IMac 24 connection to HP 5100

I just got an HP 5100 printer to replace my old faithful 4MV but cannot get the new printer to print. I simply connected the ethernet cable from the 4MV to the 5100 Jet Direct card and all seems to work normally but, when I send a page to print, nothing happens. I've selected the 5100 in the print window and, in the printer monitor window, the file is qued up and the message is 'attempting to connect to host NPIB956A5.local. for printer BINPS'. The file is an Illustrator CS3 file.
When I connected the 4MV a while back I had to assign an address to the printer before it would print. Do I have to go thru that step with the 5100? If so, can you direct me to specific directions?
Note: the 5100 seems to be OK and prints a configuration page normally so I don't think the printer is the problem, just the connection.
Can you help? Thanks.

Marcus,
There is a printing forum for leopard users. I suggest you repost there. I also suggest you install the printer using the instructions it came with, from your description it sounds like you have totally bypassed that step.
The forum you need is: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1224
Best of luck,
Roger

    This could be problematic.
It will depend on what model of iMac you have.
You may want to post machine info.
blue apple > about this mac > more info button. Click on the hardware line. It has a little triangle in front of the work hardware.
    Leave out the serial number.
    Example:
    Machine Name: iMac
    Machine Model: PowerMac4,1
    CPU Type: PowerPC 750 (33.11)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 600 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    Memory: 768 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.1.9f1
Most of the iMac's have sometype of video output port on the back.  You will problably need a converter.
The 'hollywood' industry has been making it more difficult to get video out over time to prevent copying.

If you are running Mac OS X 10.7.3 then you have Lion installed, not Snow Leopard. It's probably not important to this discussion, but something you should be aware of.
What application are you printing the PDF files from? Have you tried opening the PDF file using the Preview application that can be found in the Applications folder? Does the issue still occur? Have you tried other PDF files from a different source?
Another poster in the following discussion thread reported that this method resolved their black blank PDF issue when viewing (and presumably printing) PDF files from Safari.

There's a solution if you want to see the PDF inside Safari's window :
Go to the folder : Your Hard Drive / Library / Internet Plug-ins.
If you see a file with PDF in its name drag it to the trash.
Quit and restart Safari to test with a PDF.
If it works you can empty the trash.

Went through this step-by-step, but alas it did not solve the problem. For some reason I can download mail on my Macbook Pro and iPhone, but no my iMac. Connection Doctor shows all green lights. This started today when I was prompted to re-enter incoming mail server passwords. I re-entered passowrds yet again to make sure they were correct. Rebuilt the inBox. Connection Doctor continues to show all green lights, but am still unable to download mail to the inbox. Has anyone else ever run into this problem?

I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2.  My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone).  I  was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did.

  • New iMac will connect to Airport but not Internet

I've just bought an Intel iMac 2.94ghz, brought it home and tried to get it onto the internet.
It sees my wireless network and connects just fine, with all bars full. But if I try to view a page in Safari, I get the 'You are not connect to the Inernet' page. I've tried restarting, turning wireless on and off, restarting my router, restarting, reseting and updating the firmware on my Airport Extreme, dumping AppleAirport kexts, disabling IPv6, renewing the DHCP lease (always comes back self-assigned) etc etc but nothing helps.
    Additional info:
    * my iPhone, MacBookPro and girlfriend's Windows laptop all still connect to the internet fine
    * my iMac can see and connect to the other computers on the network, and vice versa
    * my iMac cannot connect to my router, unless I manually assign my iMac an IP address
    * if I manually assign my iMac an IP address, I can see my router, but am still 'not connected to the internet'
Has anyone got any ideas what could be wrong here, or should I be taking my iMac back to the Apple store?

Bought my iMac in February and worked fine up until about a month ago. I have assigned a manual IP address outside the range of other devices in my network (e.g. 192.168.0.10) and this seems to do the trick (most of the time). The problem I had was the self assigned IP address wasn't in the usual range for my router so while I was connected to Airport and the internet I couldn't view any webpages. Had to do the same thing to my Macbook which I purchased about a month ago.
The strange and very frustrating thing is sometimes it doesn't recognise my preferred network but then when it asks me to join a network, my network appears! When I try to connect and confirm password, connection times out. Whats that all about?
The bottom line is the assigned IP solution doesn't always work but it seems a combination of issues rather than one. None of the other devices on my network (ReadyNas Duo, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii etc) have issue connecting to the router using DHCP but for some reason Airport has trouble dealing with this and assigning a correct IP or can't find the network all together.
Only thing I can think is its some Airport update that has caused these intermittent issues and realy hope they fix it soon.
So no update but just wanted to share my experiences in what seems a very wide scale issue...

  • Is it possible that iMac corrupts connected external hdd-s drive via USB?

