Im Furious and Frustrated

I'm very mad at the fact that I had just recieved an IPod 5g 60gb for my birthday, and to find out that when using ITunes or IPod Updater, It will actually sometimes "downgrade" the software of my IPod. Im not sure which is "downgrading" it but when I replug it back in, It shows up as the lastest software. But the IPod itself will have a black and white screen, everything is plain and simple as if it were a younger software version.
The only way I know how to fix it is to "downgrade" my USB to 1.1 so I don't get the "Firmware update failure. Error writing disk" error. Then I restore it which takes a while. Then I "upgraded" my usb port back to 2.0 and when I try to restore it (The IPod is already restored but I wanna test) I still get the "Firmware update failure" and I have the factory settings and a empty IPod.
I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me exactly whats causing it to be "downgrading" and how can I avoid it as well as fixing it.

Spent the better part of one night having the same problem with my new 5 30G device. I connected the IPOD to another computer in 15 seconds and was able to update the software on it. I still can't get the device t work on my VAIO---even though it worked just fine with a mini. I've tried all of the suggestions on the discussion threads, 5R's, uninstalled andinstalled the software 3-4 times,ANYONE have any suggestions?

    I have spent many hours talking withApple helpline assistants (who, incidentally have been very good and have triedto help), and I have also spent a lot of time on this letter.
    I greatly regret updating to iOS 5.
    There are two major problems with the music app.
    1. Lyrics no longer displayed
    2. Layout, and appearance and consequently performance have seriouslyregressed.
    I have a repertoire of around 500 song backing tracks, organised into about 20playlists, half of which featured lyrics / chords that I have spent monthsrecently entering into iTunes so that they could be used on my iPad.
    These were working fine up until the update - now they are gone.
    Previously, the app featured large icons for playlist, artists, songs etc. atbottom of page: Now there are small, grey, indistinct barely legible buttons.
    Previously, when playlist icon was selected - all the playlists were listedclearly in order on the left hand side in black on white (as in iTunes).
    Now they are scattered across the whole page in large squares (displayingnothing if there is no album art).
    The identifying wording below eachsquare is now small, grey, indistinct & barely legible.
    Previously, when a playlist was selected - the songs were displayed in adescending list in black & white: now they appear as small, grey indistinct & barely legible.
    Previously, when a song was selected - it appeared filling the page, and withaudio controls clearly positioned at top of screen. One tap would bring uplyrics.
    Now audio controls appear at top once again small, grey, indistinct &barely legible.
    A small square representsalbum art which if tapped fills page. A further tap fails to bring up lyrics.

    Lyrics aren't supported in the Music app on iOS 5 on the iPad. These are user-to-user forums, they are not monitored by Apple (there are too many forums/threads/messages for that to happen).   • HT4759 I want to use icloud mail on both iPhone 4s AND my pc. icloud mail on PC is mega glitchy and frustrating because my PC is ancient, I run XP, & these DO NOT MEET req's for iCloud.  Is there a email platform that will run well on both XP and iPhone?

    I NEED to use icloud mail on both iPhone 4s AND my PC. I need to use both. 
    Trying to use icloud mail on PC is mega glitchy (STOP SCRIPT WARNINGS EVERY FEW MINUTES) and frustrating because:
      1.  my PC is ancient (but nicely refurbished/fast)
      2.  I run XP  (with both Firefox and Chrome- newest versions)
      3.  thusly, I DO NOT MEET SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS for iCloud.
    In my passed attempts I found that
    1. Yahoo doesn't work well on iPhone
    2. Gmail doesnt work well on iPhone.
    I must be missing something... an app or... maybe a donated/ NEW FREE MAC!  (That would be sweet!  Ha.)
    Is there an email platform that will run well on both XP and iPhone?
    or... Please say it isn't true: I would love a Mac tablet or desktop. We have no money for a mac. SOL?   Is this iCloud apple tech only for wealthy middle class and above who can afford to have the newest and best of everything? 

