Illustrator crashes when applying effects.
Im getting really frustrated that such simple requests in illustrator are so problematic.
My first instinct is to update to the latest version, but Adobe say im up to date (this us 16.0.4, but I think there is 17 now?)
Any thoughts? Help?

It seems that AI goes into non-responding state and after that when you force quit it you are getting the crash which you have posted here. Can you provide the snapshot of the artwork along with the drop shadow parameters which you are applying ?

Captivate 7 Crashes When Applying Effect
Hi Everyone: I am using Captivate 7.0.0.118 on a Windows 8 machine. I am trying to apply the "ease in" effect to a smart object on a slide. Every time I go to apply the effect and click "Live Preview" Captivate stops responding and requires me to close the program. I have tried running as administrator and also have cleared preferences from the utils folder. I would really like to add some animation and visual effects to this project, but I can't waste the time having it crash. The project is being developed from a template provided by my customer. If I try to apply the "ease in" to a blank project, it works just fine.
Any way to troubleshoot the template from my customer or why the template would cause this issue. Any thoughts / advice would be appreciated. Thank you.HI there
Have you tried isolating the object and placing it in a new project, applying the ease in, then copying and pasting it into the desired project?
Maybe that will get you going.

Why does Illustrator crash when saving to a new location on my new MacPro 13" Retina Pro running Yosemite?
That won't do. What I mean is you have to navigate to the file and make it active in pastebin and then copy the highlighted line like this
and paste that into your reply. -

I am having a problem with illustrator crashing when using save as to save a file to another location than the one it was previously saved in. It will save to the same location just fine but on macbook pro with yosemite os it crashes immediately when i change the save location. Tried reinstall and also tried other users and still does it. Any solutions?

I've been experiencing this issue too. I run CC on OS 10.6.8 with Extensis Fusion 4. I discovered Fusion 4 is not compatible with CC and have since upgraded to Fusion 5. Illustrator was still crashing, but I found in the forums that the Verdana font had to be activated in the System folder. I tried to install it there, but couldn't figure out how to do that, so I just activated it in the Font Library. After that, Illustrator opened.

For WIN please create a DMP file using the Task Manager (Right Click on the Adobe Illustrator CC and select the option Create Dump File) when AI displays the crash dialog. Please send this to me using any free File sharing websites and do not use the mail to send me this file as the size is more than 600MB.

I have video placed in a sequence and when I go to the effect browser to click on a effect to drop on it the program thinks for a few seconds and then quits. If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the appropriate version of FCP Rescue at http://www.fcprescue.com and run it.

2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
3) Shut down for 10 min. Go for a quick walk around the block and get SOME exercise today. Come back, turn on the computer and see how things are.

Illustrator crashes when changing color on gradient tool.
In any file, even a brand new, empty artboard, when I double click on the color box on the gradient tool bar ON THE OBJECT (not on the Gradient tool box, I've included an image below) to change the color, Illustrator crashes every single time without fail.

Are all the faces of the Verdana and Tahoma fonts installed and enabled/activated through the OS (not font mangement) as TTF (not OTF)?
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Illustrator Freezes when applying Overprint
Dear friends:
I have a MacBook Pro (2,4 Ghz, 2 Gb DDR2 SDRAM) since last august and, until yesterday, I hadnt had any major problems. Last weekend I decided to upgrade to Leopard, formatted my computer, installed and updated every program and I was very happy this morning when I started to work on several files in the usual need of overprint to be set.
Unfortunately, much to my surprise, the use of this feature has caused an absolute freeze on Illustrator: I still hear my iTunes on the background but I cannot switch applications and, even if I wait fifteen minutes, Illustrator does not come back. I have upgraded to Illustrator 13.0.2 an hour ago: same problem. The worst part is that I have to restart the bad way my machine every time, because the system ignores my [cmd]+[opt]+[esc]. So I am very angry: just today I have mistreated my machine more than in the nine previous months. I have delete the prefs several times and always freezes when applying the overprint. I do not want to start with the ridiculous guessing (such as the customized shortcuts or the language of the OS, that I have set in Spanish). Does anyone have a clue? Is this a known issue?

I have suffered another crash. I have deleted my preferences again, restarted having only Illustrator running and, again, freeze on overprint. As it happened a couple of seconds before 9:00 pm I could noticed that the time was announced (I have set my Date & Time pref that way) but the clock froze on the menu bar a 20:59. Another restart.

Pixelated vectors when applying effects?
For some reason Illustrator has decided to horribly rasterize my vectors whenever I attempt to apply effects. I've never had a problem with this before, it was fine one minute, the next, I'm getting these incredibly pixellated awful lookng mostrosities the second I open the effects gallery.
I've tried adjusting the raster effects (did it always rasterize the vectors when effects are applied? It never looked this horrbile before...), adjusting the dpi, enabling/disabling pixel preview or overprint preview, I've tried upscaling the vectors, downscaling the vectors, restarting my computer, reinstalling Illustrator, adjusting the power settings on my computer, blah, blah, blah- everything. NOTHING works.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about:
That object is about 2 inches in diameter, so it's not very small. I just don't get it.
What the hell's wrong with Illustrator?!!!!!

