IllegalStateException: Cannot forward to same URI

I am getting the below error. Can some one explain
this error? Thank you.
500 Internal Server Error
com.livesoftware.jsp.JSPServlet:
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cannot forward to same URI '/telecom/ErrorJSP.jsp'
What does this mean and what should I look for.

It seems that your error page has an error, and tries to forward to itself.
This would result in an endless loop.
Check the page /telecom/ErrorJSP.jsp to see why it would forward to itself.

    waiting for your immediate response

    Hi Junaid,
    Your code can be work correctly on different servers or with other records but it can not be handled with buffer or autoflush,
    I had same problem a few weeks ago. And lastly I had to control before printing any output. My application was working on WebSphere but not on Tomcat, so it is general problem.
    The only way if you have to put some output before sending redirect:
    When you want to redirect the page, write window.location = ... (javascript code).
    When page is loaded automatically will be redirected to the page you want. But of course it is a bit slow.
    Good Luck,
    isturk.

  • Java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cannot forward ...

    as OutputStream or Writer has already been obtained.
    Getting this error. Using
    Jdk1.3.1_01 with Tomcat. This did NOT happen in JavaWebServer2.0 (30 day demo version).
    This is the part of the code that is giving me the problems.
    RequestDispatcher showDispatcher = getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher(showService);
    showDispatcher.forward(req,res);
    What I am doing is using this as a central servlet that all jsp pages must go through to get to a servlet, which in turn returns to a jsp page.
    Now I will note this, as i've seen before in other similar requests. I am NOT using any Printwriters in this servlet.
    The "showService" is a hidden field on the request jsp page that tells this servlet where to go afterwards.
    As I said before, this worked with NO problems at all. Considering I wanted to get away from JWS2, and go to Tomcat, this is the problem it gave me. I have been able to get all JSP pages to work. Servlets all go through this, so i didn't want to change all my servlets and jsp pages to go direct to the servlets. (Security thing).
    Thanks to anyone who can help me out.
    ...Ordio

    taskDispatcher.include(req, res);
    showDispatcher.forward(req,res);you can use include and forward at the
    same time in the old Servlet/JSP version, as the
    include function will automatically flush the
    output(say the JSP) to the client, that's why
    something's written out but you don't know! while,
    apparently, forword function requires nothing shoud be
    sent to client.Makes sense to me. :)
    since the program works fine in Jave web server, i bet
    you must be using Tomcat 3.X or even older which use
    old version of Servlet/JSP specs and implementations.Ahh... that may explain why. I am using tomcat 3.2.3.
    So, either update the Tomcat to 4.0(which is yet a
    beta version), or find any other server else. (I
    assume you don't want to re-write the whole program).Yeah, you are right... I do not want to re-write everything to get it to work. I will update to Tomcat 4 (I know it is in beta, and supposedly it was supposed to be released today.)
    Yeah, i just grabbed tomcat 4, and here's the info from the Release Plan 4.0
    Sunday, September 9, 2001 Tomcat 4.0 Release Candidate 1
    Thursday, September 13, 2001 Tomcat 4.0 Release Candidate 2
    Monday, September 17, 2001 Tomcat 4.0 Final Release
    Thanks for helping me out, and letting me know that the problem is likely tomcat 3.X... I will try this out on 4, and reply later.

  • Tiles- Cannot forward after response has been committed Error

    I am trying to use following approach for my tiles implementation but i am getting error like
    java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cannot forward after response has been committed.
    I have gone thorugh the other posts regarding the same error but not helping me.
    Any clues greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sachin
    "I haven't found a way to directly dispatch to a tiles definition, but you can eliminate the need for multiple "wrapper" JSPs by creating a single "tilesDispatch" JSP that is able to dispatch to different tiles definitions, and establishing a convention for mapping URLs to that JSP, and identifying the tiles definition you want to load.
    For example, you could use the following convention to identify a tiles definition:
    /tiles/defName
    where "defName" is the name of the tiles definition (from tiles.xml) that you want to use. The code for the tilesDispatch.jsp would be as follows:
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=UTF-8" language="java" %>
    <%@ taglib prefix="t" uri="http://jakarta.apache.org/struts/tags-tiles" %>
    <%
    String tilePath = request.getRequestURI();
    int slashIndex = tilePath.lastIndexOf('/');
    if (slashIndex >= 0) {
    tilePath = tilePath.substring(slashIndex+1);
    %>
    <t:insert definition="<%=tilePath%>" flush="false"/>
    The scriptlet code takes the request URL (e.g. /tiles/defName), strips off everything up to and including the final slash (e.g. defName), then the tiles "t:insert" tag is used to look up and insert the corresponding tiles definition.
    In order to map all URLs of the form /tiles/* to the tilesDispatch.jsp, you would need to add the following to your web.xml:
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>tilesDispatch</servlet-name>
    <jsp-file>tilesDispatch.jsp</jsp-file>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>tilesDispatch</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/tiles/*</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    Note: You may need to insert a slash before tilesDispatch.jsp in the <jsp-file> element. I am using pre-compiled JSPs, so my configuration is a little different. So if <jsp-file>tilesDispatch.jsp</jsp-file> doesn't work, try <jsp-file>/tilesDispatch.jsp</jsp-file>.
    Once you have this set up, you can refer to tiles definitions using the /tiles/defName convention in your faces-config.xml. For example, if you have two tiles definitions in your tiles.xml file: tile1 and tile2, you could have something like the following in faces-config.xml:
    <navigation-rule>
    <from-view-id>/tiles/tile1</from-view-id>
    <navigation-case>
    <from-outcome>success</from-outcome>
    <to-view-id>/tiles/tile2</to-view-id>
    </navigation-case>
    </navigation-rule>
    Note that when I have used this convention, I also have used the prefix mapping for JSF. That is, when linking to a JSF page, based on a tiles definition, from a non-JSF page, the URL would be as follows:
    /faces/tiles/defName
    In this case, the Faces servlet is initially invoked, which sets up the JSF environment. Then the /faces prefix is stripped off, and the remaining URL (/tiles/defName) is routed to the tilesDispatch.jsp, which strips off the /tiles/ prefix, and inserts the "defName" definition.
    We are currently using this approach in a number of web apps, and it is working very reliably. I hope this helps.