    @Naiks, having suffered through unsuccessful synching attempts for Calendar and Contacts myself, l would suggest you try the following:
    UNINSTALL iCloud control panel from your PC. Seems silly, but do it.
    Go into Outlook, and look at the very top menu. Click FILE, then ACCOUNT SETTINGS, then click the popup box.
    You will see a list of all your email accounts. Make sure that ONE of them has a checkmark against it. If not, select the account your want as your default, and click "set as default.
    Exit out of Outlook and reboot your machine.
    Now reinstall iCloud, check CALENDAR and CONTACTS, and do as instructed when prompted.
    Reboot for good luck and now launch OUTLOOK. All that remains is to locate your iCloud Contacts and Calendar files, and make them your default.
    IMPORTANT: Don't panic if you can't find your contacts -- they're there. Click CONTACTS and you'll see you have several available contact files. Locate the one label "iCloud" in grey type. Right-click on it, select PROPERTIES, then click the Outlook Address Book tab. Check the box that says something like "Make this my default Outlook Address Book." Keep clicking "apply" and "okay" until you've exited out of the dialog box maze.
    You may have to do something similar with your Calendar files. I dd not, but if you need to, do it.
    Everything should now sync pretty seamlessly.
    I didn't have the exact same problem as you, but my dilemma was close enough. Good luck!

    Here is my complaint:
    1.I have been saving for weeks trying to buy this flat screen TV: the price has been $299.99

    Then finally this Tuesday I went there to buy, I checked the online price, it jumped to $329.99. I do have a mover coupon which is good for 10% off a single item. So I used, but I will have been really happy if I could have used it when the price is $299.99 instead. This mover coupon said any single item with some exclusions and I believe this Westinghouse 48" is not in the exclusion list.
    After I bought Tuesday, I checked the price online today, man, it went back to $299.99. Your price mathcing policy said if the price lowered within the return period, we could get the difference back. Then I went back to the Best Buy at Fairlawn, Ohio (Montrose) location where I bought my TV. But they refuse to return the difference saying I used that coupon.
    But key issue here is not using the coupon. That coupon DOES NOT SAY anything about not using on a sale item at all!!!!!
    If I return the TV today and they give me back that coupon, I would have been able to buy this one again at $299.99 AND using that coupon again!  So It is very UNFAIR they are doing that.
    Very disappointed and frustrated. Please help me to get this issue straightened out!! I follow all the rules, but that store clerk did not seem to understand that coupon is good for on sale items too and that TV is not on the exclusion list so they should follow the price matching promise and issue me the credit!!!!!!

    You should take the time to familiarize yourself with the documentation that is available.  You can "uncheck" a song in iTunes, and then do a manual update.

    I do understand your frustration and respect the time taken in this regard.
    Let us try few troubleshooting steps, which will resolve this issue.
    Please do update the Adobe Application Manager before performing the below steps.
    1) Please click on License this software in Serial number screen and try activating the subscription.
    If you still prompt you to enter the serial number.
           2) Re-check have you used the email address to sign-in which is used to purchase the subscription, however please click on " I have a different email address" and sign-in again.
            Hopefully it will resolve the issue, if your still stuck in the same issue please reply back, will try my best to resolve this issue

  • I Feel Completely Helpless And Frustrated

    Hello everyone,
    I feel completely helpless and frustrated. A couple nights ago I worked in logic pro 9 with no problem, except some crashes, which I learned to live with. I turned off my computer and went to bed. The next day I turned on logic and the note heads were missing. The staves, Stems and ledger lines are visible but no note heads. I did not do anything out of the ordinary, nor did I download anything from the internet so I can't imagine that I got hit with a virus. I tried some troubleshooting like turning off fonts but that did not help. I posted myb problem on the Logic discussion page but I got no feedback. I have arranging and scoring deadline to meet and I am completely lost. Would an Apple Tech Support PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME. I consider the equipment I'm using (Mac Pro and Logic Pro 9) as top of the line and to be sitting here with my work tools being useless is extremely painful. Can apple PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me why this is happening, and help me with a solution??

    The problems you habe are probably a side effect of the crashes you had, and the song file could be corrupted. Maybe there's a problem with your hardware (memory, hard drive etc...) - knock wood, but Logic practially never (as in only once every few months) crashes here.
    My suggestion is that you look up the pdf-manual or help sysem and find out how you can import your data into a new song. If you do that, and find why Logic is crashing for you, your problems could be gon onc yoiu have imported the needed project data into a new, empty song.
    Alternatively – upload your problemtic project file so one of us can look at it for you.

  • Unexplained activation delay and frustration thank...

