IFrame vs Include jsp

Hi,
Can anyone help me in measuring the pros and cos of iFrames and JSP include or can refer me a place where i can find the details regarding the same.
Thankx in advance

Hi,
Can anyone help me in measuring the pros and cos of
iFrames and JSP include IFrames are more flexible. They can be used after the intial load of the page. JSP includes are adding another page to the body of the page calling the include. Plus they are two different technologies. IFrames are a client side function and JSP includes are a server side function. It really depends on what you are trying to do.

  • How to access a variable from a dynamically included JSP page

    I have a jsp (say main.jsp) using the following in its code :
    <jsp:include page="menu.jsp" flush="true" />
    I have a variable in menu.jsp which I would like to use in my main.jsp.
    How do I get the value of the variable defined in menu.jsp ?
    I called this variable in menu.jsp, Public, but this didnot help me use the value of that variable in main.jsp
    Any help is highly appreciated.. thnks a lot

    I do notice the variable var1 has the value populated - in menu.jsp - (from View -->
    Source in the browser) but for some reason not able to use it in main.jspI'm not quite sure of the way your jsps are structured from your code snippet but I think there is something to be aware of here that may be part of your problem, namely the difference between the include directive and the include action.
    You are currently using the include action, this treats the included resource as a dynamic object - i.e. a request is sent to that resource and the resulting response is included in your page. So when you think of what there is no java variable actually included - you'll just get the resulting HTML that is generated by menu.jsp
    The include directive, as in <%@include file=menu.jsp %>, on the other hand treats the resource as a static object. This means the actual bytes in the included resource are inserted into the including jsp and then the result of that is compiled and processed, effectively you are cutting and pasting the menu.jsp into your calling jsp. In this case the variable would be available to the calling jsp.
    However this approach does bring other difficulties that may break your current code, you'll just have to try it and see what happens.
    Hope that's relevant to your problem,
    Matt

  • Can't open a jsp in a pop up or iframe from another jsp in the same portlet

    Hi There,
    I have a simple struts portlet "MNPPortlet" it contains some JSPs as the below hirearchy
    MNPPortlet
    WebContent
    pages
    A.jsp
    B.jsp
    I just want to open B.jsp in a popup window or in an iframe from A.jsp, I have tried the following
    1- window.open("B.jsp")
    2- <IFRAME src="B.jsp">
    but it doesn't seem to work, I always get 404 page not found error, since it generates wrong URLs, any ideas how can i get the right URIs generated ?
    P.S. it's working fine as struts application, not portlet
    Thanks alot

    Thanks guys for reply
    @Sadhu, yes this works <%=request.getContextPath()%>/<location of your Jsp>/B.jsp
    but i thought i can get something to generate the location of my jsp (the portlet module folder) dynamically, since the page I'm referring to is on the same location of the caller page
    @Kevin, I have tried <render:resourceUrl path="B.jsp" /> but this only gets localhost:7001/b.jsp
    I have tried also <render:resourceUrl contextualPath="B.jsp" /> this gets the url with the context root appended localhost:7001/applicationRoot/b.jsp
    both of them didn't get the complete URL
    the only thing that works is using <render:getJspUri> to get the URI of the page I'm in , then appending the "B.jsp" to this , is this really the only way ?
    what about netui ?
    Sorry but I'm beginner on weblogic portal, really appreciate your help :)

  • Included JSP files not seeing JavaScript in main JSP file

    Hi All,
    I have a JSP page that defines a JavaScript block in it's HEAD block and then includes multiple JSP pages in it's BODY block. Calling a JavaScript function from any of the included JSP pages is met with the following JavaScript error:
    JavaScript Error: [unknown origin]:
    showBatchDetail is not defined.
    I'm not sure what is wrong here since the JSP is generating on the server side and everything is fine by the time it gets to the client side. The entire client side file should be seeing the JavaScript block that was included in the main file.
    Any help here would be much appreciated.
    Steph.
    Some barebones code appears below:
    Main.jsp
    <HTML>

    <TITLE>UNIT INFO</TITLE>
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
    function showBatchDetail(batchKey)
    var url = "/pditools/html/SfmReports/ShowBatchDetail.jsp"
    + "?batchKey=" + batchKey;
    document.location = url;
    </SCRIPT>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <%@include file="ShowBatchSummary.jsp"%>
    <%@include file="ShowUnitDefects.jsp"%>
    <%@include file="ShowUnitHistory.jsp"%>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    ShowBatchSummary.jsp
    <TABLE>

    </TD>
    </TR>
    <TR>
    Show some data ...
    </TR>
    </TABLE>

    The problem is not about include but about link use
    ----ShowBatchSummary.jsp----
    <TABLE>

    <A TARGET="_blank" HREF="#" onclick="JavaScript:showBatchDetail(1000);">(Batch Detail)</A>

  • How we can use jsf tags in included jsp enclosed in subview tags

    Hello everybody,
    I am developing web app by using jsf. I am including a jsp page "header.jsp" into another jsp page "main.jsp". The header.jsp page is enclosed in jsf subview tag on main.jsp page. The header.jsp contains some static html code and some jsf tags like "outputText". When i added tag library url in header.jsp then my app was not even not initiating and i was getting following exception
    ERROR [UIComponentTag] Faces context not found. getResponseWriter will fail. Check if the FacesServlet has been initialized at all in your web.xml.

