If statements with a String  ????

hi, im using a JSP page which takes in a username and password and that info is then sent to a servlet which connects to the database and checks to see which type of user they are. the servlet then redirects them to the page that corresponds to the typ of user they are. everything works fine except for it keeps going to the LoginError page. heres my code for the if statement:
if (acType=="TournamentOwner")
response.sendRedirect("http://localhost:8080/TournamentOwnerPage.jsp");
else if (acType=="TeamManager")
response.sendRedirect("http://localhost:8080/TeamManagerPage.jsp");
else if (acType=="Operator")
response.sendRedirect("http://localhost:8080/OperatorPage.jsp");
else
response.sendRedirect("http://localhost:8080/LoginError.jsp");
ive also tried
if (acType == ' TournamentOwner ' )
if (acType.equals( "TournamentOwner" ))
if(acType.length( ) == 15)
ive also tried it with comparing it to a variable with the same name...
String tour = "TournamentOwner";
if (acType == tour )
the whole thing works fine except it keeps going to the LoginError jsp page.
the acType variable successfully stores the value of the account type so thats working fine.
the problem must be in the if statement. can anyone help me out?

  • SQL Prepared Statement with a string parameter including a colon

    Hello everybody,
    I'm recently experiencing a problem using Prepared SQL Statements if one of the parameter is a string containing a ":" (colon).
    I'm able to insert a date (as a string) record using the format "hh:mm" into a MySQL database table but when I execute the query I cannot retrieve the record.
    Does anyone know any problem with ":" character?
    Replacing ":" with "." solves the problem...
    Thanks a lot.

    Huh?
    One of the points in using PreparedStatements is that they handle the formatting for you. You shouldn't be setting dates with String values at all. Create a java.sql.Date (or timestamp or time as the case may be) and use the appropriate setXXX method of PreparedStatement. If you have String values then you can use SimpleDateFormat to parse them into dates.

    Are you trying to start your script from within SQL*Plus?
    Afraid no. Because the prompt "Please enter a value for ..." sounds suspicious.
    C:\my.sql
    conn max/&p_password@pdoxora
    grant select on test to public;Copy-paste from SQL*Plus:
    SQL> @C:\my.sql
    Enter value for p_password: *******
    Connected.
    Grant succeeded.In other words, SQL*Plus prompts "Enter value", not "Please enter a value".
    So what tool are you using?

  • Java Switch Statement with Strings

    Apparently you cant make a switch statement with strings in java. What is the most efficient way to rewrite this code to make it function similar to a swtich statement with strings?
    switch (type){
                   case "pounds":
                        type = "weight";
                        break;
                   case "ounces":
                        type = "weight";
                        break;
                   case "grams":
                        type = "weight";
                        break;
                   case "fluid ounces":
                        type = "liquid";
                        break;
                   case "liters":
                        type = "liquid";
                        break;
                   case "gallons":
                        type = "liquid";
                        break;
                   case "cups":
                        type = "liquid";
                        break;
                   case "teaspoons":
                        type = "liquid";
                        break;
                   case "tablespoons":
                        type = "liquid";
                        break;
              }

    I'd create a Map somewhere with entries "liquid", "weight", etc.
    public class Converter {
        private static Map<String, List<String>> unitMap = new HashMap<String, List<String>>();
        private static String[] LIQUID_UNITS = { "pints", "gallons", "quarts", "millilitres" };
        private static String[] WEIGHT_UNITS = { "pounds", "ounces", "grams" };
        static {
            List<String> liquidUnits = new ArrayList<String>();
            for (int i = 0; i < LIQUID_UNITS.length; i++) liquidUnits.add(LIQUID_UNITS));
    unitMap.put("liquid", liquidUnits);
    ... // other unit types here
    public String findUnitType(String unit) {
    for (String unitType : unitMap.keySet()) {
    List<String> unitList = unitMap.get(unitType);
    if (unitList.contains(unit))
    return unitType;
    return null;
    It might not be more "efficient", but it's certainly quite readable, and supports adding new units quite easily. And it's a lot shorter than the series of if/else-ifs that you would have to do otherwise. You'll probably want to include a distinction between imperial/metric units, but maybe you don't need it.

