Illustrator file not continusely rasterizing

I have a bitmap (2075 x 1556)  I Image Traced into a vecor image in Illustrator CC and then brought that into After Effects CC, I put it in a layer and turn on the little sun icon on the layer to continusely rasterize, but when I zoom in on the layer the lines go all pixelated.
I've used this path before with CS6 and it worked fine, anything obvious I may have missed as in Illustartor if I zoom in 1,000% lines are sharp as you would expect.

Ok made layers 3D and that works, but when I turn on the pre-comp's continuesly rasterize option the comp renders in a strange rough texture instead of the smooth block graphics it was created in.
Comp output correct (though fuzzy) with continuesly rasterize off on precomp
Comp output grainy with continuesly rasterize switched on, on the precomp

  • Illustrator file not printing correctly

How do I set my Illustrator file to print clearly?
I am designing a simple label (3.75 x 1.25 inches, black and white) that is mostly text based. I tried printing directly from Illustrator and also as a converted PDF (high quality) and the results are the same - slightly blurry and fuzzy text.
The printing problem seems to only happen when I try to print Illustrator files and PDFs converted from Illustrator. (Printing with a laser printer.)
    Thank you.

With some adjusting the artwork actually prints ok, not great, but not as bad as the text, which I created outlines but still fuzzy.
After doing more research, I don't think my laser printer (Brother 2270DW) is postscript and I can't find a driver for that specific model and for a mac.
I've tried printing eps, opening pdf via preview (which some suggested), print as image, uncheck bitmap, use PCL setting on the printer... nothing seems to work. I guess new printer? Or is there another roundabout way?
    Thanks!

  • Illustrator file not filling InDesign frame

I have a Table of Contents graphic created for a news letter in Illustrator. The graphic is 1.2624" wide. In InDesign, I set up a frame the same width and no matter what fitting opitons I try, the graphic will not fill the frame.
If I chose fit frame to content, there is a .04165" gap around my graphic. Is there a way to have the graphic drawn to size in Illustrator and then completely fill a frame the same size in Indesign?
    Thanks,
    Phil

I used to create a no-fill, no-stroke box as a bounding box to help me with placement when I got the Illustrator file into Quark (I hadn't learned ID yet when I had that job). It was a music publisher, and if I wanted a two-measure musical example centered on the Quark page, I exported from the music notation program and opened in Illustrator, made the Illustrator bounding box the width of the Quark live area, and centered the musical example, within the bounding box in Illustrator. After I placed the Illustrator file in Quark, I fit the picture box to the image and snapped the box to the margin guides. I could have used Quark to center the example with the text boxes on either side, but seeing the picture box snapped to the margin guides gave a quicker visual that things were centered correctly.
That's one way that the bounding box would be a different size than the art itself, but you could argue that the bounding box was part of the art, even though it wasn't a visible part.

  • Illustrator files not getting cut off in bounding box of InDesign

    Hello,
I have a page in illustrator full of vector images. I bring it into InDesign and crop them by putting each piece in it's own window. Then, I make a pdf. When I open the pdf in Illustrator it looks fine but when I hit the preview/artwork option, I can see that all the images from that original Illustrator doc with it. Is there any way to have just the vectors I have revealed through each InDesign window come in? The InDesign Files contains multiple pages and each window contain only ones part of that illustrator file...but all the other pieces in the illustrator file stay outside that cropped area of the window when brought into Illustrator again...anyone know how to avoid this?
    thanks
    babs

I think it should work the way she is doing it I would say this is a bug of either ID or Illustrator but you have a work around, however if she changes her mind or is asked to recrop she now has one lousy time.
The way she was doing it is the logical way and what the feature in ID was about.
Perhaps before hitting the preview artwork she can flatten the art or maybe by placing the the pdf in a blank Ai document instead of opening it would do the trick.
I see what she is saying, the solution is is simple when you get the pdf into AI select all the art and open the pathfinder and hit the second icon on the bottom row which is trim that will clear the art work outside of the bounding box now when you hit outline preview or select all the art you will see only what you have showing in ID.
But I would place this in a already existing or in a new document rather than opening it because if you accidentally save it without renaming it I think you might lose the ability to use that pdf to edit the clipping mask which is what you are creating in ID and it is translated that way in ID as well.
Unless of course you really want to lose the rest of the artwork for sure.

