IFS and XML documents

I'm glad iFS is finally out. I scanned
through all the online documents I could
find, but couldn't see anything on what
I am interested in.
I'd like to use Oracle to store XML
documents and retrieve various views
of them. By "documents" I mean actual,
deep, published documents; I don't mean
database records.
Is it expected that the iFS will be used
for this sort of purpose? Can it be? If
so, will the Developer's Guide have info
or am I missing where such info is already
available?
Thanks,
Chris Hamlin

OK, I got the SDK just released and took
a quick scan. I see that we might need to
define our own document, with attributes,
and you can even define embedded attributes.
But, this seems to be an explosion of the
DTD structure, and I don't see if we can
really do this for deep-structured documents
that aren't basically db stuff.
For example, almost any element can contain
math, which can contain lots of
stuff, including fractions, which can contain
fractions again, etc. So the abstract
structure is not strictly a tree, but
contains cycles. This can be quite deep at
times.
Is it intended that iFS will be used for such
stuff, really? And has it ever been used for
such a purpose? All the examples are very
simple so I'm wondering whether it is worth
pursuing. Thanks for any info or pointers.

  • IFS and Excel Documents

    Good Morning,
    I am new to working with iFS. My questions revolves around placing excel documents into iFS. We want to place excel spreadsheets into iFS and then we want to read the data from the excel sheet into the database. Is this possible?

    could you explain exactly what you mean? do you mean parsing the contents of the excel spreadsheet (into CSV for example)?

  • IFS and Compound Documents?

    Is it possible in iFS to create a custom class which would contain multiple independent content documents. For example, create a book class which would contain chapters, where each chapter is a distinct word document that is uploaded into iFS for indexing. Then be able to do an intermedia text query for a book that contains some phrase in any of its chapters.
    If so, please provide tips about how to do this.
    Thanks.

  • Parse and output XML document while preserving attribute order

    QUESTION: How can I take in an element with attributes from an XML and output the same element and attributes while preserving the order of those attributes?
    The following code will parse and XML document and generate (practically) unchanged output. However, all attributes are ordered a-z
    Example: The following element
    <work_item_type work_item_db_site="0000000000000000" work_item_db_id="0" work_item_type_code="3" user_tag_ident="Step" name="Work Step" gmt_last_updated="2008-12-31T18:00:00.000000000" last_upd_db_site="0000000000000000" last_upd_db_id="0" rstat_type_code="1">
    </work_item_type>is output as:
    <work_item_type gmt_last_updated="2008-12-31T18:00:00.000000000" last_upd_db_id="0" last_upd_db_site="0000000000000000" name="Work Step" rstat_type_code="1" user_tag_ident="Step" work_item_db_id="0" work_item_db_site="0000000000000000" work_item_type_code="3">
    </work_item_type>As you may notice, there is no difference in these besides order of the attributes!
    I am convened that the problem is not in the stylesheet.xslt but if you are not then it is posted bellow.
    Please, someone help me out with this! I have a feeling the solution is simple
    The following take the XML from source.xml and outputs it to DEST_filename with attributes in a-z order
    Code:
    private void OutputFile(String DEST_filename, String style_filename){
         //StreamSource stylesheet = new StreamSource(style_filename);
         try{
              File dest_file = new File(DEST_filename);
              if(!dest_file.exists())
                  dest_file.createNewFile();
              TransformerFactory tranFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
              Transformer aTransformer = tranFactory.newTransformer();
              aTransformer.setOutputProperty(OutputKeys.ENCODING, "UTF-8");
              Source src = new DOMSource("source.xml");
              Result dest = new StreamResult(dest_file);
              aTransformer.transform(src, dest);
              System.out.println("Finished");
         catch(Exception e){
              System.err.print(e);
              System.exit(-1);
        }

    You can't. The reason is, the XML Recommendation explicitly says the order of attributes is not significant. Therefore conforming XML serializers won't treat it as if it were significant.
    If you have an environment where you think that the order of attributes is significant, your first step should be to reconsider. Possibly it isn't really significant and you are over-reaching in some way. Or possibly someone writing requirements is ignorant of this fact and the requirement can be discarded.
    Or possibly your output is being given to somebody else who has a defective parser which expects the attributes to be in a particular order. You could quote the XML Recommendation to those people but often XML bozos are resistant to change. If you're stuck writing for that parser then you'll have to apply some non-XML processing to your output to fix it up on their behalf.

  • Storing and parsing  an XML document

    Hi everybody,
    does anybody know how to store (clob) and to parse (query) and XML document? can you give me an example and/or some useful information?
    Thanx in advance,
    Ettore

    Hi, first try determine how much time does the parsing xml get,
    you could just remove insert lines, and count,
    if the time is similar it means that parsing xml has great infulance on total time,
    otherwise there is insert affection you could try ue forall loop syntax insted of for ( just FORALL currentNode IN 0 .. xmldom.getLength(nodeList) - 1 LOOP) or
    direct load using 'insert into <table_name> .. as select',
    'forall' minimize conext switches it could help
    to achive direct load you need first rewrite your procedure to function in order to return table, (table of object ), so your insert could look like
    insert into SWTable
    as select * from table
    (cast
    USP_FILEINFOINSTANCEINSERT(
    URLFile =>x
    lComputerID =>y) as SWTable_t)
    where SWTable_t - table of SWTable_o
    SWTable_o - object with all SWTable's atributes

  • Difference between SDO and a xml document

    Hello,
    I want to know what is the exact difference between a SDO and XML document.According to my understanding, SDO defines a Java binding framework of its own. XML is a kind of data being bound to SDO.
    SDO can be represented as XML.
    But what is the difference between a normal XML document and a XML representing a SDO ?
    How can we say by looking at a XML doc that it is a representation of a SDO and not JUST ANY xml doc?
    Please clarify.
    Thanks
    Nutan

    Let's see.
    Facelets creates a facelets page
    JSP creates a JSP page
    {noformat}:){noformat}
    Facelets is the "official" view language for JSF 2.0
    http://www.realdevelopers.com/blog/development/facelets-vs-jsp should give you some more insight as well.

