ILife missing from new mac!

Hello there
I've just got my brand new Mac - literally just 10 mins ago, and thats me all set up. I bought it online from a UK retailer, and although it was refurbished, it was advertised that it would include iLife
"Includes iTunes, Time Machine, Quick Look, Spaces, Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD Player, Photo Booth, Front Row, Xcode Developer Tools and more
Includes iLife (iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand and iWeb)"
However, the machine doesn't include this whatsoever, and was wondering what I do?
Thanks

Return it to the retailer and make them show you where the files are. If they cannot, get your money back and then buy directly from Apple.
There are a number of posts around here about so-called "new" Macs that turned out to be 1-2 years old. The thought is that some resellers--typically not Apple Authorized ones--get new but out-of-date machines (returned overstock, for example) and wipe the hard drive to reinstall a later OS. This takes out the pre-installed programs. You should consider reporting the firm to Apple if you find they are doing this switch-a-roo selling.
You can enter your serial number here:
Check Your Service & Support Coverage
and that might help determine if Apple still sees the computer in warranty. Some people with similar third-party vendor issus like you describe have entered their serai lnumber to find they have no warranty coverage.
Apple products are in high demand; that brings out those things that live under rocks and eat slime for a living.

  • Missing from new mac mini

The hard drive on my old mac mini went out so I got a new one this week. I've noticed two things about my new one that concern me. I can't display the date in the menu bar. I can display the day and time but not the date. Also my new mac mini didn't come with any software to do word processing, spreadsheets, etc. I had a lot of old files using Appleworks 6 but it is not supported on Leopard. I was told by an Apple rep last night that you can't display the date anymore and that you have to buy new software to do word processing, etc. Is this correct?

The final version of Appleworks 6 does in fact work on the Intel Mini under Leopard -- but Apple doesn't support it, nor ship it with the new Minis.
A free office suite that is MS Office compatible is NeoOffice:
    http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/maindownload.php
    a similar alternative is OpenOffice:

There is no office suite that is directly compatible with Appleworks files, but if you install AppleWorks 6 on your Mini, you could export files in formats that other office programs can read.

  • Remove iLife Apps from New Mac Hardware with OSX 10.8

I have a new iMac that came preinstalled with OSX 10.8 and the Macintosh iLife apps (iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand).  I do not want the iLife apps as I do not use them but there no longer seems to be a way to clean install the OS without these applications.  I tried trashing the apps but the App Store keeps trying to update them, so clearly something remains.
How do I get rid of these applications completely and have the App Store recognize that they are gone?

The reason macjack and tzikowski recommend doing the migration when the computer is booted for the first time is due to how Migration Assistant works. MA doesn't copy Applications & files, it copies Applications & accounts. If you've already logged into your computer, when you use Migration Assistant it will copy your account from your old computer to the new one. Most people have a preferred account name and have already set up their new computer with it so when MA is run and the old account is copied, it has to be renamed. This can be disturbing or disappointing and yes, you can simply delete the first account you made and change the name of the migrated one but the short name isn't changed, just the long name.
But when you boot the computer for the first time you can migrate before any account is created so the old account is copied to the new computer and your account name remains the same. This is the only difference between Migration Assistant and what's called Setup Assistant in the first boot utility.

  • Do I need a new Apple ID if I want iMovie/iLife on my new Mac for free?

Just last month, I bought my new Macbook with Retina. This is my first Mac - previously, I used PC. When I still had my PC, I had an Apple ID for when I used iTunes on there.
I keep reading that new Macs come with iLife, and for a school project, I need a video editing software - in this case, iMovie. I synced my Apple ID with this Mac, and when I go to the appstore, it wants to charge $15 for it, even though it supposedly comes with my Mac purchase. When I looked up how to get it, every other place says that my appstore should offer it, but I don't see it.
Am I doing something wrong, or does the whole "free iLife with a new Mac purchase" thing not apply anymore?

