name was changed. However, the only way I'm able to get back in to the database is by doing the following
    a. Opened a new DOS window
    b. entered "set ORACLE_HOME=C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server"
    c. entered "set ORACLE_SID=XE"
    d. entered " sqlplus "/ as sysdba" "
    e. at SQL> prompt, entered "startup"... which produces:
    SQL> startup;
    ORACLE instance started.
    Total System Global Area 285212672 bytes
    Fixed Size 1287016 bytes
    Variable Size 92277912 bytes
    Database Buffers 188743680 bytes
    Redo Buffers 2904064 bytes
    ORA-01103: database name 'CTXMGMT' in control file is not 'XE'
    SQL>
    From here I don't know what to do. According to the ORA-01103 error message, it looks like I need to change the database name in the control file to "CTXMGMT", but I'm not sure how I should go about that. The control file is a binary file, so I can't just open it up with Notepad and type in a new database name.
    I suspect that even once that is done that the listener.ora (and maybe the tnsnames.ora file?) will have to be edited to include the new "CTXMGMT" name, but I'm not sure how exactly those files should look to incorporate the new database name.
    Also, would the names of services have to be changed in Windows as well? (i.e. Would the Windows service named "OracleServiceXE" have to be renamed to "OracleServiceCTXMGMT" ?)
    In short, I really just need to know how to rename an XE database on Windows appropriately. The steps described above represent as far as I've gotten. If I'm going about it incorrectly could someone shed some light on the correct steps to follow? The more detailed the better. Thanks.
    - Gary

    Okay, I've....
    1) Reinstalled XE, to start from scratch
    2) Went in to SQL*Plus, did a "create pfile from spfile;"
    3) Shutdown the database
    4) Started it up in MOUNT mode
    5) Ran NID, to change the database name from 'XE' to 'CTXMGMT'
    6) Shutdown the database again
    7) Edited the pfile to change the database name (i.e. "db_name='CTXMGMT'")
    8) Started up the database
    And that worked! So that's good... but now my question is:
    How do I change the SID for the database? Currently, the instance name for the database is still 'XE'....
    SQL> select instance_name
    2 from v$instance;
    INSTANCE_NAME
    xe
    I'd like it so a connection could be made to the database with the tnsnames.ora file looking like this:
    CTXMGMT =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = rodin)(Port = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = CTXMGMT))
    Could someone explain how to get the database to this state? Thanks.

  • Is it possible to have different authentication mode for SQL Server Database Engine and corresponding SQL Server instance?

    Hi,
    I have installed the x64 SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with default settings and run MBSA 2.3 (using default settings too). It shows three SQL Server instances: MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS, SQLEXPRESS and SQLEXPRESS (32-bit). For the first, authentication
    mode is Windows, for the rest two - mixed. Here https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/03e470dc-874d-476d-849b-c805acf5b24d/sql-mbsa-question-on-folder-permission?forum=sqlsecurity question
    about such multiple instances was asked and the answer is that "MSSQL10.TEST_DB
    is the instance ID for the SQL Server Database Engine of the instance, TEST_DB", so in my case, it seems that MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS is the instance ID for SQL Server Database Engine  of the SQLEXPRESS instance.
    I have two questions:
    1) How can it be that SQL Server DB Engine instance has different authentication mode than corresponding SQL Server Instance?
    2) Why 32-bit instance reported although I installed only 64-bit version?
    Also, this https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/security/en-US/6b12c019-eaf0-402c-ab40-51d31dce968f/mbsa-23-reporting-sql-32bt-instance-is-running-in-mixed-mode-when-it-is-set-to-integrated?forum=MBSA question seems to be related to this
    issue, but there is no answer :(.
    Upd: Tried on clean Windows 8 installation and Windows 7 with the same result.

      Because I DO NOT want the three people who will be having access to the production SQL Server to also have access to the primary host ProductionA.  Since I have to allow them to RDC into the box to manage the SQL Server, I figure why not create
    a separate VM for each one of them and they can RDC into those instead.
    Does this make any sense?
    Any tips are greatly appreciated.  The main reason for doing this is because the three people who will be accessing the box, I need to isolate each one of them and at the same time keep them off of the primary ProductionA.
    Thanks for your help.
    M
    Hello M,
    Since you dont want the 3 guys to have access to Production machine A.You can install SQL Server client .By client i mean SQL server management studio(SSMS) on there local desktop and then create login for them in SQL Server.Open port on which your SQL server
    is running for three of the machines so that they can connct.Now with SSMS installed on each machine each can connect to SQL server from there own machine.
    I would also like you to be cautious with giving Sysadmin privilege to all three of them ,first please note down what task they would do and then decide what rights to be provided.
    Your option will also work but you need to create 3 VM for that .Which is more tedious task.
    Hope this helps

  • Where in migration process does old server stop functioning as primary server?