Is it possible that iMac corrupts connected external hdd-s drive via USB? (two wd cav. green 2tb from different purchase went down in one day, both from the backside usb ports)
First one of my video storage hdd, full of files suddenly got extremely slow, and a few minutes later, it unmounted itself, but with the unmount error, but nobody even touched the cables, electricity etc. When I tried to mount it again, it did not respond, just give a periodical load light and ticking. First I thought it must be hardware failure, but since I bought a brand new drive today and it made the same problem as soon as I tried to format it. I got suspicious. The consol, said about these - i googled all but now solution so far. (WesternFresh is my drive)
Oct 23 17:10:58 xxxx fseventsd[47]: disk logger: failed to open output file /Volumes/WesternFresh/.fseventsd/636573acca1d6550 (No such file or directory). mount point /Volumes/WesternFresh/.fseventsd

    Oct 24 17:23:05 tmdc diskarbitrationd[16]: unable to probe /dev/disk1 (status code 0xFFFFFFFA).
and there was an I/O faliure not but it was on another mac - where i hoped itt will come back to live.
I think - if it is possible - that the OS maybe misunderstand something about these drives, and try to change - maybe permissions - all the time if a usb external connects...? (I am not really into it as you see )
Also about Disk Utility - it does not see any partition on the old hdd, but i shows the name of the product. If I connect the new hdd via the keyboard usb, the disk utility is able to see and format it, but the hdd will be still slow and tikking after it.
Also I tried Disk Warrior (freezd out) and Techtool Pro 6 thanks to some ol'frineds - which also not saw the old hdd, but did nothing useful with the new one.
About cav green: I have 3 of them and no error so far, and got 4 1tb cav green in 2 mybook studio II also without any problem.
Iam a bit scared, and try not to plug in any usb hdd-s now, but I have to continue work, so I need solutions.
I hope if it is not hardware failure, maybe some tricky terminal code will bring back the viability of my old hdd - and I won't have to spend a lot of money to recover data.
    strange.
    if anybody has a clue?
    update 1:
    i found this post also:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15905481#15905481
I also made the mentioned steps - but it is a bit different sice it reproduce itself and I cant use DU.

It turned out that WD is the big bad guy in this game.
According the data rescue company where I asked for an inspection, both of the drives had their reader head loose. And in the one, which was my already-in-use disk its even damaged the platters... xxxxx
So its time to pay bunch of money to recover, and take a walk to wd service to bang on the desk.
Also note - it may be somehow related to intellispeed technology - since macs not really friendly with wd-s built-in solutions.
On the other hand, with WD GP 1Tb there is no problems at all for ages.
    thanks guys, thread is closed

When our iPad is in use on the internet, my iMac internet connection goes off. I can't get the two devices to work at the same time with the AirPort Express. Is there a setting somewhere I may have missed?

When two or more devices conflict it typically means that the DHCP service is either misconfigured or is not running at all. DHCP provides IP addresses to local network clients.
Is your AirPort Express base station the only router in your current network configuration? That is, is it connected directly to an Internet modem and not to another router upstream of it?

  • IMac Yosemite connection problem

Yesterday updated my 2014 iMac to Yosemite 10.10.2 .
Up to that moment everything worked ok but after updating the iMac doesn't connect to Wifi, doesn't connect to the internet even when connected by ethernet.
How the **** can you restore an iMac that doesn't connect to anything?

In System Preferences --> Network --> Location bar (top of the screen). Pull down the the menu bar and click on "edit locations". Click the plus button to add a new Network Location then click Apply. See if that will force your iMac to connect to a network.

  • IMAC looses connection to Printer

Computer will not print and seems to lose connection to the printer. I deleted all printers and made a new printer connection. Printer has address 192.168.0.14.  Later IMAC looses connection to printer again. I look at address on printer and it is now 192.168.0.15. Its done this several times. So why does the printer keep changing its address? Is there a way to set it permanently?

Hi  I may have found what you are looking for to set the printer up with a dedicated IP Address. The printer obtains the IP address from your router, I'm not sure why your router is reassigning the IP addresses so frequently.  All of the steps for troubleshooting the Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection are on available on that document, but I have copied the basics on setting up the Static IP address. (Solution five: Assign the printer a static IP address) You can review that document and try the other solutions if you continue to have connectivity issues. Locate your printer's current IP address, which you already haveOpen an Internet browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc.) on your computer.Type your printer's IP address in the browser's address bar, and then press Enter. The Embedded Web Server (EWS) opens.Click the Network tab from the EWS navigation menu.In the Wireless section, click the Network Address (IP) or IPv6 configuration, depending on your network setup.Click Manual IP, and then click Suggest a Manual IP Address.
A manual IP address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway displays.Don't forget to save or apply the settings I believe you might want to try to refresh your network connection afterwards. Power cycling your router allows it to reestablish a fresh connection to all of your devices. Here's how to power cycle your network if you are unsure: 1) Unplug the power cable from your wireless router (NOTE: Do not reset the router)
    2) Do the same for the printer
    3) Shut down the computer
    4) First plug the router back in, and wait for it to fully power up
    5) Then plug the printer back in and wait for the wireless light to become solid.
    6) Once both the router and printer are on, go ahead and turn the computer back on  Check to make sure the manual IP address has stayed on the printer.
You may also have to remove and add your printer in Printers and Scanners.Open your System Preferences, click on Printers and Scanners.Click the name of your printer, click the minus sign (), and then delete the printer.Once the printer is removed, click the plus sign (), click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer  Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you!   Thanks,