So I managed to talk to someone on live chat support, and a detail I forgot about was that this computer was bought by someone else before me, but returned almost immediately, and apparently the reason why I don't have iLife is because this computer was previously synced with that person's apple ID before they returned the computer.
According to that chat, I am no longer able to get iLife. I'm supposing this is the case, since I looked again through my apps and my appstore and I still see nothing for iLife or iWorks.

  • Why is the 'mac pro' missing from the mac store?

why is the 'mac pro' missing from the mac store?
I always enjoyed speccing up machines that i will one day upgrade to.

ooh! i am my third mac pro and i love them, in my opinion it is still the best looking case (inside and out) on the market . Fingers crossed they can come up with something better.

  • TS4196 Messages app is missing from my Mac.  What happened?

Pretty sure I used it earlier this week.
If I recall, I had a beta version.  I THOUGHT I paid a modest fee, like $1 for it later.  But now, it is missing from my Macs.
I DO have it on my iPod Touch.
But there was not announcement about it being removed from my mac.  And I can't find anything on Google about it.

You are correct that Messages was in Beta. However, it was free. If you paid for it, it wasn't from Apple. As for it disappearing, Apple may have removed it in an update or you may have deleted it. Either way, I do believe that the final version of Messages will appear on both Lion and Mountain Lion.

  • Ilife missing on Lion (mac Book Pro) after installing on new drive

Certified apple service installed the Lion os on a SDD drive in Mac Book Pro 15''. I received the Mac and on the same day went with a SDD drive to iStore so that they would replace the drives and install the OS on it.
The problem is that I don't see iLife on it and as far as I know it should be included. The app store doesn't even show it to me...
    Any idea what to do??

Take a look at these instructions.
Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X Lion
If you reinstall Lion on a new Mac that shipped with OS X Lion installed, on an erased or replaced hard drive, you can download iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand from the Mac App Store.
    After installation, start from Lion.
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to compete installation of your applications.

  • Ipad won't sync all my photos from new mac

I have an original i-pad which used to sync all photos from my old mac - now I have a new mac and only some of the photos will sync with ipad - some photos are old and some are recent so it;s not an age thing.  Have updated ipad software and that hasn't solved the problem.

    What Dah•veed said.
I've had this problem for weeks now, and only just found that solution last night. There were over 400 photos that wouldn't sync. The only (unavoidable) downside is that your cache has to be rebuilt. If (like us) you have thousands of photos on your device, it can take quite sometime to rebuild. Close to an hour for each of our phones--we don't have exactly the same photos. I'm really not sure how long the second one took becuase we just let it sync and went to bed :-)
There's a kb article below, but it's as per the instructions above.

  • How to transfer data from NEW mac to OLD?

I want my Macbook Pro, gotten around early 2009 (runs on Leopard), to have the same things on it that my newer iMac has (runs on Snow Leopard). However, I'm running into a problem when I try to do that.
A few months ago I had no problem transferring ALL my data, accounts, files, applications, etc, from my new Mac to my old Macbook. I had erased the disk on my Macbook and then somehow managed to transfer all my data from the new Mac to the my old Macbook from a Time Machine backup.
Now, however, when I try to transfer it now through Migration Assistant or the startup disk, my Macbook tells me that I can't because my Macbook runs on an operating system older than my new Mac. It will not allow me to.
I don't remember how I did it last time. I remember getting the same error message, but finding a way to fix it... but I forgot completely! Last time, using the same Macs, and the same situation, I was able to transfer my data from the new Mac to the old one using Migration Assistant and Time Machine. Now it won't let me.
Is there any way to do this?
Please, advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

It's been awhile since I messed with this, but try opening Migration Assistant on the newer Mac.

  • Upgrade to OS 10.4 with SW coming from new Mac Mini (Intel duo core)

Is it possible to upgrade my G4 PowerBook to the latest OS 10.4 and iLife06 with the SW provided and installed on new Mac Mini's with the Intel duo core? That would make purchasing a new Mac Mini a sweeter deal.