  • Error while replacing IF statements with DECODE function in procedure

    Hi All,
    I have created a procedure which has nested IF statements. Now I want to replace the IF statements with DECODE functions to improve performance.
    Procedure:
    IF (var_int_sev = '0')
    THEN
    var_sev := '2';
    ELSE
    SELECT sev
    INTO var_int_sev
    FROM errorconfig
    WHERE errorcode = var_errorcode;
    var_sev := var_int_sev;
    END IF;
    I converted the above IF statement into DECODE function as mentioned below:
    var_Sev := DECODE(var_int_sev,0,2,SELECT severity FROM errorconfig WHERE errorcode=var_ErrorCode)
    But it throws below error at the select statement used inside DECODE.
    Error(58,51): PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "SELECT" when expecting one of the following: ( - + case mod new not null others <an identifier> <a double-quoted delimited-identifier> <a bind variable> avg count current exists max min prior sql stddev sum variance execute forall merge time timestamp interval date <a string literal with character set specification> <a number> <a single-quoted SQL string> pipe <an alternatively-quoted string literal with character set specification> <an alternativ
    Can someone help me in converting the IF to DECODE in the above case. Also how can we use a select statement inside decode.

    instead of trying to rewrite all your code and hoping that the performance will be better, it's a better option to investigate and find out which part of your application is slow

  • How to use parameterized statements with labSQL?

    Hi everybody,
    I have a big problem with labSQL. Every statement or query I have to use in my program works correctly, but I have a performance problem when writing my data to the database. The problem is the handling of the SQL statements by the DB. The solution will be the use of parameterized statements with labSQL.
    The manual for NI Labview Database Connectivity Toolkit provides such information, but there are large differences to labSQL, and I don't get the clue. Is anybody able and would be so kind to help me? If someone has an example for using parameterized SQL statements with labSQL or the ADO methods for such stuff, please be so kind to share it with me.
    Thank you for reading all of this
    Best regards,
    Matthias

    Thank you very much for your help. I already had set up the correct SQL statement and created the parameters but got errors when executing the command object. After some tries I found that neither the SQL statement nor the parameters were the source of the error, as I had expected first.
    The problem was that I was sending the wrong data type to the execute method of the command object. It expected some variant input for the parameters. I send an array of strings, which caused an error. I casted that array to variant with the same result. But a single string to variant worked well (with only one parameter in the SQL statement). The easy solution was to cast all strings to variants, and then build an array out of them. The execute method worked with that. Now the transaction is 4 times faster than before
    Thanks again!
    Edit:
    If someone is interested in some example VI, please let me know. I should have some time next week to build one.

  • Executing multiple DDL statements with OracleCommand

    hi..
    im having trouble executing multiple ddl statements with the the oracle command object. i have tried to enclose them within Begin.. End; block but with no use.
    this problem seems to occur only with DDL statements,.. as my DML like update, delete and Inserts seem to work fine when enclosed within the PL /SQL block.
    single DDL statements also seem to work fine. so im guessing this has nothing to do with priviledges. any ideas?
    my code as follows
    OracleCommand command = new OracleCommand();
    command.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
    command.CommandText = string.Format(@"{0}",script);
    conn.Open();
    command.Connection = conn;
    command.ExecuteNonQuery();
    the script is read from a file, and looks like this. (note : i have removed any line breaks or any other characters)
    BEGIN ALTER TABLE SYSTEMUSER DISABLE CONSTRAINT FK_USER_CLIENT; ALTER TRIGGER SET_SUBSCRIPTION_SUB_I DISABLE; END;
    this is the error i get.
    Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException: ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
    PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "ALTER" when expecting one of the following:
    begin case declare exit for goto if loop mod null pragma
    raise return select update while with <an identifier>
    <a double-quoted delimited-identifier> <a bind variable> <<
    close current delete fetch lock insert open rollback
    savepoint set sql execute commit forall merge pipe.

    If I'm not mistaken, we're not allowed to issue DDL inside anonymoue block (or stored procedure) since DDL has implicit commit in it. But you still can execute DDL using EXECUTE IMMEDIATE or using DBMS_SQL package. Try changing your CommandText like this,
    BEGIN
       EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER TABLE SYSTEMUSER DISABLE CONSTRAINT FK_USER_CLIENT';
       EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER TRIGGER SET_SUBSCRIPTION_SUB_I DISABLE';
    END;Hope this helps,

  • How to use a select statement with chinese characters?

    I am currently developing a java servlet<using tomcat 4.x> which allows me to use select statement to retrieve results from the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database. I am using a simple form to get the parameter for querying. The main problem i'm facing is that there are chinese information in the SQL database, but i can't retrieve it through the sql statement with the chinese characters input<thru the form with the help of NJ STAR>in the WHERE condition. When i execute the statement, it returns me no results even though the rows are present in the database.
    Does anyone have the solution to using chinese words in the WHERE clause of the select statement to retrieve results with columns which contains chinese characters? Please help me. Thanks everyone. :)
    PS: when i cut and paste those characters in the sql database and paste onto java.. it is ??? in questionmarks.. but when i paste them into excel 2000.. its shown as chinese chars again..
    please heelppp~~