  • How to create an XML document from a String.

    Can anyone help,
         In the Microsoft XML Document DOM there is a load function load(string) which will create an XML document, but now we are switching to Java and I do not know how to create and XML document from a string, this string xml document is passed to my program from a webservice and I need to read several xml elements form it in a web server.
    This string is a well formatted XML document:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <Countries NumberOfRecords="1" LanguageID="en-us">
         <Country>
              <CountryCode>AU</CountryCode>
              <CountryName>AUSTRALIA</CountryName>
         </Country>
    </Countries>

    Thanks PC!
    I made it work using:
    DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    factory.setIgnoringComments(true); // We want to ignore comments
    // Now use the factory to create a DOM parser
    DocumentBuilder parser = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    //TransformThisStringBuffer is a string buffer wich contain the 'XML document (String)'
    InputStream in = new ByteArrayInputStream(TransformThisStringBuffer.toString().getBytes());
    // Parse the InputStream and build the document
    Document document = parser.parse(in);
    But which one is faster InputSource or InputStream, were would you put the "new InputSource(new StringReader(yourString))" in the above code?

    Using JDK 1.1.8 you must use the JDBC 1.x driver in classes111.zip and the companion version of the XML SQL Utility xsu111.jar.
    You'll need to download these from OTN from http://otn.oracle.com/tech/xml and then replace them in your classpath for the classes12.zip and xsu12.jar that you're using.

    Hi everybody,
    does anyone here has any experiences with J9 (CDC Personal Profile) and XML document?

    Try kXML. It should work on any Java platform.

  • Editing XML documents from iFS WebUI

    When I click on an XML document within the iFS WebUI, it opens the file and shows it to me within Internet Explorer.
    I want the document to be opened on my workstation with Arbortext Epic Editor, but IE keeps trying to display it.
    Has anyone had a problem like this? I don't want Internet Explorer to open the document, but what the XML file is associated with within Windows...
    I have tried changing the MIME type for XML documents within JWS from default to application/octet-stream in an attempt to force IE to pass it to the operating system... but it didn't work.. unless I change the wrong mime.properties file...
    Anyone have a solution?

    Did you change your settings in IE for that mimetype ?

  • How to create and instance of Java Object from an XML Document.

    Hi,
    How can we use a XML Document to create an instance of Java Object and do vice versa ie from the Java Object creating the XML Document.
    XML Document is available in the form of a String Object.
    Are there helper class available to achieve this.
    I need to do this in a Servlet.
    Regards
    Pramod.

    JAXB is part of JavaSE while Xmlbeans claims full schema support and full infoset fidelity.
    If the standard APIs do all that you need well then use them.

  • Convert flat file to XML document and store into Oracle database

    First:
    I have a flatfile and created external table to read that file in Oracle
    Now I want to create an XML document for each row and insert into Oracle database, I think that XMLtype.
    Could you please provide me some information/steps.
    Second:
    Is there performance issues, because everyday I need to check that XML document stored in the database against the in coming file.
    Thank You.

    Oracle 11g R2 Sun Solaris
    Flat file is | (pipe delimited), so I did create an EXTERNAL Table
    row1     a|1|2|3|4
    row2     b|2|3|4|5
    row3     c|6|7|8|9
    I want to store each record as XML document. So it will be easy to compare with next day's load and make insert or update.
    The reason is:
         First day the file comes with 5 columns
         after some days, the file may carry on some additional columns more than 5
         In this case I do not want to alter table to capture those values, if I use XML than I can capture any number of columns, CORRECT!. Please make me correct If I am wrong.
         This is the only reason to try to use the XMLType (XML Document)
         On Everyday load we will be matching these XML documents and update it if there is any column's value changes
    daily average load will be 10 millions and initial setup will be 60-80 millions
         Do I have anyother option to capture the new values without altering the table.
    Please advise!.

  • How to filter xml using dtd and create a new xml document

    Good morning my name is Antonio and I'm an italian programmer.
    I need an help about the follow question.
    I want to filter the contents of a XML document using a DTD to allow
    only the valid elements and attributes as specified in the DTD to be
    passed through to the output, any data that does not conform to the DTD
    should be filtered out.
    To resolve this problem there's XML Translator Generator (XTransGen): http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/xmltranslatorgenerator
    but at moment it's not avaiable.
    Can you help me?
    Many thanks.
    ciao

  • Extracting and Loading XML document

    We need to extract and load an XML document into the database
    For e.g.
    <ROW> <EMP_ID>1</EMP_ID> <EMP_NAME>SSK</EMP_NAME>
    <RESUME> Resume of sssk
    </RESUME>
    </ROW>
    We need to load emp_id, emp_name to emp_id, emp_name field in the database and <RESUME> field to a CLOB.
    The table is as follows
    EMP_ID NUMBER
    EMP_NAME VARCHAR2(100)
    RESUME CLOB
    How exactly is this done using the XSU utility? Does it support loading of <RESUME> data in this case to a CLOB.
    Where could I find examples of doing this.
    null

    The "first child" of most of your elements is a white-space node containing a newline character. Your code incorrectly assumes it is an element node.