    No.
The disks that come with new machines are specific to that machine.
You will need Tiger and iLife '06 if you want to upgrade your PowerBook.

  • How to transfer just iLife libraries to new Mac

    Hi,
I just bought a new MBPr to replace my 5+ year old iMac.
The old iMac has been filled up with a bunch of stuff I arguably don't need any more (apps I don't use etc). And as I have a new Mac a frersh  start would seem sensible. I can reinstall MAS apps easily enough, and apart from Office (which I have the orginal disc for) other apps are easy enough to redownload.
I initally tried doing a straight MA based shift of my entire iMac, but have run into issues with MA not playing ball (issues I've seen other unanswered post on).
When I last bought a new Mac I thought I'd simply be able to drag and drop the iTunes/Photo libraries across from one Mac to another. I remember getting into all sorts of metadata issues so want to avoid that this time around.
Really, all I'm interested in pulling across are my iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie libraries an their associated metadata. Docs should be drag and dropable (one would assume?).
If MA isn't working for me are there any ways in which I can have iPhoto et al working on my new MBPr without any hickups?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
As I type  iTunes seems to be going OK, but iPhoto has been doing something a tad worrying.
I tried dragging from one Finder window to another (across a Mac to Mac Ethernet connection) and got a message saying that not all items could be copied as I don't have permission (might have been authority or such like) to copy them!
I then noticed that the iPhoto library icon is different on my older Mac than my new MBPr. A-ha... now I remember my old iMac can't upgrade to the newest version of iPhoto without a costly upgrade. My iMac is running iPhoto 09 v 8.1.2 (424) and the library iconis a picture of a photo frame, whereas on my brand spanking new MBPr the iPhoto Library is a normal looking Folder.
Could this be the reason for the quirky warning message? If so is there a workaround that doesn't involve me paying over £20 to upgrade iPhoto that I'm not going to use once I have switched over to my new Mac?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Connect to Old Backup from new mac

I recently purchased a new mac book to replace an older one that I had backed up wtih Time Machine/Time Capsule. I need to file an old file that I backed up but my new Time Machine doesn't show any history. How to I get to my old backed up files?

Once you're sure you've got the new Mac set up right, you should probably erase your TM disk before starting to use it for backups of the new one.
The reason is, TM on your new Mac will not delete any of the backups from the old one when it needs space for new backups (and the first backup on the new one will be a full backup). Instead, it will delete your oldest backup of the New Mac.
In essence, the backups from your old Mac are "stranded." You can delete them via the TM interface, but that's one at a time and rather tedious. See item 12 of the Frequently Asked Questions post at the top of this forum.

  • Can't upgrade a legacy version of iLife '11 from the Mac App Store.

I have bought, a few years back, a legacy version of iLife '11 on DVD. I have heard that Apple is offering a free upgrade to their new iLife suite but when I accessed the Mac App Store, I can't upgrade to the new version. I currently have not made the move to Mavericks and I am still on Mountain Lion on a late 2009 iMac. Have I heard wrong and I am not allowed to a free upgrade or is there something I need to do to upgrade iLife?

You need to upgrade to OS X Mavericks first, as the most recent iLife versions are only compatible with OS X Mavericks.
After upgrading to OS X Mavericks, you will be prompted to update the iLife applications in the Mac App Store, and it will ask you for your Apple ID to register the applications to your Apple ID, so you can get them free of charge

  • Podcast Missing from New AppleTV...

Anyone else notice that that section is missing from the GUI of the new appleTV? are they really getting rid of Podcasts? I'd be sorry to see that go as i'm an avid user of Podcasts.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was concerned about this, I would say 50% of my usage of my current Apple TV is video podcasts. Interestingly, reviews never talk much about this but I find you have pretty good on demand content via podcasts.