    I am migrating from a SBS 2003 box to a new WS 2012 R2 Essentials box - following the instructions from
    "Migrate from Previous Versions to Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials or Windows Server Essentials Experience".   What I need to know is where in the process does
    the old server stop functioning as a server for my network.   What I mean by this is when in the migration process (when I add the new server as a replicate DC?  not until I demote the old server?) will any programs/databases on the old server no
    longer be available to client computers?
    Thanks for any insight.

    Yeah, we need to agree on what is meant by "the server". In Windows, Server means many different things. Each time you move, a role or feature from the "old" to the "new" the old server ceases to function as "the server"
    for that role or feature. The basic functions of a Windows DC include Active Directory, 5 FSMO roles, file and print services, and application services to name just a few.
    So the answer to your question is more to do with what you mean by "server".  In particular, for the application role, you must move the app to the new server by whatever means the developer recommends.  At that point, regardless of whatever
    else is going on the old server is out of the picture for that application.

  • What are the advantage of using Oracle Database when compare to SQL SERVER

    what are the advantage of using Oracle Database when compare to SQL SERVER

    Hi,
    There are various differences between the two.
    1. SQL Server is only Windows, but Oracle runs on almost all Platforms.
    2. You can have multiple databases in SQL Server, but Oracle provides you only one database per instance.Given that the very term 'database' has s different meaning in the two products, this "difference" is absolutely meaningless.
    3. SQL Server provides T-SQL for writing programs, whereas Oracle provides PL/SQLWhich means what? Both products have a procedural programming language. They named them differently, and the languages are not interchangeable. Means nothing in comparing the features/strengths/weaknesses/suitability to purpose.
    4. Backup types in both are the same. (Except Oracle provides an additional backup called Logical Backup.)You make that sound like "Logical Backup" is something more than it is. It is nothing more than an export of the data and metadata. Many experts don't even consider it a backup. I'm sure SQL Server provides the same functionality though they probably call it by some other name.
    5. Both provide High Availability.Well, I guess they both have a suite of features they refer to as "High Availability". But what does that really mean? The devil is in the details. Remember, the two products don't even agree on what constitutes a "database".
    6. Both come in various distributions.???

    If you are going for an Implementation, you can try SQL Server Express Edition and Oracle XE which are free to use.
    Then you can choose whichever is comfortable for your needs.

  • Java based Chat console works fine, but does not automatically scroll down to last chat item

    Hi,
    I am currently facing a problem with a Chat program using jsp (Java Server Pages) where the chat console works perfect except for one little thing.
    The chat window does not automatically scroll down to the last reply in the chat window.
    the code used to scroll down to the last items (based on Netscape) is the following:
    <pre><nowiki>if (navigator.appName.indexOf("Netscape") != -1) {
    isOther = (navigator.appVersion.substring(0,1) == "3");
    isNS4 = (navigator.appVersion.substring(0,1) == "4");
    isNS6 = (navigator.appVersion.substring(0,1) == "5");
    } else if (navigator.appName.indexOf("Microsoft Internet Explorer") != -1) {
    isIE = true;
    } else if (navigator.appName.indexOf("Opera") != -1) {
    isOpera = true;
    } else {
    isOther = true;
    if (navigator.platform.indexOf("Mac") != -1)
    isMac = true;
    if (isOther)
    alert("Sorry but you will have to upgrade your browser to NS4+ or IE4+ for this to work properly.");
    function setScrollProperties() {
    if (isMac) {
    scrollStart = 0;
    scrollEnd = answerFrame.document.height - scrollStart;
    } else {
    scrollStart = 0;
    scrollEnd = answerFrame.document.height - scrollStart;
    function doScroll() {
    documentYposition += scrollAmount;
    window.scrollTo(0,documentYposition);
    if (documentYposition < scrollEnd) {
    setTimeout('doScroll()',slowScrollInterval);
    }else if (moreScrolling){
    moreScrolling = false;
    scrolling = false;
    startScroll();
    }else{
    scrolling = false;
    }</nowiki></pre>
    I cannot see what goes wrong in here and the manufacturer does not know how to fix this either.
    Irritatingly this scrolling function is working normally in IE, Chrome and some other browsers.
    I sure hope you can help me, as this is a very irritating problem that needs to be solved.
    Best regards,
    Corné Snoek

    Hi,
    sorry for such a late reply. I tried modifying the java bean to resize the JScrollPane object also but even that didn't work. Then I hardcoded the size of my Java Bean in my forms code by trial and error. For example, the size of the bean area was 381x169. The values that I had to pass to the "setSize" bean method were 510x195. This made the bean exactly fit the bean area. Seems crazy to me, but there it is.
    Anyway, thank you.

