Image Capture - Download Images

I am having a hard time finding info on scripting Image Capture. Basically I want to have my script create a new folder, and then have Image Capture download all the images from the attached camera to that folder.
I have no problem creating the folder or opening image capture I just cant figure out how to get Image Caputer to download the images... So if someone could give me some insight I would really appreciate it.

Oh I understand how to get images off the camera its just that I support people that don't.
The real problem here is that we are starting to move away from using Macs, it'll take years but its going to happen. I dislike the way iPhoto organizes the actual files, in fact is terrible as far as I am concerned. So I was hoping to have the script do the following:
-Make a folder that describes the event
-Move picture files to the folder
-import folder to iPhoto (with the setting to copy the files to the folder disabled)
So we could keep on using iPhoto on the Mac and when we want to let others access them from Mac/Windows/Whatever they are actually organized.

  • Image Capture downloads pictures and creates .aae file

Using Image Capture 6.6 to download pictures from my iPhone 5S to Macbook Air w/ OSX Yosemite.
When I go to the folder where I download the files on my computer, it shows a .JPG file and an .AAE file.
I cannot find preferences for Image Capture to turn the additional download off.
It is doubling file size storage on my computer as each picture has a .JPG @ 600KB and an .AAE @ 600K
I have bulk deleted the .AAE files using Spotlight and searching the file type, but do not wish to continue doing this if there is way to turn this off.

Until a better idea comes along use a card-reader to put the files into a folder, then load them into Apex as a second step. This is not as conveneint as loading directly from the camera, but if the interface won't work you'll have to do somethiing else.
I don't have immediate access to Apex - can you load off a card-reader instead of the camera by specifying the drive to load the files from?
It sounds like more of a Windows problem than Apex. Have you tried browser searches on Logitech and Twain to see if anyone has encountered similar problems?

  • Problem with Image Capture Download Folders

Hi there - I was wondering if anyone might be able to help with a problem I'm having with Image Capture (version 3.0.3 (333))?
I use image capture to download photos from my digital camera and normally have no problems.
When I tried to do some downloads this morning, my normal list of folders in the "Download to" drop-down box is completely blank. It didn't even have the "Other" option to chose a folder. The Automatic Task drop down was also blank, I could not open preferences and in the "options" box, the ColourSync profile would not load anything.
I could not download the photos to anywhere - when I tried to "download some" it gave me an error message saying that I need to choose a download folder, but of course I am unable to do this.
This morning I tried repairing permissions in disk utilities, and removing the com.apple.imagecaptureapplist file and rebooting as suggested here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10368631&#10368631
but that hasn't worked completely. I can now download the photos but they just automatically go to the "Pictures". At least I can download them now, but if I can get the two drop down boxes working again, and the other things working (preferences etc), that would be great.
One other thing, about a month ago I foolishly tried to rename my Home Folder without doing it the proper way. I had thought I had gotten everything back to normal with my library etc, but maybe there are a few unknown implications still out there, and this is one of them as I don't think I have tried to download any photos since then.
    Your help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Antony

    Hi and thanks again
    OK:
    1. I found the photo and have put it back as the login page icon as close as I could to what it used to look like..
    2. I trashed the user's .com.apple.systempreference file but it didn't work.
    3. I then copied my .com.apple.systempreference file to their library>preferences folder but no luck.
    4. Finally, I noticed the other user account had no system preferences file in their "Applications" folder. So I copied the system preferences file from my application folder across and used that to open system preferences, and that has seemed to fix it, ie. system preferences now opens directly from the apple menu.
So I am noticing a few things now:
    5. The other user's "Applications" folder doesn't have many applications in it. It only has:
    - Utilities
    - Adobe Version Cue CS2
    - Real Player
    - iTunes (which was only downloaded there recently - post Home Folder name change I think)
    - Imagecapture which I copied there yesterday
    - and now System preferences
    6. This is compared to my user account applications folder which has loads of other files in it, eg. Preview, Stuffit Expander, iDVD, iChat, Calculator, Chess, Skype, etc etc etc. I just can't remember if this was the case before the Home Folder rename.
    7. Now, my user account used to be the only admin account, so it makes sense that my "Applications Folder" has more in it because programs could only have been downloaded there for a long time. The other person's user account has only been an admin account much more recently - say in the last year and very few applications (if any) would have been downloaded there.
    8. Interestingly, while the other user account doesn't have the Skype or Preview file in their "Applications" folder, it does appear in their bar along the bottom of the screen that has the dashboard and finder icons (is this called the dock?).
    9. Anyway, if you are in the other user's account and you click on Skype, iCal, Word or Preview in their Dock for example, those programs open no problem so the dock icons must somehow have survived the Home Folder renaming and stayed linked to the corresponding files in my "Applications" folder? But some other programs, eg. system preferences, image capture etc didn't survive it and became "delinked".
    10. I also notice internetconnect still works in the other user account, even though there is no internetconnect file in that user's "Applications" folder.
    11. So it seems that some links between the other user and my account have been severed, and some have survived.
    Some other information:
    12. Everything that was on the other user's desktop appears to have been recovered since the Home Folder debacle (I think getting the Library back helped this?), and I managed to redo the desktop picture/wallpaper.
    13. I'm not sure if it is relevant, but in my account, Finder has a side bar on the left that is divided into an upper section and a lower section. The lower section has my home folder, a documents folder, a desktop folder, a pictures folder etc. On the upper section it has the macintosh disk icon, and also a Network Icon (that contains a library file and another file which I can't remember just now but can let you know if that helps). The other user account does not have the Network icon however. Do you think this might make a difference?
    14. In addition to the other user account there is also a guest account on this computer which has suffered the same problems, eg. not being able to open imagecapture or systempreferences. However, when I fixed the problems in the other user account by copying over the imagecapture and system preferences files from my account to the other user account, the problems in the guest account were automatically fixed!
    15. So it seems the guest login is somehow linked to the fixes in the other user account, but the other user account and the guest account are suffering some problems with links to my user account. Perhaps the latter was badly broken with the Home Folder rename incident?
    16. Finally, if you go into Finder while in the other user's account, you can navigate to the applications folder in my account and access all the applications there, ie. Macintosh HD>Users>MyHomeFolderName>Applications. My applications folder is not blocked like some of the other ones, eg. Library, Desktop, Pictures etc.
    17. Is there someway to re-establish the link between the other user account and my application's folder? I don't want to copy all the applications across even if I can do that, because it just takes up more space on the HD, but if that is all that can be done, then I will consider doing it...
    Thanks again BDAqua!