  • Adobe bridge crashes when saving illustrator files

    Hi there,
We are developing custom connector using Adobe Drive SDK for our DAM system, the integration with CS was working fine, we recently updated Adobe Drive to 4.2, and we are encountering bridge crashes when saving illustrator file. It didn't happen with older version(4.0.2) of Adobe Drive, not sure why. I pin point the part that causing the issue: in our custom connector, we have READ_XMP_METADATA capability which we need to display the thumbnails and previews, and in the ftp sample connector, this capablity is not included originally, so the issue does not happen, but if I add this capabilty, the crash issue happens as well. If we exclude this capablity from our connector, this crash issue doesn't happen.
We noticed this only happens when saving illustrator file, not photoshop or indesign, and it seems that only in illustrator, when save, and the bridge has the current file folder showing, we are seeing there are twice folder refreshes, and usually it will crash after the second time. In photoshop and indesign, we don't see folder refreshes. If switch to other folder, the crash won't happen. We tested on both windows and Mac, on Mac, this seems happen less often. Another thing we noticed is in debug mode, or we have many debug logging turned on, the crash happens less often, if it is deployed with no debug logging, the crash happens almost everytime. So we are guessing it might be some synchronization problem.
Could you please advice what's the cause of this issue?
    Thanks,
    Katherine

    Has it ever worked?
What kind of files are they and where do you save them?
Is a printer connected, set up and turned ON?
Have you already tried resetting the preferences?
Generally it's not a good idea to just save old files, because then some artwork may be automatically flattened. Illustrator will save the file to the old version file-format and if you used new features in-between, those cannot stay live in the old version file format.

  • Icon (ie: Illustrator files) content no longer viewable in Finder.

Icon content no longer viewable in Finder. - Anyone have this issue with CS4 and Leopard?
For example: Illustrator file not viewable in finder in Leopard. Interestingly, I seem to remember that when scrolling through Illustrator files in the finder with Tiger, Panther, etc, if you have the preview window active, at least with .AI files, you'd get a preview of the graphics and not the default AI (or EPS) icon. Now I don't get any preview. Any suggestions?
I'm not sure if this is an Adobe or Apple issue, but I'm really finding too many quirks and conflicts between CS4 and Leopard that weren't issues in older versions of either companies previous software (say, CS3 or CS2 and Tiger).

...though it’s shameful that the old adage “if it ain’t broke (using the finder to preview file contents) wasn’t followed by Adobe and/or Apple. Thanks for this!
    No kidding...
FOR THOSE WHO CAN’T FIND THE QUICK LOOK FOLDER **
It’s in your main computer system LIBRARY. You can’t search for it successfully, but I found it there.
You can also add a folder to your User Library called Quick Look (I named mine Quicklook and it worked as advertised.) I added it there just in case something went awry. You can have the same folders that is in the System Library in your User Library. I do this so I wouldn't mess with the System. If it works without a problem, and want it system-wide, I move the items from the User Library to the System Library.

  • Why does flash add so many points to an imported illustrator file?

this has been a long time question, why, when you bring illustrator artwork into flash does it add so many unecessary control points to the object? something as simple as a circle with 4 happy control points in illustrator suddenly becomes a 20 control point circle when brought into flash. it has been this way forever and i know that there is no setting to change this, i just wondered why this happens cause it has always been frustrating to me. and do you think they will ever be able to make it not do this?

  • File Not Found in illustrator

    Hello everyone...
I am running on a windows 7 computer with ID CS6. When I try to click an .AI or (illustrator).EPS link in ID- illustrator says "File not found". So the only way I can open it in Illustrator is to go to the actual folder and drag it in there or "File>Open" from the original folder.
This is time consuming when I have hundreds of files to quickly edit...
On a side note: when I looked into this a while ago but didn't have time to follow through, I had to copy or replace some file in the programs file in the illustrator files. I am just hoping someone knows that detail.
    Thanks!