    I'm moving house on 6th August so made arrangements to change my line to my new address and in addition add a broadband connection. This was ordered nearly 2 weeks ago and was told that activation would take place on 5th August. Everything seemed to be fine until today when I received a voicemail message from BT telling me that there was going to be a delay in the activation and that I would be contacted again on 19th August.
    I rang BT and asked them to shed some light on why there was a delay. I was first told that there wasn't a delay; that everything was on track for the order to be completed and connection established on 5th August. So I then asked why I had received the message in first place, and was just told 'I don't know, it must have been a mistake.' When I then asked the member of staff if she could therefore guarentee that it would fine for the 5th Aug, she wouldn't commit and so I asked her to check with the suppliers department who left the message. 10 minutes later the member of staff returned and told me that there was already a broadband provider supplying the address and that I would have to get the code to allow BT to connect me. I know for certain that there is no supply to that address - I checked before I even rang BT to order the service - and said as much to the woman on the call. She then rang the suppliers department again (for another 5 minutes) and then returned and said 'It might be the 5th'. I asked her again for a conclusive answer and she could not provide me with one, and could not provide me with a reason for why it might not be the 5th.  I like to keep a record of customer service calls I make so I asked for the operatives name, and she was very reluctant to give it to me, something else I found frustrating. So I'm absolutely nowhere with getting an answer out of BT and frustrated with the very unhelpful nature of a 45 minute (in total) phone call.
    I need an answer on this ASAP - being internet-less until the 19th would be a major hassle and I would have to seriously consider cancelling my order and going with another company, especially considering the customer service I received today. I just hope that the dire level of care received today isn't indicative of the general level provided by BT - I would hope that I was just unlucky, but reading some of the posts on the forum doesn't really instill confidence...
    Would appreciate any suggestions of where to go next to get a resolution to this issue. Cheers!

    I have no idea what I did. Things were going fine and now I cannot get the email to work on my blackberry torch. I even went to the AT& T store for them to help.  An email was sent that instructed me on how to change my password.  It said that my user name was my email address but when I put that in as a user name, I keep getting a message saying that is incorrect as it is an internet name.  I really wish there were a LIVE person that could help me.

    I am a real live person (well my wife does have doubts.)  Let's see what we can do.
    Is this an AT&T email address? Can you login via PC to the AT&T website where you get your email and is it valid? ? Did you delete the aborted setup on the Blackberry device? Unlike hand grenades and nuclear weapons you get another chance at this.

  • Airport Express; Seriously unreliable and frustrating. Please Help?

    I'm a bit of a novice with Macs but not to the extent that I can't follow some some simple instructuons !
    I have a 2009 Unibody Macbook Pro running OSX 10.8.5 and use an Airport Express 2nd generation to send music from iTunes to the Express and then a phono cable from the Airport Express to my hi fi. The Express is no more that 2 meters away, yes ONLY two meters away yet it's always been very unreliable.
    I find that when I wake in the morning and switch everything on then double click an internet radio station I have in itunes that the Airport Express will be located after a little while and begin playing sound thorugh to my speakers.
    If how ever I switch everything on and leave it for longer that 3 minute then click an sound file in iTunes that iTunes or Airport Utility can't locate the Express.
    Also if I then switch off the Express and back on after only a short while iTunes or Airport utility still doesn't find it. I find that I have to switch it off for much longer periods then make sure I start playing music in iTunes right away or I'll miss a window of connection if I get one at all or then again the Airport Express wont be detected.
    I've tried a soft re-set and a hard re-set but this doesn't change any thing.
    To me The Airport Express is extremely unrealible and frustrating to use.
    Can any of you suggest what else I could try that would enable to me to more reliably connect and send music to my Airport Express?

    Keeping saying that somthing is a bad product when a) you are not that technical and b) new to mac is not really fair now is it.   I've got 6 Airports in Total - 4 AE 1 time machine and one old Extreme - they all work perfectly together. And the correct network configuration is always tricky. Most people never set it up right.
    We are here to help!
    Personally I have issues with Virgin's Super Hub and resorted to turning off the Wifi and router part of it, so it's just a modem and having an Airport express be a Router and I have 4 others connecting to that.
    Not for your problem... If you don't need the signal boost and are happy with the connection in the house, certainly in the room you are in then just 'Join a network' Way simpler and will not cause possible network conflictions.
    For example if you try and extend a network you can sometimes get double nat errors.   What you don't want it for the Airport AND the BT hub to act as routers on the same network  - you only want one.
    Also, just did some more research on here 'airport and homehub' The BT hub appears to not have Open WDS standards.  So more than likely that is your issue if you are trying to extend the network. May work for a while then fall over.
    Another thing to check is the Wireless security type on your home hub it seems.  Both should be the same.
    WEP  (Avoid!)
    WPA2 - PSK - AES
    WPA - PSK - TKIP
    WPA/WPA2 Personal
    WPA2 Personal

  • I am furious and Verizon doesn't seem to care!!