    ....Now i removed jsf tag library url from included jsp "header.jsp" so now my app is running but only static html data is being displayed but the value in the jsf tag "outputText" is not being printed in the browser
    kindly help me. i would be very thankful....

  • ADF Question: included jsp action firing after page load

    Hi all,
    I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3 and ADF + BC.
    Here is another interesting situation for you. I have a page with an included jsp at the top with tabbed navigation.
    My page is for entering an order. Users can have multiple orders "open" in other tabs at the same time. Users can also have many other non-order pages opened in tabs. We are using the same View Objects (Entity Based) along with Transient View Objects on each order.
    Each order tab needs to "remember" the orderId so that when the user clicks on a tab, the appropriate rows are set in the order that is to be "opened". This occurs in a tab's action() - setting the orderId and forwarding to the appropriate page (if different) or reloading the same page with the new id.
    On page load we try to get the tab's orderId and load that as the current row of all of our view objects. This should make it seem like they are all concurrently running.
    The problem is when going from order to order, once the tab is clicked, the page's OnPageLoad method runs BEFORE the action of the tab click is processed. Therefore the order that loads thinks it is the previous order, and does not load the correct View Object rows.
    Does anyone know how we can force the tab action to occur before the page load so that we can get the proper orderId?
    Thanks,
    Heather

    Thanks for your speedy reply Frank,
    We are using the onPageLoad from the OnPageLoadBackingBeanBase which implements the PagePhaseListener.
    In this we are doing something like:
            if (isPostback()) {
                String selectedTabNum =
                    EL.getAsString("#{TabCounter.currentSelectedTab}");
                String test = EL.getAsString("#{TabCounter.tabOrderId" + selectedTabNum + "}");
                System.out.println("tab num " + selectedTabNum);
                System.out.println( "testing " + test );
            }our tab counter (a session bean) has these two methods (among others):
        public void setCurrentSelectedTab(int currentSelectedTab) {
            this.currentSelectedTab = currentSelectedTab;
            for(int i=1;i<= 20; i++) {
                EL.set(BACKING_START+"selectedTab"+i+"}", false);
            EL.set(BACKING_START+"selectedTab"+currentSelectedTab+"}", true);
        public String getNextAvailableTab () {
            for(int i=2;i<=20;i++) {
                boolean isTab = (new Boolean (String.valueOf(EL.get(BACKING_START+"render"+i+"}")))).booleanValue();
                if (!isTab) {
                    return String.valueOf(i);
            return "0";
        }our tab header (request bean) has this method as the action for clicking a tab:
            System.out.println("handleTabNavigation");
            String componentId = actionEvent.getComponent().getId();
            String selectedTab = componentId.replaceFirst("tab","");
            int selectedTabNum = new Integer(selectedTab).intValue();
            EL.set("#{TabCounter.currentSelectedTab}", selectedTabNum);
            String tabType = EL.getAsString("#{TabCounter.tabType"+selectedTabNum+"}");
            if (tabType.equals("regular")) {
                String orderId = EL.getAsString("#{TabCounter.tabOrderId"+selectedTabNum+"}");
                EL.set("#{processScope.unfinishedHeaderId}", orderId);
            } else if (tabType.equals("standing")) {
                String orderId = EL.getAsString("#{TabCounter.tabOrderId"+selectedTabNum+"}");
            }Thanks,

  • How do I add an included jsp to my project and not get a compile error?

    Hi,
    I have a project with some included jsp's however if I add them to the project, when I build I get a compile error as the jsp uses variables from the calling jsp.
    Any ideas on how to get round this.
    Thanks
    DM