If the linked file is selected in ID you can use right-click and just select Edit Original from the contextual drop-down which shows up.

  • OLE embedded Adobe Illustrator Artwork files not rendering properly

I'm using BroadVision's Quicksilver.  I've attempted to embed AI Artwork
files as OLE objects (linked and not linked), but they don't render within
Quicksilver.  After working with their support team, they came to the
conclusion that it was an Adobe Illustrator issue because they were
able to reproduce the issue in Wordpad (not MS Word).
The problem can be reproduced by the following steps (tested in Vista,
    XP, & Server 2008):
    :- Open Wordpad
:- Click Insert -> Object -> Create From File -> Browse -> Find and select a file -> Open
Other variations on this theme encounter the same problem, including
    pasting it from the clipboard.
If you open a Wordpad document in MS Word and embed the OLE
object, it saves a preview of the image which is visible from Wordpad
if you open it later on (as long as you don't link to the original; if you do,
and attempt to update the link, the preview image will go away).  However,
subsequent alterations of the OLE object don't show up in Wordpad -- rather,
the image that was rendered in Word continues to be displayed (unless, of
course, you open it in MS Word again and re-save after the link is updated).
It appears the support team at another company encountered a user
experiencing the same or similar issues with their product, but on
Illustrator CS2 as opposed to CS4:
    http://www.graphpad.com/faq/viewfaq.cfm?faq=1309
Unfortunately, the "export to another format" workaround won't suffice.
We're working with thousands of Illustrator artwork files that need to be
version controlled, and other technical documents will link to the same
Illustrator file.  When an AI file is updated, all technical documents
need to use the altered version; linking to an exported version of the
file just creates one more link in the chain that can create problems
    or confusion.
Even if the version control stuff wasn't an issue, exporting to other
formats seems rather limited.  If we export to other formats (eg, pdf)
the images render poorly compared to what they look like in AI.
We've tried a number of things to work around this:
    * Make sure AI [is/is not] already running
    * Rasterize paths
    * Alter the size of the image in AI
    * Alter the size of the object in the target application
    * 'Save as' with a different version of AI selected (for all versions)
    * Saving as an EPS or PDF -- the former has the same rendering issue
as AI files; the latter renders but the drawing is blocky, probably because
the graphics are being rendered at a very low resolution and scaled up
      after the fact.
    * Looking for or changing preferences in Illustrator that might affect it
    * Altering color scheme and various other similar settings
    * CS5 trial version -- same problem as CS4
    * Save the [wordpad] document -> close -> re-open
    * Switching between 'display as icon' and displaying the image
    * Copy & paste from various sources (from AI -> Wordpad,
      MS Word -> Wordpad, etc)
The only way I can get it to render in Wordpad (or quicksilver for that matter)
is if I embed the AI file in a Word/RTF document, then embed that in
the target application (which is awfully convoluted).  Furthermore, if the
embedded Word/RTF file links to the original file, when you open the
document containing the embedded Word/RTF it doesn't attempt to
update from the linked AI file, just the linked Word/RTF file.
I'm sure there's other things we've tried to resolve this, but that's what comes
    to mind right now.
If anyone can help with this, or clue me in that it's a bug in AI, I'd sincerely
    appreciate it.
    -Brian