  • Image Capture - Download?

My computer was running low on memory, so I deleted some programs that I thought I'd never use. (Seeing as this is mostly my 'away from home, connect to internet only' computer, I didn't think I'd need a lot of the programs.)
It looks like I needed Image Capture to get pictures from my digital camera to my computer. Is there any way I can download this program? (I don't have any of the installation CDs with me for either the camera or the Mac.)

Here's an alternative: why not just pull the pictures into iPhoto instead?
And if you have to have them in the Finder instead of iPhoto, you can locate them in ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/<year picture was taken in>/<month picture was taken in>/<day picture was taken in> and copy (NOT DRAG) them somewhere else. Then go back to iPhoto and delete the pictures there so you won't have duplicates.
It's a bit more complicated, but then again, I don't know where you can get Image Capture other than from the OS X Install Disc... (So yea, I kind of didn't answer your question...)

  • Reset Image Capture "Download To" list

This question has been bugging me for some time. It is NOT Snow Leopard specific but I couldn't find a more appropriate topic under which to post.
I'm a commercial photographer. Our shop uses Image Capture to import data from our cameras' memory cards. We always first create a directory specific to an assignment, and within that directory we create a sub-directory named "_captures."
We then direct Image Capture to copy the files from the card to the _captures directory specific to that assignment.
Image Capture thoughtfully keeps track of previous destinations. Over time that "Download To" list grows to hundreds, all named "_captures." I can't for the life of me figure out how to reset that "Download To" list.
We use a card reader. The destination list seems to be specific to the card reader because attaching a new card reader seems to start the list over. But I don't want to have to buy a new card reader every time the list gets unwieldy!
I tried launching Image Capture holding down first option and then command option, but that didn't do anything. No preferences I can see.
    Any suggestions?
    Gratefully,
    Steve Nelson

Instead of choosing Save, choose Save As. In the File Save dialog there's a drop down menu under the Filename field with the default directory displayed. By navigating to another folder or clicking on the New folder option (usually in the lower left of the dialog) you can make such a change.
Another alternative is to use the shareware utility, Default Folder X - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Canon 400D RAW & Image Capture & raw image update - Fail

I got my macbook pro about a month ago and of course was anxious to try out my camera ( Canon EOS 400D). I'm using RAW images. It worked fine. No problems.
But then comes the update a week or two ago. Of course I download it, it's an update... What could go wrong . Then, today, I connect my camera again to download some photos I took. Image capture launches as usual, but what happens when I try to download (some/all, no difference) the photos from the camera? Nothing! The program hangs up and Force Quite Applications says (Not Responding).
Well, I'd try with iPhoto, but no success, because the camera is no longer recognized. I reboot the computer and try again. Yippee! The camera is recognized again, but there is no success with downloading the images. Actually iPhoto doesn't even show the images in camera.
What to do? Anyone's got the same problem? Can I 'downdate' the system to get rid of the latest RAW update?
I do not own a memorycard reader because this method has been working always until today.
Oh yes, the camera is ok, because it works flawlessly with Windows XP and Vista.