    There are two main ways that I deal with this problem (yeah, it sucks, but it sort of makes sense that it happens...) (I presume you're talking static include here...)
    #1 - name the included file with an extension that JDev will not try to compile (.jspf - for JSP Fragment - is common) Then it will be compiled in with the including page, but won't gag the project compilation. Advantage - it works, and you find out at compile time if you hosed up the variable reference. Disadvantage: JDev tries really, really, really hard to keep you from naming a JSP file with an extension of .jspf I normally create the .jsp file in JDev, remove it from the project, rename the file outside of JDeveloper, then add it back to the project - pain in the butt, but it works (and you probably aren't building scads of these included files...)
    #2 - add the variable to be referenced to the pageContext implicit object as an attribute in your including page (ex, <% pageContext.setAttribute("myVar", myVar); %>), then reference that attribute in your included JSP (ex, <%= pageContext.getAttribute("myVar") %>) . It will compile fine (as the compiler has no way of knowing if the pageContext attribute actually exists, it just sees that the syntax is good and motors along merrily. Advantage: don't have to have differently named JSP files (which isn't actually a big deal). Disadvantage: You hvae to add the variable to the pageContext (and you have to always add Object derivatives, as primitives won't go into a hash) and you don't find out if you screwed the variable up until runtime (when it tries the getAttribute, which could return null if you didn't properly set it to start with) vs at compile-time w/ the direct reference.
    HTH!

  • Including jsp form in multiple jsps

    Hi
    I have a requirement to include a common jsp form in several other jsps that live in different web applications. For e.g. there is test_form.jsp taht I can access via http://www.test.com/common/test_form.jsp. There are several other jsps /app1/call_test1.jsp , /app2/call_test1.jsp taht need to include the /common/test_form.jsp. These jsps just provide different look with specific images etc.. We also need the pages to be accessed via those specific urls.
    The form is showing fine. But when I submit the included form, I am submitting to the wrapper jsp(say /app1/call_test1.jsp which I am passing as aparam to teh include), if any validation errors its supposed to show on /app1/call_test1.jsp. But its not showing them. If I call the include jsp separately in the browser, its working fine. How can I get the form errors dispalyed on the wrppaer.jsp??
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks

    <option value="pineapple">pineapple</option>

    if i select apple, orange,mango and cherry and submit it to the database field 'fruit', only 'apple' gets inserted. none others.
    this is the the line where it is processing the value.
    String fruit=request.getParameter("fruit");

  • Include jsp versus seperate class/bean versus taglib

    Hi friends,
    I am working on Servlet/JSP project. There are large no. of jsp pages. A common set of methods get repeated in all the jsp pages. Now my concen is to separate out the methods in a file and then use it in jsp page.
    Kindly suggest me the right path to follow, taking into consideration that we take up the optimized solution and performance-wise also feasible.
    Whether I should go for
    1. Using 'include jsp'
    2. using 'taglib'
    3. creating a seperate utility class with the required methods and 'import' it in the JSP pages.
    Kindly reply ASAP.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.

    I would suggest you should go for user defined tags.
    This would ensure that the business functionality is isolated from your web objects and it would be modular to maintain.
    Using simple classes will add java code to your JSP pages, which makes them less readable.
    Apart from that implicit object creation by the Servlet/JSP engine(which are instantiating and garbage collecting the taglib objects) will be more efficient.
    Hope this helps
    regards

  • Include jsp file

    There are 2 jsp files: main.jsp, process.jsp.
    In the main.jsp,
    String name="java";
    <jsp:include page="process.jsp" flush="true" />
    .....In the process.jsp,
    String name="abc";
    ....My problem is the parameter - name have not changed to "abc" .
    How can I solve this problem ?
    thanks.

    Hi,
    Dont think that it should happen like that, the diffrence between <jsp:include> and <%@ include> is that jsp:include is a dymanic include i.e. the processed contents of the jsp flie are added to your page, while @ include is a static include meaning that the contents are first put together as one big jsp and then the contents are processed.
    That is why the original jsp is recompiled, and your server should automatically determine that when a parent jsp is to be recompiled when a included jsp is changed. What server are you using?
    And as in jsp:include the processed result (html) is added the variable declairations or manipulations in a child will not be accesable in the parent, while they will be in case of @include.
    Hope this helps

  • Passing parameters to included JSP files using JSF

    I have included JSP, which I use in many other JSP files. I want to display message in this included JSP which depends on the information in JSP files which include this JSP. How can I do this without using scriptlets?

    I have one included page in one jsp page(mother page). I have included it by jsp:include tag. The included page consists of two inputText. I need to pass the parameters of the mother page together with the parameters in the included page in the backingBean of the mother page. Hope this one is clearer.
    The code snippet in the mother page looks like this
    <jsp:include page="/pages/ps/sample_rep2.jsp"/>.
    In the sample_rep2.jsp, I have two inputText. How can I pass this in the backingBean of the motherpage.
    The sample_rep2.jsp is the included page here. The sample_rep2.jsp looks like this:

  • Problems with managed beans on included JSPs

    I've got a problem with managed beans within an included JSP
    The included page looks as follows:
    <f:subview id="includedPage" binding="#{testBean.component}">
         <h:outputText value="Hallo from the included page"/>
         <h:outputText value="#{testBean.msg}" />
    </f:subview>The including page is also very simple
    <f:view>
         <html>
              <head>
                   <title>Test include</title>
              </head>
              <body>
                   <h:outputText value="Hello from the including page"/>
                   <jsp:include page="included.jsp"/>
              </body>
         </html>
    </f:view>The testBean is a managed bean with page scope and looks as follows:
    public class TestBean {
        public UIComponent fComponent;
        public TestBean() {
            System.out.println("TestBean Constructor called " + toString() );
        public String getMsg() {
            return "Component = " + fComponent ;
        public void setComponent(UIComponent component) {
            System.out.println("setComponent called " + component);
            fComponent = component;
        public UIComponent getComponent() {
            System.out.println("getComponent called " + fComponent);
            return fComponent;
    }The output to the console is:
    TestBean Constructor called de.kvb.athena.web.beans.TestBean@1bc16f0
    getComponent called null
    TestBean Constructor called de.kvb.athena.web.beans.TestBean@18622f3
    setComponent called javax.faces.component.UINamingContainer@160877b
    TestBean Constructor called de.kvb.athena.web.beans.TestBean@5eb489
    and the page displays
    Hello from the include page
    Hello from the included page Component = null
    Can anyone explain this behavior ? What's the reason that the page displays
    Component = null
    and is it possible to display the parent naming container (subview) this way ?
    how ?
    Thanks

    By "page scope" I assume you mean "none"? If so JSF creates a new bean for each place it's referenced. The closest to the behavior you want, once per "page", is really request scope.
    (I'm not sure why the constructor is being called thrice, though. I should look into this.)
    I assume you want a bean-per-subview scenario. This should be doable, and one way that allows a dynamic number of subviews would be as follows:
    --create a "manager" bean in request scope
    --give it get/set methods that retrieves a Map of "TestBean" instances; the idea is that each subview use a different key "s1", "s2", etc
    back the manager method with Map implementation that checks if there's already a TestBean associated with the key returns it if yes, else null.
    If that seems messy, the component solution is hairy :-) See http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=568937&messageID=2812561

  • Repeater fails using {container.item} context within included JSP pages

    Greetings,
    I'm using Bea Workshop 8.1.2 and netui's based framework.
    I'm experiencing a problem relating to the use of jsp:insert tags as a way of templating the code as to make it more maintainable and cost effective.
    The problem arises when using repeaters and then binding a <netui> tag with a "container.item" context inside the included jsp page.
    Example:
    On a PageController we define on its scope a rather simple data structure:
    public String[] array={"Item1","Item2","Item3"}
    The associated index is as follows:
    index.jsp
    <netui:html>
    <netui-data:repeater dataSource="{pageFlow.array}">
    <netui-data:repeaterHeader></netui-data:repeaterHeader>
    <netui-data:repeaterItem>
    <netui:label value="{container.item}"/><br>
    </netui-data:repeaterItem>
    <netui-data:repeaterFooter></netui-data:repeaterFooter>
    </netui-data:repeater>
    </netui:html>
    This works as expected, it prints the data in the array list. Fine.
    Now, with the <jsp:insert> tag usage, we get two files index.jsp and body.jsp:
    index.html
    <netui:html>
    <netui-data:repeater dataSource="{pageFlow.array}">
    <netui-data:repeaterHeader></netui-data:repeaterHeader>
    <netui-data:repeaterItem>
    <jsp:include page="body.jsp" flush="true"/>
    </netui-data:repeaterItem>
    <netui-data:repeaterFooter></netui-data:repeaterFooter>
    </netui-data:repeater>
    </netui:html>
    body.jsp
    <netui:html>
    <netui:label value="{container.item}"/>
    <netui:label value="{pageFlow.array[0]}"/>
    </netui:html>
    With this example the {container.item} tag fails with this exception:
    "Caught exception when evaluating expression "{container.item}" with available binding contexts [actionForm, pageFlow, globalApp, request, session, appication, pageContext, bundle, container, url, pageInput]. Root cause: com.bea.wlw.netui.script.xscript.IllegalContextStateException: The Tag "com.bea.wlw.netui.tags.html.Label@cb5dce" does not have a valid parent of type DataAccessProvider. The expression "container["item"]" requires a parent of this type."
    BUT - and here is my problem with this - the label tag with {pageFlow.array[0]} PRINTS THE DESIRED ELEMENT.
    Also, on an extended example with a <form> tag around the main index html and the array structure inside a FormData class, {actionForm.array[0]} ALSO PRINTS THE DESIRED ELEMENT.
    Only {container.item} gloriously fails with an exception complaining about IllegalContextStateException.
    This is a total nonorthogonal behaviour, the features do not work as expected and indeed, with the importance of repeaters for netui's development, this preclude us from the minimum standard for structured web application design.
    Does anyone have any clue about this behaviour? If not a fix, at least an explanation...
    Thanks in advance.

    I am trying to insert multiple rows I when submited I am get ting only 1 row in the DatabaseForm.