    Well, no offense
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
None taken.  I'm helping someone else solve a technical problem, I'm just not questioning their approach; I'm not a tech writer, so I'll pass your suggestions on.
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
(...) you are trying  to solve one hell of a crooked workflow on the wrong end and the one  fatal flaw being that you insist on using an office tool to create  layouts and expecting it to render print-ready documents.  That just  cannot work. Even the most stubborn tech writers I occasionally work  with, recognize the need for eventually firing this at InDesign/ InCopy/  Framemaker and associated server versions and fuse the imported RTF/  Word documents and illustrations based on template layouts, scripting  and rule-based formatting, which can all happen automnatically on a  server with the respective software.
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
I was mistaken when I described how things are version controlled.  They would prefer to embed the AI images in each document and have each document be version controlled (that is, if the image changes it should /not/ affect other documents).
However, I wasn't mistaken when I said there are thousands of already developed AI images.  The team working with these images has already procured a volume license for Framemaker and is hesitant to purchase other software unless there's no alternative, or the time savings would justify it.  I wish I could comment on the efficacy of your suggestion, but I'm not a tech writer; I'm unfamiliar with InDesign, InCopy, and FrameMaker.
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
So for what it's worth, you are  probably wasting your time and resources on something that by its nature  starts out with a limited process. I'm not even sure if AI fully  supports OLE. I seem to remember having read about it not supporting  several features and commands....
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
If we export to other formats (eg, pdf) the images render poorly compared to what they look like in AI.
What  do you mean? If they look "bad" in Acrobat or something, then you are  simply using the wrong export settings. which is perfectly fixable.
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
In Acrobat the SV graphics look beautiful at any scale, but if the PDF is OLE embedded in another application it looks terrible.
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
If  they look "bad" within your word documents, then we pretty much return  to what I said in the first paragraph - there's a good chance it's  simply Word rendering the artwork poorly due to its limited abilities of  dealing with graphics of any kind. I would even think that manually  changing the graphics properties would improve appearance then....
    -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
I'm not an expert on OLE; I made the [potentially bad] assumption that Acrobat would be responsible for rendering the graphic when a PDF is OLE embedded, so the application making use of the object would have limited control over the quality of the image it receives (if my assumption were correct anyway).
I know the host process can specify whether the image is rendered as an EMF or WMF image, otherwise I know very little about the OLE API and what limitations the host process can impose.
I'll keep tinkering to see if the PDF solution can be made to work.
In the meantime, would anyone like to make a determination as to whether this is a real bug in AI or not?
    -Brian

  • I can't open an .ai file in Illustrator without a dialog box appearing "Open PDF."  I have no idea what I can't open it as an Illustrator file (and not a PDF)

Once I open a page as a PDF, all my layer info is lost.  I've tried opening it on two machines and the dialog box continues to appear.  Again, it's not a PDF extension.
    Thanks for the help!

Since you're sure you saved it back to CS5, the issue might have been caused by saving directly to the server. Illustrator does not particularly like that.
90% of corrupt files are caused by saving directly to the server.
You might try and first copy the file to your harddisk and then open it from there. Opening files directly from the server is an issue as well.

  • Illustrator files cannot be opened: Could not read the file because an error has occurred.

I cannot open some files from  Illustrator which contain PNG files placed. When I try to open the file, I get a message saying: "this png contains addtional data for Adobe fireworks, which will be discarded upon save." When I press "ok" I get the same screen again. When I press "cancel" I get: "coulld not read the file because an error has occured". I am currently working on a Mac Mavericks. Using Illustrator cc and Fireworks CS6.

    Eliana,
If you have some file corruption, one thing often tried first is to create a new document and File>Place the (PDF contents, if any of the) corrupted one to see how much may be rescued that way.
Here are some websites where you can see whether it can rescue the actual file, and if it can, you may pay for a subscription to have it done,

  • "File Not Found" When opening a file in illustrator CS3

I having issues where when I click on a file it launches illustrator but then I get prompted with file not found. I then open illustrator and browse to the file and am to open it....any ideas? This one has me stumped.

I think I found the problem. I am using Illustrator CS5 (15.0.02) running on MacOS (10.7.5).
In my script, Folder.selectDialog function was returning "file:///Users/alex/Apps/temp", when I selected the temp folder from the dialog box. I want the function to return "/Users/alex/Apps/temp". If I hardcode the path (as shown below), the javascript runs fine.