I use Adobe Bridge + Photoshop to process RAW images. I really don't think the only answer to get by this problem is to buy more equipment, it's not the right way. There's a bug in OS and it should be fixed .
Anyway, I'm going to get the card reader, but I'm still waiting for this problem to be fixed some time in the future. If not for me, but for the new Apple users that have got used to connecting the USB-cord between computer and camera and everything works fluenty after that.

  • Image Capture Boot Image Fails with 0xc000000f

I am trying to capture a Windows 8.1 Enterprise (with Update) x64 installation using WDS, but the Capture Image fails to load. I used the boot.wim from the Windows Server 2012 R2 (with Update) ISO to create a boot image in WDS and then a capture image from
it. After I press F12 and the progress bar finishes the following message appears:
This only happens when I boot the capture image - the original boot image that I imported in WDS boots normally. I also tried with the Windows 8.1 (with Update) boot.wim, but the issue reoccurs. This is a Hyper-V VM on Windows Server
2012. Is this a problem with the recent update?

    Hi,
We’re currently experiencing exactly the same issue. Also a fully-updated Server 2012R2 (with the recent KB2919355 update) machine.
So far, I found two other posts with exactly the same issue:
    1) http://wp.secretnest.info/?p=1474
    2)
    http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/472581-wds-capture-image-winload-exe-corrupt-or-missing
According to these posts it seems like the issue occurs after the first time a capture image based upon a Windows 8.1 or Server2012R2 boot.wim is created.
What I’ve tried so far is removing the server role, deleting the WDS store, rebooting the server and start over with a Windows 7 boot.wim. The normal boot.wim starts ok, but the created capture image doesn’t.
So the process of creating the capture boot image did ‘something’ in a way the new boot.wim differences from the old boot.wim. To find out what, I first mounted the new .wim file to see if winload.exe is actually there – it is both in
system32 as well as systen32\boot. So my second guess was that the Windows Boot Manager cannot find the windows loader, because of an incorrect declaration of disks in the BCD store.
I used BCDEDIT to show the differences between the working and non-working boot images:
    Windows Boot Loader

So the ID for the osdevice is the same, and only the device is different, but mentioned correctly under Device options (as far as my knowledge goes in this subject). I hope there will be a solution anytime soon.

  • Image Capture Won't Import to Selected Directory

OK, this is really annoying. I use Image Capture to import images from my CF cards via a Sandisk USB reader. I open image capture, select the path and then IC copies the images wherever it darn well pleases. I can do a search and find the images and move them where I want them but I shouldn't have to. I have repaired permissions as well as run Disk Warrior on all drives. I have a PowerMac G5, 10.4.10, 6GB RAM, and a total of 8 drives mounted (SATA). Any thoughts?
    Mike

When Image Capture launches there should be a location showing in the drop down menu at the top of its window. You change the location by opening the drop down menu, selecting Other, and then navigating to a new location, which then becomes the new default location for saving the things Image Capture downloads. Image Caputre saves this information in its preference file:
    "/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist"
If changing the location doesn't work you could try removing the plist, then launch Image Capture and see if the location returns the default (I believe that is the home Pictures folder). There are also two cache files:
    "/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.ImageCapture2.xxxx.plist"
    "/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.ImageCaptureExtension2.xxx x.plist"
You might also remove them as well if deleting the plist didn't return Image Capture to the default state.

  • Image Capture not finding images taken under iOS 4

After updating to iOS4 I'm not able to download images from my phone via Image Capture. Image Capture simply doesn't show the images taken since the update, in the browse window of the application.
So my question, with a conditioned subquestion is:
-> is there a fix for this issue?
->->if not: does anyone know of another way to get images and videos from the iPhone without going trough iPhoto.

Found the solution.  For Lion, you need to install the Canon driver for Snow Lep 10.6 then reboot.  Once that is complete, the scanner will show up as a valid device.

  • Image Capture won't scan: Canon MP 610

    Hello,
I experience a strange bug in Image Capture which I use together with my Canon MP610. When I put a document on the scanner Image Capture will show a preview and then scan the document. This works fine.
Sometimes I need to make some manual corrections by using the button "show details" and then resize the scan area after the program has analyzed the picture. After I made the corrections I hit the "Scan" button but Image Capture will return with the message "Scanner has reported an error" and "An error occurred during scanning".
I first thought it might be a driver related problem as I recently updated the drivers from the Canon site. Before I installed the Canon drivers and used the OSX drivers all worked fine.
So I removed all drivers from Canon and hoped the Mac would use the old drivers again. That didn't work either as the system couldn't seem to find any usable driver anymore. I reinstalled the Canon drivers and all works well again except for the Image Capture program.
As long as I don't use the "Show Details" button the scanner works just fine. But as soon as I make some manual corrections the scanner error message pops up and the scanner won't scan the adjusted preview.
So I know for sure the Mac sees the scanner and can control it as the scanner does deliver the images to the folder I specify, but I can't do any manual corrections.
I already deleted the file "com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist" but that didn't solve the problem. It appears to be a bug in the program itself or a conflict between the app and the drivers from Canon. How can I revert back to the drivers that my Mac used before I installed the Canon drivers?
    Thanks!

