IMac system stops responding repeatedly

Hi,
My iMac running on Lion Os is having some serrious issues since a while. It starts up without a problem but after a little while most things stop responding to mouse clicks or clicks suddenly provoke closure of windows and sudden scrolling. This happens on a daily base and most of the time rebooting( or updating) does not resolve the issue and the symptoms are getting worse. Sometimes the computer will just stay stuck from the start and only the side bar will react to the mouse clicks. It really reminds me of  a virus from back in the windows days...Thx.

Remove the "MacKeeper" crapware as follows. First, back up all data.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions, nor do I intend to repeat the test.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Applications from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. A dialog will pop up asking why you want to uninstall it. You don't have to provide that information. Enter anything you like in the text box, then click the Uninstall button. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. That's the only useful feature of "MacKeeper:" it deletes itself. Reboot.
Do not try to uninstall by dragging the MacKeeper icon in the Dock or the LaunchPad to the Trash.
Here are some general suggestions. If you want your computer to be usable, don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” "tune-ups," “accelerators,” “extenders,” “cleaners,” “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this kind of material is useless, or worse than useless.
The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
The only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it.

Hello,  Currently we are seeing this issue with a couple of our Lenovo T420s laptops with a Solid State Drive.  ruffly about 10 or so.  The Reboots happen randomly and do not create a dump file.  We have contacted Lenovo and they are
not sure why its happening.  Since this Crash I set it for Minidump this did not work my next steps will be to Disable Automatic restart on System Failure to see if it brings anything up.  I am also looking at using Procmon to dump to a file as well.
If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

    Thank you.

We have tested and checked both the Bios and firmware of the SSD Drive's
Bios was up to date and no issue
Firmware was also up to date as well.
Users are still experiencing random Reboots.   I tried to capture the issue with Procmon but since the PC shutdown (Goes to a black screen no power at all even when turning the "Automatically
restart" off under Startup and Recovery) No dmp files as of yet.  Unable to configure Procdump due to not knowing where the issue is and what is causing it to happen.
Going to replace one of the PC's with a New one with different hardware to see if this resolve the issue.  If anyone has any idea's to be able to capture what maybe happening that would
    be great.
    Thank you.

  • How can i get my imac to stop responding to the apple tv remote?

I installed my Apple TV in the same room as my IMac computer and when ever I use the Apple TV remote to watch a movie, my computer starts responding.  Is there any way to stop my IMac computer from responding to the remote?

Go to system preferences - security - advanced - disable remote control infrared receiver.

  • IMac Keyboard stops responding and other quirky issues

My iMac has started experiencing some weird behavior this week when working with Microsoft Office 2008 applications. So far I have had issues with both Excel and Entourage. With Excel, when I started working in a spreadsheet I have used previously with no issues, I noticed that when I switched to Safari to do a search, the keyboard would not write in the search bar, even though I could click inside it with my mouse. The data I was typing was showing up in my spreadsheet. I tried typing in the address bar of Safari the same thing happened. I switched to the Excel app and closed my spreadsheet, but still not luck with the keyboard. I tried to quit Excel and it would not respond. I tried the Force Quit, and when it opened it showed no programs at all running, even though I had Excel, Safari and Finder open at the time. I tried to restart and shutdown and neither worked. I was forced to do a hard reboot with the button. I experimented with trying to open another spreadsheet in Excel and had the same thing happen again. After scratching my head on this one, I opened up Entourage to retrieve an attachment on an email from a business partner. When I tried to save the attachment to an external hard drive it gave me an error message saying there was a problem saving file - an I/O error occurred, even though the file showed up on the drive I had selected. Once again the keyboard became unresponsive in doing anything, although the mouse and trackpad still worked. Force quit again failed to show any programs open, although several were open and running. Restart and Shutdown both failed and I was forced to do the hard shutdown once more. I opened Entourage again and tried to save a different attachment and experienced the same problem. I do have the latest updates for both the iMac and Microsoft 2008. Both released updates a few weeks ago with no apparent issues after the updates till now. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any suggestions on what steps to take to resolve this issue? Is this the right forum to address this issue?

See if you get this behavior using another account.
See what happens when you safe boot.

  • Firefox stops responding during Gmail and Google, why?