  • Recovered illustrator file from a hard drive will not open

    Hi,
I just recovered  some illustrator CS2/CS3 files that were accidently deleted from a hard  drive using Recuva version 1.39.509.  The files were detected as being  in excellent shape and they are recognized as illustrator files in  windows.  But I can not open them!
Please help!  These are months of work that could be lost!
Dear Jacob - I dont know why the previous discussion disappeared.  I have tried all your suggestions, including following the instructions for recovering illustrator files... None of them worked!  I am at a loss!  Again, every single one of the recoverd illustrator files can not be read, are supposedly 100% healthy from the softwared used to recover them, but they do not open!  Other files such as word adn images were recovered successfully - I dont understand what is missing here!

    TG,
As you can see on the pages mentioned in post #3, you can open the AI files as text files, and then you can see and compare the lines of code building each file.
The first part of each file is the wrapping defining the structure, folllowed by the part defining the artwork. Some of the artwork part may be corrupted, but more likely the structure part at the beginning is (it may be as little part snipped off at the very start).
So you can copy (at least some of) the part of code defining the artwork from the corrupted file and insert into the sound file after the initial part.
You may compare the two files and try to work out which part to move and where, using the file parts shown on those Adobe pages as guides.
I hope this was not too woolly.

  • Illustrator File Will Not Open -  Error message "Object label badly formatted"

I have been working on a large image file for one of my classes; it has many layers and custom swatches, no text. I work on Creative Cloud at home, CS6 at school, and I think I had my .ai file saved under legacy file format CS4 trying to be safe (because I was not sure of my school's version and I have had a lot of problems accessing my files at school because of the version differences). I have been working on it back and forth between computers for quite a while, and today--while I had the image on my computer recently--it says "Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties: Object label badly formatted" if I try to open it.
I have tried: updating Adobe Illustrator; creating a new AI document and "placing" the file into it; opening the file in Acrobat (the file opened, which was a step...but it only showed a tiny portion of the artwork and left the rest blank. Under the tools, however, it still showed the image had 15 layers (under the layer menu)--and it had them marked them as "visible"--but there wasn't anything I could do to actually view them; I tried copy/pasting into illustrator from Acrobat; opening in Acrobat and "saving as" a PDF (it said "The document could not be saved. There was a problem reading the document (111)"; and I just did a system restore hoping that could exorcise the demons--but no such luck so far.
Do you have any ideas? I would greatly appreciate any words of wisdom and support you might have...and chocolate.
    Thanks for reading this.

We now understand the problem, and are testing a solution. Here's my current understanding of all the elements of this issue.
CAUSE: The problem occurs in an interaction between Illustrator CS4, Suitcase Fusion 2 v13.2, and having an Illustrator document with one or more text boxes, containing text, which is *completely* off the artboard—not even the bounding box is touching the artboard. *Additionally*, there must also be at least one text box, with text in it, which is *on* the artboard (even so much as having the bounding box partly on the artboard is sufficient, again). When these conditions are met, saving the document *may* (but does not always) cause the problem.
PROBLEM: Attempting to open an affected document in Illustrator CS4 fails, with an "object label badly formatted" error. The problem can occur with older illustrator documents opened in CS4, as well as native CS4 documents.
UNAFFECTED: Despite any speculation in this thread, this problem does not affect Photoshop, nor has it occurred with any version of Extensis Suitcase older than Suitcase Fusion 2 v13.2, which shipped about eight days ago.
SOLUTION: The problem should be resolved by a 13.2.1 dot release. Although things could be delayed if we find something unexpected in testing, we currently expect to have the fix available this week, probably tomorrow (Thursday).
DOCUMENT RECOVERY: Extensis can fix any Illustrator CS4 document which exhibits this problem. For now, contact Extensis tech support if you need help with recovering any such Illustrator document. Be prepared to send tech support the affected Illustrator file(s). You can use the online contact form at http://www.extensis.com/en/support/contact_prod_support.jsp, or call tech support at 1-503-274-7030.
Special thanks to the users whose suffering and detailed reports helped us figure this out!