Thanks PAHU that were a lot of drivers for sure in your link and I installed those. Unfortunately, nor the driver package nor the ICA driver did solve my problem. I'm beginning to think it might just be a bug within Image Capture, although Image Capture is stating the scanner is reporting an error. Strange thing is that Image Capture will work fine as long as I hide the details pane.
It seems to be an isolated problem too as I can't find any other subject on this on the net. I see more people having trouble to scan images with Image Capture but that's mostly related to not selecting the right part of the preview. I will see if I can reinstall Image Capture from the OSX dvd.

  • Image Capture won't capture (Canon 9950F)

I have recently bought a Canon 9950F for a specific project. It replaced an Epson Perfection 2450 Photo which worked perfectly but was limited in the size (area) of its film scanning capabilities. I have used a range of software including VueScan and Silverfast v6.6 but the most direct scanning tool I have used is Image Capture. The feature that I really like with Image Capture is the ability to select multiple scan areas in the 'preview' and have Image Capture scan them as a batch. The project I am working on (family archive photos, documents and film negs of various formats) really makes the most of this feature.
I have moved over to the Canon 9950F and immediately noticed that Image Capture does not see the film scanning feature of the 9950F. It scans documents exactly as the Epson 2450 did but does not offer the option of scanning film or transparency, only documents on the flatbed. I have updated the Canon Drivers and the scanner is visible under System Prefs > Printers. VueScan and SilverFast recognise the scanner (but neither have the selectable scanning feature that Image Capture offers) and Photoshop Elements 10 also sees the scanner under File > Import.
Has anyone experienced this problem and, if so, is there a 'work around'.
    Many thanks.

  • Macbook pro doesn't recognize camera on image capture

My MacBook Pro doesn't recognize the built-in camera for a lot of my applications, including Image Capture. It doesn't show up anywhere in my system preferences. Any idea why this is so?

    (1)  Mac's built-in camera does not work with Image Capture.
Image Capture works with external devices like scanners, some iOS devices, some cameras and RAM cards, etc.  Click this link for more info about Image capture and some of the apps that can work with your inbuilt camera.
Click here for info about how to use Image Capture to transfer images from a connected external camera.
For more info about Image Capture functions, see Image Capture > Help on your Mac or the Apple pages in this link.
    (2) To test for application-specific problems mentioned in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight " article, use apps like Photo Booth, QuickTime Player, iChat, FaceTime, or others intended to work with your Mac's inbuilt camera.
    (3) To test for user-specific problems mentioned in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 the "How to Troubleshoot iSight " article, you must have more than one user account.  Do NOT use the "Guest" account.  Click this link if you need help creating new accounts for testing.

  • Because I have taken over 9,999  pics, my phone is now duplicating image numbers. The problem is when I am importing with Image Capture, when I select images, the program is importing BOTH the old images of the same number as well as the new ones. Help?

Because I have taken over 9,999 images, my phone is now duplicating image numbers. The problem is that Image Capture now imports BOTH images when I select the new ones that share numbers with old ones.  The images were completely mixed when they showed up in Image Capture - Old image 0001, new image 0001, old image 0002, new image 0002 and so forth. I clicked on "date," which then rearraged the images, and I selected only the new ones, but when they actually import to my computer BOTH old and new images are importing. Has anyone figured out how to solve this problem?

Well, obviously all I needed to do  to solve the problem was to post about it. It has stopped, so all is well!

  • How to save a scan in Image Capture?

How do I save my scan in image capture?
What option to I go to save it as a JPEG or PNG to my computer?

There's no Save command because Image Capture automatically saves scans when you click the Scan button.
To find the format options, you have to click Show Details at the bottom. This will reveal the save location and format options, including an Overview button so you can test your crop etc. settings before you do the final scan.

    Image Capture>Help>Image Capture Help.
This suggestion is not very helpful because this information is very difficult to find in the Help. Image Capture doesn't have a "Save" or "Export" command like most apps do, so anyone trying to find this info in Image Capture Help will be frustrated until they eventually dig down and discover the section "Scan images with a flatbed scanner using detailed options." In fact, if someone searches for the term "save" it doesn't even turn up any results, and "JPEG" or "PNG" only turns up results for the digital camera import part of Image Capture, nothing about scanning.
The Apple help for Image Capture is so incomplete and counter-intuitive that this is one of those times when it's better to answer the question directly then to dump someone into the top level of Help with no guidance.
