Imac wireless keyboard automatic up arrow

I'm running into this more and more.  My wireless keyboard starts thinking I'm holding down the UP arrow - even if I'm not home.
I'll come home, the computer is "awake" and the keyboard's battery is nearly drained.
Or, I'm in the middle of typing something and the cursor zips to character position 0 and I'm typing in the start of the message.
Or I'm scrolling (using the mouse) and the computer fights with me, tryng to scroll the page up while I'm trying to scroll it down.
The only cure is to press the DOWN arrow several times until the UP arrow releases.
Is this a known condition with a documented solution, or do I need to consider replacing the keyboard?

It does sound like a faulty keyboard.
One way to confirm that is to use a known-good keyboard to test with, wired or wireless. If the problem disappears, almost certainly the issue is with the keyboard itself.
If you do test that way, be sure to turn your original keyboard off.

  • How to change the battery in the imac wireless keyboard

how to change the battery in the imac wireless keyboard?

FYI, there is no "iMac" wireless keyboard.
If you have an Apple Bluetooth KB, simply remove the plug (screws out) on the left top side of the KB.

  • Imac Wireless Keyboard Cleaning

    Hi guys,
Could I use those L-Type Key Wrench to open from the back of the wireless keyboard? Could that be an easier way to clean it rather than having to extract key by key as some people suggested in the forum?
    Thanks for any help
    Sebastiao

Either get better grade rechargable batteries with charger or just
DItch the Apple wireless keyboard and get their wired version instead.
OR, look at Mac specific keyboards from, Logitech, Microsoft, Kensington, Macally or Matias.
The plus with the wired keyboard is the you get two extra USB 2 ports.
Also, if your Wireless Magic Mouse is eating batteries, same strategy, use better rechargable lithium batteries and charger or try Apple's wireless track pad ( reports indicate that it is better on batteries than the Magic Mouse) or look and better wireless mouse offerings from Microsoft, Logitech, Kensington or Macally.
Apple's wireless device really, REALLY suck on battery life. They look and work great, but they are poor performers with batteries and battery life.. I wish Apple would get rid of their older style wired mouse and make a wired version of the Magic Mouse.
Funny thing, we keep getting posts like this, but when you initially order an iMac from Apple's online store, you get the options of ordering a new iMac with a wired keyboard and wired mouse instead of the wireless setup.
Everyone seems to miss this when ordering online.

  • IPad 2 can't pair with iMac wireless Keyboard (late 2009)

ipad 2 will not pair with wireless keyboard that came with iMac late 2009.
I've read countless ways to do this in support forums, but no matter what I do, I can not get the ipad 2 to work with my wireless keyboard.
In settings>bluetooth, I UNCHECKED discoverable for the keyboard, as I've read many times.
I then clicked the minus button and a box came up ( I can not recall what it said but it basically asked if I wanted to ?remove? the device, and I clicked OK.
Then, I went to the iPad 2, into bluetooth, and went to pair it. The keyboard was discoverable, and then something with a code came up on the iPad screen, and I clicked OK.
NOTHING happened, even though it said it was connected.
I looked at my iMac screen, and there was something there with a code that had to be typed in? This is where I get confused. I disconnected the keyboard, yet I got a box on the iMac screen, asking me to put the code in to pair it with the ipad 2 !  I figured it must be a mistake, because I disconnected the keyboard from the imac.
well, I tried to key in the code and it worked on the IMAC...which, technically, it should not have been able to do.
I've watched countless Youtube videos, read through the support forums here and...I can't find anyone with  this same problem and so, I toss it out to you all in Apple Support.
What could I be doing wrong??
    Thanks.