The last few weeks, Firefox 4.1.0, on my XP SP3 system, stops responding while I am sending Gmail, frequently, stopping the transmission. Today, for the first time, it stopped responding while I was searching on Google.
The LAST thing I want to do is go back to Microsoft's IE.
    JMS

Well, clearing cookies and cache over and over does not work.
Also, Firefox stops working with many sites now and I am tired of closing it down every 3 minutes. So, my solution this morning was to import my bookmarks to Google Chrome and it worked. After using Firefox for many, many years, I will now be using Google Chrome.

  • My iMac has stopped waking for network access

My iMac has stopped responding for network access. I have two iMacs on the network, both are configured, for sharing and Power saving, the same. I use ReadPixels' Wake on Lan or Go connect to server from the finder, neither one will wake one iMac. the other iMac works fine. I used to be able to wake the other iMac either way but for some reason, recently (I don't use the feature often) it has stopped working. The Wake on Lan program shows "My other iMac" as being awake. When "My other iMac" is awake I have no problem logging on.
When attemting access using the finder "Go connect to server" I get this message. The server "My other iMac" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection and then try again.
    Any hints?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem.  Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

That panic was not caused by third-party software. If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are:
A stale or corrupt kernel cache
    A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
    Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation (after erasing the startup volume) may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place, without erasing.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model. Memory that is either slower or faster than specified may be incompatible.
The Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
If your system is not fully up to date, running Software Update might get you a bug fix.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
If none of the above applies, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least  two independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Firefox halts facebook repeatedly; firefox stops responding; just stared Tues March 30

this started March 30/11. Firefox repeatedly stops responding. Firefox causes Facebook to halt for seconds to minutes. when typing on Facebook, it can take 2 minutes to type one word. Extremely annoying. other websites are fine. Other browsers are fine, no problems like this with Facebook on Internet Explorer or on Chrome. No problems playing the Zynga games, they work fine. Just Facebook.
I am using a Laptop with Windows 7. lots of RAM lots of hard disk space.

I managed to solve this problem as my computer has been giving me problems lately and completely froze on me the other day thanks to Game Booster Beta 3 and completely screwed with Windows 7 to the point I almost had to reinstall again, but I managed to fix all my problems and if you would just follow my link here over to my post on Seven Forums then it would be easier then explaining it again.
http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/180714-windows-7-professional-64-bit-logs-but-almost-frozen-3.html#post1550277 The reason for this is if you shut down your computer while running Firefox, it's possible you corrupted your User Profile for FF and if you follow my instructions you can repair it instead of making a new, so just follow the link, read my post and if you have anymore problems just message me on Seven Forums. Have a nice day and hopefully you get it all fixed. :b

Microsoft Office 2004 (Word) unable to save files
I have been running Office 2004 on my Intel iMac with Snow Leopard for some time and all of a sudden I cannot save a document. Word just stopped responding and I have to force quit. I can open Word and create a new document but I cannot save it. I reinstalled Word but that didn’t help. Then went to the Internet and found at least one other Mac user having the same problem which it suggests is caused by a recent Mac Security Update:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2004-macword/word-2004-wil l-not-open-or-save-documents/b04eb870-9b0d-4f3b-bb47-b122301e36f6
So I check for a new Mac Security Update and sure enough there was one. I downloaded it and now Word seems to be working, as it should. I can both open and save files. The only problem remaining is that when I open Word I get the following error message “An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library”. I contacted Apple but they were unable to help.
How can I get rid of this error message?