    I am a long time Verizon customer.  I actually date back to 1997 when I was a part of Airtouch.  Regardless, I am having an issue where equipment charges have been added onto my account.  Back in early December 2014 my daughter and I upgraded our IPhones from the 5 series to the 6 series.  Each new phone had individual postage paid envelopes to mail back the older devices. I put each phone in its respective envelope and mailed both devices back to Verizon on December 22nd. Both devices were received on December 30th. 
    However, on December 25th I did receive email notices from Verizon telling me that my daughter’s phone had not been received.  Yet, when the saw via the USPS website that both devices had been received on December 30th I thought that this would cancel out the emails received prior, because Verizon had received both devices.
    Fast forward to the last week of February 2015, I look at my Verizon account to see how much my current charges are and I notice that I have over $700 worth of equipment charges on my account.  My equipment charges are generally somewhere in the $100+ range. 
    I call Verizon on February 26th.  I speak to a seemingly very helpful gentleman.  I explain the situation and he tells me that he called the warehouse and they confirmed that they received both devices.  He was even able to tell me that the warehouse team would credit my account $622.84 seeing the warehouse had indeed received both devices.  I called at 9:09am MT.  The gentleman told me that the credit would be on my account by 2:00pm MT. 
    I checked my account on February 27th and the charges had not been removed.  I called in again.  This time I spoke to a young woman that clearly had no idea what she was doing.  Or at least, that’s what I thought.  Really, what was happening was she was trying to understand what the last guy that I spoke to did and how it was that he was able to tell me that my account would be credited.  She basically wasted 25 minutes of my life and she too did nothing to fix this, despite telling me that she did.
    I called again on March 3rd.  Unlike before, I was able to find my tracking numbers and give them to the young woman I was speaking to.  Maybe it’s just me, but upon receiving the tracking number, I would think that this is an open and shut case.  The tracking number definitely prove that the devices were received by Verizon.  I was foolishly thinking, “OK.  You have the ESNs (the electronic serial numbers) for both phones.  You have the tracking numbers used for each phone.  You know the phones were received and you can put the tracking numbers against each.  This should be enough to remove the charges from my account.”
    Well, I was wrong. Apparently, there is a process that involves a form that has to be filled out.  As expected, the young woman, nor her team lead, could tell me when my account would be credited.  Nor could neither tell my why two different representatives were not able to follow the correct process to take care of this.  Also, as per the team lead, the area that has to handle this is one of those areas that NO ONE in the world can call to contact.  So, I am to believe that there is a place in Fort Worth, TX, where people go to work checking in received devices that has no form of communication between it and the rest of Verizon.  However, the form somehow can mysteriously make its way there.
    So, just for grins, I looked at my account today.  The $622.84 is still on my account.  I have no way of really following this up.  I am just supposed to believe that it’s going to take care of itself.  I am livid!  This is ridiculous.  I am furious that this is what 18 years of being a customer has earned me.

  • Extremely Disappointed and Frustrated with ZFS

    I feel like crying. In the last 2 years of my life ZFS has caused me more professional pain and grief than anything else. At the moment I'm anxiously waiting for a resilver to complete, I expect that my pool will probably fault and I'll have to rebuild it.
    I work at a small business, and I have two Solaris 11 servers which function as SAN systems primarly serving virtual machine disk images to Proxmox VE cluster. Each is fitted with an Areca 12 port SATA controller put in JBOD mode, and populated with WD Caviar Black 2TB drives (probably my first and biggest mistake, was in not using enterprise class drives). One system is configured as a ZFS triple mirror, and the other a double mirror, both have 3 hot spares.
    About a year ago I got CKSUM errors on one of the arrays I promptly ran zpool scrub on the array, and stupidly I decided to scrub the other array at the same time. The scrub quickly turned into resilvers on both arrays as more CKSUM errors were uncovered, and as the resilver continued the CKSUM count rose until both arrays faulted and were irrecoverable. Irrecoverable metadata corruption was the error I got from ZFS. After 20+ hours of attempted recovery, trying to play back the ZIL I had to destroy them both and rebuild everything. I never knew for certain what the cause was, but I suspected disk write caching on the controller, and/or the use of a non-enterprise class flash drive for ZIL.
    In the aftermath did extremely thorough checking of all devices. I checked each backplane port, each drive for bad sectors, SATA controller onboard RAM, main memory, ran extended burn-in testing, etc. I then rebuilt the arrays without controller write caching and no seperate ZIL device. I also scheduled weekly scrubbing, and scripted ZFS alerting.
    Yesterday I got an alert from the controller on my array with the triple mirror about read errors on one of the ports. I ran a scrub which completed and then I proceeded to replace the drive I was getting read errors on. I offlined the old drive and inserted a brand new drive and ran zfs replace. Re-silver started fast and then the rate quickly dropped down to 1.0MB/s, my controller began spitting out a multitude of SATA command timeout errors on the port of the newly inserted drive. Since the whole array had essential froze up, I popped the drive out and everything ran back at full speed, resilvering against one of the hot spares. Now the resilver soon started uncovering CKSUM errors similar to the disaster I had last year. Error counts rose and now my system dropped another drive off in the same mirror set and is resilvering 2 drives in the same set, with the third drive in the set showing 6 CKSUM errors. I'm afraid I'm going to lose the whole array again, as the only drive left in the set is showing errors as well. WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!
    So I suspect I have a bad batch of disks, however, why the heck did zfs scrub complete and show no errors? What is the point of ZFS scrub if it doesn't accuratly uncover errors? I'm so frustrated that these types of errors seem to show up only during resilvers. I'm beginning to think ZFS isn't as robust as advertised....