Spoke with an Apple Care Tech today on this issue:
Apparently, this is how it works : First, you have to go to BLUE TOOTH and when you see your keyboard, delete it or remove it, and then shut down the computer.
Then, you must go to your iPAD. (initially, your blue tooth on iPAD should be TURNED OFF- now, turn it ON.
Press and hold the button on the right side of your keyboard for 5 seconds, and watch for it to blink then go off.
Next, push the button on the side of the keyboard again, it will go on.
On your ipad, under Blue Tooth, you will see some numbers and it might say NOT CONNECTED. Click that.
Be patient and then under that, something like YOUR NAME KEYBOARD will appear. Click it and it will give you a code to type in. Type it in. Be patient. Might not take the first time. Do it again. When the code comes up again, type it in again.
This worked for me as suddenly the keyboard was paired with the iPAD 2.
When you want to unpair it, turn blue tooth on the  ipad OFF. Turn your computer back on. Initially your screen will come up to sign in (if you have it set up that way). In a few seconds, you will see that your keyboard has reconnected to your Mac. Sign in and that's that:)

  • New iMac wireless keyboard and magic mouse dropping connections

Hi looks like I am just another one who's got problems with Apple's wireless keyboard (KB) and magic mouse (MM).
I bought my iMac 21.5 at the beginning of last Dec. For the first few days, I noticed that the connection between MM and iMac dropped perhaps once a day when I was editing some HD footage in iMove 09. I am rather new to Mac so initially I thought iMove was dominating CPU power hence the temporary drop.
But in the next few days, I found my MM dropped connection a bit more frequently like 3-4 times a day, during word processing, browsing in Safari or even when I am doing nothing. Plus I also noticed that the KB began to have the same problem as well. Well, in all cases the communications resumed almost instantly or shortly after I clicked MM or a button on the KB. It's only the on-screen notices are very annoying....
The situation got worse in the final week of 2010, the connection (both MM and KB) dropped more frequently and sometimes communication didn't resume instantly, instead the Bluetooth Setup Assistant pops up searching for available devices....and then finally connected. Annoyed by this I took the MM to the retailer and swapped for a brand new one (from a boxed iMac), came home and hey! problem solved! but just for a MERE few hours.
On the last day of 2010, after a couple "rounds" of drop-and-reconnect I was hit by the "Bluetooth Not Available" problem after a connection failure. Left it for some moments and no sign of recovery at all! Luckily and ironically I plug in my wired USB Microsoft mouse so that I can still navigate, went to System Preference and found the Bluetooth icon disappeared as if no Bluetooth hardware was ever installed at all! OK, turned off the iMac from the menu, waited and restarted. No joy and scary enough, I can't even get into the system coz I got log-in enabled but without a working KB to enter my password. Without a choice I dug out my netbook PC, arrived in this forum and found I wasn't the only one. Followed instructions here, did a SMC reset, PRAM reset, etc then magically everything is back! Once back in, I deleted the plist, deleted devices, restarted, re-favourite MM and KB, etc. The next day, I use the installation disc to perform a hardware check, but no problem found!
But always a but, the problem still persists, so a call to Apple technical support who suggested literally the same thing I've done above and asked me to monitor the problem in case it needs repair. Honestly, I am not keen to do that as the nearest Apple centre is far from me and always busy. Not sure if anyone here can shed some lights on my problem. I needa ensure all channels are exhausted before I bring the thing back to Apple for an inspection as a last resort...
    Many thanks guys

Hi, I post this because this is very similar to what is happening with my new 27in Imac.
Townsville March 05 2011 bought all singing and all dancing 27inch IMac with wireless KB and MM at new reseller grand opening. Straight forward out of the box. First night a kernal panic message and screen shut down and unable to start. Phonecall to apple care got it restarted with the apleoption+pr keys. Fine for a while, then repeated screen freezes watching eye TV.
Persevered, with similar repeated screen freezes. Reset memory for eye TV. Seemed to fix that problem, but during this time also noticed MM and KB were disappearing and not responding, only to come back by frustratingly turning them on and off, waving them near the imac and even turning the imac off and on manually, to have them come back for a while and even dragging out a cable mouse to navigate. Cut a long story short, I hoped it would sort itself. 20 days later while watching eye tv I noticed the mm and kb drop off. Cable mouse found the BT issue you guys have discussed. System Preferences showed no BT at all. Rang apple care. Went through the same drill and identified a hardware problem with BT which should be replaced, and after discussion about the other issues, suggested a replacement would be within range but to talk to the store, cause it was so new, took it back to store where my story was confirmed in a confirmation of the customers story check.....for a while.....
then all reappeared as if nothing was wrong, fortunately it was witnessed by the store, so off it went to Brisbane for the 4 day turnaround. Wednesday the tech rang BT MM and KB all working fine. Further explained all the above, so he has stress tested it and I am informed it is has displayed none of the bad behaviour and is working well and on its way home, hopefully by monday. So will keep you posted. No new mac offered, no replacement BT module offered.
PS I have only ever owned macs, still love them, and scripting this on my mac book, which incidentally, has never missed a beat.