Look, I realize you might have to get your machine working, so this is how you revert back.
    Restore proceedure to pre-Security Update 2012-001 v 1.0 & v 1.1
#1 Backup your personal data off the machine.
Backup files off the computer (not to TimeMachine). If you don't have a external drive, get one and connect to the USB/Firewire port and simply drag and drop copy your User folder to the external drive, it will copy all your files. It's best to have two backups of your data off the machine when trying to restore.
Disconnect all drives now to prevent any mistakes from occuring.
    #2 Reinstall OS X 10.6 from disk
Get out your 10.6 install disk and make sure it's clean and polished (very soft cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol, no scratches) If your disk is borked, you'll have to order a new one from Apple with your serial number.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk (wired keyboard, internal optical drive), use Disk Utility First Aid to >Repair Disk  of your internal drive  (do not format or erase!!), Quit DU and simply re-install 10.6.
Note: Simply reinstalling 10.6 version from disk (without erasing the drive) only replaces 10.6.8 with 10.6.x and bundled Apple programs, won't touch your files (backup anyway)  or most programs, unless they installed a kext file into OS X itself. (only a few on average do this)
    #3 Update to 10.6.8 without Security Update 2012-001 v1.0 or v1.1
Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8 via Software Update, but EXCLUDE THE Security Update 2012-001 by checkinig the details and unchecking the blue check box.
#4 Reinstall any non-working third party programs
When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that require kext files installed into OS X, you'll know, they won't work when you launch them or hang for some reason as they are missing the part they installed into OS X.
If for some freakish reason you get gray screen at any time when booting (possible it might occur when you reinstall older programs), hold the shift key down while booting (Safe Mode, disables kext files) and update your installed third party software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

    That's it really.

  • Firefox stops responding to mouse clicks after one click; am on iMac PPC G5,OS 10.4.11; this freeze happens with Logitech AND Mac mice.

About a month ago Firefox would stop responding to the clicks of my mouse after a click or two. Minimizing the page and reopening, or clicking off to another window and back, sometimes gives me another click or two but it always freezes again. I'm on an iMac G5 PPC (from around 2005) desktop running OS 10.4.11. I have a Logitech mouse and loaded a newer driver, and upgraded to Firefox 3.6.12 but the problem persists. I also tried running in Safe Mode but this did not fix the problem, and tried both the original Mac mouse and my Wacom tablet but neither fixes the problem.

Same problem FF3.6.13 WinXP. I had this before but it went away. Upgraded from Firebug 1.6.1 to 1.6.2 tonight and the problem returned; not sure if that's coincidence.
Weird thing is, it's not just that Firefox doesn't respond to the mouse clicks. The click goes right through Firefox to whatever's underneath. However, only the top FF window is affected. If I have two FF windows open, alt-tab into window A, then into window B (both maximised), then when window B stops responding the clicks are picked up by window A.
With window B not responding but over window A, if I click where window A has a SELECT, window A receives the mouse event and the OPTIONS appear over window B.
Only alt-tabbing to another non-Firefox window fixes the problem, and only temporarily.

  • Sun Java System Application Server Standard stops responding for no reason

    Dear Sun Users and Support.
We ran into an issue that we can't find any cause for. For some reason our Sun Java System Application Server 8.2 Standard stops responding to HTTP calls. Even Admin console can't be invoked. The server by itself appears to be running according to the Windows Services window.
It happens very rarely but once it happens the server needs to be restarted.
There are no logs in the log files.
This happens to multiple Sun Servers at the same time (As if some kind of timer shuts them off).
The servers run on Windows Server 2003.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
These servers are in the production environment and have expected uptime of 99.9%.
    Thank you.

This has happened to us a couple of times and it was caused by Windows running out of TCP/IP connections. Next time it happens do a "netstat -an" to see if you have an extremely large amount of connections in time-wait state.
If you do this is probably the culprit and I'm sorry to say that I don't know of a cure. From what I've heard (objection your honour, hearsay!) this is caused by bugs in Windows TCP/IP stack.
If you require a 99.9% uptime you should perhaps consider switching to Linux or Unix. I know, easier said than done!
    Hope this helps,
    Gunnar

  • Mail App stops responding and the whole system gets stuck!!!

I'm using an iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3 computer with 4GB of RAM.
For the past year or so I have noticed the Mail app stops responding. When I try to close it, it still can't be closed. Even when I try to Force quit it, still it stays the same. When this happens the Safari and other internet based apps can't download data and all I can see is black web pages trying to download data forever.
Then I'm left with the option to restart the computer. When I try to restart the machine. It start closing down all the other running apps and gets stuck when closing down the Mail app. It says "The Mail app does not respond. Please try to close it down Manually" but, still it can't be closed. So I'm only left with the option to shut down the computer by pressing down the power buttion for 4 seconds and start the computer again.
I have been noticing this problem for a while (I think about a year) I was using OS Lion. I recently updated to the new OS X Version 10.9 Mavericks (I believe this is the latest) but, the problem seem to remain unsolved.
    Kind Regards
    Francis