  • Deleted failed DC from the domain (Server 2012 R2) - Now after doing metadata and DNS cleanup, I can no longer promote a new DC to the domain

    I work for a university and teach IT courses to undergrad and graduate students. The details below are pertaining an isolated lab environment
    I had a storage failure in my lab and the DCs became corrupt. This is a university lab environment so there isn't anything crucial on here. I just would rather avoid rebuilding the domain/forest and would rather use this as a learning experience with my
    students...
    So after the storage failed and was restored, the VMs hosted became corrupt. I did a NTDSUTIL to basically repair the NDTS.dit file but one of my DCs reverted to a state before DC promotion. Naturally, the domain still had this object in AD. After numerous
    failed attempts at trying to reinstall the DC on the server through the server manager wizard in 2012 R2, I decided that a metadata cleanup of the old failed object was necessary.
    Utilizing this article, I removed all references of the failed DC from both AD and DNS (http://www.petri.com/delete_failed_dcs_from_ad.htm)
    So now that the failed object is removed completely from the domain and the metadata cleanup was successful, I then proceeded to re-install the necessary AD DS role on the server and re-promote to the existing domain. Pre-Requisites pass but generate some
    warning around DNS Delgation, and Dynamic Updates (delegation is ignored because the lab is isolated from external comms, and dynamic updates are in fact enabled on both my _msdcs and root domain zones).
    Upon the promotion process, I get the following error message (also worth mentioning - the account performing these operations is a member of DA, EA, and Schema Admins)
    The operation failed because:
    Active Directory Domain Services could not create the NTDS Settings object for this Active Directory Domain Controller CN=NTDS Settings,CN=domainVMDC1,CN=Servers,CN=Default-

    "While processing a change to the DNS Host Name for an object, the Service Principal Name values could not be kept in sync."
    As you can see, this error seems odd considering. Now that I'm down to a single DC and DNS server, the sync should be corrected. I've run a repadmin /syncall and it completed successfully. Since then, I've run dcdiags and dumped those to a text as well and

    From what I can gather, there is a definite DNS issue but I don't have any stale records to the old DC stored anywhere. I've tried this with a new server as well and get similar errors...
    At this rate I'm ready to rebuild the entire forest over again. I'm just reluctant to do so as I want to make this a learning experience for the students.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    As you can see, there seems to be some errors. The one that I did correct was the one around the _msdcs NS record being unable to resolve. For whatever, reason the name wasn't resolving the IP but all other NS tabs and records were. Just that one _msdcs
    sub-zone. Furthermore, the mentioning of any connections to root hint servers can be viewed as false positives. There is no external comms to this lab so no communication with outside IPs can be expected. Lastly, they mentioned a connectivity issue yet mention
    that I should check the firewall settings. All three profiles are disabled in Windows Firewall (as they have been the entire time). Thank you in advance for your help!

  • A Global Catalog Server could not be located - All GC's are down SBS 2011

    I have been searching through these forums and manage to find similar errors but am struggling to find an answer that applies to this me.
    I seem to be having a number of issues with our SBS. I believe this was originally domain was previously on a SBS 2003 box before being moved to this SBS 2011 box last year, it has been running fine until yesterday. I cant see anything that has changed then
    though.
    Everything seems to point to DNS although I am struggling to pinpoint the actual cause. The most worrying is when I try to open something on the SBS such as AD sites and services.
    the error is
    Active Directory Domain Services - Naming information cannot be located because: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. Contact your system administrator to verify that your domain is properly configured and
    is currently online.

    I found a few people who have had similar issues that was caused by the "netlogon" service being paused or stopped but in my case it is set to automatically start and is running.
    I have also posted this to serverfault  (cant post links yet serverfault.com/questions/522691/a-global-catalog-server-could-not-be-located-all-gcs-are-down) added as there may be info there that may help.
    Thanks for taking the time to read this, hopefully someone out there has come across this before or can offer something in regards to the next steps I should take.

    Some troubleshooting ideas:
    0. Check if the DCs can resolve each other using their DNSHostName. If not, this indicates some DNS misconfiguration
    -- you need to fix that first.
    1. Check if the both the DCs are pointing to the same DNS server (or DNS servers that are replica of each
    other). Run: "ipconfig /all" and check its output. If not, correct the DNS client settings and run dcdiag after sometime.
    2. Check if dynamic updates are "turned on" on the DNS server.
    3. Try re-registering the DCs SRV records by either restarting netlogon service or by running the following
    command:
         nltest.exe /dsregdns