  • Cannot get iMac to connect to AE or TC wireless, can connect by ethernet

I Cannot get iMac to connect to AE or TC wireless, can connect by ethernet. All other devices (iPad, Apple TV, Roku, iPhone, iPad Touch) can connect to wireless network without any issues. OS is 10.6.6, both apple TC and AE are current with their software. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

AE=Airport Extreme? or Express? - you mention TC (Time Capsule) above, but, I don't want to assume.
*Sorry, it is Extreme, and yes TC is Time Capsule*
If Time Capsule, have you tried to a reset? - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
    *Yes did full factory reset*
What band are your using - 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz?
    *2.4 GHz*
What is your TC connected to - what type of router - cable or dsl?
    Cable
Thanks again for your patience in helping to resolve!

  • IMac cannot connect to a certain shared server

My iMac is currently connected to a network. When I open my finder, it show's all the computer/servers I can connect to under the tab 'Share'. I click all button (to see all the shared computers/servers).When I come to connect to the server I want, it says 'Connection failed'.
When I click on connect As it give me this error :
There was a problem connecting to the server “XXXXXX”.
The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
Another iMac can connect to the network/server, so I know it's not a server problem. I have been searching a while, and have tried a few suggestions that said to try change some of the options of the shared settings, but nothing has worked so far :/
I would be grateful for any help!

Luckily for you, I did figure it out
    1. Finder -> Go -> Connect to Server (or cmd k)
    2. put user and pass into the connection string, here an example: "smb://user:pass@servername" (without the quotes)
Essentially just connect to "smb://user:pass@servername"  and login, with user name and password. Then you should be all set!
    Hope that helps.

  • AirPort in Intel iMac loses connection and does not see network

I bought an Intel iMac in the summer of '06. I had no problems connecting my airport card to my house wireless network which uses an AirPort Extreme Base Station.
In september I brought my iMac to college and used an AirPort Express as my base station. I had no problems other than that the computer did not automatically reconnect to the network upon start up.
In december I returned home and configured the AirPort Express (located on the main level of the house) to extend the network of the AirPort Extreme (located upstair in the bedroom next to my iMac).
Lately the iMac loses connectivity to the wireless network randomly while the computer is on, even in the middle of using it. Not only does it lose the signal but does not list my network when i click the airport signal icon on the top bar of the screen. Once in a while it will have it listed but will give me an error when trying to connect. The only way I have of fixing the problem is to restart the computer.
I know the airport base station works fine and the network is still there becasue I have a PowerBook G4 that I will put right next to the iMac and the PowerBook will still be connected to the network.
    Can someone help?

I have a very similar problem. My machine's airport connection has always been a little flaky, but it's always gone on working. However, yesterday I turned on WEP 128 bit encription. It now connects for a few minutes and then I see the signal strength gradually die until it goes off completely. There are then two ways to get it back working: 1. close the lid, then open it again; 2. tun off the airport, then turn it on again. When I do that the signal strength suddenly comes on full after about 3 seconds. The G4 iMac I have doesn't suffer from this problem. I am using a netgear access port as the base station.

  • Can i have my imac stay connected to my wireless router

When i log on to my imac it connects to my router, when i log off it disconects. I want it to be always connected to the router so i can use it to share the air port connection to the ethernet 24/7 even when logged off.

Your iMac is a client in terms of Airport.  It sounds like you are connected to your router (such as a cable modem) directly via Ethernet.  Am I correct or do you have an Airport Extreme or Airport Express base station or third-party base station?  Please describe your network in more detail.
If you have an Airport base station that is connected to your internet router via Ethernet, you can connect your computer to the base station directly with an Ethernet cable or simply use the computer’s Airport card to join your base station’s network as a client.  When you turn off your computer, your base station network is still completely operational.  Your base station may have several Ethernet ports allowing you to connect up to three additional Ethernet devices, all of which will remain operational with the computer off.  The network (Ethernet or wireless) is driven from the base station, not the computer.

In Firefox 3.6.4 and later the default connection settings have been changed to "Use the system proxy settings".<br />
See "Firefox connection settings" in [[Server not found]]
You can find the connection settings in "Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection"<br />