What happens if you untick Align to Pixel Grid in the Transform panel?
Otherwise, you may try the following (you may have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps:
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer;
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup;
4) Move the folder with Illy closed;
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options;
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool if you have CS3/CS4/CS5, and reinstall.

Photoshop CC 2014 crashes when After Effects is open (ntdll.dll module failure)
Recently, I upgraded from CC to CC 2014. Once I was satisfied with 2014, I uninstalled CC. Since then, I've been having a major issue where if I try and use Photoshop CC 2014 and After Effects CC 2014 simultaneously, either Photoshop or both will crash.

Photoshop generally doesn't give me an error message, but when After Effects crashes, it's almost never the same error message twice, though frequently mentions Dynamic Link in the message.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Creative Cloud multiple times, including using the Cleaner tool. I'd really like to avoid having to wipe my hard drive and reinstall my OS, like support immediately told me to do.
Running Win7 64-bit Ultimate, 32GB RAM, Intel i5-2500k, NVIDIA GeForce 560 Ti. Any help would be greatly appreciated.I do not have After effects. Your CC 2014 seems to be up to date. Are all Windows Updates installed and did you install the Dec 23 2014 Nvidia driver?

Acrobat 9 crashing when applying security
Acrobat 9 has suddenly started crashing when I try to apply or remove security from a doc. This has only occurred in last few days. I tried to uninstall, to re-install, but cannot uninstall, it just stops. Tried a 'repair' again it crashes Any ideas?
If your trying to do so through Reader, you need to go into Acrobat to advanced menu and choose Extend Features in Adobe Reader.
I was able to go in Acrobat 9.3.0 and file out form
Form is Okay on my screen the logo appears to be scrunched in a Little the Line are jagged as well as the text incated they were not cut down propotionally. -
Why are my still images Blurry when applying effects?
I am creating a slideshow video using images with up to 18mp. The images look wonderful clear and sharp until I try and add video effects to the slide, like zooming in or panning.
I am a user of both CS5.5 at work and newly acquired CS6 for home. I like what I have been able to do, however this makes me very frustrated when everything looks good except for the images with effects. Should I be applying effects differently? or what?

Stick around for awhile... there is OFTEN a good deal of "healthy discussion" (ie-disagreement) that goes on here
That discussion brings out a LOT of different experiences (you say X doesn't work... but it works just fine for "me") that sometimes, maybe even often, leads to increased and/or new knowledge for everyone
Other times, you just need to realize that what works for "me" may, or may not, work for "you" exactly the same way based on your work flow
Read what everyone offers, try what you can... and make LOTS of notes so, over time, you will develop work practices that work best for you
Personal example...
Many people export out of PPro as MPEG2-DVD to then use Encore to author a DVD
My PERSONAL work flow is to export my AVCHD edits to Widescreen DV AVI to give to Encore... so I may use Encore's Automatic Transcoding setting to make a "best" fit of video length to size (single or dual layer) of DVD
This is because I just don't care to get into all the details of figuring out the PPro settings when exporting... I let Encore do all the math for me
That process works just fine for me... other people want to figure out their own math for the PPro export settings
I say what I do, and why, but I certainly do not TELL anyone else that they MUST do it my way -
CS5 Illustrator crashes when trying to save.. help!

I've recently upgraded my imac to snow leopard and cs5. I've been using Illustrator this morning to creates some graphs/charts and am finding more often than not it's crashing when I go to save it (saving as a standard cs5 ai file). It saves sucessfully say 25% or the time, crashes the rest of the time...
It's really frustrating, any ideas on what it could be? PS, INDD etc all seem fine, it's just Illustrator.
I've copied the error report I get after it crashes - it's really long - so let me know if I should post it...
Thanks!I agree with Scott - a little more information is required, most importantly to where you are trying to save. This could be anything from networking issues to disfunctioning external drives to drives simply not spinning up in time after energy saving to AI itself having a problem flattening the file for creating the PDF chunks on safe. How are we supposed to know? The crash report is probably useless, so there is no point in posting it.

CS5.5 crashes when an effect is dragged
I have been using Premiere CS5.5.1 without problems until recently.
When an effect, (eg cross dissolve or fade to black), is dragged directly onto the timeline, Premiere locks up and cannot be started until the system is re-booted.
If any of the efftects are dragged across the other windows, (eg project box), and then onto the timeline, everything is fine. How strange is that!
Has anyone had his happen before, and how do I fix it? Is there a "configuration" file I can delete to force Premiere to rebuild the project?
I work with two Philips 190B monitors, and my system is: Hewlett Packard Z600 workstation, 16 gig RAM, 64 bit, 8 processor cores, NVIDIA Quadro 4000 display, DirectX ver 10.I have found a temporary fix to this problem. If the Effects Box is postioned over onto the "main" (left hand) monitor, effects can be dragged straight down onto the timeline without crashing the system.