    FMA does notify admins automatically through the smtp-notify service via mail notification to root. You
    can customize this service to send notification to your own email account on any system.
    The poster said he has scripted for ZFS, but I don't know if that means reviewing zpool status or
    FMA data.
    With ongoing hardware problems, you need to review FMA data as well. See the example below.

  • Are you disappointed and frustrated with the Note 3? I feel the pain!

    I feel everyone's pain with the Note 3 Issues!  I have been in the tech field for 20 years and Verizon treats me as if it is the first time they are hearing about the issues! Rather that work on a fix, I've been told that I can leave my contract with no penalties!
    I have documentation and screen shots of all my issues and here is the short list of what I've been through....
    1. 80 + hours on the phones with a support team that close tickets without resolution, transfers you around the country to different call centers to start all over again,
    2. 3 emails to Verizon Executive Office
    3. A refurbished phone replacement of my brank NEW Note 3 that I was told would definitely fix the issues..
    4. 4 Visits to Verizon stores, 2 Simm Card replacements, 2 Network Extenders, replacement charger cord and new battery
    5. Conference calls with Samsung
    6. Been offered a less expensive phone replacement for "free" ... yeah Verizon trade my Mercedes priced phone for a Neon...
    7. Calls not returned by support agents
    8. Text messages from technicians initiated by Verizon to me, from their work domain, never responded after multiple conversations with screen shots sent showing my issue
    My issues:
    1. Network signal drops constantly in my home. No mobile network errors, dropped calls, hanging texts, 1x signals. I am told by one group that I am in a 4g covered area and the other group that I am in a weak coverage area! My other Verizon phone has 4g yet support can't understand my logic that it is a phone issue!
    2. Slow charging messages to use the original charger with my screen shot plugged into the brand new SAMSUNG charger
    3. Battery usage of 10% per hour when my phone would last all day before the KitKat update and still have almost 70% remaining
    4. Overnight battery drainage in 7 hours from 91% to 27% while OFF..no wifi on and no Bluetooth on
    5. PIctures in my Gallery, that I can see and get file information for that are NOT there in the SD folder identified,  and then mysterious disappear forever
    All since the mandatory software update that you can not refuse, delete or revert back to factory version!
    So now they are going to bring the Note 4 into the mix with KitKat 4.4.4 before they update and fix the software for the owners of the Note 3...
    So what do I do?  Switch to the Note 4 or wait or wait months with TERRIBLE service while Verizon tries to fix a bad update?    By the time that happens Lollipop with be out!
    This is so frustrating... the big 3 point the fingers around rather than collaborate..
    Google makes the base Android Software update for a hardware device manufactured by Samsung that is sold by and placed on a Verizon Network. Verizon tweaks the software for "their" business. Verizon sends refurbished phones while under factory 1 year Warranty and sends devices . Samsung says everything leaves their business working properly but I can send my phone to them and be without my phone for 10 days while they "properly" flash the device for free.  They tell me  Verizon does not flash the device the same way and their way is "better". Who do I trust?  And be without my phone for 10 days because Samsung "rigorously" tests everything??? 
    And to top it all off... I wrote to Samsung's "Voice of the Customer" which is supposedly and direct complaint to the Executive Level. I wrote 3 times and 3 weeks later still no contact from Samsung. They should call it the "Voice into the Abyss!"
    I'm sooooooooooo disappointed with my experience this year....

    gooeysgran, we don't want this to be an ongoing issue for you. Have you powered your device off/on since retrieving that software update? Have you tried removing that Wi-Fi connection in the settings of your device?