I hope this is the right section because I could not find one for the keyboard but I bought a wireless keyboard for my macbook pro so I could hook it up to my LG tv  and sit far back but the first time when using Lion it found my keyboard and then had a list of numbers to type in from the keyboard to pair it and all was well but ever since I upgraded to mountain lion I have been un able to pair the device it detects the keyboard but it refuses to pair it and no numbers come up on the screen and says to make sure it son and batterieson correctly..etc I made sure it is all in correctly I put a fresh set of batteries and when I turn it on the green lights comes on for a few seconds then turns off and does not blink or anything..
I dont know what else I can try to get the keyboard to pair with my macbook pro 13" of mid 2010 I made sure the little bit on the end is properly attached as it does detect the keyboard and the batteries are in correctly I cant think for the life of me why it wont work :/

  • Hi, does anyone know why does my imac wireless keyboard "hang" out of the blue? At the same time, when it hangs, i realize my itunes tab automatically launches. Can someone please help?

It seems to be automatically hang without a reason.

iCloud should still help you reduce some hard drive space. Just select "optimize" in the icloud tab in Mac Photo App preferences.
Granted, not the same as completely offloading your library to a back-up drive at your location.
    Good Luck!

  • IMac Wireless Keyboard - protective skins? (Pre - Aluminium Flat keyboard)

I have a pre-"the new" aluminium wireless key board and have been using a silicone skin to keep it clean, quieter to use and more ergonomic to feel for a few years now but it seems the only retailer I can find in the UK has now stopped selling them. No surprise there.
Being a designer I have always used the 'raised' key keyboards for faster work and for better feel when touch- typing and for shortcuts, so I have the if it aint broke reasoning! And it's still pristine white...
Does anyone know of anywhere in the UK or a helpful exporter in another country that sells these mystical skins?
I have a found a couple of HG manufacturers but they are wholesale bulk. eBay is not an option.

    Try the Bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse forums.

  • My iMac Wireless Keyboard is auto typing!!!

    Hi,
From the past 2 days my iMac keyboard is behaving bad!
It automactically starts typing /////// and 0000 and even 'Enter' .....
I have tried turning it OFF and ON again, but still the same error. I have disconnected the keyboard and paired it again but still the problem remains.
This iMac is 11 months old!!! Please help.

    Thanks.
I tried doing this, but my keyboard keeps getting switched off and disconnecting. So can't boot in safe mode.
I am getting a feeling that its an hardware issue!!

  • I just changed the batteries on my imac wireless keyboard.  it's blinking, so it's in "discoverable" mode.  there's probably a simple bluetooth issue, but because the computer won't recognize the keyboard, i can't enter my password.  what do i do?

    see above

You need to re-pair the keyboard with the Mac; you may need to borrow a neighbor's USB keyboard (any USB keyboard will do) to get to the Bluetooth Assistant to you can pair it.

  • Does anyone know what to do about a squeaky key on my iMacs wireless keyboard?

I just got it like two days ago, so it shouldnt be squeaking all over the place. Some keys just squeak half of the  time that I use the keyboard, and 1 squeaks all the time. Its really getting on my nervs. Can anyone help me?
I think I might take it to an Apple store to get it fixed, but thats an hour away.
Im wondering if  this will go away as my keyboard might just need to get worn in. I doubt it though.

No...the keys shouldn't squeak on a new keyboard.  I'd advise taking it to the Apple Store (make an appointment with the Genius Bar beforehand...saves a lot of time). Odds are good it's so new they'll replace the keyboard for you.