    Greetings,
    PS: when i cut and paste those characters in thesql
    database and paste onto java.. it is ??? in
    questionmarks.. but when i paste them into excelThis is why the SELECT is not returning any results.
    You need to set the character encoding set on your
    statement and parameters for the characters to be
    properly translated. Refer to the charsetName
    parameter in the String class constructor in your API
    docs and also to
    $JDK_DOCS/guide/intl/encoding.doc.html in your JDK
    documentation.
    2000.. its shown as chinese chars again..Because Office programs are performing the same kind
    of character translation with the appropriate MS APIs.
    please heelppp~~Regards,
    Tony "Vee Schade" Cookis it possible for you to show me some coding examples? i don't really understand what is to be done in order to set the char set and what does it really do.. tried reading up but still dun understand.. :(

    ok..
    The thing is when i used an insert statement with chinese characters of GBK format hardcoded into the java servlet and then i use the insert statement to insert the chars into the database, it cannot be seen as a chinese word when i off the NJStar. and then it can be searched out with my current form of servlet.. below is my coding of the servlet..

  • Help with comparing string array with parameters

    I've posted my code in full so hopefully everyone can see exactly what I have been doing.
    Note - my code uses the observer/observable model. The method I am having the problem with the if statement is in the class HSBC.
    Basically when the pin count reaches 4 (in the atm class) it sends the userid & pincode) over to the checkPinAndUserId(String pinCode, String userCode) method. Here the if statement should check the userid to see if the string parameter matches a string in the array. If it does it should check in the same position in the pin array to check the pin no is correct and then return true.

    I wasn't trying to annoy anyone at all.
    I'm new to java and have been told that using the observer/observable model is not considered basic java. So that is the only reason I posted it in this section. At the same time i feel that the bit I'm struggling with is actually basic - hence posting it in the basic section. I'm not sure if people of all abilities check all forums or just the ones they feel at at their standard.
    So appologies if you've taken offence.

    Page 2
    A table drops down of claims
    A claim is selected to view
    Page 3
    Claim is shown
    Page 4
    Return to start
    Close form
    The error occurs when returning to the view claim page before closing form. I believe the problem is that the script does not find the button to view claims. On this second visit the form has reverted back to it original state with drop down table has gone. Whether it’s that that confusing the script I don’t know.
    This is the line from the script
    http.solveGroupJavaScript(http.javaScriptPath(
                                  "web.jscript.httpseformssitchris_21", 1, 3, 2, 0));
    And this is the post line
    http
                                                                     .param("source",
                                                                               "{{web.jscript.httpseformssitchris_21,form1:commandButton1}}"),
    The hidden button to view claims is called commandButton1. I refer to it as a hidden as it is hidden in a bar that runs across the form.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I have found out how to edit my script
    comment out the first line and the post line should be
    .param("source","form1:commandButton1")),
         /*"{{web.jscript.httpseformssitchris_21,form1:commandButton1}}")),*/
    I do not fuuly understand this but it worked.
    I hope this may help others

  • Set Session State with Shuttle items

    Is it possible to have session state set with each item selected in a shuttle? You have a shuttle with 4 possible options, you select item 2 from the left portion of shuttle and it is moved to the right.. Can you set the session state at that point?
    What I am trying to do is take the session state after change in the control and use it to populate a text field below. The returned values are used in a sql select to populate the text box with a looked up value...
    Thank you,

    Won't this just push the last items value in, as apposed to appending the value?
    Tony,
    No. Because for shuttle items the return value is stored as colon delimited string.
    Means after each change you will have a colon delimited string in the session state with selected values(moved to right).

  • Prepared Statement with ORDER BY

    I am trying to use order by with prepared statement but it is not ordering.
    String sql = "SELECT * FROM MATERIAL WHERE (LOWER(NAMEE) LIKE ('%' || ? || '%') ORDER BY ? ";
    PreparedStatement ps=CM.getStatement(sql);
    ps.setString(1,p);
    ps.setString(2,sort);
              ResultSet r = ps.executeQuery();
    Can any one tell me how do I use prepared statement with order by

    You can not parameterize column names and such, only literals. You should build the ORDER BY clause dynamically.

  • Replacing a special character in a string with another string

    Hi
    I need to replace a special character in a string with another string.
    Say there is a string -  "abc's def's are alphabets"
    and i need to replace all the ' (apostrophe) with &apos& ..which should look like as below
    "abc&apos&s def&apos&s are alphabets" .
    Kindly let me know how this requirement can be met.
    Regards