    Hi gimbal2,
    I hope to better explain.

    An in my web.xml I have:
    <filter>
         <filter-name>SecurityFilter</filter-name>
         <filter-class>my.filter.SecurityFilter</filter-class>

  • How to forward the same ports for multiple IPs?

    Hi all, I just bought a Linksys WRT54GS router and I would like to forward the same set of ports for two different computers on my network (192.168.1.101 and 192.168.1.3) however when I try to, I get a "Port Overlap" error. Is there another way I can do this? I am trying to set up Age of Empires II. Thanks for any help!

    No.  You cannot forward the same port to two different computers  (or IP addresses).
    Here's the reason why:
    You and your friend are both playing the game online.  You score 1000 points.  Your friend scores 10 points.  The signal to increase your score 1000 points arrives on port 3078.  Which computer is the router supposed to send this signal to?  Both computers?   No way!
    Most online games have a way to assign different ports to different computers.  For example, you might use ports 3075 thru 3078, while your friend uses ports 3175 thru 3178.  If your game is setup this way, it should work.
    Also, you will want to forward ports to a fixed LAN IP address.  In your WRT54GS, note that any fixed LAN IP address must be outside the DHCP server range, and it cannot end in 0, 1, or 255.   So the 192.168.1.101  address is probably an illegal fixed LAN IP address.
    Here are all the Linksys rules for using fixed LAN IP addresses:
    With Linksys routers, a fixed (static) LAN IP addresses must be assigned in the device that is using the address. So you need to enter the fixed address in the computer or printer, not in the router.
    When using a Linksys router, any fixed LAN IP address must be outside the DHCP server range (typically 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.149), and it cannot end in 0, 1, or 255.
    Therefore any fixed LAN IP address would normally need to be in the range of
    192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.99 or
    192.168.1.150 thru 192.168.1.254
    assuming you are still using the default DHCP server range.
    Also, in the computer, when you set up a static LAN IP address, you would need to set the "Subnet mask" to 255.255.255.0 and the "Default Gateway" to 192.168.1.1 and "DNS server" to 192.168.1.1
    It is also important that no two devices on your network be set to the same static LAN IP address.
    Typically, when I setup gamers, I put thier fixed addresses all together at 192.168.1.21 , 192.168.1.22, etc.   But you can use any legal fixed addresses that you want.

  • Cannot forward one page PDF files from mail app

    My earlier topic had incorrect problem report so I've created a new topic.
    The problem is i cannot forward one page PDF file from mail apps. I use imap set up for my work email.
    Multi page PDFs, photos, docs, numbers, all forward OK for both windows and Mac formats.

    Update: I hade had a reply from the Good Reader app developer saying this is a known issue even for them. However, they don't know if Apple will fix this or not.
    Basically mail app treats all one page PDF as if it's an image and will forward it the same as it would an image. Any non-apple based mail programs will have issues viewing this file..

    The problem is that you are trying to do a forward somewhere when output has already been sent to the browser: this is not allowed. I cannot find it in your code, so it must be in one of the includes.

  • I receive an email with an attachment and I forward it the person who I send it to cannot forward it on

    Like the question says. I receive an email from someone with an attachment. I can forward it on to someone else but that person cannot send the same email with the same attachment on to other people.

    Have you tried to save the attachment and then re-attach it when you forward? It may be that the sender or his mail client did something that doesn't relay well, but by rebuilding the message you might improve matters.
    You don't say why or how your recipients "&hellip;cannot send the same email&hellip;". What happens? What errors or error messages do they see?
    </blockquote>
    I have tried this but it still doesn't work. So many people cannot open .eml files. If I send an E-Mail by forwarding they do not get it the attachment.

  • JMS SAF client cannot forward messages - Caused by: javax.crypto.BadPadding

    Hi,
    I seem to be struggling with a problem that I'm not sure if I can ever find a solution.
    I have a configured a local JMS client to forward my messages to a remote WLSB 9.2.
    The local client is running JDK 1_0_14 on a windows platform.
    The remote server is on IBM JRE on linux. Now I'm getting problems when the messages are forwarded by the local SAF client. The client does not seem to be able to decrypt the password I have in my SAFClient.xml. I have pretty much followed every line in the documentation of SAF client and has already revisited it a few times.
    It seems to be something to do with the ClientSAFEncrypt utility that I was advised to get the encrypted password which I have put in the XML File. Here is the exception. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    All I know is it is something to do with encoding of the password, but I cannot get a clue what else.

    Hi,
    I seem to be struggling with a problem that I'm not sure if I can ever find a solution.

  • Cannot forward emails with pictures- it says missing plug ins

    I cannot forward messages with pictures. It says "missing plug-ins" I tried saving the pictures but when I put them as attachments it says the same.

    Are you sure your download of the images are complete?  Are these IMAP e-mails (iCloud uses iMac), POP e-mails, or Exchange?    Are you using Mac OS X Mail, or some other application for mail?