    REPLACE
    Syntax Forms
    Pattern-based replacement
    1. REPLACE [{FIRST OCCURRENCE}|{ALL OCCURRENCES} OF]
    pattern
              IN [section_of] dobj WITH new
              [IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE]
              [{RESPECTING|IGNORING} CASE]
              [REPLACEMENT COUNT rcnt]
              { {[REPLACEMENT OFFSET roff]
                 [REPLACEMENT LENGTH rlen]}
              | [RESULTS result_tab|result_wa] }.
    Position-based replacement
    2. REPLACE SECTION [OFFSET off] [LENGTH len] OF dobj WITH new
                      [IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE].
    Effect
    This statement replaces characters or bytes of the variable dobj by characters or bytes of the data object new. Here, position-based and pattern-based replacement are possible.
    When the replacement is executed, an interim result without a length limit is implicitly generated and the interim result is transferred to the data object dobj. If the length of the interim result is longer than the length of dobj, the data is cut off on the right in the case of data objects of fixed length. If the length of the interim result is shorter than the length of dobj, data objects of fixed length are filled to the right with blanks or hexadecimal zeroes. Data objects of variable length are adjusted. If data is cut off to the right when the interim result is assigned, sy-subrc is set to 2.
    In the case of character string processing, the closing spaces are taken into account for data objects dobj of fixed length; they are not taken into account in the case of new.
    System fields
    sy-subrc Meaning
    0 The specified section or subsequence was replaced by the content of new and the result is available in full in dobj.
    2 The specified section or subsequence was replaced in dobj by the contents of new and the result of the replacement was cut off to the right.
    4 The subsequence in sub_string was not found in dobj in the pattern-based search.
    8 The data objects sub_string and new contain double-byte characters that cannot be interpreted.
    Note
    These forms of the statement REPLACE replace the following obsolete form:
    REPLACE sub_string WITH
    Syntax
    REPLACE sub_string WITH new INTO dobj
            [IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE]
            [LENGTH len].
    Extras:
    1. ... IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE
    2. ... LENGTH len
    Effect
    This statement searches through a byte string or character string dobj for the subsequence specified in sub_string and replaces the first byte or character string in dobj that matches sub_string with the contents of the data object new.
    The memory areas of sub_string and new must not overlap, otherwise the result is undefined. If sub_string is an empty string, the point before the first character or byte of the search area is found and the content of new is inserted before the first character.
    During character string processing, the closing blank is considered for data objects dobj, sub_string and new of type c, d, n or t.
    System Fields
    sy-subrc Meaning
    0 The subsequence in sub_string was replaced in the target field dobj with the content of new.
    4 The subsequence in sub_string could not be replaced in the target field dobj with the contents of new.
    Note
    This variant of the statement REPLACE will be replaced, beginning with Release 6.10, with a new variant.
    Addition 1
    ... IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE
    Effect
    The optional addition IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE determines whether byte or character string processing will be executed. If the addition is not specified, character string processing is executed. Depending on the processing type, the data objects sub_string, new, and dobj must be byte or character type.
    Addition 2
    ... LENGTH len
    Effect
    If the addition LENGTH is not specified, all the data objects involved are evaluated in their entire length. If the addition LENGTH is specified, only the first len bytes or characters of sub_string are used for the search. For len, a data object of the type i is expected.
    If the length of the interim result is longer than the length of dobj, data objects of fixed length will be cut off to the right. If the length of the interim result is shorter than the length of dobj, data objects of fixed length are filled to the right with blanks or with hexadecimal 0. Data objects of variable length are adapted.
    Example
    After the replacements, text1 contains the complete content "I should know that you know", while text2 has the cut-off content "I should know that".
    DATA:   text1      TYPE string       VALUE 'I know you know',
            text2(18)  TYPE c LENGTH 18  VALUE 'I know you know',
            sub_string TYPE string       VALUE 'know',
            new        TYPE string       VALUE 'should know that'.
    REPLACE sub_string WITH new INTO text1.
    REPLACE sub_string WITH new INTO text2.

  • Writting a SQL statement with Java

    Hello,
    I would like to perform an interrogation of my database but I have some trouble... here is the code I use (with MySQL) :
    String requete = "SELECT * FROM produit WHERE NomChimique ='butanol'";
    rs = stmt.executeQuery (requete); With this requete I find the record I have in my db. But with the following string the record is not found String requete = "SELECT * FROM produit WHERE NomChimique ='(+)-2-BUTANOL'";What I have not understand ?
    Thank you for your help,
    Jean-Marie

    I perform a first SELECT statement without WHERE,
    then I copy and past the value of the two exemples I
    give, the first succed, the second not...
    I am a little bit disappointed
    Jean-Marieyou should only be disappointed in yourself. this is NOT a Java problem. this is a Jean-Marie problem.
    one of the following is true...
    - the record does not exist
    - you are fouling up the result set handling and not noticing the record
    - something is going wrong with your query parsing
    So...
    make sure it exists.
    make sure you are connecting to the database you think you are.
    check over your result set code
    use preparedstatements
    ff all those fail then post your code (USING THE CODE TAGS) and someone will be delighted to help.
